In this episode, I look at the origins of Atropa belladonna—a plant whose name combines myth, beauty, and lethal intent. I then examine how its deadly properties were used in two real crimes: the 1977 poisoning committed by Roland Roussel, and the 1994 case involving Paul Agutter. This is a closer look at how ancient knowledge and modern motives collided through one toxic plant.Don't miss an episode—follow, comment, like, and share!Connect with me on social media @‌themondaynightrevue or email at themondaynightrevue@gmail.com.Explore our podcast merch: Shop HereSupport the show: Buy Me a CoffeeDiscover curated reads: BookshopFor ad-free episodes, minisodes, and exclusive perks, join us on Patreon: Support on PatreonWritten and edited by Corinna Harrod with Holly Clarke. Olgu: 43 yaş erkek hasta bahçesinde bulunan bilmediği bir otu yedikten sonra baş dönmesi, bilinç değişikliği, ayağa kalkamama şikayetiyle başvurduğu dış merkezden tarafımıza sevk edildi.  Dış merkezde çekilen beyin bilgisayarlı tomografi (BT) ve beyin magnetik rezonans (MR) görüntülemesinde patoloji saptanmadı. Yediği otun adı ve miktarı bilinmiyordu. Dış merkezdeki Glaskow Koma Skoru (GKS) 13-14, pupiller midriatik, nabız:110/dk, SS:21/dk, ateş: 37.5 C, so2: 98 (oda havasında), kan şekeri: 128 mg/dl, elektrokardiyogram sinüs taşikardisi mevcuttu.  Fizik muayenede genel durum orta, dezoryante, nonkoopere, GKS:11, bilinç kapalı, ajite,  ekstremitelerde tremoru mevcuttu. (A.Belladonna adını bu uygulamaya borçludur.)

This week we’re joined by our friend Matt Candeias from In Defense of Plants to chat about Atropa belladonna, a lethal yet beautiful plant that lives up to all of its many names, including deadly nightshade, belladonna, devil’s berries, and naughty man’s cherries (yes, really). We’ll explore the ancient myth, medieval lore, and modern murder that make up this plant’s history, and then we’ll venture into the nervous system to find out what belladonna has to do with fight or flight. Finally, we talk evolution to see how this deadly substance helps out its plant producer. Pour yourself a quarantini and listen up, making sure you’ve added the right berries to the mix, of course.
