In this week's omnibus episode of the Echo Tips Podcast, host David Ward provides an in-depth, yet constructively critical, review of the Library of Congress's "My Talking Books" Alexa skill for individuals with print disabilities. While praising the skill's responsive setup and book listing capabilities, David highlights several key areas for improvement, particularly in playback control and navigation. He contrasts the "My Talking Books" interface with the more intuitive designs of similar skills from RNIB and Vision Australia, demonstrating issues with pausing requirements for commands and a cumbersome multi-step exit process. David proposes innovative solutions such as the implementation of distinct voices and auditory cues to enhance user feedback and differentiate the skill's environment. He also touches upon the potential of AI to revolutionize accessibility interfaces and points out inconsistencies in content availability compared to other NLS platforms. This episode serves as a passionate call for a more user-friendly and efficient experience for accessing talking books via Alexa.## AttributionGalloway's Demohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4Hk6J71PTEDot to Dot Podcast Episode 1650https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dot-to-dot-the-daily-5min-alexa-demo-show/id1205291265

Writer/Director (and Daniela's stepdad) David Ward recounts how he hit a box office home run with 1989's MAJOR LEAGUE. At a time when both baseball movies and baseball as a sport were struggling, he managed to create the perfect formula for a sports underdog story. Performances from Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes, and Tom Berenger combined to make the perfect cast of quirky characters that everyone wanted to see beat the odds. Add in a will they/won't they romance and a delicious villian, and a sports movie structure was born that is emulated to this day. F-Stop Collaborate and Listen - A Landscape Photography Podcast
As photographers we are often trying to figure out what we should do with our photographs. Of late, it has become more popular to produce a coffee table style book to showcase our work; however, not all photography books of this style are created equal. Today's guest on the F-Stop Collaborate and Listen Podcast, Alex Nail, is one of my absolute favorite landscape photographers. He authored and produced one of my favorite photography books a few years back and now he's getting ready to release his second book, The Great Wilderness. His second book was a massive undertaking involving hundreds of miles of hiking over more than four years. Alex's dedication to the craft of landscape photography is nearly unparalleled in today's environment where editing used to make up for a lack of amazing conditions has become commonplace. On this week's episode, we discuss: How Alex's opinions have gotten him into hot water over the years and how he's adapted over time. Why Alex got involved as a co-founder of the Natural Landscape Photography Awards. Alex's approach to making photographs for his latest book. The nuts and bolts to making a high quality photography book, including color space. How much Alex's book cost and why. Alex's approach to shipping his book internationally. What to expect from Alex's book. Design considerations for a photography book. And a lot more! P.S. The first 20 listeners to use the code “USFSTOP” will get a £10 discount on shipping of Alex's book! Other topics/links discussed on the podcast this week: Support the podcast on Patreon. In part two of our special episode in support of Baby Loss Awareness Week in the UK, our host James Abbott speaks to two wonderful people who took their own trauma and grief and did an incredible thing with it. They founded a charity to help people in the same painful position they were in – a position nobody wants to find themselves in - facing the death of a baby.Jo and David Ward went through the tragedy of the death of their daughter, Abigail, who was stillborn at 41 weeks, and they're here to share their story with us now and to talk about their marvellous charity Abigail's Footsteps set up in memory of Abigail. With still births and neonatal deaths standing at around 14 a day in England and Wales – sadly one of the highest rates in the developed world - the work of the charity has never been more important.
Today on the show, Steven and Shaun discuss more of your feedback covering a wide range of topics as discussed over the past few weeks. We are also joined by David Ward, who hosts the popular Echo Tips podcast, to share his thoughts on the Amazon event; in particular, he wants to ask the guys' views on a couple of areas that he thinks we've missed. Does what David has heard suggest that the devices may become harder for blind people to use? Also, Lena gets in touch to share that there is a user guide for getting started with Shortcuts on Apple devices. F-Stop Collaborate and Listen - A Landscape Photography Podcast
One of the best ways to differentiate ourselves as photographers is to fully engage in the creative process. As such, one sure-fire path to making more creative work is to experiment. Experimentation can help to unlock creativity and help us create more interesting work. Since experimentation is something I think we can all learn more about, I was excited to record a podcast with one of my favorite photographers here in Colorado, Alfredo Mora. Alfredo works full-time supporting the NASA program and takes some absolutely splendid images, largely using experimental techniques. He placed third in the 2nd year of the Natural Landscape Photography Awards and has always impressed me with his modesty and level-headedness. On this week's episode, we discuss: How Alfredo got into photography. How Alfredo's background in architectural photography has helped him as a nature photographer. How Alfredo's cultural background has influenced his path and approach to making images. How Alfredo is able to balance a full-time job supporting NASA launches, a family, and his photographic pursuits. The importance of taking risks as a photographer. How Alfredo experiments with Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), multiple exposures, and Photoshop blend modes to create unique images. How Alfredo's approach to making images has shifted from results-driven to experience-driven. The differences between being inspired and copying other people's photographs. Processes for releasing images to the public. Photography competitions. Writing and moderating the critique group for Nature Photographer's Network (NPN). And a lot more! Other topics/links discussed on the podcast this week: Support the podcast on Patreon. Join me over on Nature Photographer's Network and use the code "FSTOP10" for a 10% discount!
