Ever wondered if magic has the potential to modify reality physically? Could ritual objects or spiritual energy exposure imbue them with mystical properties? We unravel this complex topic, beginning with an exploration of magic's impact on reality. The focus is on whether objects like Excalibur and the Holy Grail become magical through belief or if they are imbued with power through rituals and spiritual energy. We also question how exposure to ritual objects and magical energies could alter one's reality perception. This discussion promises an insightful examination of whether our perceptions might be shaping our reality. Transitioning from the mystical to the educational, our conversation leads us into another intriguing topic - the teaching of adults. Our discussion covers the concept of 'un-teaching' and how it could potentially deepen understanding. But tread carefully; venturing too deeply into the spiritual realm may have its psychological consequences, a critical dimension we examine in this segment. We delve into effective strategies for teaching adults. Here we stress the importance of facilitating self-exploration, enabling individuals to question their beliefs and, ultimately, change their minds. We wrap up by underscoring the necessity for engaging debates and focused conversations, the tools that help reveal logical flaws and prompt a deeper understanding of our world. Walter Horn, an Army interrogator during WWWII discovers the location of the Crown Jewels of Austria while questioning a German soldier. A conversation with Lynn Jones (Florida State University) on how fragments of the True Cross were requested, gifted, traveled, repatriated, abducted, and returned in the early Byzantine period; how they were used to validate rival claims to power; and the anxiety caused by doubts over their authenticity. The conversation is based on a number of Lynn's publications, especially 'Perceptions of Byzantium: Radegund of Poitiers and Relics of the True Cross,' in L. Jones, ed., Byzantine Images and their Afterlives: Essays in Honor of Annemarie Weyl Carr (Ashgate 2014) 105-125.
Theories of the Knights Templar can be found anywhere from teachings of Christianity to Hollywood's Indiana Jones Trilogy. In this episode we separate fact from fiction.

Ever since the middle ages, pieces of the True Cross, and other relics such as saints' bones, have been sold to the gullible. But now the trade in bogus relics has moved online, to the fury of traditional Catholics. They are even more alarmed at the sale of "genuine" relics, which is also picking up pace as monasteries and convents close and their treasures come on the market. In theory selling a relic is an offence under Church law, warranting immediate excommunication. But what is a genuine relic, and how its provenance proved? Jolyon Jenkins goes on a deep dive into a world where faith, science and archaeology collide. Producer/Presenter: Jolyon Jenkins, BBC Audio in Bristol

This week we're discussing sacred and holy relics from history, including the hits like the Holy Grail, John the Baptist's Head(s?), and the Buddha's tooth. I'll be honest with you, this one is mostly just two gals nerding out about history and religion. It's a great time!

HERE - New Town, New Jerusalem with Raymond JohnstonGuest: Raymond Johnston, JournalistPrague's Nové Město (New Town) is only new in comparison to other parts of town. Founded by Emperor Charles IV in 1378, it was actually intended to be a substitute for Jerusalem - a place where the Second Coming could happen in comfort and style. Journalist Raymond Johnston talks about this as well as other interesting facts about New Town. We'll visit Karlovo náměstí, the holy relics that used to be there, Prague's mystical city plan, a pagan grove that's now a tram stop, a street that may be an accident and historical helmets, just to name a few items.SECTIONS01:49 - Charles IV's Plans for Prague's New Town as a Jerusalem Substitute, Karlovo náměstí as the Center, Home to a Lot of Holy Relics (including the Spear of Destiny)06:33 - Prague's Mystical City Plan09:31 - Former Pagan Sites Incorporated into New Town11:01 - Nekázanka Street, Wenceslas Square, the Statue of Wenceslas Music by Fanette RonjatFor events in Prague, go to the Facebook page The Prague Haps Follow us on social for extras:FacebookTwitterYouTubeInstagramOther Podcasts by Derek DeWittDIGITAL SIGNAGE DONE RIGHT - Winner of 2020 Communicator Award of Excellence for Podcasts Series-Corporate Communications and on numerous top 10 podcast lists. In episode 14 of the Holy Joes Podcast, we meet the man, the legend, that is Philip Scanlon or Scally as he is known in the streets of Limerick. We follow the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in Limerick and Derry on Facebook as they do amazing work throughout Ireland. A few months back we were struck about how one mans simple 'Hail Mary' changed his life and those around him.We get chatting and we are introduced to his amazing daughter 'Kayleigh' who has special needs/Autism and hear about how she brought him and the family to Jesus. Scally tells us about the car journey where he was going to hear Boyzone Celebrity Keith Duffy talk about Autism. His friend Jason encourages him to join him in the Rosary and maybe say a 'Hail Mary'......the rest is history.Scally shares his journey back to the church and a deep personal relationship with Jesus. Sickness in the family leads him to a 'Holy Relic' belonging to St Padre Pio, who had the stigmata of Christ and covered his hands with mitts with many miracles attributed t his intercession. One of these mitts touched Scally's wife and sons during illness, bringing healing, hope and a deeper relationship with Christ. In the Bible we hear about healing through 'Holy Relics', In 2 Kings 13:21 & Acts 5:15 & Acts 19:11-12 and they have played a significant role in bringing people closer to Christ. Now Scally prays with people with this relic and some people get healing but others lives are transformed by a deeper relationship with Jesus. Scally challenges listeners this week to say one 'Hail Mary' and wait for Mary to push you towards her Son, Jesus.St Padre Pio, Pray for us & St Joseph, Pray for us.

After a brief hiatus, the SaintCast returns with a tribute to the humble porter from Montreal, and Holy Cross Brother, Blessed Andre Bessette. We go over e-mail and audio feedback, including a question for Tom Serafin of the International Crusade for Holy Relics. We welcome a brief passage from the podcast "Meditations from Carmel," quoting St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. A new St. Jeopardy, a look at the Saints of the Week, and Paul is taken to task by a Brother of the Order of Hospitallers of St. John of God, all on this week's SaintCast.
Greetings from the City by the Bay, under the patronage of Saint Francis of Assisi. The SaintCast travels to San Francisco after the SaintCaster breaks a finger! Hear about St. Catherine of Siena, the Dominican stigmatic who helped bring the papacy back to Rome, the last holy men and women raised to the title Blessed last fall, and the next to be so honored in May. Why are relics often embedded in stones in the altars of the faithful? Tom Serafin from the Apostolate for Holy Relics answers this question and more. Plus our new St. Jeopardy quiz, and the answer to last weekâs phobia query. All this and the calendar of saints. . . Stay tuned for our first sound-seeing tours beginning next week. . .
In late April, 1918, Maximilian Kolbe was ordained a priest in the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. He then embarked on his mission as a Knight of the Immaculata. He consecrated his life to the Blessed Virgin and set out to convert the world. He founded a number of publications based in his first City of the Immaculata, Niepokalanow, in Poland. He traveled to Japan and India, and suffered greatly with tuberculosis. He lived a life of uncommon holiness, a truly saintly life, even before his famous martyrdom in a Nazi concentration camp. A review of his life, an interview with Thomas Serafin, President of the International Crusade for Holy Relics, and more . . .
