After a full day of Master Tech assessments, our esteemed guests stayed late to provide valuable insight on their unique experience as adept Master Technicians. And finally, with the recent Stellantis merger, our expert guests discuss the challenges of providing service and repair for a range of brands and what changes the industry may see for dealer tools in the future. Welcome back to the Harmonic Motion podcast! This week, James is joined by previous podcast guest, business coach and mentor, Jay Wheatley from Absolutely Automotive. This time the spotlight is on the pivotal role Service Advisors play in the automotive industry. Jay has used his extensive experience of working in the industry and turning an established garage into a specialist garage, to support other garage owners in improving their businesses and achieving their goals. James and Jay deep dive into hiring Service Advisors, ensuring they integrate into the team and deciphering the ideal attributes for success in this role. Oftentimes you may find that a technician who is nearing retirement naturally transitions into the role of service advisor; but is this always the best move for the business? They discuss the optimal skills for the job, whether a technical or non-technical employee can deliver a better customer experience and the role empathy plays in customer service. Additionally, the conversation delves into using empathy vs sympathy to make difficult decisions that results in both customer, business satisfaction and continued business profitability. https://absolutelyautomotive.co.uk/ info@absolutelyautomotive.co.uk Get involved in the podcast and be the first to know about new episodes by joining the Harmonic Motion podcast Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/549573740317836/ Join the mailing list: https://techtopics.co.uk/mailing-list/ Connect: Website: https://techtopics.co.uk/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/technical.topics.training/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tthq_techtopics/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/techtopics LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/technical-topics-ltd Listen: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/harmonic-motion/id1665148277 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3SzEMN08BU7wCSdB3xkXkH?si=e12f5c6f381f4681 Amazon: https://music.amazon.co.uk/podcasts/364bf8fa-82b5-43e5-b227-ad9eb99e8fd3/harmonic-motion YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@theharmonicmotionpodcast Watch the video version of this episode and subscribe to the Harmonic Motion YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@theharmonicmotionpodcast

In this episode, Dave and Andrew discuss someone they know primarily as a music theorist. George Perle is celebrated for his theoretical work on twelve-tone theory and Alban Berg's music, but how does he stack up as a composer? And what do they think of the first woodwind quintet to win a Pulitzer? In this episode of The Harmonic Motion Podcast, James Dillon interviews Alex Lindley, who shares his experiences in the automotive industry. They discuss various topics such as the challenges and successes of Lindley Auto Centre, the importance of analysing data and finances, the transition to Garage Hive as a management system, and the significance of effective communication and pricing strategies. Additionally, it emphasizes the value of competitive salaries, social media presence, and effective communication skills for businesses in the automotive industry. Alex Lindley introduces his background and journey in the motor industry. Alex joined Lindley's Auto Centres, a long established family business, in 2004. Initially focusing on engine work, they used to specialise in head gasket repairs and engine rebuilds, but moved the business model to service, repair, maintenance and fast-fit. This shift prompted Alex to take a greater interest in the business's operations and learn about bookkeeping and data analysis. In 2012, they were given the opportunity to manage a second location, which presented challenges such as managing an older team and transitioning from analogue to digital systems, and near disaster led to a laser focus on accurately managing the business. These experiences provided invaluable development opportunities for Alex and the business. Latterly, the opportunity arose to invest in a software business, Garage Hive, which has seen the development of a highly popular garage management system find a place in the UK garage management system market. Driven by the need for accurate data, Alex and the Garage Hive team have embarked upon a relentless persuit of developing a system which helps garage owners manage their own businesses Alex's story of personal drive to be the best he can be, and in developing the businesses with which he is involved to excellence, is inspiring. In this episode of the Harmonic Motion podcast, James Dillon is discussing the Top Garage competition with current judges Ian Gilgrass and Glenn Cutter. Listen as they provide invaluable tips for garage owners on entering and being successful in the competition as well as advice surrounding training, marketing, succession, and business skills. Top Garage launched, is designed to highlight the UK's best garages and reward their efforts. In 2022, Top Service Advisor category was introduced as an award which forms an added element to the Top Garage competition, combining online questions and mystery shops in the hopes to seek our Top Service Advisor for the year. For those workshops that take part in Top Garage, the benefits are two-fold. Working through the online element of the competition, and then taking part in Top Garage's finals where garages face the judges can help them focus on what they are good at, and where the business needs improvement. Garages which make it to the finals receive recognition, which they can use in their marketing locally, giving the garage that much-needed edge over local competition. Taking part in Top Garage, or even better winning, can provide a unique selling point that is hard to match. https://www.aftermarketonline.net/news/fullstory.php/aid/7570/Top_Garage_2023.html Watch the video version of this episode and subscribe to the Harmonic Motion YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/QAnMYI3L-cc Get involved in the podcast and be the first to know about new episodes by joining the Harmonic Motion podcast Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/549573740317836/ Join the mailing list: https://techtopics.co.uk/mailing-list/ Watch: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/harmonic-motion/id1665148277 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3SzEMN08BU7wCSdB3xkXkH?si=4cdcbdc8ba704274 Amazon: https://music.amazon.co.uk/podcasts/364bf8fa-82b5-43e5-b227-ad9eb99e8fd3/harmonic-motion YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@theharmonicmotionpodcast Connect with us: Website: https://techtopics.co.uk/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/technical.topics.training/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tthq_techtopics/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/techtopics LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/technical-topics-ltd

How do astronauts weigh themselves in space? The answer to that question and more are in Episode 22. Because masses on springs oscillate, we start by relating the period of a spring to the factors affecting it. (1:16) Brief time is spent explaining the difference between period and frequency, and we define many of the key terms associated with the wave nature of oscillations. (2:43) The equation to find position of an oscillating object is provided and utilized to determine the velocity of the object for a given time and various other sinusoidal relationships are discussed as well. (4:27)The Question of the Day asks: (9:23)How can the period of mass on a spring be doubled?Thank you for listening to The APsolute RecAP: Physics 1 Edition!(AP is a registered trademark of the College Board and is not affiliated with The APsolute RecAP. The conical pendulum can be a tough topic. Mainly because it relies heavily on numerous past topics. In this episode we start by looking at the forces acting on the pendulum (1:10). Once you apply what you know about forces, you can use knowledge gained about circular motion (4:22). Of course, trigonometry makes its obligatory cameo, and we boil it all down to two simplified equations (5:45).The Question of the Day asks: (7:13)If a pendulum is relocated to a planet with one fourth the gravitational acceleration of Earth, how will the period of its rotation compare to on Earth?Thank you for listening to The APsolute RecAP: Physics 1 Edition!(AP is a registered trademark of the College Board and is not affiliated with The APsolute RecAP. In Episode 20, we are hanging around with a simple pendulum, and discussing just what makes a clock tick (0:36). While introducing the simple pendulum (1:04), we look at an experiment you can easily do from your own home with a string and a mass (1:33). What factors affect the motion of a pendulum (2:46)? You can test each one at home (4:42), but we let you in on all of the secrets eventually. Finally, conservation of energy has a cameo and we talk about find the velocity of a pendulum (7:01).The Question of the Day asks: (7:47)How long would a pendulum arm need to be to complete a tick or a tock every 1 second at sea level on Earth?Thank you for listening to The APsolute RecAP: Physics 1 Edition!(AP is a registered trademark of the College Board and is not affiliated with The APsolute RecAP. Learn Differential Equations: Up Close with Gilbert Strang and Cleve Moler
When the forcing is a sinusoidal input, like a cosine, one particular solution has the same form. But if the forcing frequency equals the natural frequency there is resonance.
We discuss the role problem solving plays in the scientific method. Then we focus on problems of simple harmonic motion ̶ harmonic oscillators with one degree of freedom in which damping (frictional or drag) forces can be ignored.
This PhysCast is about simple harmonic motion. A 0.12 kg body undergoes simple harmonic motion of amplitude 8.5 cm and a period of 0.20 s. (a) What is the magnitude of the maximum force acting on it? (b) If the oscillations are caused by a spring what is the spring constant?
This PhysCast deals with simple harmonic motion where dampening is present. The amplitude of a lightly damped oscillator decreases by 3.0% during each cycle. a) What percentage of the mechanical energy is lost in each cycle? b) What is the dampening coefficient for the 100 g mass if the cycle time is 1 sec?
This PhysCast explores the mathematics of simple harmonic motion.
This problem is about simple harmonic motion. A Grandfather clock contains a ball with a diameter of 5 cm suspended from a light, inextensible wire. A modern clock has a think metal rod instead of a ball and wire. Both clock tick when the pendulum reaches its maximum displacement. How long must the wire and rod be if the clocks are to tick ever second exactly?
Following on from a veteran in the previous episode, we now have a fresh-faced youngster pushing the wax for the 11th Avenue Red Podcast. From Derry, Northern Ireland we introduce 20 year-old Jordan Magee, who is a passionate DJ/vinyl collector and has played for various events in the UK and Ireland with his name sharing flyers with some very prominent DJ's including: Prosumer; Âme; Metro Area; Domenic Cappello; Gavin Herlihy and Move D among others. He is also busy cutting his teeth as a producer and is heading to Leeds in September to do the final year of his Music Technology course. Also keeping him busy is the Harmonic Motion project that he runs with some friends, which is a music blog and event based in Derry that kicks off on 15th March with guests Michael Bustard and Thomas Faulkner. Jordan plans for it to be developed further in Leeds, where there is of course a much broader scope for the project to gain momentum and attract larger audiences. We love this mix, it's a very tasteful selection of music that is deep, intricate, edgy and techy. A nice warm groove is sustained throughout the session and we love how it was recorded too... "I was mixing for over 3 hours and hit record to capture a 65 minute snippet of it. I caught my flow nicely! The mixing is genuine and not always completely perfect but that's the beauty of mixing with vinyl in my opinion and it gives a true representation of me as a DJ." This lecture continues the topic of harmonic motions. Problems are introduced and solved to explore various aspects of oscillation. The second half of the lecture is an introduction to the nature and behavior of waves. Both longitudinal and transverse waves are defined and explained.
The focus of the lecture is simple harmonic motion. Professor Shankar gives several examples of physical systems, such as a mass M attached to a spring, and explains what happens when such systems are disturbed. Amplitude, frequency and period of simple harmonic motion are also defined in the course of the lecture. Several problems are solved in order to demonstrate various cases of oscillation.
