Starlight Thursdays Episode 257 Welcome MONUMENT to the series! Let's get a. Deeper look into this talented artist behind the mix with a short interview. How long have you been DJing? About 2 years Why did you get into it? I've been playing music and producing electronic music for many years, but only went to my first rave about 3 years ago and absolutely got hooked on house and techno. What events have you played? Pride and other events with Auntie E, RENDEZVOUS with 98 ROMANTIQUE, Daisy Chain Halloween with STICKSNSTONES and 98 Romantique, various other deep woods raves and parties around the Pacific Northwest. Where do you live (generally)? The Mission Valley, MT Where are you from originally? Born and raised here in MT, though i've lived all over. What inspires you to DJ? Nothing feels more beautiful to me than a room full of people dancing as hard as they possibly can- I jump at any chance i can find to contribute to what i think is a genuine biological, emotional, social, spiritual necessity. My goal in my sets is to get people out of their heads and into their emotional and physical bodies- to that end i tend to play fairly ecstatic, positive stuff most of time. What inspires you about electronic music culture? While every scene has its flaws, i do find EDM to be maximally inclusive, positive, and generative. What genres are in your mix? I'm not huge on knowing/understanding genre- what i know i respond to most are the torchy vocals of house, drums with a lot of low end and clatter, the textures of acid house, afrobeat, cumbia, baile funk, chicago and detroit house, and propulsive beats. Everything is permitted. A few words about your mix? This mix is basically a distillation of everything i've absorbed in the last year or so- still so much to discover and be inspired by! Who are some of the artists in your mix? Kerri Chandler, Dam Swindle, Leon Vynehall, Cinthie, bress underground, Voyeur For more MONUMENT check out https://soundcloud.com/jahsafe

This month's episode welcomes British producer Leon @Vynehall. After a start DJing around the UK, Leon's focus shifted to production as he released his debut EP Music for the Uninvited, and a widely acclaimed first album on Ninja Tune called Nothing in Still. Inspired by his grandparents emigration from the UK to New York, Nothing is Still also included a novella and a set of short films, an entire world crafted from the seed of the music. His second and much loved album Rare Forever, however, focused inwards, as Leon explored his own identity, capability, and ambition; although it lacks a traditional narrative, Leon himself became the protagonist. With Rare Forever as a jumping off point, Leon and I explore his journey in self-acceptance, his growth as an artist, and how to thrive from failure as well as success. ++ Music: "Duofade" - Leon Vynehall (2024) "Ecce! Starlight Thursdays Episode 201 welcome Pinedrops to the series! How long have you been DJing? Since the summer of ‘23 Why did you get into it? I got into DJing because I wanted to use it as a conduit to release and play my own tracks, as well as to inspire and encourage a positive and healthy club culture in my community. I'd say that getting people moving and dancing can bring people together, with the side effect of introducing them to new music and genres that they previously hadn't considered. What inspires you about electronic music culture? Electronic music, the way that I see it, is not only about dance, but is a way for artists to truly express themselves, and free themselves from the rigid boundaries set by the music industry at large. For our 176th show we welcome Al Zanders, a multifaceted artist hailing from the vibrant music scene of London. His musical journey is punctuated by his renowned edits and stellar productions, making waves with iconic labels like Phonica Records and Roy Davis Jr's Undaground Therapy Muzik. While Al is now based in London, his heart remains in Sheffield, where he operates his beloved label, A-Z Records. The reach of his music is far and wide, from the electrifying Dekmantel Boiler Room set by Midland to the eclectic soundscape of Gilles Peterson's 6 Music show. Renowned names like Leon Vynehall, Denis Sulta, and more have all featured his tracks in their playlists, solidifying Al's reputation as a go-to artist for genre-bending, dancefloor-igniting productions. In fact, his prowess as a producer was so undeniable that it prompted Roy Davis Jr to revive his classic Chicago label, Undaground Therapy Muzik, after 16 years, solely to release Al's 2018 Guidance EP. And the story continues, with Al's music slated for a comeback on the label in summer 2023, alongside a slew of edits and releases in both digital and vinyl formats. Notably, Al's track "Long Gone" has achieved over 3 million streams on Spotify, a testament to his growing influence in the industry. When it comes to his DJing, Al Zanders is all about fun, energy, and soul. Whether he's spinning tunes in an intimate Tokyo basement club, rocking the stage at a massive festival like Lost Village or Gotwood, where he's been hailed as a highlight, or gracing the decks of a renowned venue like XOYO, you can always count on Al to bridge the musical realms of deep, soulful house and disco from around the globe. His sets effortlessly traverse Italo, South African, Anatolian, American, and more, weaving a rich tapestry of sonic experiences. This uninhibited and in-the-moment approach to music is a homage to Sheffield, the city where Al first discovered his passion for DJing and fell in love with the art form. After a brief hiatus, Al is making a triumphant return in 2023 and beyond with an exciting lineup of back-to-back releases on various imprints, proving that he's just getting started on his musical journey. For his Bside Podcast Al Zanders treats us to some of his most cherished records from many genres. The first half hour consists of ambiant, funk and afrobeat, then he moves to all sorts of house music for the final hour. "Just be obsessed with music. Love it." The beloved London artist gives a masterclass on how to make it as a DJ and build a sustainable career. Alice Moxom—better known by her stage name, Moxie—started out as a radio DJ on Kiss FM and NTS before playing parties and touring full-time. Now she has a label and party series that she curates called On Loop, which has invited artists like Matthew Herbert, Josey Rebelle, Leon Vynehall, K-Hand and Joy Orbison, in venues across Europe and the UK. The key to her success, she says, is that she hasn't rushed anything in her career. "Your sound can evolve and you can change," she says. "If you're thinking about this as a real career, the [opportunities] will always come around." In this episode of Resident Advisor's Exchange—the second in a three-part masterclass series called Future Proof, a collaboration with Rhythm Section—co-host Bradley Zero says that Moxie is "one of the most organized and graceful DJs on the circuit." She reveals how she has steadily built a career from the ground up, detailing how she's developed a synergistic relationship with her booking agent; selectively chosen gigs and mix opportunities; maneuvered stylistically without confusing promoters; and cultivated lasting relationships with a team of people she trusts. Listen to the episode in full. This conversation was recorded live in December, and you can watch video shorts from the talk on YouTube. Welcome back to Thursday Morning Glory! This week, Sam brings Liam on for a fairly continuous mix, delving into the deeper side of electronic music. Today's guest deejay is Jon Solo, AKA Naneum. This is Jon's third time sharing a mix with us. I keep having Jon back because his mixes are like his own music: delicate, ephemeral, evoking rich and complex emotions. As I write this, it's another grey day in a month we in San Diego are now calling Greypril. Jon's mix is the perfect soundtrack for this morning. Everything in my neighborhood looks fragile in the cast of this grey illumination. Maybe Jon's playlist will provide you with your own moment of serenitiy and tranquil quality, a sonic escape to a peaceful and introspective space. Want to hear more music from Jon? You'll be delighted to learn that his new album, Ollopa Othello, will be released this July through Electrofone Music. Join us next week when our guest deejay will be Austin Hill. See you then. Zaltsman knows a thing or two about what sets off the dance floor. Whether it's behind the decks, in the studio or as a curator, the London-based artist has a knack for getting bodies moving. His own productions for the likes of Dansu Discs, Silver Bear and Cross Country are characterised by crisp percussion and infectious rhythms, plus he's a real dab hand at flipping a classic for the club. Over the last few years his music has been getting props left, right and centre, becoming a staple in the sets of DJs like Midland, Ben UFO and Moxie, and we imagine it'll be no different for his next release, You Fly, So Do We. The EP inaugurates the brand new label arm of his long running party series Emergency Room. Since 2017 they've been throwing events across London, Bristol and Brighton, inviting artists like Overmono, Call Super, Leon Vynehall and Eliza Rose to join them. He takes care of this week's Shine A Light On mix with a blend of shuffling, percussive, rhythmic delights that would set the off the dance.

I stumbled across this Resident Advisor article from Feb 21 today - https://ra.co/news/74673 - the premise being 'We compiled a playlist of 100 weird and wonderful interludes from electronic albums'. It stuck in my mind all day so i had to do a mix! I chose about 30 of the tracks from their playlists and added a few of my favourites. ps. a little cheeky to use RA's playlist image for my mix, so let me know if that's a problem! Lange her. Heute viel elektronische Musik. **Wo drehst du deine Scheiben in Tübingen? Mal sehen, was die Zukunft bringt. **Tracklist:** Beatrice Dillon - Workaround One - PAN Bergsonist - Amazon Snake Charming - Optimo Music Boof - Ana's F Is Chillin - Running Back Joe - Tail Lift - Hessle Audio Errorsmith & Marc Fell - Cuica Digitales - PAN DJML - DDD-2 - FTD Records I:Cube - Danse de Saint Guy - Versatile Il Quadro di Troisi - Raggio Verde - Raster Gil Scott-Heron - The Crutch - XL Recordings Andy Stott - Up the box - Modern Love Anthony Naples - Busy Signal - The Trilogy Tapes Kink - Perth (Chord Mix) - Running Back Perel - Projekt 3 - DFA Fatima Yamaha - What's a girl to do - Dekmantel Gunnar Hasalam - Garagnano - Long Island Electrical Systems Asa Moto - Play Time - Deewee Helena Hauff - Nothing Is What I Know - Ninja Tune Joy Orbison - Ellipsis (Head High Remix) - Hinge Finger Mombasa - Anson Edit - African Shakedown

It's OAF 16 and Dan and Tom are recording in the morning, which makes them surprisingly chatty. In new music releases, Dan is excited about Jessie Ware, Roisin Murphy and DJ Khaled, while Tom can't articulate how excited he is about Leon Vynehall's new album. In films Tom highlights where you can watch Oscar winner Chloé Zhao's first two films. He also likes the new Kevin Costner film, Let Him Go and he hasn't seen it but is going to watch The Dissident. There's also two more films that come highly recommended.Spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6BOVLLad2duA31cP98rcQy?si=caad7b8ddbf84e51Trailers:The Rider: https://youtu.be/xKzDpZVYhYYLet Him Go: https://youtu.be/bE8pwEF-3TIThe Dissident: https://youtu.be/2wnmC7uLTNQEighth Grade: https://youtu.be/y8lFgF_IjPwWaves: https://youtu.be/V5z3cr8AB5gAs always, thanks for listening. Sometimes a chance encounter has the ability to impact ones course, Music can be introductory, enlightening and a signal of friendship. A spontaneous email led to our introduction to Steve Hazard who then proceeded to share with us an other worldly assortment of sounds which he had recorded and posted for leisure online. He mixes a stunning blend of abstract electronics alongside beautiful soundscapes, warm enchanting eclecticism and all that exists between. He describes the mix below... "This deep mix of Ash Ra Tempel, Vangelis, Leon Vynehall, Laraaji, Baaba Mal, Don Cherry and Pulusha was inspired by a chance visit to an abandoned Ashram in Rishikesh, Northern India, in the Valley of the Saints at the foothills of the Himalayas. In 1968 The Beatles had been here attending an advanced Transcendental Meditation training session with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. As we explored the site we found small Deep Meditation caves and realised that this was where the Beatles wrote their acid opus, the White Album. Here on the banks of the Ganga, we had crossed a powerful psychedelic ley line."
