Customs and Border Protection's Office of Information Technology says it's reviewing the loss of three physical servers, a public records request shows. According to a document produced by CBP's Cybersecurity Directorate, about 200 government devices have been stolen or gone missing in recent years. Of these devices, 140 were cell phones, and just under 40 were laptops. No items were reported to be lost abroad, according to the document. That federal employees would have lost phones and tablets isn't surprising. FedScoop has reported on lost electronics at the U.S. Agency for International Development and NASA, and agencies often review inventories of employee devices. Still, the loss of government-furnished equipment can raise concerns about the security of sensitive data. Some federal employees have even been caught stealing government IT equipment in order to sell it. The loss of three servers is somewhat unusual. The agency did not answer a series of questions about the lost servers, including what data they might have held or whether the losses were ever reported to law enforcement. In response to FedScoop questions, an agency spokesperson said, “CBP is currently reviewing this issue.” The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency must brief Congress on proposed deep cuts to agency personnel, a top Democrat said in a letter to its acting director. California Rep. Eric Swalwell, ranking member of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection, wrote in the letter to acting Director Bridget Bean on Thursday that CISA is obligated to notify Congress of its plans. CISA reportedly plans to cut agency staff by nearly 40%, or 1,300 people. Swallwell wrote in his letter that “upending an agency that plays such an important role in defending the homeland while keeping Congress in the dark is wholly unacceptable,” adding that CISA hasn't provided the subcommittee any justification for the cuts or explained how it will execute its congressionally mandated mission with a fraction of the workforce and resources. CISA had already cut 130 probationary staffers, a move blocked in court before being overturned in an appeal. The Daily Scoop Podcast is available every Monday-Friday afternoon. On this week's episode of 'The Saturday Show with Jonathan Capehart': The House passes critical aid for Ukraine and Israel in a rare Saturday session, but it could cost Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson his job. Now Democrats may have to help save him from the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene and others in his own party. California Rep. Robert Garcia and Punchbowl reporter Andrew Desiderio are with me to discuss the stakes. Opening statements are set for Monday in Donald Trump's criminal hush-money election-interference trial. We'll take a closer look at the jury that will decide his fate, whether Trump will testify, and the tough questions he might face if he does, with legal experts Ankush Khardori and Catherine Christian. I'll also take a moment to mark the 25th anniversary of the deadly mass shooting at Columbine High School. I'll talk to Dr. Jonathan Metzl about how the massacre still haunts America today. All that and more on “The Saturday Show with Jonathan Capehart.”
Former Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney and National Review Contributing Editor Andy McCarthy is in for Jim and provides a wealth of historical and first-hand context to our three topics today.First, Andy and Greg assess Special Counsel Robert Hur's testimony surrounding the timeline confusion in Biden's testimony over allegations that he mishandled classified information. Hur's testimony puts the lie to Biden's angry denunciation that he was asked when his son died. Instead, Biden volunteered it and got it wrong.Andy also points out that Biden was found to be mishandling sensitive information for decades, including his time in the Senate. And he explains why Biden being in possession of classified info from his Senate days proves that Biden - and not his staff - is responsible for him having those documents. He also provides critical background information into another notorious example of a Democrat being caught red-handed illegally taking classified information. Next, they shudder as FBI Director Christopher Wray confirms in Senate testimony that the bureau is actively investigating allegations that human smugglers with ties to ISIS are actively moving people at our southern border. Andy says this should come as no surprise and he shares the stunning immigration enforcement incompetence that allowed the terrorist mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing to enter the U.S. illegally - even after being directly linked to a high-profile assassination overseas. Finally, they zero in on California Rep. Adam Schiff suggesting that Donald Trump should received "dumbed down" intelligence reports as the GOP presidential nominee because of the classified charges pending against him. Andy says this would not be the first time the intel community played favorites in a presidential election involving Trump, and he recalls why Schiff is the least credible advocate for this argument against the former president. Please visit our great sponsors:4Patriothttps://4Patriots.com/martiniStay connected with the Patriot Power Solar Generator 2000X on sale now.Fast Growing Treeshttps://fastgrowingtrees.com/martiniUse code Martini to save an additional 15% off on your first order.
Buckle up for three crazy martinis today!First, Jim and Greg laugh in bewilderment as a former U.S. Air Force officer is indicted for sharing classified information over a foreign dating website with someone he thought was a woman in Ukraine. And her demands for the information were not exactly subtle. Then they roll their eyes as California Rep. Katie Porter accuses billionaires of spending millions of dollars to "rig" the California Senate primary, in which she finished a distant third. And her efforts to clarify that comment did not help her case. Finally, they hammer Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for failing to pursue any consequences for heavily-indicted Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey. Not only does he refuse to demand a resignation, but Schumer still allows Menendez to receive classified briefings after being charged with corruption and bribery in connection to foreign countries. Please visit our great sponsors:4Patriothttps://4Patriots.com/martiniStay connected with the Patriot Power Solar Generator 2000X on sale now.
On today's Front Page: Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin tried to convince lawmakers that the nation's security was in safe hands during an undisclosed hospital stay last month, California Rep. Adam Schiff is a couple of steps away from becoming a U.S. senator, and more.
Join Jim and Greg as they tackle two big stories involving the House of Representatives and an absurd idea from a California U.S. Senate candidate that would plunge us into economic disaster.First, they're pleased to see the Republicans muster just enough votes to impeach Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas. It would have been much better to get this done right the first time and Mayorkas will undoubtedly be acquitted in the Senate, but the impeachment is richly deserved and it gives Republicans a chance to highlight the Biden border chaos during an impeachment trial. Then they sigh as the Democrats comfortably pick up another House seat as former Rep. Tom Suozzi wins the seat vacated by the expulsion of Republican Rep. George Santos. Donald Trump says the GOP candidate didn't embrace him enough. Other critics suggest the party is too closely identified with Trump and dysfunction in Washington. So what does this tell us might be coming in in November? Finally, they shake their heads as California Rep. Barbara Lee calls for a $50 per hour minimum wage in the latest California U.S. Senate debate and explain why her plan would create an economic catastrophe. Please visit our great sponsors:BIOptimizershttps://bioptimizers.com/martinifreeGet your Free 14-day supply of Magnesium Breakthrough today!4Patriothttps://4Patriots.com/martiniStay connected with the Patriot Power Solar Generator 2000X on sale now.

Join Jim and Greg as they serve up two bad martinis and an obvious crazy one!First, they urge states and the federal government to slam the brakes on the electric vehicle movement after the recent cold snap found EV drivers in Chicago with rapidly depleting batteries, needing to constantly spend time recharging, with some left without functioning batteries at all. Then they offer a double-fisted bad martini as President Biden shows more evidence he's completely unfit for the presidency. They note his bewildering statement about airstrikes on the Houthis not stopping Houthi aggression in the Red Sea but insisting the strikes would continue anyway. Then he gives a speech mentioning that he just took a photo with a local congresswoman only to remember a moment later that the lawmaker wasn't even there. Finally, they have fun with California Rep. Ted Lieu leading America in the charge against...glue traps to catch rodents. While workers battle for wages on the ground, our representatives look to the sky - is it a bird, is it a plane, or is it a UFO? California Rep. Robert Garcia was the leading Democrat on the subcommittee held on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena. He said the American people deserved transparency. "Inside the Issues: The Podcast" hosts Alex Cohen and Sara Sadhwani ask whether you believe. Do you believe the truth is out there? Do you believe those striking will get what they're asking for? UPS workers already have, and they're on the verge of avoiding a strike. Their deal just needs to be ratified with a vote. But the hot labor summer continues, as hotel workers continue with a third wave of their strike that's having some unintended consequences. This week, protesters showed up at the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting just like they have at the LA City Council meetings. And a newly elected council member is calling for more decorum. And finally, a former employee at the Federation of Labor is being investigated in connection with the City Hall leaked tapes.

Wednesday January 25, 2023 - American taxpayers may have reason to rejoice as Republican lawmakers introduced the Stop the Nosy Obsession with Online Payments (SNOOP) Act on Tuesday. The bill, if passed, would put an end to the Biden Administration's new requirement passed in the American Rescue Plan of 2021, for Americans to report online transactions over $600. As reported here, The IRS recently announced a "delay for implementation of $600 reporting threshold for third-party payment platforms' Forms 1099-K." California Rep. Michelle Steel and Tennessee Sen. Bill Hagerty are leading this effort in their respective chambers of Congress, looking to nix this intrusive policy forever, which is a weaponization of government against hardworking citizens. Americans have long been wary of the government's ability to intrude on their personal lives and financial information. But this new policy would have required all third-party platforms to report all online transactions over $600 the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This policy would leave no room for privacy between a citizen and the government. The SNOOP Act would revert back to the old rules, where third parties reported amounts of $20,000.00 or more AND 200 transactions. Attorney Steven A. Leahy reports on these developments on Today's Tax Talk. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/snoop-scoop-new-gop-bill-would-put-stop-irss-600-online-reporting-requirement https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/irs-aims-cut-back-1099-211701325.html https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/bill-to-abolish-the-irs-likely-dead-in-the-house-gop-lawmaker-predicts/ar-AA16JnrZ https://chicago.suntimes.com/columnists/2023/1/25/23571245/irs-policy-penalties-senior-citizen-monica-toth-supreme-court-jacob-sullum-column --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/steven-leahy1/message

As politics grew increasingly violent in the 1850s, Americans understood that unresolvable conflicts over the extension of slavery and the disproportionate political power of the slaveholders could lead to disunion and war. In the view of some historians, activism outside Congress, driven by radical abolitionists as well as pro-slavery ruffians, forced the major parties to seek compromises to hold the country together, only to fall short because of the immensity of the problem and intransigence of the Slave Power. This political turmoil produced prolonged and acrimonious contests for House speaker, a history that suddenly became relevant again when the House needed 15 ballots over five days to elect California Rep. Kevin McCarthy. In this episode, University of Connecticut historian Manisha Sinha, a leading authority on the history of slavery and abolition, talks about the parallels between past and present as Americans witness today's political polarization worsening.

Sara reports from the border and details how she arranged for a group of senators visiting the border to meet with trafficking victim Carla Jacinto and victim advocate Rosie Orozco to stress how President Biden's open borders policies directly assist sex traffickers and turn girls of all ages into victims of some of the worst horrors imaginable.Sara also welcomes California Rep. Darrell Issa, who shares his own story of helping to stop a human trafficker at the border in his district. They also discuss ways that the new GOP-controlled House of Representatives can act to secure the border, stifle trafficking, and reduce the flow of migrants into the U.S.Sara also reacts to President Biden breezing through the border for a photo-op and how the administration is getting very cozy with TikTok, which is just another way that the Chinese Communist Party gathers more information on Americans and others around the world. Please visit our great sponsors:Allegiance Goldhttps://protectwithsara.comClick or Call 877-702-7272 tell them Sara sent you and get $5,000 of free silver on a qualifying purchase. The election of California Rep. Kevin McCarthy as House speaker after five days and 15 ballots exposed divisions within the Republican Party that may not portend well for the immediate future of his party, the chamber, or the country. With one exception (1923), no speakership election since the Civil War needed more than one ballot. And in the antebellum U.S. is where we might find parallels to today's political turmoil. Before the Civil War, speakership fights were often acrimonious, extended affairs reflecting the nation's violent, deep political divisions over slavery. The 1855-56 speakership election took 133 ballots! In this episode, historian Sean Wilentz, author of The Rise of American Democracy, discusses which lessons from those long-ago fights apply to today's crisis of democracy.
California Rep. Kevin McCarthy has had better weeks. The Republican expected to get his party's nod to become speaker of the House this week as the new representatives were supposed to be sworn in. However, a holdout wing of the GOP has stalled McCarthy's ascent. McCarthy has been unable to win the absolute majority of votes required to become House speaker for days.Damar Hamlin's health is reportedly improving despite being in critical condition. The Buffalo Bill was hospitalized following a tackle in his team's game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday.Meanwhile, overseas, the Kremlin is facing unprecedented criticism from inside Russia after one of the deadliest attacks on its troops since the Ukraine war began. It took place on New Year's Day. Kyiv, and Russian bloggers, claim the death toll is very likely in the hundreds.Want to support 1A? California Rep. Darrell Issa joins me to discuss the mountain of lethal fentanyl that authorities have captured but he estimates that's just five percent of what is coming into the country. He also explains what he calls China's "deceive, disrupt, and exploit" strategy - that instead of waging a bloody, expensive war against the U.S., Beijing is making a ton of money killing Americans one at a time.Issa also explains why Americans must reject socialism, saying it would cripple our ability to bring peace and prosperity to many parts of the world and there will no recovering from it.Finally, Sara highlights Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz admitting, under oath, that there is a crisis at our border and it's largely because the Biden administration refuses to punish anyone for coming here illegally. Please visit our great sponsors:My Storehttps://mystore.com/carterUse code CARTER for additional savings. The Association of Mature American Citizenshttps://amac.us/carterThe benefits of membership are great, but the cause is even greater.

Also, the Babylon Bee releases a clever new parody of 'California Girls' by the Beach Boys with 'I Wish We All Could Leave California.' New York City Bank of America tells employees to underdress so they are not bringing attention to themselves and potential crime. Pastor Jim Tarr with the Cornerstone Church and School in Basalt explains the religious discrimination he and school parents have experienced by Eagle Country in regards to COVID-19/Wuhan-China virus mandates, specifically mask mandates. The school and church maintain their belief in the Sixth Commandment, honor your mother and father. Parents have the right to choose what is best for their children, regardless of what mandates bureaucrats at local health departments and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment put in place. Karen Levine, award winning realtor with RE/MAX Alliance, 303-877-7516, joins Lorne and Kim to discuss mortgage rates and housing shortages throughout the nation. Lorne states that the Federal Reserve has now realized that inflation is not “transitory.” In fact, the Federal Reserve is looking at raising rates 2-3 times in 2022. All the dollars being flushed into the economy have resulted in the deflation of people's money. In this challenging housing market Karen has helped buyers and sellers navigate the tight supply of homes through creativity and preparation. Issues that homeowners must understand are available options. Most importantly, homeownership builds wealth for the individuals. There is still opportunity with the record low mortgage rates. Karen states you need patience and the ability to act quickly if you find a home. Kim, Lorne and Karen discuss the impact of COVID-19 deaths on housing. Another point discussed is the impact of Freddie and Fannie Mac's lending for housing. Pre-2008 they were both traded on the stock market but today the government owns them. Karen is optimistic that as Americans we are creative and innovative. She gives thanks for her blessings in 2021 and looks forward to 2022.

An extremist movement led by angry and entitled white men is spreading throughout the country, and Vermont is providing fertile ground for their violent hatred. That's the contention of Michael Shank, a resident of Brandon, who says that he is moving in order to escape armed white extremists who have been harassing him and been tolerated by local authorities. Shank made his case in an op-ed article for USA Today on Aug. 4, titled: "White extremism is winning in my Vermont town. I'm selling my animal sanctuary and moving." On Friday, August 13, 2021, Shank's neighbor, Eric Grenier, a convicted felon, was arrested on weapons charges. Shank has accused Grenier of making death threats. Shank writes that white extremists have “bullied countless people of color in Vermont, who had to flee their communities because it became increasingly hostile and unsafe for them. And now it's pushing me out, too.” Shank tells The Vermont Conversation, “Not only are people unsafe in our communities…but they are unsafe in terms of who they turn to for protection…. The very people who are supposed to protect them aren't protecting them.” He cites recent reports about racial disparities in policing in Vermont that show that Black and Hispanic drivers are 3 to 4 times more likely to be searched by police during traffic stops — despite having a lower “hit rate” for contraband. The bias that pervades policing has created a permissive environment for racial harassment and white extremism to flourish, says Shank. “Vermont has a leadership problem on this issue,” he asserts. “We are allowing the racism to metastasize.” Shank has also worked in Afghanistan as a senior policy adviser to former California Rep. Mike Honda, and he discusses what led to the Taliban retaking the country. Michael Shank is communications director for the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance. He is also an adjunct faculty member at New York University's Center for Global Affairs.

Last week, reports emerged that the Justice Department under former President Donald Trump seized data from the accounts of at least two members of the House Intelligence Committee in 2018 as part of an aggressive crackdown on leaks related to the Russia investigation and other national security matters, according to a committee official and two people familiar with the investigation. Prosecutors from Trump's Justice Department subpoenaed Apple for the data, according to the people, who were granted anonymity to discuss the secret seizures first reported by The New York Times. The records of at least twelve people connected to the intelligence panel were eventually shared, including Chairman Adam Schiff, who was then the top Democrat on the committee. California Rep. Eric Swalwell was the second member, according to spokeswoman Natalie Edelstein. The records of aides, former aides and family members were also seized, including one who was a minor, according to the committee official. Apple informed the committee last month that their records had been shared, but did not give extensive detail. The committee is aware, though, that metadata from the accounts was turned over, the official said. The records do not contain any other content from the devices, like photos, messages or emails, one of the other people said. The third person said that Apple complied with the subpoena, providing the information to the Justice Department, and did not immediately notify the members of Congress or the committee about the disclosure.
