Erik Johansson, photographer and visual artist from Sweden, has been creating surreal photographs for over 16 years. Focusing on personal projects and exhibitions, Erik's approach to photography is unique in that he seeks to capture ideas rather than moments. Using his camera and imagination, he strives to create a single, realistic image that tells a story, even if it contains elements that seem impossible.

Texter1 Samuelsboken 1:21-28Lukasevangeliet 2:22-40MusikIsn't she lovely (S Wonder) / Härlig är Jorden (Psalm 297) / Lov, ära och pris (Psalm 10)Love's in need of love today (S Wonder)Högt i stjärnehimlen (Psalm 25)You are the sunshine of my life (S Wonder)Another star (S Wonder)As (S Wonder)Badar i ljus (Psalmer i 2000-talet 822)Have a talk with God (S Wonder, C Hardaway)Village ghetto land (S Wonder, G Byrd)Knocks me off my feet (S Wonder)Heaven help us all (R Miller)MedverkandeAndré Jakobsson - predikan och pianoJohanna Sinclair - mötesledareRichard Löfvenberg – textläsning och bönKören Canorus – sångMalin Ärlebrandt – körledning och solosångSara Lindgren, Erik Johansson, Agnes Assmundsson – solosångPetri Kivimäki – saxofonJakob Forslund – basAmos Jakobsson - trummorProducent Helena Andersson HolmqvistMoskit medialiv@sverigesradio.seTekniker: Björn Nitzler och Magnus KjellssonSveriges radio Västerbotten

In this episode, I have the pleasure of welcoming my friend and colleage Carol LeBlanc from Love Your Numbers Now as my guest, and together, we dive into the thought-provoking artwork Grow With Progress by Erik Johansson. This surreal photograph depicting a woman ascending a staircase inspired a chapter in my upcoming book and it offers a powerful metaphor for personal growth, self-discovery, and the pursuit of wholeness. As Carol and I unpack the layers of meaning within the artwork, we explore essential themes like self-trust, shedding societal expectations, and embracing expansion. We draw striking parallels between the artwork's message and real-life experiences, from navigating business endeavors to the complexities of parenting. We highlight the liberating power of embodying our truth and speaking up, even when it requires courageous conversations. It's a conversation that beautifully aligns with the overarching theme of my book, Art Is About Being Whole: A Memoir coming soon on October 31! For pictures of the artwork and the links we discussed in the show, head over to the show notes at this link. P.S. Count how many times one of us brought up the Barbie movie! That was unexpected!

Continuing on our theme of setting up a market garden, we find out what it takes from Erik Johnnason, who along with his wife Katrina took a blind leap of faith and set one up as the pandemic took hold and their business and income plans were suddenly put on the line. The couple run Cuskinny Court, a historic property, hosting lots of outdoor group-based activities for kids and adult teams, as well as immersive family theatrical experiences at Christmas and Halloween. The property has an old walled garden, which up until this point had been used for archery and kids' games. But everything changed, as they took up a shovel and began sketching plans, building raised beds and crop planning. We hear from Erik on how these plans emerged, how he went from a very limited personal knowledge on the subject to a successful garden growing over a dozen crops. He explains how setting up a NeighbourFood market introduced him to other growers and the mentoring and encouragement he received from them and finally how he sells his produce to local buyers and cafes. If you've been inspired by Erik's story, and want to learn more about setting up a market garden, then we highly recommend you tune into our previous episode with Richard Mee, head gardener at GIY - Grow It Yourself. This episode covers lots more technical and useful information in creating the foundation for a successful market garden. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode, we get a deep dive into the efficiencies of Goodbye Kansas' pipeline, and how they grew their team from 4 to 12 TDs. Dan and Erik discuss how they started using V-Ray for Houdini, Solaris, and Hydra. They explain how USD is not just a new file format, but a complete change in the way people think about pipelines. We get into a lot of technical details about the advantages of USD, including how it can carry a lot of different data including lighting and shading. We also discuss how today, pipelines are more interested in using and supporting open-source initiatives compared to how they used to have to write their own proprietary solutions. It is a very technical discussion, but also a great way to kick off 2022 as we consider the future of the VFX pipeline.

Raised in the countryside of Sweden, Erik's spark for whimsical sceneries was brought by the beauty and simplicity of his life as a child. “Modifying realities has always been natural to me,” he says. Erik points out how he used to spend his time drawing rather than talking, and his work was inspired by the rural landscape he was born in. He spoke of his creative process and stressed how creativity isn't something you can force yourself to have. Rather drawing is an activity that gradually improves the more you do it. Even though he only publishes a few of his personal work in a year, Erik takes pride in his pieces and the arduous artistry that goes into his photographs.
"Gitarren brister i gråt.
The B&H Photography Podcast wraps up 2019 expanding our minds, with the help of Swedish photographer Erik Johansson. Enabling his playful and slightly sinister imagination with a wealth of design and photographic talent, Johannsson makes images that toy with the veracity of a photo while using relatively basic photographic processes to create them. It is certainly worth viewing Johansson’s website or Instagram feed before (or while) listening to this episode to familiarize yourselves with the images we discuss and to gain a sense of his mastery of scale and narrative. Combining landscape photography, staged scenes with actors, oversized props, and the best of digital collage, Johansson creates images that seem to emanate directly from his dreamy imagination, but are undoubtedly the product of much real-world work, and he kindly takes the time to explain his process and workflow to us. A woman emerges from a shopping mall escalator to find herself in a dark forest, a man pulls a lonely country road across a field like a bed sheet, a house is tossed as verdant farmland turns into a violent tidal wave. These scenes, along with many others (and some with a decidedly MC Escher feel), have us wondering, “how does he do it?” Join us for our conversation with Johansson to find out the tools he uses (starting with his Hasselblad camera system and Profoto lights) and the amount of time and production it takes to create each of these surrealistic vignettes. As we celebrate our 200th episode, chime in on our Facebook group with your all-time favorite episode or let us know a subject you’d like us to cover in 2020. Thanks! And have a great New Year.
