Acomi and Turk182 strap on inhibitor collars, tattoo their faces, and wait for the Sentinels to come, as they watch 20th Century Fox's The New Mutants. Very loosely based on the Marvel comics series by Chris Claremont, Bob McLeod, and Bill Sienkiewicz. Using the Demon Bear storyline as the basis of the film, it forces the characters and story to move forward by imprisoning the powerful mutants in a mental institution, referred to as a training facility (that they can't leave). Under the guise of being trained to become members of the X-Men, the characters "bond" in the form of insulting and fighting each other, while learning how to control their powers in the process. All this, so they can fight the psychological Demon Bear, brought to the facility in the mind of the newest patient, Danielle Moonstar. With only a half of the characters resembling their comic book counterparts, and a story that only resembles the name, prepare to watch another Fox comic book atrocity. There are two gay bears inside of us all, one who's afraid and one who's proud. Which bear gets to grow big and strong? The one you feed, obviously. Oh, and there's also this other third bear. The Demon Bear. That one's gay too. If this is confusing, just wait until you hear about how all three of these bears factor in to the plot of The New Mutants (2020). Ryan and Maddy bring Todd back on the show to analyze the latest and final live-action 20th Century Fox take on the X-Men. It's got good parts and bad parts. It also has Mr. Sinister in it, kinda? We almost liked this movie, because it's the Generation X of 2020 -- destined to be a cult favorite for X-Men fans in 2044. On the eve of the VERY long-awaited NEW MUTANTS movie release, we finally take an in-depth look at the classic comic book story-arc that serves as it's inspiration, the "Demon Bear" story from issues 18-20 of "New Mutants" (1983). Writer Chris Claremont and artist Bill Sienkiewicz (making his debut on the book) gave readers an intense horror tale the likes of which hadn't been seen in an X-book, as the entire team must rally to protect their fallen comrade Dani Moonstar from a murderous demonic entity from her past. We read the story arc, discussing how it helped finally establish "New Mutants" as more than JUST another X-Men spin-off, how immediately revolutionary Sienkiewicz's artwork was...and what the heck is the deal with Tom Corsi and Sharon Friedlander, two of the strangest supporting characters in X-Men history. Plus, talk of the various highlights from DC's online Fandome event, plus news of a new Wolverine comic title. All this and more, so listen on. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

Days of Future Podcast: Examining the X-Men

After a brief hiatus, We're back to discuss all the X-MEN news that broke over the last few weeks. First, a look at the recent trailer for the FOX TV series, THE GIFTED...which despite its bland name, IS an X-Men show! Then, we look at the continued lack of news regarding the X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX movie, but address some potentially disheartening news about certain returning cast members. Trev then shares his quick thoughts on the new LOGAN blu-ray, including his opinion of the black-and-white LOGAN NOIR version of the film. Next, we take a look at the casting of the DEADPOOL 2 villain, and ponder the pros and cons of the rumored character he is playing. And then, we examine Josh Boone's recent comments regarding the NEW MUTANTS movie, which apparently will be the X-franchise's first pure horror film. Does this mean we will soon be seeing the Demon Bear? And what does this mean for the film? Plus we give our thoughts on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, as well as talk of JOSIE & THE PUSSYCATS, TWIN PEAKS, Chris Evans' handsomeness...and Trev pitches a new Portland-set X-Men comic book. All this, and somehow still more. We're back, baby. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast daysoffuturepodcast@gmail.com Twitter: @dofpodcast
