Aside from the horrible choice to start charging taxes on a class of vehicle that Australia desperately needs to better promote to improve environmental outcomes on our roads, the 2.5c per km fee has to be manually tracked and reported via a website, adding a level of nuisance and friction to those who are leading the way with EV adoption. Penalties will apply for anyone who fails to adhere to the new reporting system. The game is dropping a second tank class from the standard team composition and while it might not seem like much on the surface it will see a huge shift in the style of play typically seen in the game where tanks and shields have slowed the regularity of kills in the game's modes. Overall this single announcement gives Overwatch 2 the biggest boost in appeal as it will significantly change the flavour of PvP in the game.In local esports, the ANZ Premier League of World of Tanks wrapped up over the weekend, with North Sydney Sentinels taking out the title against the Brisbane Bulldogs at a final event at Fortress Melbourne. Chip and Cern are all about all things smart home. They discuss their setups, trends and what they are looking for on the horizon of smart and connected homes.    Cern has two Nest thermostats, a gaggle of Amazon Echos, Roombas, Tiles, smart scale, and Ring doorbell and smart lock. Cern is looking to get some camera to add to his set up.   Chip has a handful of Amazon Echos, Roombas, Nest thermostat, Nest protect, Nest doorbell thing, tons of smart plugs and lights. Chip is now looking at switching over to Google Home products because of his deep investment in Nest products. Chip does recognize that this is absurd to switch it over pretty much just because.    The Google Home Hub is what is really appealing to Chip because it is an easy to control hub for all the smart products. That is the big miss that Chip sees. After some light Googling they found that Samsung does offer this type of product.    Chip is also really into this Google Max speaker that is loud AF, but also cost $400 each.    Chip and Cern share a story when they got burned by one of the OG GPS from Tom Tom. How are smart displays engineered and what's inside of them? TechRepublic's Cracking Open experts Bill Detwiler and Jason Hiner take apart the Google Home Hub and the Amazon Echo Show 2 at CES 2019 to find out.

Kids are particularly terrible for robots. At least, that’s what researchers in Japan discovered when they let a robot roam around a shopping center in Osaka in 2015. A group of kids antagonized the robot, forcing the researchers to program an algorithm that would give the bot the agency to evade abuse. That’s just one example of challenging social interactions between humans and robots, and one that technologists have almost certainly considered when building and designing delivery bots. Including the folks at Amazon: This week, the e-commerce behemoth dropped a web page for Scout, its new delivery robot. For now, Scout’s impact is small. The six-wheeled delivery bot is only piloting in Snohomish County, Washington, and only with Prime customers who request short-term delivery. But anything Amazon does has the potential to fundamentally disrupt shipping (not to mention a whole slew of eager startups that have been building their own automated delivery solutions). Google unveiled a number of new products Tuesday at its big hardware event, including the Google Home Hub and Google Pixel Slate. But the Pixel 3, the company's new smartphone was the real star. The Pixel 3, which is available in two sizes and starts at $799, comes in three colors and has a rear 12.2 megapixel camera as well as a dual front camera. What's inside the phone is a host of new apps and features.
