You might have heard about Brawlout, that indie Smash Bros.-inspired game by Angry Mob Games. You might not have heard that Yooka-Laylee have been added to the game as fighters. Seeing as how Brawlout is now Donkey Kong Universe, on this episode Hyle and Shane discuss all of the ramifications: where it fits within the lore, what it means for Yooka and Laylee's world, and how the game did Swanky Kong dirty.

On today's show, Marc starts off talking about returning to Brawlout now that it's out of early access and available of Xbox One (and how they really, really, really want to love it). In addition to that, they talk about Puyo Puyo Tetris and just a smidgen of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but not too much, lest they spoil their upcoming new show, "Attack the Backlog." Anyway, something-something handcrafted and fan drafted, cheers and enjoy the anime-zing(ly blocky) show. We had our big April event in Dallas where we teamed up with Flight School Studio to promote their new game Island Time VR and play some awesome favorites of our own such as Battlesloths 2025, Mario Kart 8, Brawlout and more! We also demo the upcoming game from thatgamecompany called “Sky” for iOS. Finally, Extinction released from the developers behind Killer Instinct and work on many other games and unfortunately it doesn't quite make the mark. Our news features Apple's leak of a VR/AR headset in the works, some hackers making cheats in PUBG, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Nintendo's focus at E3 this year. Our discussion is about games becoming films and whether or not we should continue to pursue them. If we do continue to make them, how can filmmakers create movies that do the game justice? With Rampage becoming a movie and things like Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed not doing the best, we're not sure what to expect. Well that sure took us by surprise. Right before Valentine's Day, we've fallen in love with a new game called Celeste. This is a little indie platformer where you climb a mountain in one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences we've ever played. It's gorgeous, difficult as all hell and the story and soundtrack are wonderful. We also play Brawlout, a game similar to Super Smash Bros. exclusive to the Switch. It also has The Drifter and Juan from Guacamelee. We're cool with that. In our news, one man spends too much time playing games, Nintendo has obsoleted itself and Destiny 2 sold really well. We also talk a lot about Kingdom Hearts 3 and it's awesome new trailer with Mike Wazowski himself. Our discussion this week comes from our Patreon subscriber Mark Jensen. He wanted us to explore the idea of creativity versus cost in games. Where do developers draw the line in making revenue stream systems and focus on making a good game? It's a fun discussion that goes on several tangents we didn't expect, but we promise it's worth the ride. Thanks again Mark for the topic. Is Brawlout an underbaked Smash clone or a true contender? Find out as we discuss with special guess Janet Garcia @Gameonysus Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all our fans from Switch Talk!
146: Brawlout And Wolfenstein DLC Two is the loneliest number, and on this Christmas Day episode with the four of us there, only two had games to talk about. Talk about your Christmas Grinches. That's alright, I'm sure Santa will bring plenty of great games this year for the gang. That is, unless he brings coal. Gary leads us off and he talks Battlefront II, the newest one. He beat it and it's basically nothing special. That's being kind. He mentions "the newest one" because he also played Battlefront II from 2005. The memories are solid and the campaign is awesome. Yet, what is even more awesome is Shadows of the Empire. A classic Star Wars game in a time when we get neither good games or movies. Plus, Dash Rendar is a badass and gets a jetpack. Gary then briefly mentions Wolfenstein DLC and Little Nightmares, but is really waiting to talk about Immortal Rednecks. I don't want to spoil anything. Just go listen. Then Brian, with Hoppenhelm, a endless runner of sorts. Basically, a Brian Shitter Game™. He also played Brawlout. Not to be confused with Brawlhalla, which is also a Super Smash Bros.-like game. However, Brian does not like it. Lastly, more Breath of the Wild DLC. Brian is really enjoying himself and finding new things. What more could you ask for? We thought it was going to be a light news week with the holiday and all, but that doesn't seem to be the case. We've got plenty to talk about, so buckle up for Atari delays, Dragon Quest Builders, Cuphead goes double platinum, and more. And guys get in those questions for our last episode of 2017. In today's ridiculously titled episode, Marc starts off talking about something you should know about dollar movie theaters, that is, at least according to reddit. After that, Marc jumps back into the pool of spring anime with previews of SukaSuka (WorldEnd: What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us?) and Seikaisuru Kado (KADO: The Right Answer), before ending with a preview of the Early Access brawler aptly titled, Brawlout. Anyway, cheers and enjoy the anime-zing(ly bad) show. Anyway, that's it and that's all folks, and, if you're feeling extra generous, you can become a patron, donate a little something-something, or subscribe to show your support for the site, podcast(s), and all the ridiculous jazz we make over here at Pixelated Sausage. And don't forget, you can also support the site by shopping at Amazon if that's your jam--you can probably buy jam on Amazon too.
