Donors crave cohesive, consistent experiences across multiple touchpoints, and getting your digital and direct mail efforts in sync can help you deliver. In this episode of the Go Beyond Fundraising podcast, we're talking with David Sacchetti, AVP of Client Strategy, about how a direct mail strategy backed by a complementary digital campaign can help solve the myriad challenges today's fundraisers face. No matter where you are with each channel, David offers actionable advice for leveling up. We discuss the importance of storytelling across channels to guide donors toward giving, with David sharing the digital trends that fit perfectly into a direct mail–first campaign. We also cover why your fundraising and marketing teams must work together to ensure brand impressions become donations.

"You must be ready to burn yourself in your own flame. How can you rise anew if you have not first become ashes?" - Friedrich NietzscheIf you have been listening to this show for any length of time, you know we have a pretty sharp focus on company culture. We've covered the subject up one side and down the other with guests, musings from our host, and even quotes relative to the subject. One thing we have not done regularly is give specific ways to build a strong and cohesive culture in your company. Today, that is all going to change as our very own Jay Doran discusses several ways to do just that. We hope you enjoy this episode of The Culture Matters Podcast.
Hey friend! I love Amazon just as much as the next guy, but sometime the "I want it yesterday" mentality can distract us from the goals we have for decorating a more cohesive, unified looking home. In today's episode I'm teaching you about the concept of SLOW DECORATING - what it is, why it's beneficial and how to do it. HINT...if you haven't yet registered for the Better Than Basics Bootcamp and you are wanting to decorate with intention in your home, you're going to want to save your seat before they fill up. You register at: Better Than Basics Bootcamp What is slow decorating: mindfully choosing items for your home instead of the quick push to finish a room fast. What are the benefits: less pressure, more time for budgeting, trend-proof styling and the ability to embrace different 'styles' because you are in more alignment with your personal aesthetic. How to decorate slowly: know your aesthetic, how your room needs to function and the ways your home is looking or lacking cohesiveness (I teach all of this in the Better Than Basics Bootcamp); know where your products are being made and the quality; honoring your budget by making intentional choices; shop local, handmade, flea markets, antique stores; be prepared to be surprised. Better Than Basics Bootcamp April 29 - May 1 9am PST | 10 am MST | 11am CST | 12pm EST ...................................... In this episode, Katie Lamb returns to dive deep into the elements that create a true light and airy photography style. The variety of practice models in the United States emergency healthcare system is numerous and most of them involve both physicians as well as advanced practice providers (physician assistants and nurse practitioners). Yet, the preparation for how to supervise an APP from a physician perspective, or what to expect from a physician colleague from the APP perspective is not standardized. In this chapter, we sit down with Dr. Eric Boie who is the current medical director for the APP practice at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as well as Mr. Jeff Wood, PA-C who has been the supervisor of the APPs both in our health system as well in Rochester for nearly a decade until just recently - to discuss our current model of practice, how it supports resident education, how to support APPs autonomy and optimize patient care, how to handle when things don't go as planned and more. Kelly Fink, general manager of Milesbrand, and Courtney Stewart, VP of client relations at Denim Marketing, join host Carol Morgan to discuss the 2025 International Builders' Show (IBS) on this week's Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio episode. In this podcast segment, Fink and Stewart discuss what most excites them about IBS and what topics they hope are discussed during sessions at the event. Connections – Old and New IBS is not only the largest annual light construction show in the world, but also a chance for home builders, suppliers, agents, marketers and other real estate leaders to get together and foster connections. Fink is most excited to see some of Milesbrand's clients in person at The Nationals awards and meet with her fellow trustees on the National Sales and Marketing Council. Topics to Look for at IBS 2025 There are many highly anticipated topics for IBS 2025, from use of AI and data for marketing to housing affordability and how builders are constructing homes in response to recent natural disasters. Stewart said, “I think one of the conversations that we have a lot, that I am expecting people to talk about on the education side, is how to reach the right audience for your communities, your homes, and then how to convince them to buy despite the market conditions.” Fink, along with Lisa Welter of JTB Homes and Carol Morgan of Denim Marketing, will be discussing strategies for brand growth during the “Building an Impactful Brand: Beyond Colors and Logos” session. Fink's portion of the session focuses on branding strategies for master-planned communities. From the Great Recession to COVID-19 pandemic, master-planned communities must be able switch branding focus to adapt to economic challenges. Welter will discuss how her company differentiates its two brands and Morgan discusses how to make social media branding stand out. “So, the topic, is ‘Beyond Logos and Colors.'” said Fink. “You know, really understanding more about why it's so important to build an effective brand and invest in that for long term success.” Morgan will also be presenting in the Jam (b) session: “Do This, Not That: What Homebuilder Marketing Experts Really Want Builders to Do.” This fast paced session also features Greg Bray with Blue Tangerine, Barbara Wray with Wick Marketing and Dennis O'Neil with ONeil Interactive Inc., this session will highlight best practices for digital marketing in the housing industry. Brand Identity and Common Mistakes Builders Make Stewart and Fink also share some of their best tips for establishing a brand identity and how to avoid making common mistakes that drive away customers. Cohesive messaging: It's important to create a personality for your brand and stick to it! Whether that's with a new brand kit or editing photos for social media, there are many ways to take your branding to the next level with consistency. Unique brand DNA: If you were to remove the name and logo off two builder websites, would you know the difference? Identity begins with individuality, which is what Fink is trying to communicate to clients. Fink said, “If you're not aligned, you're not going to create the same experience for each buyer.” Use a CRM: Data is everything when it comes to digital marketing. It is important for builders to understand their buyers and follow the buyer's journeys through the site, social media and email campaigns. “It helps us to be able to track what's happening and get better data that ties in, you know, with your website data, with the online data that we can see on social,” said Stewart. “All of those different things, and being able to follow that, your buyer journey, through to the CRM and what happens is so important.” They also mention the importance of visual strategy with quality photography and decorated models at communities, as well as regularly updating your website and social media. “That's the first thing people usually come to gather information about you,
Hey friend! Have you ever wondered how to make oversized sectionals an intentional part of a room's design or are they always destined to ruin the aesthetic of the room? In today's episode I'm chatting with Kristen, the owner of a large black (very cozy looking) sectional. The sectional, however, takes up considerable space within her room and although black makes sense, she also has a white armchair in the same room. With two contrasting colors the question became - how do you make the room look cohesive without starting over from scratch and spending a fortune on another sofa? You'll hear the answer to that question as well as many others inside this sneak peek of a Decorating SOS coaching call. Are you ready to book YOUR Decorating SOS Coaching Call? He emphasizes that autonomy, competition, and the desire to impact the business are key motivators. Understanding these can help CROs better tailor their leadership and incentive structures.Curiosity as a Differentiator: Top-performing salespeople often exhibit a strong sense of curiosity and a willingness to learn. CROs should foster an environment that encourages intellectual engagement and peer learning to enhance team performance.Recognition and Accountability: Building a cohesive sales team involves recognizing contributions from all team members, not just those who close deals. CROs should focus on fostering a culture of inclusivity and accountability, which aligns with company values and encourages collective success.Sales Enablement and Data-Driven Coaching: Effective sales enablement requires moving beyond content overload to live training sessions and leveraging tools like Gong for data-driven coaching. CROs should ensure their teams have access to insights that can improve performance and identify areas for development.Building a Winning Mindset: In challenging market conditions, CROs should inspire their teams by sharing stories of underdogs who have succeeded against the odds. This involves setting high standards while motivating teams to achieve them through clear, consistent expectations and support.Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Yb1wPzUxyrfR0Dx35ym1A Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-build-a-coaching-culture/id1699901434 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NvYWNoMnNjYWxlLWhvdy1tb2Rlcm4tbGVhZGVycy1idWlsZC1hLWNvYWNoaW5nLWN1bHR1cmU Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/fd188af6-7c17-4b2e-a0b2-196ecd6fdf77 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-5419703 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Coach2Scale CoachEm™ is the first Coaching Execution Platform that integrates deep learning technology to proactively analyze patterns, highlight the "why" behind the data with root causes, and identify the actions that will ultimately improve business results going forward. Hey Friend! Welcome to 2025 and a brand new series on the fig & farm (at home) podcast. Every Tuesday I'll be answering listener questions in my new Dear Dani series. Have a question that you want answered? Leave it here: hello@figandfarmathome.com Today's question comes from Amanda who wants to know how to make her home look less disjointed. The 'fancy' word we use in the design world is 'cohesive' and the goal is to do just that, but it takes a bit of work. In this episode I'm sharing 5 quick tips so you can make your home look and feel cohesive when you aren't entirely sure where to start. 5 Easy ways to make your home look cohesive 1. Learn your design style (aka your aesthetic): pay attention to the all the details of the things you gravitate to time and time again. 2. Write those details down. 3. Leave your card at home and go on a field trip to your favorite home decor store. Act as-if you are making selections and see if the things you would choose match with the design elements you noticed in tip 1. If they do...you're on to your aesthetic. If they don't...go back to tip 1 and dive in a bit more. 4. Using your list, go through the items in your home and start decluttering items that don't match that aesthetic or design style, keeping the items that do. 5. Shop your home. Once the extra items are removed, now you have the foundation for shopping your home instead of shopping the store whenever inspiration to re-decorate a room strikes Happy styling!! xo, dani // Links mentioned in show: // Email: hello@figandfarmathome.com Website: https://figandfarmathome.com Join The Collective (monthly membership): https://www.figandfarmathome.com/thecollective Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/figandfarm/ FREE Facebook Community: https://www.bit.ly/design101group

Collaboration is the most significant driver of cohesion in the workplace. It encourages everyone within the organization to give their best efforts and become engaged and attentive to the overall health of the organization. According to a study by Stanford University, teams that work well together are 50% more productive. This statistic underscores the strong connection between effective teamwork and increased productivity. When team members collaborate efficiently, they can complete more tasks and projects in less time. However, the degree of improvement varies based on team dynamics and the nature of the tasks. **Improved Decision-Making** The Harvard Business Review found that teams make better decisions 87% of the time compared to individuals. Collaboration brings diverse perspectives and ideas to the table, leading to more informed decision-making. This statistic suggests that group decision-making is often more accurate and well-rounded. https://www.sherylkline.com/blog/key-factors-to-build-cohesive-teams-with-jen-fults-global-chief-people-officer-at-alvarez-marsalIn the latest Fearless Female Leadership interview, I had the privilege of speaking with Jen Fults, the Global Chief People Officer at Alvarez & Marsal. Jen shared her journey of rising through the ranks, driven by a passion for people and an unwavering commitment to creating cohesive, high-performing teams. Throughout our conversation, her wisdom and practical insights highlighted the importance of leadership grounded in humanity, accountability, and clear communication. This interview is a must-listen for leaders striving to build strong, resilient teams, particularly as we close out the year and prepare for new challenges ahead. From fostering team cohesion to addressing burnout head-on, Jen's approach offers actionable strategies for navigating complex people challenges with grace and impact.Key TakeawaysThe Power of Grit and Resourcefulness (00:05:44)Jen credits her success to a deep sense of grit and resourcefulness, traits she honed during her early career and as an athlete. She emphasizes the importance of believing in your ability to figure things out, even when taking on roles you feel unprepared for.Building Cohesive Teams Through Empathy and Connection (00:12:02)One of Jen's core philosophies is that leaders must genuinely care about their teams' well-being. She highlighted the importance of checking in with team members, creating space for personal connection, and ensuring everyone feels supported during challenging times.Clarity as the Foundation of High Performance (00:21:32)Jen stressed the importance of clear expectations in fostering high-performing teams. Whether it's providing direct instructions or giving space for creative problem-solving, clarity ensures alignment and minimizes misunderstandings.Addressing Burnout with Transparency and Prioritization (00:27:23)When team members are feeling overwhelmed or disconnected, Jen believes in taking a two-pronged approach: self-reflection and direct communication. She encourages leaders to first assess their role in the situation and then address challenges head-on with their teams.Jen's insights remind us that leadership is not just about achieving results but also about how we achieve them. By fostering empathy, maintaining clear communication, and prioritizing well-being, leaders can create environments where both people and performance thrive. If you're a leader looking to build cohesive, high-performing teams or navigate challenges with greater confidence, I'd love to hear your story. Let's connect and explore how you can elevate your leadership journey.
#174How cohesive are your lessons? Do you feel that activities flow and connect to each other in meaningful ways, or do they sometimes seem disconnected? Today's episode is a Leveling Up episode, where I coach Cyndi, a German teacher in Idaho. Planning more cohesive lessons that flow more naturally and are connected to each other is the area where she wants to level up her teaching practice.Suggestions:Use a Consistent Daily Lesson Framework Across All Levels. A consistent framework gives you a structure to plug in content without feeling like you're reinventing the wheel every day. It also provides students with a predictable routine, which enhances engagement and learning.Focus on Key Learning Targets and Prioritize. By narrowing your focus, you avoid overloading yourself and the students. Lessons will feel more cohesive because everything revolves around a central goal, which helps bring that “flow” you're looking for. Go deep on compelling topics.Chunk Your Time for Efficient Planning. By batching similar tasks, you minimize switching costs and make the process more efficient. This also helps ensure consistency across all your classes and lessens the cognitive load.Leverage Spiral Review. Students will see the connections between lessons, and it reduces the pressure on you to cover everything perfectly in one class. By spiraling content, lessons will feel more connected and purposeful, and you'll also create natural review opportunities for students. Perhaps use that additional block each week during the extended period. Action Plan:This Week:Create a flexible lesson template for your 50-minute and 90-minute classes; figure out how the time will be chunked and determine 2-3 activities for this period of time.Focus on one learning target per lesson to maintain clarity and coherence. The Coming Weeks:Incorporate spiral review activities into extended lesson blocks to maintain flow and reinforce learning over time. You can also be a part of Leveling Up coaching episode if there is an area of your teaching that you like to improve or enhance. She's just Contradict Well, you know, I see the world very differently because I'm an impressive thinker you are like I like this arm That's me. I don't think I can possibly rank these cups in any sort of universal way though. No, no I think based on the garment that makes sense the garmento then we're if it's like a really high quality one But it has a little hole but I'm gonna fix it with I'm gonna sew it and then better make it double It's what do they call it distressed this is a distressed garment hand-stitched hand-stitched Let's see, what's it called when it's from like a did you ever make a Build-A-Bear? Yeah, you know how you like get to put a little heart in them. Oh, yeah, that's kind of like, um if you were to If you were to stitch one of them you put like a little something in there Imagine if you had your hand in your pocket and you could feel like a little heart Hands down the worst one of these pants that actually made oh my god. I love those. I'm just kidding. Yeah, these are mid Yeah, let's not look like someone had a little period mistake Poppin they turned out sick. Yeah, that's turned out great. I mean and Someone will love the third look at that for like like I kind of crushed most let me see that one I Ain't nothing special Yeah, but like it's cute. It's fun. It's funny. I was actually wearing I'm like I feel like if it had like the spongebob flowers on it, it'd really bring it all together. Yeah, and yeah, it's I'm kind of using Just whatever whatever called stamps stamps. No, but uh Shroom prints the other one iron on patches. Oh as a way of Just covering that and also being like special. Yeah special like you Just you know, it's average but someone put a bow on it It's never fun when people like we're both we're both special. Yeah So it was Kenzie and are breaking our boundaries I'm just developing a method of like okay. How are you talking to show with your partner where it's like We need to develop the fully built characters of like, okay Yeah, we have a few ideas ideas cooking. Yeah, the funny if this is okay. I just didn't really have any blue shorts Me up. Mm-hmm. Yeah, and then I just blew you I don't really mind those Yeah, they're just mid they just need like I mean they're they're like basic bitch. Yeah, but like then they can let the top shine, you know That's a good point. I know like having the bomb. Oh, look at the back though. So, yeah The inside this has like some right here Mm-hmm. And so if I press right there, this doesn't have like it's like it seems like this would have been thin enough that My guess would be that the front and back would have been like much closer match. It's like that's really cool The specific thing that you just showed me Because it looked like something Nope, it's not what I thought. I thought it looked like maybe like a skeleton dancing, but it did not Oh nice back Cohesive, yeah, very cool. Very nebulous. The whole thing is I'm gonna register like when I was making this because you're filming We're talking. I have no idea how I tie this together Yeah, I'm just actually kind of standing In memoriam to story. Oh, I guess that means he's dead. That's not what I meant Thank you very much. I made the punch of myself didn't God, I mean, it's sick. It was fucking It was horrible. It was a horrible show that everyone was like jerking off so hard And so I was like, maybe I just don't see it. Maybe it comes together and it didn't it fucking sucks Yeah, it was it was really bad. There's a couple shows in a row that you kind of like I was on a bad streak. I was in a bad place Bad place. I love it. Yeah actual George This is a Russia. This one's Russia White Russia. Oh It's okay. It would pass. It's okay. The back is not so bad that it ruins the front, correct I look like someone spilled a little drink on it or something And this interesting part is like sometimes if the bleach just barely hits a place It still doesn't it has the undercut like the color under it and it just looks like dirty Hmm, but it's not and that's what that's why I used to think that if I'd set the bleachers on opposite colors That it would stain through. Hmm when really it was just happened to be Because it was so odd. I'm like, why does this happen randomly? No Where do that term come from making headway Yeah, right This one's cool Yeah, this one's great. Yeah, this one's really cool and it kind of different way than any of my other ones have been. Yeah, but they all bleached into like three or four different colors really cool That's great. I wonder if they ever bleach it one color and they're like, yeah, and so then they died a darker color Yeah, I'd be curious to you. I know like maybe this was just leftover dye was my But they I mean it's high quality like I mean just the feeling of it. I don't do green and orange. You don't do green and orange. I like green and orange a lot more than like You don't do green and orange. I like green and orange a lot more than like You don't do green and orange. I like green and orange a lot more than like Trash. I love this. Feel how soft it is. Dummy. Dummy soft. You know it's dummy soft. It is dummy soft. Thank you. It'd be a good pillowcase. Or like, you know what's the thing you put in a Trash can where the garbage goes? I'm just kidding. I'm kidding. It covers my butt. Okay, now it looks pretty cool. Like that arm looks cool. To quote you. Right above your left hip looks great. Yeah. Stage left. Stage left. I feel like the shoulders are really like Like, yeah, they have very pointy shoulders. Yeah. This is one of the green Ones. This is black. It's funny. It has more of a green hue than the other green shirt did. Within that triangle? No. Oh, you mean other than the army green. Yeah. Yeah, the army greens are pretty much brown. You can see them right The bottom, the bottoms Of that messy, of that big star. Down, yep, those. Yeah. So those, those all turn into those. This one's great, but I don't It's not perfect for me because of the feel. It's a little, I kind of like some rougher. I feel like that would really soften up. Probably would. Honestly, so I liked it When it was flat. But this has really Surprised me. It's interesting this. It kind of looks like I like No, it's funny. It kind of looks like it's like going up that way though. I just want to see if like Does this look the same on me as it does on you? It's going to look way better on you. It really does look different on different people. Yeah. This one's great. Grip. Personal. Jersonal. That's my Jersonal file. I don't think I, I think Bang. Um, I think It looks pretty cool on you actually. Oh yeah, well it's crazy. Like, that's weird. Yeah. Not many of them do that. Yeah. So yeah, it doesn't mean to be like Like the shoulder's weird. I think it's meant for a really wide guy. Wide guy. Wide guy. Well that's you. You're a big guy. I'm a big man. This one, this one turned out great Just because of right here. This saved it. That's pretty cool. Yeah, put the vultures on. Put it on. She puts on. I just, I don't love the neck holes of them. My neck hole. My neck hole. I kinda like it. I like the feel of the sleeves. This is a nice shirt. It's a good shirt. I like the feel. Yeah. The real feel. The real feel. She's a balancing goddess. I'm trying to be wide. You are wide. I'm like a fucking line batter. You're not too wide though. That's this one. This one. Boom. Nice. And like boom. Just with that, we're pretty much done. I like when you put them away like a forklift. Me too, but these ones each gotta go to a very specific spot. This one's going up behind you. Oh. Beep beep. That's the rest of the show for like the next 20 minutes. Tiger and Kenzie pretending to be forklifts. Completely sober. Just forklifting. Forklifting. Just forking. Trying to make a living. Forklifting. This is gonna go in the cell pile. This guy. Is this the cell pile? Yeah, I saw it. If you know. If it all falls down. And it all falls down. She's looking a little wob. That's what it does. Wobbed? You have to beat the wob. Wob. Wob. Wob. It's the wob. Wob. Wob. That's a easy shirt, but I think I'll sell it. Bye. This is a easy shirt, but I think I'll sell it. Bye. This is the double layer Kenzie. I think I'll sell it. To the pile. Sergeant Pile. Is this the cell? Yeah, every single thing over there. Oh, really now? You can even put it on that really cool ass red shirt. Or hoodie. Getting a little tired here? Yeah, I'm sorry. Oh, this is the shirt that has the double. It's just a lumper. It's not a lover. It's a lumper. And then that you can park right back up there. I'm not sleepy, you're sleepy. I've always wanted to be a boss, you're sleepy. Looks like an eyeball. On the desk. I've never noticed it. You see how there's three holes? The majority of the time it's been covered up. I know how to do damage control. Wow, the back of this one looks great. That's who I talked to? He looks perfect. I do it with the back out, but it's okay. Again. Kenzie does it perfectly. Kenzie forgets the back and the front thing though. I'm so used to doing the front forward. I like hiding it. Because the back usually looks about the same. This is crazy looking. I think I do the front because I had graphic tees for a long time. And that's how I would distinguish. What shirt is this? Oh shit. Who is this, I say. I do have relationships with men. Is it my golden boy? No. Who is your golden boy? That's a good question. See, doesn't that look blue? Something could have been staining it. Who stained it? Not one of us. Who is the damager? The damager. Who? I'm folding here. You cut the clear right away. Look at that. God, you're good at what you do. That looks really nice. I don't know why that's so fucking funny. Yeah, so that one and this one are my favorites. And the one I'm wearing is okay. How is it? Okay. I'm going to take this tangy shirt off. Do the rest of the shawl. In the braless. Oh my god, I'm so sleepy. I'm so sleepy! So sleepy that I ate like two bites of that cotton candy. I'm like, okay. Donezo. Bye. But I'm really happy I documented these because I've done so many. I mean, god damn it. The amount of fucking footage that I didn't want to just be like, okay, that last one, yeah, I just skimped out on it. Because I'm going to be like, prove that you made them, man. Because you probably didn't. Where's the street cred in that? Where's the street cred? You probably just bought them. Boney. Okay, so we're living out my nightmare right now. Everyone's like, you didn't. You just, I bet you took it from someone else. From a smaller, if you loved it. Smaller, if someone was tiny. I stole it from a bitchy. Nice shirt. Thanks. It's a cool sweater, sweater, sweater, sweater, sweater. I like the green. Green boy. Alright, thanks everyone for tuning in. I don't know what I'm going to do with three different camera angles of all this. Please, god help me. Bye. Bye. Bye. Last word, bye. Can't keep doing this to me. I'm gonna freak. I'm gonna go bananas. Hidden. Didn't know the show was kept going. He freaked out. Not very well. He doesn't really do it that much. He doesn't have a lot of practice. Doesn't really know how to. He kind of just goes. I'm not happy. Fixed it. And then he goes. I'm not bleaching another god damn shirt until I'm happy. But I'm not happy until I bleach another shirt. That is the problem with life. Yup, yup. Alright, let's go watch some tv and pass out. Alright, cool. You'll stop the camera. Don't bang that thing. Don't clap that thing. Oh, wait. I'll clap it. I'll clap it, baby.

Welcome to today's episode, where we are diving into building and maintaining cohesive teams in a busy veterinary practice, especially one with multiple teams and shifts. In some practices, it's common for staff members to barely see each other, which can make it challenging to stay aligned with practice goals. How can we ensure everyone is on the same page, even when they work at different times? Our guest, Steph Ferkovich a CVT from a 24-hour clinic in Minnesota, joins us to share her experience. With a background in criminal justice and psychology, Steph has a unique approach to team dynamics. Her favorite part of the job is watching staff members thrive in their roles, which is why she's so passionate about fostering strong communication within her practice. Throughout this episode, Steph will discuss the challenges of managing a clinic where teams work different shifts. She explains how they overcame an “us vs. them” mentality and built a culture of open communication. From handling team conflicts to recognizing when training alone won't resolve every issue, Steph offers practical strategies for maintaining harmony in the workplace. We'll also hear about the evolving role of managers in veterinary practices. Steph shares how she's shifted from being seen as an authority figure to more of a coach for her team and how loosening control can sometimes be the key to success. If you're ready to learn how to build a more cohesive and communicative team, listen to this conversation with Steph Ferkovich. Show Notes: [2:51] - Working at a 24-hour clinic is unique with an unusual schedule. The different shifts overlap, but otherwise, the teams don't see much of each other. [5:07] - One thing that needed to change was the “Us Vs. Them” vocabulary. [7:27] - Team attitudes can be negative, but it's important for them to realize that there are reasons, sometimes personal ones, that a team member works a certain shift. [9:42] - Working with people means that sometimes there will be animosity. Steph explains how to bring two people together for conversations even with resistance. [12:37] - A mediator is highly recommended in conversations that address animosity and conflict. [14:49] - Fortunately, Steph's team is pretty open with communication after the culture had been developed that it was important. [18:18] - In some cases, training will not change or fix communication between some team members. [20:10] - As a manager, Steph has learned that if something isn't working, there are other ways to help teams communicate. [21:53] - How do teams see their manager? Steph explains how this has changed over time and how most of the time it is as a coach. [24:38] - Loosening up control can be a challenge for some managers. [26:55] - Change is okay. What was working three years ago might not work anymore. Thank you for listening. Remember you are not in this alone. Visit our website for more resources. This week, we welcome designers Ellie Cullman and Lee Cavanaugh from the eponymous design firm Cullman & Kravis, who discuss their latest book, 'Cullman and Kravis Interiors.' Although "Cullman & Kravis Interiors" is technically the fourth book from designer Ellie Cullman, it is the first book that showcases her own firm's approach to blending traditional and contemporary styles. Ellie and Lee emphasize their passion for reflecting client interests, location, and functionality in their designs, and they also share insights about the importance of cohesive coloring and the ‘alchemy of old and new' in creating vibrant living spaces. Watch this week's conversation as recorded on Ballard Designs YouTube. What You'll Hear On This Episode: 00:00 Introduction 00:33 Meet Our Guests: Ellie Cullman and Lee Cavanaugh 01:58 The Unique Cullman and Kravis Aesthetic 03:58 Designing for Function and Comfort 05:15 Interactive Design Process 13:43 Collaborative Design and Client Interaction 20:48 Adapting Designs for Future Needs 23:14 Creating Play Spaces for All Ages 23:58 Exploring Traditional Design 25:31 Balancing Old and New in Interiors 31:48 The Importance of Color Cohesion 35:35 Personal Stories and Design Tips 39:16 Decorating Dilemmas and Solutions 45:21 Conclusion + Where to Find More from Cullman & Kravis Decorating Dilemma: Cullman & Kravis suggest embracing the bold fuchsia color from her chairs by incorporating it elsewhere in the room to achieve cohesion. They recommended painting the walls in the fuchsia shade or using a textured wall covering to tie the space together. If the bold choice felt overwhelming, they suggested adding fuchsia accessories, such as vases or a large bowl, on the dining table. To address the issue with her dining chairs on the carpet, they recommended using plastic sliders or sabots on the chair feet for ease of movement. Overall, they encouraged Donna to continue her bold direction and reminded her that sometimes stepping out of her comfort zone can result in a well-designed room. WHY IT WORKS Hey friend! If you've ever wondered why some gallery walls are structured differently than others and what makes one 'work' even though it seems to not follow any of the rules, this episode is for you. In this episode I'm sharing the two different types of gallery walls and the 'rules' to follow to create each one. I share insight into how gallery walls that look chaotic may actually be following a lot of unseen rules. This training is an example of WHY IT WORKS a series that lives inside The Collective, my monthly home decorating membership. The doors to The Collective are open TODAY thru SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22nd! Hey friend! Does the idea of a home with an open concept sound nice until it comes time to decorating? Open concepts sound nice, but how do you create a home that looks curated, nuanced and cohesive when it's all essentially one big room? And how do you do that without just getting matching everything? In this podcast I'm sharing three ways you can unify your space intentionally without being matchy-matchy. 1. Focus on the foundation: The foundation of your home is the floor and walls. Walls include window treatments. Keeping base colors the same (i.e. in area rugs and curtains), choosing a color palette and using it throughout the open concept and using the same curtain rods, shades, etc. all help create cohesiveness. 2. Repeat MACRO and MICRO design elements: Large design elements like wood tones, metals, colors, textures are easy to repeat. When you master that, take it a step further by focusing on the micro design elements - the more subtle = the more nuanced. The more nuanced = the more elevated. 3. Look for the outliers: Try finding the things that no longer belong and remediate them by removing them or intentionally adding additional items to make the outlier fit in. I noticed when I have days I'm throwing all day that my lower back is just completely spent. Even just bending over the sink is really difficult to maintain balance at the end of a throwing day. I have very, very, very minor scoliosis which might also be contributing to this. I don't really notice this on days I'm throwing small pots, but only when I'm centering larger amounts. Do you have any tips, tricks, or even certain exercises to minimize physical issues like this? I know Becca has mentioned she has carpel tunnel. I do wrist stretches but am not sure how to position myself so I don't have that much back pain (other than configuring a standing wheel). I'm only in my mid twenties and want to continue doing this for a long time @Hannahsceramicstudio- I'm wanting to know your opinion on having a cohesive look throughout your work. I've been doing pottery for over 3 years now and still in love with all the techniques that are possible. Maybe there is more cohesiveness than I think but how important is that for a business do you think? This is my sister and my page as she also does pottery. Her style is much more whimsical and there's also not many of her works as she doesn't do this nearly as much as I do. Thanks for answering! How easy is it for a layperson to understand your systems? Jared Norman is a software consultant, speaker, and host of the Dead Code Podcast who specializes in building e-commerce applications in Ruby on Rails. This episode follows two recent talks at RailsConf and covers a theme that emerged from both of them: coupling and cohesion. Tuning in, you'll gain insights on how to create more cohesive components to allow for change and improve your understanding of value objects, systems, and more. You'll also hear about navigating the complexity of domain-driven design and learn how to gauge if your code is easy to understand through a simple rule of thumb. We discuss what it might look like to improve the cohesion of individual objects, identify your systems' seams to create simplicity, and the liminal space between inheritance and composition and the role of decorators in moving through it. Join us today to hear all this and more! Key Points From This Episode: Introducing Jared Norman recent speaker at RailsConf and Ruby on Rails specialist. Jared's interests outside of coding: cycling.
