Chances are, you've heard Sworn Amongst before, after all, the British metal band has been active in some form or another since 2004. Quickly gaining an impressive reputation for their in-your-face, aggressive, groove-laden compositions, and over the years have built an extensive history of international touring and festival appearances to support their numerous releases. Over the years the band have been regular visitors to mainland Europe and have succeeded in turning heads for their sets at the world-renown Download and Bloodstock festivals. The band have also previously toured with numerous acts including playing main support to Canadian speed metal legends Annihilator as well as Gama Bomb, Our Hollow, Our Home, Lotus Eater, Bonded By Blood, Susperia, Breed 77, Man Must Die, Evile, and The Rotted. They've also shared stages with the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, The Faceless, Anthrax, Sepultura, Chimaira, Skindred, Meshuggah, Bleed From Within, While She Sleeps, Dark Tranquillity, Asking Alexandria, and Sylosis. They have appeared at a variety of prestigious festivals including Download Festival, Bloodstock, Metal Heads Mission, Wurzburg Metal Fest, and Metal Invasion to name but a few. After a brief hiatus starting in 2020, Sworn Amongst returned to form with its strongest line-up to date, releasing the much-anticipated single ‘Restitution'. This release saw the return of founding members Jonny Harper and Liam Liddell, who alongside guitarist Ashley Currie and bassist Kieran Agnew. have succeeded in returning the band to its rightful place as a force to be reckoned with in terms of the band's earth-shattering metalcore anthems, and their fiercely precise, electrifying live shows. On January 22nd, 2024, they released their latest single ‘Tyrant'. A track offered as a tribute to all people affected by modern-day genocide. The track serving as a statement of support and hope for the Ukrainian people and recognising their strength and unity as a nation. We spoke to guitarist Ash Curry about Tyrant and the importance it has to the band, as well as discussing the bigger Sworn Amongst picture, how they got to this point and where they might be heading next, having fun making music now, and so much more. Before we begin part 2 of the why nothing makes sense political discussion let's have a Heavy metal interlude, I'm joined by Joe from Gama Bomb for volume 15 of our random chats about mainly heavy metal but more or less anything. It was a pleasure to welcome back Jude McIlwaine (guitarist/vocals) of three piece thrash inferno Acid Age to the podcast. The band have had a busy 2023 gig wise with the culmination of recording a live concert in Belfast in December 2023, along with that there's an upcoming studio release for fans to sink their teeth into for 2024. Myself and Joe of Gama Bomb get some updates on the both releases that are currently being readied in the Acid Age camp, we talk about the development of Judes new finger picking style, a possible change in vocal delivery, new music and we delve into a few of our favourite thrash acts in this jam packed episode. It was a pleasure to welcome Conor Jordan (Bassist), Dan O'Connor (Drums)& Matt O'Brien (Guitarist) of Dublin Thrashers Crossfire on to the show. The band along with Kevin O'Connor-Conroy (Vocals/Guitars) formed in 2012, and have established their reputation as one of Ireland's premier thrash metal bands, utilizing a mix of sci-fi and horror-inspired lyricism and imagery with their own blend of the progressive ambition of old school metal with the aggression and intensity of modern thrash metal. Myself and Joe of Gama Bomb talk to the lads about their savage debut release 'Switch To Reset', signing to WormholeDeath Records, song-writing and riffage, gigs, the history of the band and many more subjects on this episode. It was a pleasure to welcome Philly, Joe and JR to the podcast to do an exclusive track by track rub through of their fantastic new release 'Bats' on @ProstheticRecords . 'From the tombs of Egypt to the faded glamour of old Hollywood, Philly, Domo, JR, Joe and James lead us through new sonic landscapes and all manner of novel adventures on what they themselves call their “weirdest” album yet.' Bats is their best Gama Bomb album to date for me, with musical nods to some of my favourite bands like Lizzy, Priest, Faith No More, Overkill and The Cult to name but a few. In sonic terms, the musicianship and singing is off the scale on this release, thanks to guitarist Domo who produced, mixed and mastered the entire thing, and he has done a fabulous job. So sit back, relax grab a beer, coffee or drink of your choice and listen to Philly, Joe & JR chat to me about how the creative process worked for the album, lyric inspirations and influences outside of the Metal spectrum. 'Bats' maybe called creepy, scary and spooky, but bats like Gama Bomb are an important species that impact our daily lives in ways we might not even realize. Episode 160 is an exert of the last half of the most recent Metal Salvage chat w Joe from GAMA BOMB which is a video over on my Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH-BtARZJ6ZgzQeqiWK3diw it started off about glam bands turning to grunge in the 90s but the last section we turned to the modern concept of being a musician, is it possible?you can hear my vaguely drunken anger at the unfair situation pitted against Joe's calm stoner logic, I thought it might be kinda interesting forlisteners of AA!! support the show over athttp://www.patreon.com/AlanAverillsponsored byMetal Blade records https://www.indiemerch.com/metalbladerecordspromo code AA 2023 for 10% off your orderships worldwidefor professional band backdrops contact :yes@torodrops.comand use the promo code ALANPrimordial on Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/0BZr6WHaejNA63uhZZZZek?si=-4UVUYiiQ5ahQ_U4_W4a2gVerminous Serpenthttps://open.spotify.com/artist/54Wpl9JD0Zn4rhpBvrN2Oa?si=Tf--gdXGTgC3QgpdhAWpJADread Sovereignhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/60HY4pl0nbOrZA6u2QnqDN?si=h5A0ZVNrRYazchmU6jtuXgSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/agitators-anonymous-the-alan-averill-podcast. James McBain of Hellripper makes a welcome return to The Metal Cell Podcast. Myself and Joe have a great chat with James about the latest Hellripper tour, which included seventeen dates across Europe and of course the tour Hellripper did around the UK supporting Joes band, Gama Bomb. It's been an incredible 2022 for Hellripper with the band getting some incredible write ups and shirt sales in the Metal Scene. I was delighted to get an exclusive low-down with James about the new album that has been completed for early 2023. We get to hear the album opening track 'The Nuckelavee' and it's a great example of what to expect off the album as myself & Joe talk through the influences and inspirations behind 'Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags'. Fans of the band will be delighted to hear that it's an absolute face ripping ride of frenzied riffing and solo's with the trademark Hellripper sound stomped all over it. It will certainly be at the top of the best Metal releases in next years polls and we here at The Metal Cell Podcast wish James continued success with Hellripper! All hail the Goat! Myself and Joe McGuigan of Gama Bomb sit down with Alan Averill of Primordial/Dread Sovereign. Primordial sell out venues around the world; they headline festivals across Europe, their fans will travel thousands of miles to see them, they're the biggest contemporary Irish metal band but are largely ignored by the main stream Irish press. We get an in-depth account from Alan about Primordial's rise to achieve that status with some fantastic insights into his creative process along with his other band as the bassist and vocalist of Dread Sovereign. There's certainly a fortitude and mental strength to survive thirty one years playing in Primordial and as their lead vocalist, Alan shares tales of gigs, fights and his views on the changes in the metal scene since he first started out. Hope you enjoy it. Richie. Hell Bent For Metal highlights a simple show of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community – and the bi community in particular – shown by Ireland's foremost thrash metallers Gama Bomb. Because sometimes simple gestures mean a huge amount.Swedish pop metallers Amaranthe provide this week's Camp Classic, as 'Drop Dead Cynical' is up for discussion. And it's a conversation that starts off with comparisons to pop goddesses, and somehow moves rapidly into NSFW territory. As you probably expect.Plus there are two new additions to the Hate Crew Gaybar jukebox, with Let There Be Witchery by Midnight and The War To End All Wars by Sabaton (quelle surprise) going in.
Jarvis Leatherby is the singer/bassist of U.S Metal band Night Demon, he also plays with legendary Metal bands Cirith Ungol and Jaguar. Myself and my two co-hosts Joe and Howard have a brilliant chat with Jarvis about the upcoming debut of his Frost & Fireland Metal Festival (June 17th/18th 2022) in Derry, Ireland. We get to hear plenty about the line up for the festival: Brian Downey's Alive and Dangerous, Gama Bomb, Night Demon, Mythra, Darkest Era, Satan, Cirith Ungol, Midnight, Wytch Hazel and of course Dread Sovereign. Jarvis has a long and varied career in the Metal business so not only will you hear some interesting tour stories, you'll also get to hear about the many people he has meet over the years as well. For the 150th episode of The Metal Cell Podcast, it was a pleasure to welcome Ben Ward, vocalist of the legendary Orange Goblin. I was also joined by Rónán O 'hArrachtáin vocalist with Ten Ton Slug and Joe McGuigan bassist of Gama Bomb. Ben talks about how Orange Goblin was formed, the early years of the band, his booking agency Route One Booking, signing with Peaceville Records and the addition of Harry Armstrong on bass duties. There's also a discussion on the recording of a new Orange Goblin release along with some upcoming tour dates for the band discussed. So be sure to check it out and subscribe to The Metal Cell Podcast if you enjoyed the interview. Thanks for the support on this special episode. Richie.

Normally when using words like "cringe" and "creepy" with regards to our beloved genre, it's used in a more artistic and horror related manner. Death and Goth Metal aside, a few of the more mainstream Heavy Rock/Metal artists have put pen to paper and come up with some rather cringeworthy lyrics. Call it art from a different era, if you will. Nonetheless, some classic songs (KISS, The Nuge, Winger a.o.) have made us go "Ugh!" and took us down some dark paths that "old time rock n roll" shouldn't take us. So we gave some of these creepy tunes the once over. And it's not even Halloween...yet! In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discuss the new Maiden and bullies in music school(!) Musically, we crank new tunage from Lucifyre, Gama Bomb, Expunged, Imprecation and introduce Ottawa deathsters Deformatory in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up and Stay Healthy! We kick off today's episode with corrosive new tracks from black metal masters Ruins of Beverast, Paysage d'Hiver, Spectral Wound and Wode!!! We'll also wreak havoc on your eardrums with some wanton death metal destruction courtesy of Venom Prison, Nekrovault and Occult Burial, and we'll hear Baptists, Kylesa and Napalm Death tackle punishing covers of some of their favourite '80s hardcore punk bands. The second half of the show features crushing, blasted-out doom from Vile Creature and Cardinal Wyrm, as well as new lighter-lifting anthems from Haunt, Sandstorm and Gama Bomb. We'll also get a wicked dose of break-neck thrash with new music from Teutonic legends Sodom and the Brazilian powerhouse Nervosa, and we'll also dig a track by Bay Area rattleheads EXODUS from their landmark 1985 debut Bonded By Blood out of The Graveyard! Let's get RAD!!!!
It was a pleasure to interview Jude, who is one of the most talented guitarists on this great island of ours. Acid Age play an exciting brand of Thrash/Technical Death Metal which is mixed with Jazz Fusion and a few other styles as well. The trio released a brand new album in 2021 titled "Semper Pessimus", which is a concept album based around Nero, the last emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. Acid Age have a strong back catalog of releases dating back to their first E.P in 2013 and are really looking forward to touring "Semper Pessimus" around Ireland and further afield. My co-host Joe from Gama Bomb and Jude have shared stages together so there was plenty of stories about the Metal Scene both here and in the North. Hope you enjoy the interview and please subscribe to the channel if you enjoyed the interview. Thanks Richie. Black metalled Scour are a unique beast. The line up consists of some of the top names in extreme music including (ex) Pantera, Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, and Misery Index. Slinging bass for this unholy alliance is RAM alum John Jarvis (AN). The Five Horsemen of the Musical Apocalypse have dropped their new EP, "Black" and Mr. Jarvis told us all about it. We discussed the "all star" concept, recording said record, and the contribution from "Aqua Man" himself, Mr. Jason Mamoa. My Man!! In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we geek out over our geeky fandoms, most notably the new "Kaldheim" Magic card campaign. The Metal Cell Forums Pt.2 Join myself, Danielle, Evan and Jack for part 2 of this show to celebrate The Metal Cell hitting the magic 100 mark. The comradery in the Irish Metal Scene is second to none so welcoming Ronan of Ten Ton Slug, Mattie of Na Cruithne, Joe of Gama Bomb and Howard of Partolón to celebrate this 100th show was terrific and made us all realise how much we missed each other at gigs. We also had Ruben, my 12yr old son as a Heavy Metal Quizmaster to grill Joe, Howard, Danielle, Evan and Jack on their knowledge of metal! Grant (Guitars/Vox) & Tom (Drums) of Psykosis join myself and Joe of Gama Bomb to have a brilliant chat about the thrash metal scene. Since they were formed in 2009, Psykosis have built up an impressive array of supports to M.O.D, DRI, Diamond Head, Sacred Reich, Trivium, Sodom, Onslaught and Nuclear Assault to name a few. Due to their incendiary live shows, which saw them been invited to play Bloodstock twice and Metal Days in Slovenia, Psykosis have built up a large following of fans in the Irish Scene playing venues up and down the country. Despite a few line up changes, Grant and Tom have not let that hinder their progress, judging by "Insanitized" a demo of one of several new killer songs ready to be put out sometime next year. A really enjoyable interview with one of Irelands best Metal bands. In another exclusive we get a blistering brand new track from Gama Bomb as well. Dancing in the kitchen. So much fun. You will please me, damn it! Hope you're feeling OK. We're not as sad as it sounds like we might be in parts of this, but times are tough in Melbourne - to quote Cassie, everything is not cool. But we're here to help each other. We have a private Facebook group now, search Dug By Us and join in with us. This week Cassie claims someone is the Freddy Mercury of our time! And Chris brings in our first official Bieber reference. He wasn't just scatting to fill a gap. Happy Gilmore gets in too!Who's side are you on? Glitter makes the world better? OR Glitter is the coronavirus of craft?
The episode that made Cassie feel like a little girl at Christmas! So excited. I think she wants a pony. We don't deliver a pony in this 11 minute audio piece but we do discuss some incredible songs. 4 from probably 4 mutually exclusive genres. I love that about Dug By Us. Even the first 2 we review today - from IDLES and Jack Garratt - they weren't exactly from each others' go-to vibes, but the respect is there. We can grow! We can challenge our minds and our instincts! We welcome music from all types on this show! Except you. Get nicked.
I have decided to spread the word on the Irish Metal Scene by talking to similar bands elsewhere in the world. I'm going to give them a Spotify Irish Metal playlist to listen to; compare our scene with their scene and hopefully build a relationship that might see a band from Ireland play in their country or vice a versa. The second of these interviews is in Adelaide, Australia with local thrash legend Chris McEwen, vocalist/bassist of Hidden Intent. Myself and Joe McGuigan (new co-host & bassist with Gama Bomb) talk to Chris about gigs, music and discover that Joe and Chris share a lot of the same things, both are bassists, both are recording new albums in 2020 and both are in bands that have toured relentlessly. Hidden Intent have a few tours of Europe under their belts and are keen to do a tour with Gama Bomb....can we make this happen? Listen to the show to find out! I hope you enjoy it. Gama Bomb have spent the last 17 years delighting and tormenting willing audiences in equal measure. Having inked a deal with Los Angeles based Prosthetic Records, the band is currently working on the follow up to 2018's critically acclaimed Speed Between The Lines. I was delighted to catch up with Philly (vox) and Joe (Bass) and enjoy their company as they chatted about tours, new music and their love of Metal! THE DOOMED & STONED SHOW ~Season 5, Episode 48~ We're smack dab in the middle of Halloween month, so The Doomed & Stoned Show is turning its attention to the reason for the season: horror! This episode takes a look at a relatively unknown disasterpiece: Gore-Met Zombie Chef From Hell (1986), with a colorful cast of characters including Goza, Blozor, Azog, and Lonezor! The plot is convoluted, but here's the gist: sometime in the Middle Ages, the evil Goza betrays the Sacred Order of the Righteous Brotherhood by killing the high priest and is cursed to live out the remainder of his life as a cannibal. Fast-forward to coastal Texas in the mid-'80s and Goza opens up a seafood restaurant with his henchman Blozor to lure hapless victims in to kill and cook. Isn't that nice? Well, not so much, because old man Azog, the twin brother of Goza, waits by the gates to warn visitors not to go inside! Meanwhile, ambitious high priest candidate Lonezor plans a showdown with Goza. Can he be defeated? PLAYLIST: GOZA'S CURSE (00:00) 1. Black Breath - "Reaping Flesh" (02:23) THE HEALTH INSPECTOR (07:44) 2.
