Balaclava is a collective of alternative artists emerging from the streets of Tunis and committed to promoting local talent, composed of producers Hmenou and 5amaseen. Dedicated to influencing the youth through their bold and provocative art under their brand, Balaclava aims to embody the rebellious spirit and ambitious drive of their generation. Hmenou, a dedicated producer bridging Tunisian heritage and Parisian culture, has found his niche in drum and bass, infusing his music with local cultural references. Similarly, 5amaseen draws inspiration from bass and club music, crafting his distinct sound with pounding kicks, percussive patterns, and distorted breaks, influenced by the sonic landscape of his homeland, from Mahraganat to Upper Egyptian folkloric music. In this Select, Balaclava guides its listeners through an experimental mix of sounds, composed of fractured and disjointed breakbeats. High-energy and fast-paced, Balaclava's mix invites its audience into an electric universe of drum and bass, reimagining its meaning by weaving in the various musical influences that shaped them. Among some notable tracks featured in the mix are Hmenou's "Ahla & Sahla" and "Howa," 5amaseen's "Tashweesh" (Unreleased), and Kouslin's "Five Four.
I am thrilled to share with you the latest episode of the Jaded Mechanic podcast. In this thought-provoking episode, we dive deep into the toils and triumphs of a career in automotive repair. As always, we have amazing guests who bring their unique perspectives and expertise to the table. Here are three key takeaways from this episode that I believe will resonate with all of you:1: The Power of Perspective: One of our guests beautifully highlighted how there is so much more that unites us than what sets us apart. We often label people based on their work history, but this guest challenged us to see beyond the resume and embrace the common ground we share. Let's break free from preconceived notions and approach each individual with an open mind.2:Life Beyond the Shop: While our careers in automotive repair are undoubtedly important, it's crucial to remember that our lives extend beyond the shop. Our families, children, and significant others play a significant role in shaping who we are. This episode reminds us to find a balance between work and personal life, cherishing the moments that truly matter.3:The Value of Continuous Learning: The highlight of the day for one of our guests wasn't the work at the shop but the training they received that evening. This emphasizes the importance of investing in our professional growth and seizing every opportunity to learn and network. Let's strive to be lifelong learners and embrace the gold nuggets of knowledge that come our way.I want to express my gratitude to our incredible guests and partners with the Changing The Industry Podcast for making this episode possible. If you haven't already, be sure to subscribe to the Jaded Mechanic podcast and set it to automatically download every Tuesday morning. Hoops and Cards: Sports Cards for Basketball Collectors and Investors
NBA followers and fans won't be surprised if the Utah Jazz have (another) very good season. But card collectors and investors somehow still sleep on Utah's super-human baller, Lauri Markkanen. HoopsandCards continues this week's countdown with #3 on our offseason watch list, and here's a hint - He's Finnish. Oh, and he also might be a darkhorse MVP candidate. Those 2017 rookies to watch should include the low-pop, high-potential, return-All-Star play of the seven footer from Utah. **BEST OF 2022** It's the greatest productivity debate of our time: how do we achieve work-life balance? Or maybe the real debate should be: is work-life balance even possible? Eric Barker, the author of Barking Up the Wrong Tree and now Plays Well With Others, doesn't think work-life balance is truly achievable. At least, not if you want the best possible results in a given field. The problem, he says, is that most of live an unbalanced life by accident. Because of the internet and the rapidly increasing pace of everything from the news cycle to the way we socialise, we're all doing too much of something, and not enough of something else. It's overwhelming, and we're constantly playing catchup. Eric's solution is to abandon balance, but to do it on purpose. Decide what you want to be really, really good at it, and accept that you won't be world-class in your other pursuits. Eric also shares why he sets a five-hour timer at the start of every work day, how he deals with contradictions in his own writing, and how he developed his sense of humour. Dee is a beast in the fashion industry. He’s co-founded multiple companies such as Five Four, Menlo Club, Grand AC and Young & Reckless. He also runs a venture capital firm called Queen’s Bridge Partners. You can catch him regularly sharing his thoughts on his vlog but also on the Group Chat and Dee Tour podcast. ps - this episode was originally recorded in 2019. My own personal journey led to me pause the release of anymore episodes as I felt the calling to dive deeper into self reflection.

The hosts return to examining cases with a little-known campaign finance decision from 2011: Arizona Free Enterprise Club PAC v. Bennett. They discuss the Supreme Court’s ruling, which declared unconstitutional a matching funds program for political candidates who opt out of private fundraising, effectively killing public campaign financing. The hosts also talk about the Trump campaign’s ongoing efforts -- in the courts and otherwise -- to contest the results of the 2020 election, and how likely they are to affect the Biden victory. The hosts look back at the week-long presidential election, which Joe Biden won. They discuss the challenges mounted by the Trump campaign in various states and explain why none of them is likely to change the outcome of the election. They also reflect on some state-level initiatives and put forth their strategy for how President Biden should deal with a split Senate, especially on matters pertaining to the Supreme Court. The hosts reflect on a string of cases pertaining to the coming election, discuss the legacy of Bush v. Gore, and the significance of Justice Kavanaugh recently citing Justice Rehnquist’s infamous concurrence in the case. They then replay their original analysis of the 2000 election case that put George W. Bush in the White House. The hosts reflect on the Amy Coney Barrett confirmation hearings, then move on to discussing gerrymandering, the practice of drawing up voting districts to favor a particular political party. Specifically, they talk about Rucho v. Common Cause, a 2019 case in which the Supreme Court not only refused to rule on two states’ gerrymandered maps, they found all partisan gerrymandering to be outside the purview of the Court going forward. The hosts discuss the past, present, and future of the Electoral College, and all the ways it could be used to stage a procedural coup in the upcoming election. They also talk about how the Electoral College could be restructured to give greater representation to states with large populations, like California. But if it were up to them, they’d get rid of this undemocratic institution all together, and switch to a system in which the president is chosen by popular vote. The hosts discuss the recent news that Donald Trump has contracted COVID-19 and what implications it might have for the upcoming election and the Supreme Court. Then they answer listener questions, covering everything from court reform to how to decide if you should go to law school.
