Unreal Results for Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers
In this episode of the Unreal Results podcast, I'm joined by Amy Young, a coach who helps women navigate major life transitions. I first found Amy through her content and eventually started working with her but I've always loved her vibe and felt like we spoke the same language, so given the work she does, I felt she would be a great guest for the podcast. In this episdoe, Amy shares her insights from over ten years of guiding clients through mysterious body pain and personal growth. You'll also hear us talk about reframing pain as a teacher, building a compassionate relationship with the body, and the emotional and psychological layers of healing. Whether you work with high-level athletes or everyday humans dealing with complex pain, this conversation will expand the way you think about the healing process and whole-body care.Resources Mentioned In This EpisodeConnect with Amy on InstagramMy Favorite Episode of Amy's Podcast: Woman: You Are The PrizeLearn the LTAP™ In-Person in one of my upcoming coursesConsidering the viscera as a source of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction is a great way to ensure a more true whole body approach to care, however it can be a bit overwhelming on where to start, which is exactly why I created the Visceral Referral Cheat Sheet. In this episode of It's Not About the Money, we're joined by Bernie Anderson—missions leader, podcast host, business consultant, and certified Growability coach. Bernie helps us reframe our ideas around sales and fundraising, showing how sales, when done with integrity and generosity, can become a transformative experience for both the giver and the receiver. We talk about why fundraising isn't a transaction but a transformation, why great fundraisers are great listeners, and how donor alignment is better than manipulation. Bernie shares wisdom on identifying donor personalities, avoiding burnout through authenticity, and how storytelling—done honestly—can drive partnership fruit. If you've ever felt awkward "making the ask" or have been burned by manipulative sales tactics, this episode will feel like a breath of fresh air. Bernie reminds us that fundraising is discipleship, that rejection isn't failure, and that there's no such thing as “sacred vs. secular” when you're doing Kingdom work.

The beautiful mother of 3 and one of the most incredible women I know, Amy Young, is on this episode with me and I cannot thank her enough for her vulnerability in sharing her story about her daughter's diagnosis of spina bifida and how she is doing today. She shares the incredible clinical trial they were a part of in Texas which helped change her daughter's future mobility, amongst many other things and how that experience affected her family in many positive ways. This family is truly an inspiration. Halfway through we unknowingly do a deep dive into our faith and Amy shares how her relationship with Jesus and how her constant growing faith and desire to know Him and his story even more has completely changed her life for the better and I couldn't agree more. On this episode, we are joined by Justin Keane and Amy Young, the fantastic indie rock duo known as Canyons And Locusts.Canyons and Locusts is a melodic noise-rock duo from Boston and Phoenix, consisting of Justin Keane (vocals, guitar) from Boston and Amy Young (drums, backing vocals) from Phoenix. The band's sound is defined by edgy guitar riffs, pulsating drum beats, and emotionally charged vocals, blending indie rock influences with an experimental edge. Both Keane and Young honed their craft in previous bands before joining forces to create Canyons and Locusts. The duo's music evokes a raw, atmospheric energy, with each song exploring different emotional landscapes. The band's upcoming 2025 concept album, "The Goal Gigolo", is inspired by a vivid dream Keane had about a character of the same name. The album is described as a cinematic journey, drawing comparisons to Robert Altman's film "The Long Goodbye". Their 2024 EP, "The Red Angel", marked a significant step in their sonic evolution, featuring the singles "Buck Dharma's Eyes" and "To Art Bell." Episode Summary: The Federal Writers' Project interviews, collected in the American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress, have inspired generations with their personal experiences of American life. The Writers' Project pioneered oral history and the idea of documenting history from the grassroots up.In this bonus, following the episode on the Writers' Project interviews in Florida, we hear excerpts from oral histories recorded with the nonprofit group StoryCorps. In two conversations, four Floridians talked about their experiences early in the Covid pandemic when frontline workers, often people of color, were particularly vulnerable.StoryCorps, launched in 2003 with original WPA writer Studs Terkel on hand, is one of many oral history initiatives directly inspired by the Writers' Project interviews.Links and Resources:American Folklife Center, Library of CongressStorycorpsTips for a great oral history interview Credits:Host: Chris HaleyDirector: Andrea KalinProducers: Andrea Kalin, David A. When Amy Young sent out an anonymous survey in January 2024, over 350 global workers responded. She asked this question, "Is there something you feel might jeopardize you staying on the field, if your senders or organization knew about it?" Amy joined Denise this month to talk about the results of the survey, and the importance of both senders and goers talking about the hard things we often don't tackle. Amy Young, MA, LPC loves a good story. She served in China for nearly 20 years (plenty of stories there!), cofounded Velvet Ashes, and founded Global Trellis. This is my part two conversation with Dr. Amy Young.Ever felt the relentless pressure of perfectionism? Or perhaps witnessed a teenager grappling with it? Well, you're not alone. Today, we're unmasking the enigma that is perfectionism with our insightful guest, Dr. Amy Young. We dissect how it stealthily permeates different arenas of a teenager's life, morphing into late-night cramming sessions or even procrastination. Dr. Young, with her expertise, helps us decode the telltale signs, and distinguish between a pursuit of excellence versus a dangerous inclination towards perfection. Dr. Young also helps us navigate the less-charted territories of teen compulsions and body-focused repetitive behaviors. We shed light on the physical and mental compulsions that teenagers may manifest, and the potentially addictive cycle of hair-pulling and skin-picking. You'll get to understand the biological precursors to these conditions and Amy will introduce you to effective strategies to reduce these behaviors. The conversation then veers towards differentiating these behaviors from self-harm and we illuminate the importance of education in this realm. Hear how open, non-judgmental conversations can empower teens to advocate for themselves. As we approach the end of our dialogue, we emphasize the cruciality of repairing relationships post-mistakes. So, tune in, as we challenge the concept of perfection, and instead, embrace the invaluable lessons that come from embracing our imperfections.Bio:Dr. Amy Young is the Founder and Director of the CBT Center for Anxiety & OCD and has been working in the behavioral health field since 1995. In this two part episode, Dr. Amy Young and I discuss the spectrum of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and adolescents. In this first episode, we shatter some stereotypes and myths of OCD. Prepare to deeper understand the nuanced and often misunderstood world of OCD with our expert guest. Together, we're lifting the veil on OCD, going far beyond the simplistic view of just cleaning and checking, bringing to light the realities of both overt and covert compulsions. We'll also tackle the mental weight of OCD, discussing how it can manifest through actions such as constant body scans, seeking reassurance, and incessant rumination. Prepare yourself for a revelation on the "intolerance of uncertainty", and how this can lead to obsessions around delicate topics like one's sexual orientation.Professionals and casual listeners alike will find our discussion on treatment strategies intriguing. Not all approaches are created equal, and some can even be more harmful than beneficial. We delve into the art of navigating the youthful need for certainty and encouraging age-appropriate risks. The importance of recognizing OCD amidst other anxiety and depression disorders is also brought to the forefront as we discuss the potential dangers of co-compulsing. Lastly, don't miss our in-depth discussion on Exposure and Response Prevention, a unique method of treatment that involves tiny steps and gradual progression towards more challenging tasks. Whether you're a sufferer, a caregiver, or a curious listener, this episode is sure to provide a wealth of insights into the world of OCD.Keep an eye out for the follow up episode next week!!Bio:Dr. Amy Young is the Founder and Director of the CBT Center for Anxiety & OCD and has been working in the behavioral health field since 1995. *Warning: this episode contains conversations about suicide and mental health.* Remington Young cheered at Maize High School and Cheer Eclipse and fearlessly tackled every complicated skill, mastering each one. The Love Like Remi website remembers Remi in part as follows: "It's okay to not be okay and seek help when struggles seem too much to bear. If you take anything away from Remington's story, let it be to smile often, love unconditionally, hug others tightly and know you are never alone."
