Vamos a verlos. 1. Alfa Romeo Giulia GT by Totem Automobili. 2. Aston Martin DB6 MKII Volante. 3. Bentley Continental S3 Flying Spur by LUNAZ. Citroën 2CV by 2CV Mehari Club Classics. 5. DeLorean DMC-12 electric. 6. Ferrari 308 GTE by Electric GT. 7. Fiat Giardiniera by ICON. 8. Ford Mustang Fastback by Charge Automotive. 9. Jaguar E-Type Zero EV. Jaguar XK120 by LUNAZ by LUNAZ. 11. Mazda MX-5 NB by ZERO EV. 12. Mercury Coupé by ICON. 12+1. Mini Electric by Swindon Powertrain. 14. Porsche 911-964 by ZERO EV. 15. Renault e-Plein Air. 16. Range Rover Classic by LUNAZ. 17. Rolls-Royce Phantom V by LUNAZ. 18. SEAT e600 by Little Electric Cars, 19. Volkswagen by eclassics. 20. Volkswagen e-Escarabajo. ¿Qué opináis de todo esto? ¿Genialidad o sacrilegio?

Imagine being able to convert any car into an EV! That’s right, convert your gas car into an electric vehicle - an electric restomod! You could convert a 1966 Mustang, a 1981 Delorean, or even my personal favorite, a 1961 Jaguar E-type! Get off fossil fuels while increasing your performance and reliability!  In this episode I got to talk with Pete Williamsen of Electric GT. Electric GT is making electric conversions even easier than a traditional motor swap... Pull the stock engine, cooling, fuel tank, exhaust, and bolt in an electric motor to the factory drivetrain.  Join Pete and I in this episode as we discuss how the conversion process works, how long it takes, how you can keep your manual transmission, if you can DIY a conversion, where the batteries and charging port go, along with expected power and range!   Check out Electric GT for more info at https://electricgt.com   *This episode is not sponsored by Electric GT. Sunday 27th May 2018. NISSAN DEBUTS OPEN-AIR VERSION OF THE NEW NISSAN LEAF Nissan showed the Nissan LEAF Open Car, an open-air version of the new Nissan LEAF, in Tokyo yesterday. Call it a LEAF roadster if you will. From the Nissan Press Office: "The 100% electric car was displayed at a forum to celebrate the milestone of 100,000 sales of the Nissan LEAF in Japan since the model was first introduced in 2010."   BMW WILL BOOST CAPACITY AT I3 FACTORY IN GERMANY Last year my brother bought a new BMW i3, the range extender version, and had to wait quite a long time for it. And by the sound of it, that experience isn’t uncommon, because BMW are investing in making more of them to meet demand. "BMW will invest over 300 million euros to increase production at its plant in Leipzig, Germany, the automaker’s fifth-largest, laying the foundation for production of future models" say Autonews. "The i3 full-electric city car is built there using renewable wind energy in its own hall, separated from the core assembly work for conventionally powered vehicles. The plant's other model is the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car. BMW did not say whether it will add further models at the factory." “With the measures we are introducing now, we should make the plant even more flexible, and above all more efficient, to keep it competitive in the future,” the company’s head of production, Oliver Zipse, said. Autonews also say: "Changes to assembly include a new 40-tonne panorama roof fitting system that was already added in March to increase speed and flexibility. Preparations are also ongoing to integrate new collaborative human-robot systems, often referred to as “cobots,” into the labor-intensive assembly line."   FORD MOVES EV TEAMS TO HISTORIC CORKTOWN More than 200 Ford employees started working in its new Corktown office space on Thursday. They're all part of Ford's self-driving and electric vehicles team. The company released video of what the 45,000 square foot space looks like. It's a refurbished factory that sits right along Michigan Avenue near Rosa Parks Blvd.   CHINA’S TOP ELECTRIC CAR STARTUP IS USING APPLE’S PLAYBOOK IN CHINA TO TAKE ON TESLA "Chinese electric car startup NIO thinks it can take on Tesla and the auto industry by using similar strategies that Apple used to dominate the market share for smartphones" says Business Insider. "While many consumers think of Apple's hardware and technology as its key differentiating factor, NIO founder William Li said that Apple's dominance comes down to its high-end user experience, its ecosystem, and its account management system."   THE BEST ELECTRIC CONVERSIONS I love it when mainstream media discover EV's and it's like a light bulb goes on. And so that national newspaper The Sun here in the UK has done exactly that. The Sun, let's be generous, its not a thinking person’s paper. Up until recently they used to have a naked woman on Page 3 just, because. So if you don't know the Sun, that's an idea about it. But having been caught up in wedding fever for Harry and Meghan, they loved the Jaguar e-type Concept Zero electric car they drove away in, and have compiled their favourite other electric conversions. 1998 MINI EV - Revealed by the British marquee earlier this year, the 20-year-old MINI runs on a powerful 10kWh battery. 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS - The world's first electric Ferrari, this classic conversion went up for sale earlier this year for an undisclosed reserve. A fleet of bespoke Model S saloons have been kitted out with workshop tools so that customer repairs can be carried out on site." says The Week: "The fleet of ten repurposed Model S electric cars look almost identical to the standard models, although Autocar says the rear seats have been removed and instead replaced with a “suite of tools on a rack of sliding trays. At the moment Tesla has only a pair of bespoke Model S’s for the mobile repair service, says Alphr, but that number is expected to grow to ten “over the coming months”. "What's more, the company will carry out over-the-air software diagnostics that can identify 90% of issues before a technician heads out to the affected vehicle, says Auto Express. And if there’s no one to greet the technician when they arrive, the car’s owner can remotely unlock the vehicle to allow access."   I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested. Wednesday 25th April 2018. TESLA RACING SERIES ELECTRIC GT ANNOUCNE CALENDAR There are two exciting new EV racing series on the horizon, such as the Jaguar I-PACE series which will support Formula E. And also Electric GT which will be racing Tesla Model S P100DL’s. And Electric GT have just announced the calendar for their inaugural series after being officially approved by the motorsport governing body the FIA. There will be 10 races, starting in Spain on November 3rd, which follows a short test in October. Each event will be a mini festival of electric engineering, and the racing will involve a practice, a qualifying, a race and a dusk race. And that’s one of the great things about electric racing, you can do it at times when you wouldn’t normally be allowed with other series due to the noise pollution. They will race in France, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Silverstone UK and Portugal. It’s great they’ll be at circuits like Jerez, and Paul Ricard, the Nurburgring and Silverstone, and Formula 1 circuits with a rich heritage which will help give the series some gravitas with petrol heads, something I think Formula E will fix soon, because the city races are both great and also lack some heritage.   LAMBORGHINI AND PORSCHE JOIN THE EV PARTY Talking F1, former Scuderia Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicalli who now heads up Lamborghini says their next hypercar will be electrified. We are talking the Aventador and the Huracan. Full EVs are also on cards but not quite yet: “I don’t think that the technology for a full electric Lamborghini will be ready until 2026,” he said. “Hybrids are a step towards that.” Lamborghini’s technical director, Maurizio Reggiani, told Top Gear, “The big questions are packaging and weight. Yes, this will be a silent Lamborghini, but push the accelerator and the engine will come. Silence will only last for some seconds, then comes the sound.”   Next up another sports car, and the legendary Porsche 911, where electric power will be used for the very first time. Again it will be a hybrid perhaps with a new engine which might upset the Porsche purists. August Achleitner, director of the 911's development team, said: “Some fans rushed the barricades; it was all gloom and doom for many. And then the same thing happened as always: nothing. The new models have always received even more rave reviews than their predecessors. That encourages us to think about fundamental innovations in the future as well."   1,000 CLEAN AND CHEAP ELECTRIC BUSES FOR PARIS Cities like Schenzen already have all their public buses running on batteries, that’s over 16,000 buses like the BYD ones you might have seen. Their next plan is for all 17,000 cabs to be electric too, so Western cities need to catch up quickly. A sidebar here, whilst China is producing hundreds of thousands of electric cars and buses, our own media only want to report on Elon’s latest tweet. One day everyone will turn round and China will be making your next car, like they make everything else! Back to buses, and Paris will see 1,000 new full BEV buses, which is part of a larger plan to electrify all buses, by 2025. RATP has 4,500 buses to replace. Catherine Guillouard, president and CEO of RATP said: “The massive order to equip our fleet with electric buses demonstrates our ambition to become a vital player in the energy transition of the public transport sector. Our aim to ensure a 100% clean fleet by 2025 in the Paris region is what can only be described as a technological challenge that requires us to adapt our 25 bus depots within a very tight time frame. The entire company has been mobilized to succeed with this challenge”. Which is true, it’s a big job. One that some Chinese cities have already done – the buses, the depots, the grid upgrades, the on-street chargers to top up mid route? Yep, all done. Tomorrow on the show, I’ll take a deeper dive into the general state of electrified mass transport.   MITSUBISHI PHEV OWNERS NEEDED FOR RESEARCH Calling all Mitsubishi Outlander owners in the UK: “We are currently looking for owners/drivers of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (purchased from new) for a paid market research event being held at a market research studio in Central London between the dates of Tuesday 08th and Thursday 10th May 2018. The project is being conducted on behalf of a major car manufacturer and we are simply interested in gaining feedback from owners regarding their experiences with electric vehicles and their ideas on the UK electric vehicle market. For anyone who takes part in a 1.5 hour discussion there is a cash incentive of £80.” I’ll put a link in the podcast notes if you’re interested. http://www.myoutlanderphev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=41988   PLUG IN YOUR FORD F-150 The legendary Ford F-150 truck isn’t something you can imagine is an ideal candidate for being an EV, but they’re seen a way to reduce carbon emissions for customers. The trucks are built by Ford and electrified by XL, in addition to plug-in charging capabilities, the trucks' technology also uses regenerative braking during deceleration to charge the battery pack, and uses electric assist during acceleration to increase fuel economy. Eric Foellmer, XL's Director of Marketing said: “Because the XL plug-in hybrid electric system works seamlessly with the Ford drivetrain, it works and drives just like a factory F-150 would – but with a 50% MPG improvement and substantial reductions in CO2emissions".    60 NEW CHARGE POINTS FOR LIVERPOOL UK Liverpool in the UK is probably best known around the world for the Beatles, or these days, having a huge international following for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool Football Club. Or Soccer, if you like. But now it’s becoming famous for EVs as 60 more charging points are added as sites like hospitals, train stations, car parks, sports venues and even Jaguar Land Rover. John Robinson, managing director at Symphony EV-ZE said: “We are also currently working with Arriva to install infrastructure for the super-fast rapid charging points for their electric bus project for the Liverpool City Region.”   MERCEDES-MAYBACH EV REVEALED AT AUTO CHINA 2018 We’ve heard some whispers, and seen some teasers, now Mercedes-Maybach have shown off their luxury electric crossover – The Vision – at Auto China 2018. It’s an EV with four motors and all-wheel drive, and of course it’s a Maybach, so it’s the height of luxury. It’s a concept vehicle at this stage, which always means it’s technically capable of running on magical fairy dust, however Maybach assure us the specs are real. Those specs being 550kW or 750hp of power, with an 80kWh battery. They’ll build it with DC fast charging at 350kW for the elusive 80% charge in less than 20mins, or for slower speeds, induction charging also included. Because sometimes you’re just too posh to touch a cable!   RANGE ANXIETY HAD BEEN SOLVED In a recent media session, Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi Chairman Carlos Ghosn said: "We have seen that consumers do not talk anymore about range or autonomy as long as you guarantee more than 300km. You could not have guessed this [result] through studies. When you look what are the electric Chinese cars that are selling, they are very, very affordable cars. The price point of the Leaf today is not adequate for the Chinese market.” His Renault Zoe ZE40 is marketed at 300km and the upcoming 60kWh LEAF with LGChem cells, and some thermal management to keep them at happy temperatures, will probably get over 350km on the new WLTP test cycle. That’s around 225 miles.   I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested. Record Breaking Batteries, e-tron Price and Tesla OTA Update | 16 Mar 2018

Friday 16th March 2018.   RECORD BREAKING BATTERIES Firstly apologies for missing this is as part of the Volkswagen Press Conference this week. It’s a small detail but I think it’s perhaps the most significant of all the announcements. And that’s quite a statement given the headline number was 20 billion Euros in contracts – not promises or press releases for commitments to clean up – signed contracts for battery supply in China and Europe, with an announcement for North America to come. I think the most startling figure wasn’t 20 billion, but 100. Just 100 euros was the key number and I missed it. But it was in the Q&A section, so that’s my defence! The CEO confirmed it has written battery contracts for under 100 Euro per kWh. Let’s add some caveats to that. WE don’t know any more about the deal, or whether there were a range of contracts, which is almost certain, and that was the lowest price or even the average price across all of them. We do know, unlike with Tesla’s Gigafactory and Panasonic, VW don’t want to be in the business of making batteries, so that 100 euros per kWh could be the price per battery delivered, which would be very impressive if true, considering hundreds of millions required for capital investment had they followed Tesla in making the batteries. That works out to $120 - $125, which is competitive against GM saying they were in the region of $145. Given VW need most of their batteries from 2022 onwards, given the rapid price fall of batteries, if these contracts are 100 euros four years away that is more reasonable. We just don’t know yet. Elon Musk has talked about $100 being an inflection point when electric cars, whose battery is by far the most expensive part, become the same as combustion engine cars. Given VW suppliers will be making a profit on those prices, I think that’s good news for Tesla. Although they do have the sunk costs of infrastructure and staff at Gigafactory 1, 2, 3 and onwards, the sheer scale of half a million Model 3’s per year mean that magical $100 shouldn’t be too far off. It seems like not so long ago we were talking about the price dropping $1000 per kWh. http://seekingalpha.com/article/4156050-lower-cost-tesla-volkswagens-new-battery-cell-costs-100-euro-per-kwh   AUDI E-TRON PRICE AND GT VERSION Staying with VW and their Audi brand will be out of the blocks with the e-tron soon. The prototypes ferrying car journalists around at the Geneva Motor Show last week were looking quite advanced. And now we know two things, when you can have one and how much they’ll cost. The e-tron will be available by the end of the year, and the price will start at 80,000 euros. It’s already on sale in some parts of Europe if you want to place a deposit. Some extra detail I’m not surprised about is a GT, or Gran Turismo, version coming soon. Just as the Jaguar I-PACE sees value in the electric racing series supporting Formula E, which will have a halo effect on the cars and the brand, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jaguar Land Rovers performance teams allowed to add some bells and whistles it for a road going version. Remember as well the Tesla-based Electric GT championship now has FIA approval and looks to be on track to race late this year or next year. https://www.electrive.com/2018/03/15/audi-e-tron-price-gt-version-announced/   CHAdeMO UPDATE A quick check of the CHAdeMO website sees the total number of installed chargers heading towards 18,000 which up 30% year on year. Which countries and manufacturers will adopt and promote which technology is one of the most interesting parts of the future EV economy. As of the end of last year, 775,000 CHAdeMO compatible cars are on the roads, out of which 330,000 found a home in Europe, which saw a 50% increase in CHAdeMO chargers. That’s impressive as Europe is heading towards nearly all rapid chargers being CCS. CHAdeMO are keen to highlight their bidirectional capability as Vehicle 2 Grid becomes of interest to both buyers and utilities, who see a large stock of EVs as the perfect way to smooth out the peaks of the grid when electricity generation gets the most expensive. CHAdeMO also have confirmed specs for 200kW speeds and soon 400kW specs will be announced. That should future-proof even the most aggressive of fast chargers. Once again, it’s always worth saying, nearly all charging is carried out at home or work. https://electriccarsreport.com/2018/03/chademo-2017-another-good-year-of-great-growth/   HYUNDAI WANTS MORE COLD WEATHER MILES Hyundai have been talking to Electrek about the cold weather performance of the Kona. It comes with a heat pump which is an expensive option on many EV. Electrek says the smart air intake recycles heated air by controlling the amount of air entering and exiting the vehicle. By better controlling the air flow inside the vehicle, the HVAC system is able to heat the cabin more efficiently, thereby minimizing the amount of heating used during winter driving. There’s a driver-only button you can push which shuts off any heating to the passenger side of the vehicle, again savings energy when it’s very cold. Maybe those options above aren’t so critical with the 64kWh battery but with the smaller, more affordable 39.2 kWh pack it will add valuable miles to the range. https://electrek.co/2018/03/14/hyundai-kona-electric-cold-weather-performance/   PANASONIC ADD ANOTHER LOCATION Panasonic has confirmed they have started production of new prismatic batteries in China. Panasonic will manufacture the high-capacity and high-safety prismatic-type batteries at this factory and ship them to the North American and Chinese markets. This gives them facilities to serve the USA, Japan and China. https://electriccarsreport.com/2018/03/panasonic-starts-ev-battery-production-in-china   TESLA UPDATE Finally Tesla has started an Over The Air update of the latest new software to and owners testing it are reporting improvements to the Autopilot system. We knew it was coming, Elon said it was coming, and we never doubted it! Electrek say: “Autopilot 2.0/2.5 drivers who reached out to Electrek are seeing a significant improvement in lane detection, a reduction of “ping-ponging” within a lane, and a generally better experience when Autosteer is activated. Some are also reporting a more efficient Traffic-Aware Cruise Control to slow down and stop when locked into a lead vehicle.” Where do you stand on the Autopilot 1 vs Autopilot 2 debate? In another report the general responsiveness and speed of the touchscreen has also been noticeably improved. https://electrek.co/2018/03/15/tesla-autopilot-update-autosteer/   Thank you for listening today, I hope you've enjoyed it. Friday 2nd February 2018. EVgo provided 40 million miles of gas-free miles in 2017 from their 1,000 DC fast chargers. The average fast charge session lasted 25 minutes. In 2017 France led the way with 12,000 new EV charging points, ahead of Germany and UK. Nearly half of all buses on the roads will be electrified by 2025 with China leading the way. A brand new factory opened today in Oxfordshire, UK, to build 100,000 EV motors annually year including Jaguar and Williams as customers. The famous London black cabs are heading further afield as an international deal sees them arriving in Norway, albeit with a new livery and Scandinavian interior. CATL in China is valued at $20Bn and new investment sees them building a new plant to build cells, second in size to Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada. Numbers are starting to come in for January 2018 Plug In sales and the year hasn’t started as well as last year ended. However that was without full sales for the new Nissan LEAF and as Tesla Model 3 production increases. MOIXA is a UK company which provides PV plus storage to 1,000 customers, and now added Japanese investment will see new markets open up for their AI-driven system which sells excess energy back to the grid. SolarEdge has unveiled an integrated inverter charger for your electric car. Combining your PV and grid connection provides 9.6kW Level 2 charging for your electric car. And finally the Electric GT series has been given the green light by the FIA, which will see the all-electric racing series start later this year, with 20 drivers taking on European circuits in race ready Tesla Model S P100Ds.     Thank you for listening today, I hope you've enjoyed it.
