An episode from 9/23/24: Tonight, I read seven poems by the American poet, H. D. (Hilda Doolittle, 1886-1961). Over the course of fifty years her work – which includes fiction, memoir and translation – provides an incredible example of how a writer can handle mythology, mysticism, sexuality and autobiography. The poems can be found in Collected Poems 1912-1944: Sea Iris (1916) The Helmsman (1916) Adonis (1913-1917) Lethe (1924) Wine Bowl (1931) Eros (Uncollected/Unpublished poems, 1912-1944) Tribute to the Angels #29 (1945) You can support Human Voices Wake Us here, or by ordering any of my books: Notes from the Grid, To the House of the Sun, The Lonely Young & the Lonely Old, and Bone Antler Stone. Christian speaks at length with Steve Norris, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the UK Department for Transport between 1992 and 1996, who was the key Rail Minister serving John Major's Conservative Government in delivering the privatisation of Great Britain's railways and the creation of new industry structures.  While reflecting on the passenger growth which followed the 1993 Railways Act as well as candidly examining the shortcomings which emerged, Steve has much to say about flaws in the rail reform programme being promoted by today's Conservative Government, plus some pointed questions for Labour's alternative [2:30].  With the Labour Party having just published proposals for bus reform across England, Christian looks at what this could mean for cities and regions aspiring to enjoy bus networks more like those taken for granted in London [31:48].

Imagine being a small child on a small boat in the middle of the sea. A storm sets in and you cannot see land in any direction. You are tossed and turned in the waves as they cover the bow with each crash and you wonder how you will survive. Now imagine that your dad is also on the boat with you. He tells you to sit and hold on and that all will be well. He is confident and in charge and shows no fear. The confidence that your father exudes calms you and you trust that he will keep you safe. This is an image of our lives. When we face a crisis we must realize that we are but a child in the midst of the stormy sea in need of our Merciful Lord. It would be foolish for a child to try to take charge of the boat. It would also be foolish for us to try to direct our own lives. We need the steady confidence of Jesus to put our hearts at rest. The Lord must be your Helmsman whenever the waves begin to rise. Do not doubt His ability to handle everything in life (See Diary #1322).What do you do when the storms of life set in? Do you panic? Do you try to take control and handle things on your own? Or do you turn your eyes to the strength and confidence of our Lord and let Him take control of the situation? Turning to Jesus is not simply a matter of sitting back and doing nothing. Rather, turning to Him in abandon is an act of the greatest trust. That trust, when all seems chaotic and overwhelming, opens the door to His peace and keeps you safe and still no matter what comes your way. Reflect upon the way you handle difficulties in life and make the conscious choice to turn to the Divine Helmsman to direct your life through the storm.Lord, I turn to You in confidence and choose to put my full trust in You. I know that You can handle all things and that Your love and care will keep me safe. Increase my confidence in You, dear Lord, and help my heart to always remain at peace. Jesus, I trust in You. -Since we have received so many mercies at Your hand, we do feel that You will never forsake us, nor in any darkness, which may be in our path in the future, will You desert Your own. You have done too much for us, to desert us now. We have cost You so much-Oh wondrous price that You have paid for us-and You have spent so much of wise thought, and gracious act upon us, that we are persuaded You will go through with the work which Your wisdom has undertaken. But give us faith to believe this- when the stormy times come, let us not doubt, but what our Helmsman will bring us to the desired haven. Though winds and waves assault our keel, may we still find perfect peace, and rest in the thought that He, who is in the hinder part of the ship, is Master of winds and waves. Comfort Your children this morning, great Father, if any of them are in doubt just now- and bring them all into an assured confidence, and perfect restfulness in the Lord their God.-

In Season 3 of "Why Am I Telling You This?", C.M. reads what his father sent him in a series called "Letters From Pops".

We have arrived at another season finale and the last episode of the year. It is a fascinating exploration of lost and repressed phronesis, book burnings and a systemic rewriting of history as old as history itself. We will find out about the deep linguistic theories about a Borean communist homeland beyond the shit coating of ariosophy as we go looking for the oldest calendars, the oldest constellations, clocks, sail and the oldest words. I will have a go at Jung, challenge some rocket scientists, tell dark winter ghost stories about the first plantations in China, analyse the material power of Jupiter and Saturn with the help of 19th century forgotten astronomers. Tell you a tale about what I have seen on old Babylonians cylinder seals and the Sistine Chappel regarding why we show up for work on Mondays. I am going back to Europe for Christmas and New Years to meet old friends and family. Thus rather than splitting this last episode up in 3 smaller episodes you will get it all as one giant conclusion and cliffhanger which you can split up at your own will until we return again at the end of January. I don't know if that's the best way to do it in order to keep an interest in the show alive, but I've seen in the "end of the year statistics" that you dear listeners have been sharing the show like crazy on sms, WhatsApp, twitter and so on, which makes me so happy that I am sure you will be here when i get back. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Marcus!

Ken Baden has a story that holds the connotation of being uncommon, this however can't be further from the truth. Growing up Ken wasn't raised in a bad home. He kept up with his fitness and felt he was at the peak of where he wanted to be at the time.  However, an unfortunate car accident changed his life. Ken became dependent on pain pills, and now the people he thought he'd never have anything in common with  became his peers in a very destructive lifestyle. Within that year, Ken went from college to a self-described "criminal" and "degenerate".Things began to change when Ken realized his knack for sales in general, and selling himself inspecific. In 2015, after his lowest point of being homeless, sleeping  in the woods,  and a run in with death, he committed to changing his life. After 8 months of being clean, Ken went back into sales and has been growing from there every since!Join us for this incredible story of a man who lost everything, but was able to pull himself together and continue to grow!Key PointsGet Vulnerable, It adds depth to your storyYour struggle and triumph allows others to see its possible to overcomeMoney and things don't sustain your happinessSharing your full story can (literally) save someone's lifeSurround yourself by the right peopleCliches are cliches for a reasonDon't be emotionally attached to resultsConnect with Ken::Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=747745536Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/ken_2_the_b/

We discuss the much vaunted revolutionary committees, temporary governments made up of a triple alliance between the mass organisations, the Cultural Revolution Group, and the People's Liberation Army. The original aim of the revolution to promote the masses to positions of power in place of corrupt cadres was replaced by the singular quest to restore the country to order. To do this, Mao relied heavily on the PLA, as well as the cadres who not too long ago were seen as public enemy #1.Music clips are from "Sailing the Seas Depends on the Helmsman" and "The People of the World Will Surely be Victorious"00:00 Song "Sailing the Seas Depends on the Helmsman"00:25 Introduction06:23 January Revolution11:50 Song "The People of the World Will Surely be Victorious"12:05 The Triple Alliance14:10 The February adverse current23:20 The Wuhan incident26:24 The 516 purge29:30 Resitance to demobilisation38:10 The failure of the revolution

America's Cup teams are more likely to turn towards Olympic medalists and world champions when selecting helmsman in the future. Dean Barker has said he is unsure whether he wants to go around for another America's Cup cycle. The Kiwi helmsman's campaign with American Magic has ended after a 4-nil whitewash by Luna Rossa in the challenger semi-finals.Barker says it's too soon to know what's next for him."America's Cup will never be out of system. I can't really say what the future holds right now. It takes it's toll, for sure."AUT Sailing Professor Mark Orams told The Devlin Radio Show that this has been a three and a half year campaign that will need to be reviewed, not just the last few weeks, and Barker's future will be determined during that process. However, he says that they need someone more like a Peter Burling as helmsman - younger, world champion, Olympic medallist - and American Magic has that in Paul Goodison. "The future of the America's Cup sailors, in this foiling generation, doesn't look like a near 50-year-old, experienced statesman. It looks like a young up and coming guy, full of confidence, fighter-pilot type aggression in the way they approach the sailing.""Dean Barker still has value - he's very experienced, very respected - but in my view, it would probably be more view as a coach or someone who sat on the management of the team."He says there are 150 members of American Magic, not just Baker, but the helmsman usually gets most of the blame. LISTEN ABOVE

Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: www.divinemercy.lifeCopyright © 2020 My Catholic Life! Jay Saenz Jay Saenz holds two titles at Oliver Russell in Boise—Digital Marketing Manager and Helmsman for Good. His latest project is taking plastic that would typically end up in the waste stream and making it into durable, usable products at the new company PlasticWorks. Since its inception just seven short weeks ago, the company has built the machinery necessary to create real products from our un-recyclable waste. He showed up to the studio with a compelling tile that was surprisingly attractive and sat down with us to talk shop and the philosophy of socially conscious entrepreneurship that drives him to do good work. Jay got into digital marketing by accident and landed his job at Oliver Russell by way of an art installation. He serendipitously met Russ Stoddard while working on a large scale black and white portrait project years ago. He says that he spent 40 minutes with every person he photographed for the endeavor and Russ inspired him with his vision of using capitalism as a force for good. Ultimately, Jay says the company fit perfectly with his personal ethos and he felt like it was the right opportunity to scale up his beliefs.   PlasticWorks is just one of the many projects currently underway at Oliver Russell and Jay tells us that the company is a driving force in promoting future fitness for businesses of all sizes. Jay’s position at the company requires that he constantly stay up to date on the latest trends in progressive business ideas. He helps ensure the company is continually living up to its values of creative collaboration and socially responsible, progressive business policies.

Warp Five: A Star Trek Enterprise Podcast

Alternate Crew.     When the NX-01 Enterprise was completed, Starfleet knew that the first warp five-capable ship needed a crew who were at the top of their respective fields. This new class of starship would be traveling to places previously unseen by human eyes, and developing new relationships (and, sometimes, rivalries) with new species. The crew had to be not only extremely capable, but also adaptable, as they literally did not know what they would find beyond the boundaries of the Sol system. And so, a question came to mind - would any crew members from other Star Trek series fit into these same positions on the NX-01? In this episode of Warp Five hosts Brandon-Shea Mutala, Patrick Devlin, and Brandi Jackola reveal their other series picks for the NX-01 bridge crew. They discuss death glares, Captain Lorca's tribble, fitting in with season three, Voyagerprise, THE WOMEN!, engineering vs. science, and how with a different captain, movie night might turn into karaoke night. Season Two Travis Mayweather Moments.   The Enterprise NX-01 is known in Starfleet history as the first warp five-capable starship. And for every starship, there must be someone at the helm. The NX-01 was regularly helmed by Travis Mayweather, a young, quietly enthusiastic man who “couldn't call a place home unless it came with a pair of warp nacelles”. Born and raised on the cargo ship ECS Horizon, Travis was groomed to one day become captain of that ship, but instead followed his heart and joined Starfleet, to the apparent chagrin of his father. Though often not given much to do, Ensign Mayweather did have his moments throughout the series, moments often demonstrating just how important it is to have a skilled pilot at the helm. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Patrick Devlin and Brandi Jackola bring you their top five Travis Mayweather moments in season two of Star Trek: Enterprise. We discuss Action Travis, playing games with cows, vaguely worried looks, Travis as a running back, figuring out fan service, and how Mayweather can manually pilot the Enterprise through a minefield and not kill a guy stuck to the outside of the ship. I’m chatting with Posie today because of Pickets Hut, renovated by Posie and husband Andrew and now known as the Writer’s House. As far as living the creative dream goes, Posie has made it happen; the duo live on 80 hectares on the edge of some of Australia’s most spectacular wilderness in southern Tasmania, and she loves nothing more than solitude and ‘being attuned to quiet and unpeopled landscapes’. And according to Posie, the cold winters that Tasmania is renowned for are perfect for a writer. The author is up to book number seven, which has stalled for the moment while Posie and her husband concentrate on their accommodation business, including the Writer’s House and Helmsman’s House, at Frenchman’s River. Be careful not to make people, places, and things more important than what is right. Become too attached, too emotionally involved, and you will surely bring about those moments of truth that require soul-wrenching decisions."- How Your Mind Can Keep You Well"A mind forced to make decisions is always in conflict with itself, and from frustration and anger, a mist arises in the mind that further clouds our reason. First we have conflict, but as we make excuses and establish those excuses as 'truth,' we have confusion."- How Your Mind Can Keep You Well"Approach each problem with the awareness of Now. Wait until the time is right for action without submitting the decision to some elaborate reasoning process. Be patient. True life does not filter down through the intellectual processes for you to consult. Faith is a 'mindless' trust in God, the source of the faith impulse; for what is seen is made by what does not appear."- Beyond the Known"When you commit yourself to the right way, you are obviously making a kind of decision, a decision to obey the right in your heart; but this is the decision that puts an end to the sin of decision-making. From now on, the Light will always be there to make the way ahead perfectly plain, and since you are committed, you will see clearly what to do. After all, when you come to the edge of a cliff, you don’t have to ‘decide’ to back away!"– Secret Power of Words"When you are in your center, when you are objective, then there are no decisions to make. You see only the way you must go. Everything you do naturally turns out right. You are not drawn in anywhere you are not supposed to be.
