Ugly American Werewolf in London: REM - Fables of the Reconstruction

By 1985, REM had carved out a following both in their home base of Athens, GA and at colleges and indie radio stations around the US. Their first two albums Murmur and Reckoning gave them a foothold as they learned how to craft songs and play live. But they were ready to take the next step so instead of retreating to North Carolina where they'd recorded their first two albums, they went to London to broaden their horizons and up their songwriting and recording game. Because REM had grown into a solid live band, some songs were worked out on the road like their classic travel song Driver 8. But they also sought inspiration from some of the odd characters they encountered in Athens and around the South with songs like Wendell Gee, Life And How To Live It and Old Man Kensey. They also drew from their travels to create some great road songs like Can't Get There From Here, Maps & Legends and Feeling Gravity's Pull. Guitarist Peter Buck does his jangly best here while breaking out a little banjo in spots. Mike Mills not only locks down the bass but provides harmonies and counterpoints to Michael Stipes desperate and personal lyrics. This album would portend the next two REM records - Life's Rick Pageant and Document - both favorites of The Wolf. While the band would go onto become multi-platinum international pop superstars in the 90s, this album saw the band not ready to become that big but ready to take the next step in their journey. It's a fun one to dive into as it turns 40! Barry saw Midnight Oil live at a Club 1235 in Miami Beach in June 1988 with his medical school classmate, Dr. Michael Franz. Abigail heard the iconic first three notes of Beds Are Burning as very similar to the iconic first three notes of Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple. Abigail associated Dreamworld with Can't Get There From Here by R.E.M., although she couldn't quite put her finger on why. Androporosphere (which appears in Whoah) is a made-up word that is a play on anthroposphere. Barry recommended Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson. Abigail believes The Home Depot Beat may be a direct rip-off of Sell My Soul. The double clap at the beginning of Sometimes reminded Abigail of this TikTok. Up next… Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd, submitted to our Jukebox by Jeff “Jafo” Shettler. Jingles are by our friend Pete Coe. The I Heart PCA interns had the brilliant idea to write some new lyrics to country songs - makes sense, right? Here you go. One important note - all of these singers are from foreign countries. They weren't corrected if they got a word or two wrong. And they had some doozy lyrics to work with (sorry about that). We think they're wonderful. And please don't tell the artists! So: 1. I Try to Think about Morton - this is what we do when we don't want to think about the pandemic or politics 2. Shoes - a tribute to some of the great Presbyterian pastors who are still living and ministry as of the recording of this song 3. Nothing Loves Like Liturgy Does - duh 4. Buy Me Some Votes - how we can get what we want passed at GA 5. Diggin' Up Bones - sorry to break it to you, but not everything in the PCA world is awesome 6. Are you Sure - a slow ballad about whether or not you want to join a church, presbytery, or denomination 7. You Can't Get There From Here - you want to escape frustration at GA? 8. Weight Gain - when we hyper focus on one sin area 9. Just Because - when you leave a church to go somewhere else 10. Pastors Sweetheart - oh yeah 11. Fears Gonna Live Here - how we make a lot of decisions and declarations and blogs and conferences 12. Step Inside My House - this one is about one PCA pastor who shall remain nameless unless he names himself 13.

The Freedom International panel interviews Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D. Enjoy Dr. Lipton's most recent thoughts on our situation on this planet and how we can heal in wholeness. Dr. Lipton is an internationally recognized leader in bridging science and spirit. A stem cell biologist, bestselling author of The Biology of Belief, and recipient of the 2009 Goi Peace Award. Between 1987 and 1992, he revealed that the environment, operating though the membrane, controlled the behavior and physiology of the cell, turning genes on and off. His discoveries, which ran counter to the established scientific view that life is controlled by genes, began one of today's most important fields of study, the science of epigenetics. Two major scientific publications derived from these studies defined the molecular pathways connecting the mind and body. Dr. Lipton's novel scientific approach transformed his personal life as well. His deepened understanding of cell biology highlighted the mechanisms by which the mind controls bodily functions, and implied the existence of an immortal spirit. He applied this science to his personal biology and discovered that his physical well-being improved, and the quality and character of his daily life were greatly enhanced. Dr. Lipton's work summarizing his findings, entitled, The new updated 10th Anniversary Edition of The Biology of Belief, (Hay House Publishing, softcover, ISBN 978-1-4019-4891-7). What I’m Most Think Of The Person, Circumstance, Or Event In Your Life That You Are The Most Ungrateful For? Then, Ask God For A New Level Of Faith That Includes Gratitude For That Too. (LINCOLN- Day Of National Thanksgiving)1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 16Rejoice always; 17pray without ceasing; 18in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.ALL MEANS... “ALL”pás: ("each, every") means "all" in the sense of "each (every) part that applies." The emphasis of the total picture then is on "one piece at a time." (ananeóō) then focuses on the part(s) making up the whole – viewing the whole in terms of the individual parts. This Greek word basically means "these things all taken together", not partially, not by piece and partial.Romans 8:26-28 26And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Thankful for a Thief - Gift Thanks - Les Miserables)WHY GRATITUDE?Because Gratitude Is The Key To The Door That Unlocks Joy. Because Reality. This Really IS Your Life Right Now. It Is The ONLY Life You Have. Because Gratitude In The Journey Is ALL There Is. Nothing Else Can Be Changed.Because: “You Can’t Get There From Here.” When Your Starting Line Is Ungrateful, Your Finish Line Will Also Be Ungrateful. You Will Always Find What You’re Looking For. It’s Who You Are, Not What You Do.Because You Don’t Know The End Of The Story.(Chinese Video)2 Corinthians 4:16-18 16Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 17For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Creating (or even recreating) a powerful brand is much more than logos or colors. As you grow your real estate investing portfolio, it becomes incredibly important to establish a brand that truly resonates with your ideal customers.  We are super excited on today's episode to talk with Carissa Vivirito, who brings over 17 years of real estate and digital marketing experience to her realtor and investing business. We chat about all things branding, including the importance of having a unique value proposition, how to incorporate your brand in your day to day world, and how to stay in front of your ideal clients and customers! Carissa created EVOLVE to reflect how she experiences real estate, from the heart. After all, our true homes are carried within us. Carissa's hands-on personal experience is wide-reaching as a buyer, seller, investor, landlord, interior designer, and general contractor. Bruce begins the interview with an introduction to his work and then moves on to speaking about the nature of vaccines and why he thinks there are problems with them. The nature of vaccinations and the role of our immune system is a topic that is not really understood by the conventional public.
It is generally accepted that controlling the immune system to create antibodies against germs or parasites that try to attack us, is successfully done by vaccines. Parents are pressured to vaccinate their children.

It is accepted that we can create an immune response by taking foreign elements, bacteria, viruses, and parasites, or pieces of these elements, and putting them into a solution, and then injecting it under our skin.   This is to invoke the immune system to make a response against these invasive foreign materials or antigens. Generally we believe that the vaccines are the way to program the immune system to protect us from environmental parasites, bacteria and viruses. Therefore we have bought into the system of artificially putting these antigens under our skin to invoke an immune response. The question of whether this is beneficial or not, is now coming into the open. Bruce address this issue from the point of view that immunology has made a misunderstanding about something very important called the tonsils! He says,
“If you recognize the nature of infants and their behaviour you realise that infants put everything they can find and fit into their mouths. Their own fists, arms, feet, anything they find in their cot, anything you hand them they will instinctively put it into their mouths.” This is not an accident this is nature's natural immune vaccination system. What the baby is doing is sampling the environment. Everything it can reach will inevitably end up in its mouth! By this process the infant is actually introducing antigens into the immune system and initiating an immune response. Bruce expands on this, drawing on his extensive scientific background. He also speaks candidly about the role of the pharmaceutical companies in this.
Currently we're finding an epidemic in regard to allergic reactions or hypersensitivity.  We're also finding that people are bringing in the concept that autism is seems to be associated with the widespread use of vaccines, so there are very profound questions out there as to the safety of using vaccines to create immune responses. In infancy when we give a large amount of vaccines to the child their immune systems aren't tooled up to handle so much, especially coming from an introduction that is not normal in any sense of biology, so basically forcing the immune system to respond to these vaccinations in an abnormal way is not in the best interest of the body’s system.   It is not the way it normally deals with it, and therefore that we are beginning to find that vaccines are very likely causing many kinds of problems. What is introduced into the system is not just the foreign cells and bacteria and the viruses or pieces of the parasites that they use, but also the chemistry in which the vaccines are created, which include a lot of mercury and aluminium and a lot of other things such as formaldehyde, which are poisons. This is an attempt to enhance the immune system, but at the same time it is essentially overpowering it with poisons and toxins. So Bruce has come to the conclusion that if we want the best vaccine system in the world we should actually focus on creating oral vaccines in nature's original way. Bruce H. Dr. Lipton's research on muscular dystrophy, studies employing cloned human stem cells, focused upon the molecular mechanisms controlling cell behavior. An experimental tissue transplantation technique developed by Dr. Lipton and colleague Dr. Ed Schultz and published in the journal Science was subsequently employed as a novel form of human genetic engineering. In 1982, Dr. Lipton began examining the principles of quantum physics and how they might be integrated into his understanding of the cell's information processing systems. He produced breakthrough studies on the cell membrane, which revealed that this outer layer of the cell was an organic homologue of a computer chip, the cell's equivalent of a brain. His research at Stanford University's School of Medicine, between 1987 and 1992, revealed that the environment, operating though the membrane, controlled the behavior and physiology of the cell, turning genes on and off. His discoveries, which ran counter to the established scientific view that life is controlled by the genes, presaged one of today's most important fields of study, the science of epigenetics. Two major scientific publications derived from these studies defined the molecular pathways connecting the mind and body. Many subsequent papers by other researchers have since validated his concepts and ideas. Dr. Lipton's novel scientific approach transformed his personal life as well. His deepened understanding of cell biology highlighted the mechanisms by which the mind controls bodily functions, and implied the existence of an immortal spirit. He applied this science to his personal biology, and discovered that his physical well-being improved, and the quality and character of his daily life was greatly enhanced.
