I am Positively Glee Ridden to be speaking with my this weeks guest on Empowered Conversations, Heather Roberts!!!!Heather Roberts took the unconventional way to entrepreneurship. She was a stay-at-home mom for 14 years. Running the PTA, Summer Bible School, fundraising, co-writing a cookbook and not to mention toddler tantrums, taught her she could handle negotiating with any buyer anywhere, anyplace, anytime. It also gave her the foundation to co-found RSG Sales, an E-Commerce Account Management Firm for Home Decor and Furniture suppliers who sell to Wayfair, Overstock, HomeDepot.com, & other major e-commerce accounts. After spending 6 years building RSG Sales she had a realization. It was time to take everything she learned helping others grow their product business and do it for herself. In 2013 she founded E by Design, a decorative throw pillow company. Within two and a half years her company, E by Design, was a top 5 pillow supplier with Wayfair. The company was also featured in major publications and networks including House Beautiful, HGTV, Property Brothers and Coastal Living.  In 2019 Heather sold E by Design with a 7 figure plus exit.Since her exit from E by Design Heather has refocused her efforts on life's passion. Serving women who are juggling the growth of their own 7 figure business and raising their families. Women need to create space by maintaining boundaries, leverage our strengths, and support each other. Heather is also the author of The SPARK System, Conquer Today's E-Commerce Landscape the Right Way. She is currently working on her second book which examines the concept of creating space to grow, live, and profit by living a "boundary" filled life!

Welcome to Part II of Reading and Writing Through the Pandemic, a special episode of the Erotic Reading Room that addresses the impact Covid-19 is having on readers and writers. In Part I, we discussed the mental health impact with licensed therapist Anne Leggett, owner of Compass Point Therapy. In Part II, I'm talking the business impact on the romance genre with Heather Roberts, owner of L. Woods PR. This is a fascinating discussion you don't want to miss. This pandemic has changed everything. It's impacted our budget, our work productivity, and our strategies for buying and selling books. Heather provides tips on navigating the upheaval to our professional lives, and provides tips on how to stay competitive even when everything is turned upside down, even if we can't afford ad spend. We also talk about what the pandemic may mean long term. Will it change how we sell books, or even what we read and write? For authors considering professional services, L. Woods offers not just full-time professional guidance, but a la carte for those of us who have to watch our budgets. You can find here here: https://www.ellewoodspr.com One of my favorite parts of this podcast was discussing how the pandemic may shape our image of heroes and heroism. I only wish I'd found this article before I talked to Heather, because guess who's emerged as a sex symbol in erotic fan fic? Yeah, that's right. Dr. Fauci. Smart men as book boyfriends? Yes, please. https://www.cnet.com/news/dr-anthony-fauci-nominated-for-people-magazine-sexiest-man-alive-as-fauci-merch-abounds/ And because this is a genre-driven podcast, I didn't want to conclude the episode without spotlighting an author, so Part II concludes with an excerpt from a book you'll want to add to your lockdown reading list – Bulletproof Butterfly by Anna Brooks. The book is available in KU here: https://www.amazon.com/Bulletproof-Butterfly-Anna-Brooks-ebook/dp/B077G9BKJP --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/avasinclair/support

You may have noticed The Square took last month off, but we promise we were busy! In fact, we grabbed some live interviews from the Exhibit Hall of this year's Annual Conference & Exhibit in Dubuque and had some fun chatting with a bunch of great city officials from around the state. Give those a listen and enjoy some of the sounds from the luau-themed Exhibit Hall! We also review this year's League awards, which were presented during the Awards Banquet at the Annual Conference. We detail the All-Star Community Awards, Rhonda Wood Smith Award, Legislative Service Awards and our new Hall of Fame inductees. As always, we had some tremendous cities and individuals recognized this year for their outstanding contributions to their communities. This month's Your Questions Answered is a question on whether citizens can petition for a city code change in their community and our Get to Know Your League interview features Heather Roberts, the League's outstanding Director of Information Services. Learn a little about Heather, including how she got started at the League (just a few years ago) and what she likes to do in her free time (hint: she's a dog person!). We also cover last episode's trivia question, which asked where the Red Delicious apple originated (a surprisingly controversial answer to this one). And we offer some new trivia: what year did the League's Municipal Leadership Academy begin? Send your trivia answers, questions and feedback to thesquare@iowaleague.org!

This beautiful melody, written and played for us on the autoharp by Heather Roberts, must be one of the more unusual uses to which Robbie Burns' poem Red Red Rose'has ever been put . . . But since our purpose in releasing it now is to encourage us to pray around our homes, and it speaks of a 'melodie that's sweetly play'd in tune' let's go for it, and ask the Lord to fine tune anything that is out of kilter in our homes or households!
