This is a crossover episode between The Amelia Project and Greater Boston, recorded live at The London Podcast Festival! What happens when these two fiction podcasts meet? Greater Boston acting legend Mark Whalberg hates fellow Greater Boston acting legend Matt Damon. One of the last things Mark Whalberg did before Matt Damon died was fistfight Matt Damon on a doomed, speeding train. But then Matt Damon sacrificed his life to save the passengers on that train. And so now Matt Damon is no more, but the memory of Matt Damon lives on. Now Matt Damon is not remembered as much more than merely an actor; he is Matt Damon, Transit Hero. And Mark Whalberg? He's known as just a survivor floundering in Matt Damon's shadow, which grows taller even in death. But Mark Whalberg has a plan. Mark Whalberg can die just like Matt Damon. Mark Whalberg is going to visit The Amelia Project to fake his own death and live on as someone who will receive the respect, accolades, and attention he righteously deserves. Dying and being reborn with the Amelia process will be Mark Whalberg's greatest role yet. Featuring Alan Burgon, Hemi Yeroham, Jeff Van Dreason, Alexander Danner, Felix Trench and Zach Valenti. Issue 22: October 2023 In this section we bring you two fantastic original pieces. The first piece comes from the team at Quid Pro Euro, by Felix Trench and Zack Fortais-Gomm. Quid Pro Euro is a fiction comedy podcast about Europe, and the series explores how people in the 90's predicted the EU would look like in the 21st century - and how wrong they were. The segment we feature is from the series' first episode on ‘Administration.' The second piece comes from What's The Mate?, the longest running Bear Radio original podcast, launched in 2018. What's the Mate shares the entirely wacky things that take place in Berlin and brings on some of the funniest people in the city to turn them into something even wackier. Cut to nearly 5 years later, and What's The Mate has released 50 episodes and shared over 150 weird, quirky and interesting stories out of Berlin. This excerpt is from episode 43: ‘The Episode With a Killer Hat and Cats with Opinions,' where host Julia shares a surprising fact about gas lamps in Berlin. Our theme music is from Lucas Carey, with audio from Epidemic Sound. Cover art by Sian Amber Fletcher. This episode is brought to you by Bear Radio. If you're a producer based in Europe and have an idea for an URSA story, we'd love to hear from you! You'll also hear climate updates, including a story about six young people from Portugal bringing 32 countries to trial at a hearing before the European Court of Human Rights, the effects of pesticide bannings on the price of sugar, some extra sugar facts you didn't ask for, and solar panels being installed in one of the darkest places in the world. In the second section, you'll hear two fantastic original pieces. The first piece comes from the team at Quid Pro Euro, by Felix Trench and Zack Fortais-Gomm. “The starting point is, and the research questions are all framed by: 'We know it's terrible to be fat, but how terrible is it?' Not: 'What would it take to give effective healthcare to fat people?'” says Aubrey Gordon, writer of the new book You Just need to Lose Weight and 19 Other Myths About Fat People, star of the documentary Your Fat Friend, and podcaster of Maintenance Phase. And it's not just healthcare where the alignment of 'fat' with 'unhealthy' - and 'thinner' with 'healthier' - becomes problematic and often very dangerous. "I really don't think people contend with the ways in which they are sending a message to everyone around them that there is a weight limit for people that they will love." Content note: this episode contains discussions of body size, body image, weight, anti-fatness, illness including cancer, diet culture, weight loss - intentional and un - and eating disorders. And there are some category A swears. This is the second of two episodes about the word ‘fat'. In Fatlusionist part 1, Aubrey and I discuss euphemisms for fat, why people avoid saying ‘fat', what else people mean when they say ‘fat' and how it would be quite good if people said ‘fat' as just a descriptive term for ‘fat'. It should just be an accurate descriptor of my body, but the word 'fat' has shaped so much more of my life, and our society. "There is this whole set of baggage that we are all culturally bringing to this word all the time," says Aubrey Gordon, writer of the new book You Just need to Lose Weight and 19 Other Myths About Fat People, star of the documentary Your Fat Friend, and podcaster of Maintenance Phase. In the next episode, Aubrey and I will discuss how the word 'fat' is often aligned with 'unhealthy', despite ample research demonstrating otherwise. * We're now on Instagram! @worstfoot * It's the big birthday, the day of days, let the jubilation commence! Worst Foot Forward's 250th Episode arrives in all its rag-glads, dressed down to the ones and ready to party like it's 1499. Ben and Barry share all sorts of facts and stories about birthdays, celebrations, presents, ageing and cake with a little help from a whole host of past guests. Joining us with their tales of terrible celebrations and baking disasters are Tiernan Douieb, Tatty Hennessy, Kit Chapman, Sacha Coward, Alasdair Beckett-King, Sadie Clark, Felix Trench, Bec Hill and Joel Morris. We also have a couple bits of news which we chat about and explain in more detail in the opening 10 minutes. The headlines are that the podcast is hereafter going to be released every two weeks rather than weekly to accommodate our increasingly busy schedules. That schedule now includes writing the Worst Foot Forward book with the aid of our new writing agent, Emily Sweet - how exciting! We also welcome Nell Thomas on board as our social media manager / official archivist to help us reach more listeners and keep you all up-to-date on what's happening at Worst Foot Towers. And for Patreon donors, there will be new treats such as the chance to pose questions to us and our guests in advance of upcoming recordings. So, we may be older, not much wiser, ever changing but still the same. Today is a big day on supersized No Bad Ideas. We have not one, not two, but THREE special guests joining us in the Bad Ideas Thunderdome. Beth Eyre, Felix Trench, and Tom Crowley, three of the amazing stars of Wooden Overcoats, join to lend their brilliance to a pair of truly odd and awful ideas. First, Gabriel brings us the tale of a woman who tried to buy a baby, and somehow we blow it up and shrink it down into a gentle indie stop-motion comedy full of heists and very organized babies. Then Sarah tells us about a man who stole a lot of manuscripts but didn't do anything with them, and we transform it into a layered revenge plot that begins with identity fraud and ends with the worst writers' retreat of all time. Finally, we ask Beth, Felix, and Tom about their work on Wooden Overcoats. They share some of their thoughts on this fourth and last season of the show, Piffling being a place that time forgot, their routes into the characters, the recording process and the show's place in the tradition of British radio comedy, and the challenges (and fun) of performing the show live. Plus: Build-A-Bear Texas, semi-collapsed societies, Steven King's sawed-off shotgun, World War B, and a pre-emptive apology to Guernsey. Today's Bad Ideas™: Idea #1 Idea #2 To check out Wooden Overcoats, find them in your podcatcher, check out their website, Instagram, and Twitter, and check out the live-streamed performances of Season 4 at Kings Place's K Player. Original broadcast date May 25, 2017. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2017/05/binary-system-podcast-83-zombies-run-with-special-guest-hannah/ If you've ever said "the only way I'd go running is if something was chasing me" then you already know one of the reasons we're fans of the Zombies, Run app. This week the twins' sister Hannah Wallace guest stars on the podcast to talk about all the other reasons we love this post-apocalyptic game/story/activity tracker, where zombies randomly show up to make you run faster while our favorite British voice actors cheer us on. We also fall down the rabbit hole of podcasts from across the pond, and how Hannah may or may not be stalking actors who perform Shakespeare with soup.
