If you don't know who Jesus Christ is, that means you're not engaging Scripture. And if you're not engaging Scripture, you might come to a false understanding of who Jesus Christ is. Oh, Jesus Christ was a prophet. He was a social justice advocate. No, He's the incarnate Son of God. And that is revealed in Scriptures. And it's through that revelation that we come to know about who He is, the Saviour of the world, the Promised Messiah, the fulfillment of the law, the prophets, and the covenants. But He is also for us, He is our Lord and God and He has changed everything. And it's continuing to change things through the incarnation to the resurrection. And if you don't know those things, first of all, how can you live out your faith as a Christian? And how can you possibly come to understand the nature of the world and the nature of yourself as a human person made in His image and likeness? So, without engaging the Bible, we simply cannot be Christians.---Rev. Dr. Andrew Bennett is the Program Director of Faith Communities at Cardus. Billy and Adam are joined by executive chef, partner and friend, Nick Korbee. In this episode, they learn about his NYC establishment, Egg Shop, and what it takes to run a restaurant. Is it better to master one dish or cater to a wide audience? Is it daunting to try and improve the bacon, egg and cheese? And are allergy driven meals here to stay? Plus, International Deathburgers, Vietnam War themed restaurants and our new ad bell! "Like Son, like Father? Did Markus influence Karl's thinking on baptism?" Speaker: David MacLaughlin, Associate Professor of New Testament, Atlantic School of Theology
Mayann Francis becomes Nova Scotia’s first black Lieutenant-Governor. Mayann Francis was born in the Whitney Pier district near Sydney on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. As an adult, she received her bachelor of arts from Saint Mary’s University and a masters of public administration from New York University. The daughter of a Cuban archpriest father, in 2003 Francis earned a certificate in theological studies from the Atlantic School of Theology. She worked for the Nova Scotia human rights commission in the 1970s and later moved to Ontario to work for the government in municipal affairs and housing before becoming the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Ontario Women’s Directorate. Back in Nova Scotia, Francis became the first woman to hold the post of ombudsman. She then moved into the top job at her former employer, becoming the chief executive officer of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission for eight years. On June 20, 2006, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced Francis’s appointment as Nova Scotia’s lieutenant governor. When she was sworn in at a ceremony in Halifax on September 7, 2006, Francis became the first black woman to hold the vice-regal post for the province and the second black lieutenant governor in Canada, the first being Ontario’s Lincoln Alexander. During her speech, Francis spoke of her desire to help others who may feel disadvantaged because they are considered a minority. “I am a black woman. And so therefore I crossed over many barriers to get to where I am today, and I want people to see they can do that with perseverance, a vision and great self-esteem.” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
