Welcome to another episode of a Modern Nonprofit Podcast! Today we will focus on the conversation with Pat Taggart, Chief Creative with Sky Blue Creative. The firm Sky Blue Creative is in the business of helping both for profit and nonprofits tell their story and share their missions through video media. The Importance of Winning Hearts (& Donations) If you've ever been to a non profit fundraising event, hopefully it's been obvious to you what the organization stands for and how their event is raising money and awareness for their cause. Tosha, being in the industry as long as she has, likes to study the events she attends to identify what works and what doesn't. Some questions she asks may Are they using print or video material? What stands out? What's unique? What's different? How is the organization telling its impactful story compared to other organizations? All of these questions combine to help us understand if the organization is achieving the goal of expressing its mission at the said fundraising event. We also need to understand why being able to do this is so important, and that is exactly where Pat and Sky Blue Creative come into play. Pat says, ‘I think that you have a really wonderful opportunity when you're doing great work in the world to make people feel your impact. And there's a very big distinction between telling people about your impact and making them feel it. Wow, words of wisdom from Pat! This is exactly what he and his team achieve day in and day out. It sounds complex, but it's actually pretty simple. Pat shares an experience working with a corporate for profit company that had an Employee Hardship Program. The program was designed to seek donations from employees, something like $1 a pay period, to go in a fund that would later support employees who had experienced any type of hardship. This could be as severe as a house fire, or maybe something less. Pat introduced the idea of interviewing those who had been selected to receive help from this program and ask them about their experience. Or to have them tell their story. Literally overnight, the fund participation increased nearly 400%. Why? Because Pat was able to help the organization feel the impact of the fund, not just tell them about it. Tosha and Pat close the conversation with a very important Q&A, “if you were a nonprofit leader, what should they be looking for when hiring a videographer to tell their story?” Understand their process A leader would not want to hire someone who is very scripted and attempts to treat the content like a feature film. Ultimately finding someone aligned with the philosophy of the organization so they understand the story is already there and it is their job to unearth it, not recreate it. Find a partner Some film makers may limit the amount of time editing or changes to the production, but Pat encourages the listeners to find a partner in someone so that at the end of the day the video will tell the organization's story. Own your footage In other cases, there are content creators out there who will not allow the entity to own 100% of the raw footage in fear that they will find a different producer to make content with that footage. Pat tells the listeners that finding someone who does that right job, won't need to worry about keeping the footage. So, long story short, own 100% of the raw footage and find a producer that allows for this. If you heard the podcast today and are interested in learning more or connecting with Pat, check out their website Sky Blue Creative or find him on LinkedIn. Please be sure to engage with the interview. Whether you enjoy listening to it, reading about it, or watching us on YouTube, make sure you review, share, and engage with A Modern Nonprofit Podcast. On today's episode of The Real Estate Sales Podcast, Jimmy talks with Jason Gruner, a luxury home agent from Nashville, about how to generate more luxury listings through video storytelling.  What does Jason do? Jason has found that every home is unique, especially luxury listings. Jason tells that home's unique story to the buyers through long-form, agent-on-camera, video.  He films a 10 to 15-minute walk-through of your home and tells the personal stories that make this home special.  What is the framework of Jason's videos? There has to be a great hook within the first five seconds and then something to keep them watching till the end of the video.  He tries to imagine he is showing the house to one of his friends. He tells the personal stories of the house and hits the emotional side of things.  How does Jason distribute the video? They post long-form videos on Facebook, Youtube, and LinkedIn. They spend the majority of their budget on Youtube because of the ability to easily target active homebuyers.  On Facebook, they focus on people within a specific location who have recently viewed real estate websites. LinkedIn is more expensive than Youtube and Facebook, so Jason focuses on organic traffic.  What do the results look like? Jason pays 5 to 10 cents per view. He sees it as a no-brainer because the views are so cheap and sellers are going to be expecting this for their homes.  How does Jason pitch to sellers?  He has a 20-page guide of his specific “Tell Your Story” method. He takes 1% of the list price and spends it on marketing to sell the home.  How does Jason film short-form videos? They film short-form on an iPhone in vertical format. They pick 15 spots in the house and film a video in each.  A 7 to 59-second video in each spot tells a story, then the CTA is directing people to the full video.  They post the videos on five platforms; Facebook reels, Instagram reels, Tiktok, LinkedIn, and Youtube shorts.  Jason recommends putting good captions on the video because lots of people watch without sound.  Connect with Jason on Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and his website.  Do you have a video or content idea perfect for your business? The last time I had Jude on my podcast, it turned out to be one of my favorite conversations and one of the reasons I wanted this season of the Mindset First Podcast to go deeper. Jude helps business owners leverage the power of storytelling to grow his business - but somehow we don't ever really get to that topic because this time I invited Jude back to talk about what it means to have relentless courage in business. Jude has worked with 7 figure businesses to grow their business using documentaries - but now he's in a bit of a transition that many might think is crazy. Or at the very least contrary to what most do in business. But that's who Jude is and how he has actually grown his life and self in ways that many of us don't even dare. I hope this episode inspires you to think about your own life and what it means to have relentless courage.

When Jude Charles was 17, he took a video production class. At the end of the year, Jude's teacher handed him a yellow envelope and told him that he had to start a business. Inside was his first set of business cards. Since then, Jude has dedicated his life to helping purpose-driven entrepreneurs tell their stories. He firmly believes that “Stories aren't just how we connect as people and human beings but story is what differentiates you from someone else.” In this episode of Wingnut Social, Jude emphasizes that you have to start sharing your story. Video storytelling breaks through the noise and sets you apart. Jude shares how to overcome the intimidation factor, what type of stories to tell, and shares the best way to structure your story. These stories are important to use every day on social media. You can repeat them over and over again. What are they?  Your origin story: How you got into the business you're in.  A transformational story: Testimonials, case studies, before & afters, etc. What does life look like after?  Why you're doing the work you're doing: Why should someone choose you over anyone else? But how do you get started? Jude has been a guest on over 70 podcasts. He's studied storytelling for over 20 years. He still listens to himself tell his story so he can find new ways to tell it. It also helps him learn how to connect better with an audience. If you rehearse your story and practice recording it, it makes it less intimidating.  Jude's video storytelling method: dramatic demonstration of proof You can't just sit in front of a camera and tell your story. That's boring, right? The way that you make your story interesting is by using the five different types of demonstrations: Behind the scenes: What happens as you're sourcing materials? What does the design process look like? What is going on that people don't usually get to see? Live illustration: How do you illustrate a point someone may not understand? Jude worked with someone who said, “Construction is like a puzzle.” So they got a large puzzle—of a project they had completed—and had the team put a puzzle together.  Social proof: This is testimonials, case studies, before and afters, etc.  Transformation: These are before and afters—how someone's life is transformed after a change has been made. Unique mechanism: What makes you unique that someone else can't copy? How can you demonstrate that on camera? Storytelling is about a specific moment in time. These moments have led you to where you are today. They influence how you've become a great designer. Jude points out many people believe that their story isn't unique or interesting—that no one will care. But what debunks the idea that no one cares? Telling your story. You'll realize that there will be someone it resonates with. Jude believes so strongly in the power of video storytelling that he only takes on five video production clients a year. Why? Because he works to understand who they are on a deep level. It takes time to be able to get to know someone and accurately portray the essence of who they are with video storytelling. Why you should just hit the record button Record yourself telling a story. Record yourself telling the story that you take for granted. Jude emphasizes that you shouldn't sell yourself short—or overthink it. Your clients aren't aware of everything you do to get a project completed. You want to create content so people understand what you do and can appreciate the value that you create. What you do will be different from the next interior designer. So where do you start?  Just document what you're doing every day to get in the habit of creating content. You don't need fancy equipment to get started because every smartphone is equipped with a great camera. You don't even have to share it on social media. If you share a video of your process with a potential client, it makes them trust you more. It's not only social proof but it's a sales tool. You've made them part of the journey. Hearing something said 1,000 times is not as powerful as seeing it once.  Listen to the whole episode to hear Jude's video storytelling tips for content on different social media platforms, including YouTube.  Connect With Darla & Wingnut Social www.WingnutSocial.com On Facebook On Twitter: @WingnutSocial On Instagram: @WingnutSocial Darla's Interior Design Website Check out the Wingnut Social Media Lab Facebook Group! 786-206-4331 (connect with us for your social media marketing needs) Subscribe to The Wingnut Social Podcast on iTunes, Google Podcasts, or TuneIn Audio Production and Show notes by PODCAST FAST TRACK https://www.podcastfasttrack.com
