Welcome to a special episode that delves into the intersection of business and politics, offering a unique perspective on the significant political landscape of 2024. Join me and my great friend Christian May, former editor of City AM, as we unravel the dynamics where business and politics intertwine, shedding light on aspects often overlooked by the mainstream political media. Having experienced the frustration of business not receiving the coverage it deserves during my time in Downing Street, I felt compelled to create this new series. Our conversations, reminiscent of those shared over drinks at the pub, are now reaching a wider audience. We've always wondered why people aren't listening to us during these discussions, so we decided to turn up the volume and share our insights with you. In this episode, we dive into the recent developments, including Labour's big business day and the Prime Minister's announcement of a new business council, along with initiatives to reboost growth. The week's events provide a captivating backdrop to explore the intricate relationship between business and politics. Join us on this journey as we navigate the fascinating world of helping individuals and businesses understand and navigate government policies. With over a decade of experience in both business and politics, Christian and I reflect on our time at the Institute of Directors, where our journey began back in 2012. Tune in for a compelling discussion that goes beyond the headlines, offering valuable insights into the behind-the-scenes workings of the business and political realms. We don't need a Conservative Resurgence, we need a Christian Reformation. Getting America back to the 90's simply won't do, we must get all the way back to the Scripture. National repentance is the only way, and it must start with the Church.
Der Biohof May wird nach einem Großbrand in 2015 von Rebekka & Christian May in bereits vierter Generation geführt. Amy Quinn and Joe Walsh talk more surfing as we talk to Rodney Salomon from KYDS Asbury Park (which stands for Konscious Youth Development & Service) and Christian May from the Asbury Park Surf Club with the help of Ming Chen from A Shared Universe PodcaStudio. We learn how Rodney and Christian teamed up to get the kids of Asbury Park (or Neptune or Long Branch) onto their beaches, into the water and up on a board. This is not as simple as it sounds, as you will hear.

Christian was appointed as the Editor at City AM five years ago, it has a brilliant reputation for nurturing exceptional talent, the likes of Oliver Shah, Sunday Times business editor, kate McCann of Sky News, Julian Harris and Tom Welsh of the Daily Telegraph all started their careers at the paper. it has been an incredible five years in the UKs history and we get his reflections on how journalism has changed in that period. The core skills still remain of curiosity, judgment, fearlessness, scepticism but not cynicism remain key to being a good journalist. Christian also made clear that the more traditional skills of writing good copy can be taught on the job.We hear how the young journalists pitch themselves in a much broader sense. This is the penultimate episode of the pilot series, so I am keen to hear feedback, particularly from those starting out on their careers such as students or.A reminder you can sign up to the newsletter here. In the first episode of the City View's new weekly format, Christian May talks to veteran broadcaster and journalist Alastair Stewart about a wave of disruption hitting the broadcast media. The BBC has a new Director General while its former star presenter is launching a rival news channel. What will this do to the media landscape and how should established players respond? Alastair also talks about his belief in the value of impartiality; where ITV went wrong in the digital arms race; why he can't stand opinionated journalists; what real diversity looks like; and why the advice he gives young reporters hasn't changed in 40 years. Today Andy Silvester steps in for Christian May, and talks to WeWork's UK boss Mathieu Proust. The property firm's chief offers his opinions on the value of office space and flexibility, the future of London as a global hub and the outfit's plans to rebound from a dire 2019. Andy also looks at the latest in the ongoing saga over the future ownership of TikTok, the backlash to plans for tax rises in the UK and the upcoming hike in the price of a humble plastic bag.

True beauty is not mere physical features that fade and pass away with age. True beauty -the beauty of Jesus Christ- transforms the heart, speech, and conduct of a person or a family. True beauty increases with age -Proverbs 31-30-. With all of the wrinkles and shriveled skin that will come to us all in the aging process, yet may it be said of us, -What a beautiful Christian-- May the grace of Jesus Christ make you more and more beautiful in spite of all the trials and tribulations of this life. Let not those heartaches and afflictions harden your heart or your countenance, but rather let all the sorrows of this wilderness soften and beautify you.----Just as the countenance of Moses was full of light from the time spent in the presence of Jesus, so shall the time you spend in the presence of Jesus -privately and publicly- cause your life to shine and to be beautified by Him whose glory is more beautiful than anyone or anything in the universe that He has created.
I beg you, Lord, let the fiery, gentle power of your lovetake possession of my soul, and snatch it awayfrom everything under heaven, that I may die for love of your loveas you saw fit to die for love of mine.~ Francis of Assisi (1182-1226) Click Image Above to View Worship Guide

Thank you for getting us to 200 episodes! Thank you for listening to the podcast, watching our videos on YouTube, coming out to the events, design houses and remote recording sessions. Thank you for reaching out on social media and better yet, in person to tell me you like the show, disagreed with me about something I said or make a suggestion for a future guest or topic. The show is now in its sixth year and this is episode 200. I wanted to do something special this week and for the past few months, I have been listening back to past episodes starting with the very first episode of Convo By Design, recorded in early 2014 with artist. Since then, I have recorded over 300 individuals in one-on-one interviews, panel discussions, group conversations and project tours. The show has been all over Southern California. We have recorded from Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Tucson, the Grand Canyon, Marfa, Texas and Big Sky, Montana. Convo By Design has taken you to the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts, Wattles Mansion, WestEdge Design Fair, WestWeek, Modernism Week, LA Design Festival, Fall Market and tours of homes with some of the worlds greatest and most talented creatives. I am not going to name them all here and of course, I can’t mention everyone but if you keep listening to the podcast, you will, at some point, hear from them again. I have scoured through past episodes so you can hear again from some amazing, interesting, thought provoking and wonderful people. We revisit moments with architects, designers, set decorators, musicians, chefs, makers of policy and others who are leading the way as it relates to the way we live. Before we get into this episode, I wanted to tell you why I do this podcast. I have been asked about the story in the past and I do love telling the story because this show was created using the ashes of one of my greatest failures. I am a brand manager by trade. After many years in brand development with companies like CBS and iHeartRadio, I was consulting for California Home and Design Magazine. After a lifetime loving design and architecture, I was thrilled to be working in the industry. At that time, I got the chance to produce my first design house called Small Space, Big Style. We had designers: Molly Luetkemeyer, Azadeh Shladovsky, Brian Patrick Flynn, Erinn Valencic, Christian May, Anette and Mary from Potted, a really amazing group. After the penthouse opened, we had events, parties, meetings, all kinds of really intriguing content. And I recorded not one moment of it. Sure, I have the leave behind books and a box of the issues showing the 12 pages of edit… and if you look for this design house, you will find two videos produced by the magazine. I remember feeling like all of this work went into a project and it just disappeared int the ether. That was in 2012. The design house closed in 2013 and I spent all of 2013 planning and working on Convo By Design. I had another podcast project prior to this one, but it wasn’t what I wanted. Further proof that our first concept or idea is rarely the final product. And along that same line of thinking, Convo By Design hasn’t stopped changing since the very first episode. There are a couple of things that have remained constant, one of those is the partnership of our presenting sponsor, Snyder Diamond. Over 200 episodes, we have heard from many designers. I love being around designers because the ideas rarely stop flowing and when talking about design, there are so many different styles and personalities, here are a few of the designers you have heard from over the past five years: Estee Stanley Jaime Rummerfeild Kyle Schuneman Ryan Saghian Timothy Corrigan Cesar Giraldo Ryan White Cliff Fong Lori Dennis Is LA Losing It’s Cool… This clip is one of my absolute favorites. First, it features moderators Mallory Roberts Morgan and Frances Anderton. I am a huge fan of both ladies. Second,
Jake Wallace breaks down the biggest high school playoff games in our area. Then he takes a loot at the big college rivalry games going down Friday and Saturday night.

In 2012 I was consulting for a home and design magazine in Los Angeles and during that time, I produced my first design house. I truly loved the experience. I had the opportunity to work with amazing and talented designers like Azadeh Shladofsky, Molly Luetkemeyer, Christian May, Erinn Valencich and Potted amongst others. The house was in the heart of Hollywood, called Small Space, Big Style as it was a fourteen hundred square foot penthouse. We were open for about four months and there is very little remaining of this in the public space. There are a few videos on YouTube, some old blog posts and of course, back issues of the magazine. But no real documentation of what went into the project, the work of the immensely talented designers or the collaboration with the brand partners on the project like Snyder Diamond and the Warner Bros Prop Department. But there are the memories and the friendships that remain to this day. This episode features two conversations with two wonderful designers and truly exceptional people. First up is Leslie Shapiro Joyal of Shapiro Joyal Studio. Leslie and I spoke just before the opening of the Wattles Mansion Design House in 2017. Leslie was the first designer I spoke with on this project, her space was my first impression and what an impression it was. Sweeping views of Los Angeles from the Hollywood Hills location. How do you frame that as a designer? Well Leslie is going to tell you how she did it. And, she is also going to tell you about designing a showcase and working with unforeseen circumstances, like a pack of wild raccoons stealing your accessories every night. Seriously. Next up is Annette Gutierrez, a friend, amazing person and half of the design team behind Potted. She and Mary Gray provided the outdoor space in that Small Space Big Style design house in Hollywood and we have been friends ever since. Annette and I caught up at the WestEdge Design Fair in 2017. Potted provided plants and accessories for our Kelley Jackson designed California Beach Follies Cabana. I’m telling you the story about Small Space, Big Style because the idea behind a design ouse is that of any pop-up. Here for a short time and then gone. I stared Convo By Design to provide a lasting point of reference for these fleeting but shining moments in Southern California design. So, I hope you enjoy it and hopefully, it can provide some inspiration for your next project.

On this week’s Murnaghan podcast – Boris Johnson was said to have been left “absolutely furious” after it was reported last week that he privately disclosed to a handful of EU Ambassadors that he supports freedom of movement, despite the Government’s ‘hard’ stance on Brexit. Dermot puts these claims to the Foreign Secretary, Mr Johnson. UKIP’s newly elected leader, Paul Nuttall, has said he intends to replace the Labour party and make UKIP the patriotic voice of working people. We hear from Angela Eagle, the Labour MP for Wallasey, who stood against Jeremy Corbyn in the party's leadership race. Christian raised eyebrows when appointed Editor of City AM, joining the paper aged 28 with no prior senior editorial experience. In this in-depth interview, he reveals how he was unexpectedly offered the job over dinner with the founders; describes the transition from PR and public affairs to journalism; discusses the initial challenges he faced and his approach to editing; defends giving advertisers the ability to publish directly to their website, and speculates about building on the success of the paper by expanding into new territories.
