Susie is accidentally tracking an airplane from Pittsburgh, and we're starting to wonder if this is a security risk. Sarah would like to put out a public service announcement that disinfected and clean are two different things, and you can shove your hand sanitizer up your you-know-what. She went to Urban Outfitters recently, and found out she is old, can't wear mini-skirts, and Fiona Apple makes her cry. We hear why she claims she's only hot one week/month and she has a theory about why hot people end up with hot people. We debate the difference between being up for anything and down for anything, and we're both, that's all we know. The zoo in China is up to no good again and it's HILARIOUS. Let's just say they want to assure you they did NOT give a lion's mane a haircut why would you even think that??? Susie confesses to having a gross habit in high school, but we agreed to just think of it as a nerdy hobby instead of the nastiness it actually is. There's a new version of We Didn't Start the Fire out and Susie is sharing what should've been included, but in a strange turn of events, Sarah found out for the first time that that song is about actual historical events...Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSponsors:Head to https://moshlife.com/braincandy to save 20% off plus FREE shipping on your first 6-count Trial Pack!Head to https://embracepetinsurance.com/braincandy and sign up for pet insurance today!Get 15% off your first order when you use promo code CANDY at https://www.bollandbranch.comSo head to https://nakedwines.com/braincandy and click ‘Enter Voucher' in the top right when you get to the website, and enter BRAINCANDY for both the code AND password to get 6 bottles of wine for JUST $39.99 with shipping included!More podcasts at WAVE: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/artist/wave-podcast-network/1437831426See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Today's guests, Sarah and Jessica are longtime friends who grew up together in Canada. They are Ex-Christians who discuss their former faith one strange topic at a time on their cleverly named podcast "You Can't Get To Heaven In A Miniskirt" The stated goal of their podcast is to expose the abusive power structures and toxicity within the Christian faith and create a safe place to heal for those affected by religious trauma. Sarah and Jessica say their aim is to bridge the divide of the ever-growing chasm of religious and political ideology in North America. Now that they live on opposite sides of the country they spend most of their free time researching for the podcast in an effort to find common ground between believers and non-believers. In this cathartic and informative conversation, Sarah and Jessica detail the experiences they had in the Christian church that led them to start the podcast. Throughout the show, Rachel offers her insights on the themes Sarah and Jessica cover in their podcast including purity culture and patriarchal control. Before You Go: Rachel points out the hypocrisy of high-control Christian churches whose patriarchal teachings aim to control all aspects of women's behavior. It's 1965 and London is about to become the capital of cool. Designer Mary Quant is watching the fashionable girls of Chelsea go by from the window of her shop, Bazaar. Their hemlines seem to be getting shorter and shorter. Inspired, Mary gets to work and what she comes up with many will find deeply shocking. It's the miniskirt. In episode eight of Torn, Gus Casely-Hayford finds that media, society and feminists can never agree on whether the miniskirt is a good thing. Fashion historian Valerie Steele draws parallels with the 1920s when feminist disagreed over whether the knee-length flapper skirt was frivolous, or favourable to feminism.
Gus discovers that when Mary Quant popularised the miniskirt in the 1960s, no matter what the papers or parents had to say about them, girls and young women were desperate to get their hands on one. Eve Shrewsbury was one of them, and she shocked the older generation in her village in rural Northamptonshire by wearing a miniskirt. Fast forward to 2019 when Clara Mitchell decides to wear a miniskirt to high school in Little Rock, Arkansas and the controversy surrounding her decision goes viral. Esteemed as both a scholar and an activist, she's spent nearly ninety years working for social justice, if you count her first few years, and I do: when she was four, she had a clear (and unpopular) position on the Soviet-Finnish war. She's since revised it. Continuous rethinking—the mark of the true intellectual.

The perfect gift and resource for anyone with an interest in style.' – Sara McAlpine, Fashion Features Editor, ELLE White T-shirt, Miniskirt, Hoodie, Jeans, Ballet flat, Breton top, Biker jacket, Little black dress, Stiletto, Trench. What are you wearing? In all likelihood, your outfit will feature at least one of these 10 items. Familiar, commonplace, ubiquitous - each piece has become an emblem of a certain style, carrying its own connotations and historical significance. Our social history is contained within these perfect 10 pieces - while trends may come and go, these are here to stay. The Perfect 10 includes deep dive explorations into each item's history, how it gained its reputation, and what it means today, accompanied by stylish photography and illustrations, as well as interviews with notable proponents of each item. From the evolution of the white T-shirt from army staple to symbol of achingly cool simplicity, the hoodie's birth in the monasteries of Rome to its domination of streetwear, and the transition of the stiletto from the feet of fifteenth-century Iranian equestrians to those of New York businesswomen, The Perfect 10 puts fashion in context. Showing how certain pieces are just as ubiquitous on the catwalk as on the street, Lauren Cochrane's crucial volume defines the fashion items that make up your wardrobe, and how they got there, providing the perfect excuse for the reader to wear them time and time again. Since the dawn of cinema, sequels have always been a dicey proposition. As the media is oft to tell us, fans are absolute monsters and barely register as human, and as such, can be fickle and unreasonable with how they receive follow-ups to their favourite properties. Some sequels meet even the most jaded fan expectations, and provide quality and worthy continuations of fantastic starts - think Winter Soldier, Terminator 2, and Wrath of Khan. In other cases, you get movies like Last Jedi, Speed 2, and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, all being served by Howard the Duck in a Miniskirt as he squats over your table and colon-dumps onto your plate. However, once in a long while, you get a sequel that not only manages to reach the level of expectation set upon it by demanding fans, but in many ways surpasses the original source material and becomes legendary in its own right. Empire Strikes Back is an obvious example of this, but in this episode, we get to talk about another absolute gem of sequel legend - 2010: The Year We Make Contact. Strap into your command chair and join Jay and Benny as we blast off into Jupiter orbit, and enjoy one of the best sequels in movie history. 2001 is a tough act to follow because of the whole...you know...absolute artistry and generation-defining storyline. However, 2010 inexplicably knocks it out of the park with a compelling follow-up to the events of the previous film, while adding incredible acting, solid storytelling, and themes of unity and camaraderie against all odds. 2010 is a rare gem in the world of sequels for an obvious yet often overlooked reason - it respects and honours the original material, using it as a springboard to continue a story that makes existing fans happy, while providing an accessible journey to new ones. We wish more studious would take note of this *cough Disney Star Wars cough*. Avoid staring directly at the monolith as we explore such topics as: With two minutes of computer mission review text, the viewer is perfectly brought up to speed on the events of the previous movie. If you never saw 2001, these two minutes would have you perfectly positioned to enjoy the movie. Why don't more sequels do this? Russia and the US are close to an all out war, yet the scientist interactions between both nations are presented with the right amount of intrigue and cooperation. The growing friendship between the two nations' crews is one of the best parts of this movie If you're like Benny, and you have an abnormally strong dislike of women with pronounced chin dimples, you're going to HATE Floyd's wife Dave is a returning character, playing a pivotal role in story development. He is a beloved character that is treated with respect and dignity. Last Jedi is absolute garbage Enough good things cannot be said about the growing relationships between space crews. From Floyd's fatherly comforting of a young Russian officer to John Lithgow's buddy Max, the viewer is treated to enemies slowly becoming friends in a universe that doesn't allow it Dear NASA: We get it. There's clay on Mars. Awesome. How about you get around to launching a drill probe so we can all say hello to the sentient squid race under Europa's icy crust? Pretty please?

Multifacetedacg Presents: An Album a Day

An Album a Day is my exploration into the Korean music scene. This podcast will cover mainstream, indie and some underground artists within the scene and provide both factual and opinionated commentary. The biggest benefit to sharing my thoughts this way is that it will hopefully expose you to more great music and exploration of your own. Today, we brush over 2013 and go into the sound-defining work AOA made in 2014 with their album “Miniskirt.” If 2013’s “Red Motion” was any indication of where these ladies were heading with their sound, then you’d have a partially wrong assumption. The commercial success in review, right after the drop. You’re tuned into An Album a Day. Show start. Hey y’all, at this point in AOA’s discography, they mostly put down the physical music instruments and picked up a greater commitment to R&B, pop, and vocal arrangements that suited them. In 2013, they released two single albums, AOA Black’s “Moya” and their fourth single album, “Red Motion.” Both were very different from each other, with “Moya” allowing the subunit to shine as a punk band of sorts, and “Red Motion” introducing audiences to a more mature, confident representation of the group. Image-wise, the song “Confused” was a clue to the transition in style that  AOA was about to experience. They were giving us high heels and fashion choices that almost every other girl group was delivering on, such as hot pants, peplum tops, and minimal distinction between outfits. However, with their sound, this is where more memorable melodies began. And so, FNC Entertainment had the women wait three months before revamping production, reorganizing vocal arrangements, and polishing each member’s role in the group, before their  January 16, 2014 comeback with their single album, “Miniskirt.” “Miniskirt” the album is noted for being dance-pop and R&B but I want to put more emphasis on R&B. Rhythm and Blues music is already a popular genre, so they created a one-two combo of releasing songs that would appeal to a wider audience. Though its predecessor had its charms, the composition and lyric choices were more befitting of younger listeners. To clarify further: the themes were the same, but the presentation of said themes shifted. “Miniskirt” the song is still talking about wanting the attention of a clueless guy, but the ladies are more confident and flirtatious in expressing this goal. The single album features three unique tracks and one instrumental. The album’s intro “Gonna Get Your Heart,” was produced and arranged by Galactika. Title track, “Miniskirt” and “Under the Street Light” are the works of Brave Brothers, Cha Kun, and Elephant Kingdom. Some of these names are new to us and I hope to find more information about these behind-the-scenes professionals. Suffice it to say that a major breakthrough for AOA came by way of incorporating the talents of Brave Brothers for production and lyrics. His work created greater musicality for the ladies and the Brave Sound overall sent AOA soaring to new heights. Through the title track, “Miniskirt,” they secured their first top 20 spot on the Gaon Digital Charts, pulling in at number 11. He brought an enhanced quality of music production that created more depth for the vocalists of the group. He knew when and where to place leader Jimin so that her vocal quality was an accent to the track. Likewise, his mixing and mastering skills brought a better sound sonically to listeners, whether or not they noticed it. The volume level and fullness of the 2013 albums played immediately before this one 2014 album is very noticeable. Given that “Red Motion” and “Moya” were samples to the buffet of their first 2014 project, I will not rank them. I wanted to acknowledge them for historic purposes but focus the ranking on the more complete project. Additionally, having a change in production style from their debut season to that of Brave Sound, those two projects don’t have the legs to stand... Support this podcast
