There really is no bad time for a well made Red Ale! While Reds may not be as sexy as IPAs or Hazys they make a really good pairing for food! Once again playing into the fun behind their beer, Steve from Dos Desperados shares his Ruffian Red Ale which is kind of an enigma because it straddles the line between two very popular variations of the style.

Send us a textIn this episode of Brewstilled, I'm recapping the season 2 finale of Apple TV's Severance. For the season 2 finale of Apple TV's Severance we got a mind blowing, emotional, and excellent finale that contained a cliffhanger ending that tops the one from season 1. The finale also left us with several lingering questions that should pave the way for an excellent season 3. We saw the Innies and Outties meet via unusual circumstances, revelations at Lumon and the completion of the Cold Harbor project. This was definitely a deep episode that was a fitting finale for Apple TV's Severance season 2 finale. I'll be recapping the episode here on Brewstilled with a Red Ale from Stormbreaker Brewing as the beer pairing.

We head back to Lund this episode for a trip to Inferno. This was the premiere craft beer bar in Lund for years. Sadly, they have scaled back on their selection. You can still find lots of interesting bottles and can but the taplist has become a tap pedestrian. We tried two beers on tap. Normally I would go into the beers at this point but we both felt the taps weren't clean the beers were off. We had Fourpure British Red Ale and New Belgium Hazy Voodoo Ranger. It's hard to recommend either based off what we tasted. Maybe we'll try them again one day and give a proper rating. If you do get to visit Inferno, it's still a nice beer bar with loads of character, just maybe stick to the bottles and cans. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #redale #ipa #newbelgium #fourpure #inferno #lund

As we move to the month of the Irish we might as well start reviewing some Irish beer styles. This week we discuss Irish Red Ales. This is a style that has a very distinctive malt flavor that showcases both notes of toffee and caramel. While the true Irish Red Ales are lower in alcohol, American versions often come in a t much higher payloads.   Style examples: 1.     Guinness – Smithwick's Red Ale 2.     Sam Adam's - Irish Red 3.     Thirsty Dog – Irish Red Setter ·      ABV: 3.8 – 5.0% ·      IBUs: 18-28 ·      Color: 9-14 Our sample beer for the week: Great Lakes Brewing Company – Conway's Irish Ale 6.3% and 25 IBU.  Beer as described by brewer: A pint for Pa Conway! Our co-owners' grandfather and policeman who'd likely uphold that an Irish Ale with full-bodied caramel malt flavors is just the ticket. Coming in hot ahead of the Christmas holiday weekend, here's a wholesome new episode of Beats, Beards & Brews for all to enjoy! It's December, which means the music release calendar has slowed way down, but that doesn't stop the boys from diving into the latest EP from The Sound of Animals Fighting titled APESHIT. Listen with glee as the gang debates whether they like this experimental indie/post-hardcore rock band's new tracks or not. It's a lot to digest, that's for sure! The Sound of Animals Fighting songs previewed during this episode include: Apeshit Wolf Sharon Tate, Despite Everything In a new segment titled "Eric's New Cool Winter Beard Oil Scents," the man himself (Eric) drops three cold weather beard oil recommendations. These are beard oils that Eric recommends for any bearded man when the temps get cold. Eric's top beard oil picks for the 2022 winter season include: The Lodge by T3 Beard Co. (alternate picks if this is sold out include Yukkon & The Bumble) Scent profile: Warm amber, tonka, sandalwood, smokey sweet pipe tobacco, Oud, cedar wood, sweet almond, warm honey. Joy by Can You Handlebar Moustache & Beard Co. (and a link to Goodwill for something a little different) Scent profile: Peppermint, clary sage. Huntsman by The Beard Baron (see website for even more cold classics) Scent profile: Cedar, oak moss, amber. Don't forget to check these businesses' social media accounts (especially Instagram) for potential sales codes. Finally, the boys serve up a fisting of beer reviews, as they all drink Fistmas, a holiday red ale with ginger and orange peel, by Revolution Brewing. Happy holidays!

This week, Beer Sessions Radio welcomes two homeschooled brewers — Jeff Lyons from Endless Life Brewing in Brooklyn, and Jaega Wise from Wild Card Brewery in East London, who also happens to be the author of “Wild Brews.” The gang will bang out lessons on homebrewing and sour beers, before revealing the secrets to the water section of Jaega's latest book. The episode starts with Jaega's and Jeff's introduction to the homebrewing world as well as their backgrounds outside of the beer industry. While Jaega grew up in the Midland region in UK, noted for Burton-on-Trent, with a CAMRA beer festival as her first, Jeff hung out with the Beer Judge Certification Program gang in the back room of Jimmy's No. 43. Jaega also shared her unexpectedly perfect journey to beerdom, studying chemical engineering and going to water school for her previous job in water treatment. She went on to explain the keys to controlling what she considers the most underappreciated ingredient in brewing — water. The gang then goes deeper into sour beer and the history of homebrewing, with Jimmy admitting to only being able to make “the no hygiene beer” inspired by the Victorian era's Tudor. They also discuss the revival of cask beers along with the brewing scene in London, with a tiny surprise about water in Scotland and whisky distilling. Grab your headset and listen in on the secrets right now!Photo Courtesy of Jaega Wise.Heritage Radio Network is a listener supported nonprofit podcast network. FlyteCo Brewing is cleared for takeoff Denver's FlyteCo Brewing opened their first location in 2019.  Although Colorado has no shortage of breweries, owners Morgan O'Sullivan and Jason Slingsby knows there's always room for more great places to grab a beer.  Their second location will open soon, in a decommissioned air control tower.  O'Sullivan and Slingsby want visitors to see FlyteCo as their own Cheers.  Where the bartenders know your name and have a beer ready for you when you walk in.  Norrrrm!  If getting to know people isn't your thing then maybe your and your beer can spend some quality time at the on-site mini golf or bowling. If the air traffic control tower didn't give it away, the brewery has an aviation theme.  Two of the three owners are pilots.  In addition to drop-in fishing trips (I'm so jealous) they've even flown to Western Colorado to pick up hops fresh from the farm and back to the brewery to get them in a beer in a little over an hour.  How's that for freshness? The guys knew the way to our hearts and sent us a sample of their Tipsy Nipper, a stellar Belgian Saison.  We sample Heading 270 West Coast IPA and Ski Plane Stout as well.  We reminisced on the old days of 2014 when saisons were cool and praise the versatility of the style while pondering if getting crazy with them might make them cool again.  We even come up with a collab, look for Milky Disco DDH LactoGlitter Saison coming soon. Happy St. Patrick's Day, or is that St. Paddy's Day? Either way, when it comes to beer and brewing, perhaps the real Saint we should be admiring could very well be St. Brigid (more on that in this episode). Speaking of episodes, we start this shindig off by tasting some excellent Irish/St. Paddy's themed beers and then give it a lash to discuss the history of the Irish Pub, learning about Ireland's patron saints, Publicans, Barmen, Alewives, Spirit Grocers, SheBeens, Patrick Cavanaugh and Brendan Behan “dog days to drink” legend, and the lot that brought us into the era of the Public Houses we so fondly adore and frequently adjourn to. As for theater on the table, we start with Mike's home brewed Red Ale, a tasty, roasty, clean, easy drinker, if there ever was one ;) that finished off fast (1.5 weeks) at 4.5 ABV. We also sip on Urban Forest Landmire Spring, a zest black IPA that warms the soul. Then on to more traditional fermentations from Smithwick Red Ale (the most consumed ale in Ireland…ever!) and Guinness Extra Stout, a beer that some have called the perfect balance of bitter and sweet, smooth and dry with a yummy creamy head, first brewed in 1821. Happy listening…we're off to the pub! While we'll miss out on the ultimate Irish authenticity on this March 17, we have a nice selection of traditional ale houses to drink until we're gilded green with envy.  Special shout out to our sponsors, especially the boys at Pig Minds Brewing who are always brewing for perfection! If you're seeking a hard-to-find commercial craft beer, wine or spirits to take home or as a gift, then stop in to Artale & Co, Anthony and Aaron have plenty of great ideas. When you are ready to start a new indoor gardening project stop in to 815 Gardens, Bob will be happy to help.
