By choice, Mark Seven keeps a low profile. But the truth is, he is one of those low-key but influential characters you really should know. The Stockholm-based Brit is a busy record dealer and online store owner as well as DJ and producer with a penchant for timeless disco and house. He showcases this in his productions, but also via his much-loved Parkway and Parkwest labels which explore both the soulful and more punchy sides of disco and early house. Loosely defined by raw drums, sweet Italo melodies and hints of early garage, this work has made him a firm favourite of everyone from Hunee to Jamie Tiller to Eris Drew. After 30 years in the game, there aren't many aspects of house and disco he hasn't explored. All that feeds into his glorious mix for us, which is in celebration of the 10-year Parkway Records anniversary in mid-October. It is packed with happy, classy tunes and big vocals from across the ages. The crunchy drum textures and tinny melodies, warm basslines and infectious claps all transport you to a utopian dance floor packed with smiling faces and loose limbs. It's a life-affirming selection that will uplift and enrich your soul.

We meet Antal Heitlager, the founder of Rush Hour Records. Antal is obsessed with records – and in the 23 years since he started selling vinyl out of his university accommodation, he’s turned Rush Hour Records into one of Amsterdam’s most treasured dance institutions. His endless crate-digging has defined Rush Hour’s eclectic catalogue, where 80s coldwave and classic Chicago reissues sit alongside homegrown house from locals like Tom Trago and Hunee. In this episode Antal tells Chal how he’s kept his love of digging alive through thick and thin, traversing the shift to digital and surviving two bouts of cancer, to find that the best time for new music is always the present. Bside Incoming: Hannah D We are hoping you had a very Merry Christmas and that you're not missing a big festive party too much, because this week's guest has really got us itching to be back on the dance floor. She's a top class selector with a real passion for her local scene, born into a musical family with strong early influences, and always pushing herself down new and exciting avenues on her journey of musical discovery. We proudly present Hannah D. With a musical passion pumping through her veins Hannah is a longtime supporter of her thriving local music scene in Brisbane. From enthusiastic punter, to music journalist with 6AM AT THE GARAGE and the now-defunct Pulse Radio. She co-founded The Space Between Us with Emma Stevenson to promote local talent and friends from the scene before evolving the project into a well respected record label and artist management company. "The signing of all local acts did not happen consciously whatsoever - it came about purely from not feeling the need to branch further afield to hear great music” - Hannah D After several years of promoting the talent of her friends and putting the local artists of Brisbane onto the map, they returned the favour by inviting her to play the supporting slot with DJ Slyngshot… it must have gone well because she never looked back and is now considered up their with the city's best, having shared line-ups with the likes of Floating Points, Legowelt, Francis Inferno Orchestra, Octo Octa, Eris Drew and Hunee. This one is a very welcome return to an episode of strictly electronica, getting things moving with some italo and hip house, before settling in with progressive hypnotic house and extraterrestrial electro breaks. One of the more experienced members of New Delhi's all-femme collective Coven Code, the past year has seen Shireen gradually become a regular presence in the Delhi club circuit. It's an impressive feat, considering that she still holds down a full-time job as a senior consultant at a corporate firm, and more so because she manages to squeeze in practice sessions in most of her free time. Few of us have the time or mental bandwidth to pull that off, but not Shireen, who has been playing more and more gigs recently. Heavily influenced by the clubbing culture of the UK, Shireen's sets – just like Mix #168 – typically draw from various genres that fall under dance music, focusing primarily on house and techno, but reaching far and wide into UK garage, breakbeat, dubstep, and anything that falls under UK bass. It's easy to see these influences in Shireen's mix, which relies on tracks by stalwarts like Joy Orbison, Floating Points, Or:la, rRoxymore, Hunee, Octo Octa, Flava D and more to create an atmosphere that's part expressive, ambient and immersive, and part bangers. That's what makes it really suited for the dance floor – it draws you into a sensory experience, appealing to and enveloping both your mind and your body.

Constantly swimming in aural pleasures, you’ll either find Adi Toohey controlling the dancefloor from a Sydney DJ booth, presenting Saturday Sunset on FBi Radio, working in record stores or hosting parties with her Rimbombo crew. Now a graduate headliner, Toohey carved a name opening for the likes of Hunee, Young Marco, Bicep and The Black Madonna, playing Dark Mofo, Subsonic and Splendour in the Grass festivals and for interstate crews Club Coco, Lucid and A Love Supreme.
With a musical CV like that Adi seemed a natural choice to warm up the dance floor for our inaugural B3 event with Gerd Janson, Dj Koze and Charlotte de Witte. As expected, she delivered, and played a warm and inviting two hours which set the scene for an amazing night of music. We are very pleased to release Adi’s set from that night, and we are confident that this might just be your new favourite mix. @aditoohey ==================================================== Upcoming Novel events: Friday, Nov 23rd: Novel x Other People Pres. Issue 8 of the Fractal Club Podcast comes from an up and coming DJ who has recently caught our eye with a series of impressive mixtapes. Scott Johnstone, or Scud - is a Fife local, and has been seeking out the best parties in Scotland since he was 16. Drawing his influences from some of our countries most revered tastemakers, Scud counts the Firecracker Recordings Crew (Fudge Fingas / Linkwood / House of Traps), and J.D Twitch & J.G Wilkes of Optimo (Espacio) as his main inspirations, with records from International label's like Dekmantel, Smallville and Giegling featuring regularly in his record bag. In this mix, Scud brings together tracks from Hunee, D-IX, and our own resident duo Hi + Saberhägen to create a smooth, melodic and driving summer soundscape. Perfect for BBQ season. Enjoy!

With a seemingly inexhaustable desire to showcase new underground, electronic music our kindred Parisian friends Les Yeux Orange are the go to collective for checking out bleeding edge club sounds. A busy DJ schedule sees them ply this ethos across the live circuit while this year has naturally seen them launch their own label; the second release just out with delectable, Detroit inspired cuts from n.stal. Also worth seeking out is their edit based Good Plus imprint which has found its way into the bags of Hunee and Young Marco https://soundcloud.com/les-yeux-orange

Wild City Mix #097 comes from an enormously talented young producer and recent Red Bull Music Academy selectee – The Sine Painter. Jayanth Ramachandra has been on our radar since November 2014, when he innocuously contacted us on SoundCloud with two original productions. We saw promise in the relatively unknown young Bangalore based producer back then, and decided to feature his work under our ‘Dropbox Talents’ section. We weren’t the only one’s who saw something special. In the last few months, Jayanth R has created a space for himself in our forward thinking music community, making more music and performing in his hometown and recently in Delhi. The Sine Painter’s added another feather to his cap after the Red Bull Music Academy announced that he will the only Indian selected to be a part of their Class of 2015, set to take place in Paris in November. The achievement is especially admirable for someone with limited experience, and we hope that his example will push other young bedroom producers to not think twice and apply for the academy next year. We got in touch with the Sine Painter for Mix #097 and it goes without saying that he did not disappoint, stitching together a very contemporary electronic set that featured some of todays most forward thinking producers. Jayanth begins with his own mellow original production ‘Night Drive’ but quickens pace with Irish duo Bicep’s excellent (often described as “chirpy”) breakbeat number ‘Just’. There’s a healthy European (specifically German) tone to the whole thing, with appearances by Berlin’s Dave DK, and the consistently superior Hunee. Jayanth also bravely (and seamlessly) includes the 1979 track 'Hot Stuff' by Detroit funk and R&B act Raydio. The mix ends on an optimistic note with Lockha’s fresh new tune “Lawrence's Weird Joint”, which came out via Donkey Pitch earlier this month. Mix #097 is a breezy Sunday dance mix that you should listen to on a lively day surrounded with your favourite people. For the 23rd Avenue Red Podcast we present Manchester-based DJ Rikki Humphrey, a notorious crate digger and a stylistically diverse DJ who does not identify with genre boundaries when considering his musical selections. His taste for deep, underground House and Techno was founded on listening to old Radio One Essential Mixes and his instinctive ear for unearthing new musical sounds led him to start collecting records, purchase a pair of Technics 1210 mk2 decks and begin mixing. He has never looked back and he is now certifiably a true vinyl junkie. As well as hosting monthly online radio shows on The Underground Sessions and holding down residencies at Nest in Leeds, Studio 89 in Cardiff and Etc in Manchester, Rikki has also supported some of the finest underground DJs around, including the likes of Mike Huckaby, Italojohnson, Jeremy 'Underground Paris', Jay Daniel, Bicep, Maurice Fulton and Hunee. Rikki is also a very hard-working podcaster, dishing out tantalizing selections of wax to a wide range of respected labels including Feel My Bicep, Banoffee Pies, Roots For Bloom, City Fly and many more. Armed with a well-rounded musical exposure, saving to afford production equipment has become a priority for Rikki in recent months in order to capture the sounds and styles of records he has fallen in love with over the years. His aim is: "To create instinctive dance floor jams with a distinct electronic edge, which make your neck snap and your body jack... or to take you off the dancefloor altogether to somewhere completely different". He already has some very high quality tracks released on Hull's Freche Früchte Recordings, Dublin-based label Swink Music and also Danish label Two House Limited. With up-coming releases on a few different UK labels as well as a string of remixes in the pipeline, Rikki is certainly one to keep an eye out for! @slickyrik ===== No tracklist was provided for this mix, but do feel free to ask for track ID's in the comments.
