Punk house and techno from a modern Midwest icon. Every DJ has their own genesis story: a pivotal sound, a formative scene, a defining philosophy. Kiernan Laveaux is no different, yet her philosophy, rooted in psychedelia and experimentation, stands completely apart from her peers. Inspired by Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, and New Order, she came of age in Cleveland's acid house and queer party scenes, developing an ethos that constantly pushes dance music's limits. Her DJ style is scrambled (in the best way), with zany tricks like scratching, creative EQing and modulation. This approach reflects the Midwest's DIY tradition, where artists thrive in isolation and cultivate a radical disobedience, as seen in contemporaries like Eris Drew and ADAB. As Laveaux recounted in a 2023 interview with GROOVE Magazin, "Titonton Duvante once told me that being a Midwest DJ is about playing music from anywhere and making it sound like a piece of your spirit." Spanning two-and-a-half hours, Laveaux's RA Podcast showcases this spirit. It's a testament to her decade-long career, blending tracks from friends and cherished memories into a transcendent mix. It's "music to shake your hips to and decalcify your pineal gland." (For the curious, the pineal gland helps regulate your circadian rhythm.) RA.963 will make you dance and think in equal measure—a beautiful, restless and resolutely wicked journey through a singular imagination. @kiernan-laveaux Read more at ra.co/podcast/963
We trailed ‘big things coming' on our last episode, and would you look at that – the big thing has come. Or is available for pre-order, at least. That's right, it's our first ever book. Titled No Tags: Conversations on underground music culture and designed by All Purpose Studio, this hefty tome (350+ pages) compiles every interview to date on No Tags, edited transcripts of the best of Chal and Tom's non-guest conversations, and specially commissioned essays from four of our favourite writers and thinkers: Eris Drew, Chris Zaldua, Henry Bruce-Jones and Ray Philp. The book is available to pre-order now. We'll also be launching the book with our first live show in London on 3rd December, taking over Ridley Road Market Bar. On the night we've got Kode9 giving his new talk on Sonic Warfare for the first time in the UK, celebrating a new release of his seismic 2009 book about acoustic force and the ecology of fear. We'll also be recording a live episode of No Tags with everyone's favourite breakfast host Flo Dill, morning doyenne of NTS Radio. Plus we'll have music from Jennifer Walton – not only one of our favourite artists, but the wizard behind the No Tags theme tune. Entry is free, simply hit ‘Interested' on the event page. There is also a podcast this week. We introduce the book before getting into some of our favourite recent releases (The Cure, mediopicky, Dubbel Dutch and Toma Kami) and dissecting the long-awaited debut album by Two Shell. There's also some film chat (Lords of Dogtown, Kneecap, The Florida Project) and a debate over the key historical entries in the Florida Film canon. We are confident that No Tags is the only podcast where Toma Kami and Wild Things get discussed in the same breath – and if that doesn't count for something in 2024, what does? American artist Introspekt (@sageintrospekt) has a sound rooted in the darker side of UKG but comes at it from a unique perspective that incorporates elements of US garage and ballroom. The LA-born, NYC-based talent has now made her mark in Europe as a DJ and a producer on labels like Eris Drew and Octo Octa's T4T LUV NRG. Her style blends heavy basslines, diva vocals and well-crafted broken beats into something that harks back to the sounds that once came out of the likes of Paradise Garage and Club Zanzibar, always with a focus on bringing up her own community. She says that the idea behind this week's mix was "to take the listener on a journey through tech-garage sonics and intergalactic dancehall rhythms." Tracks of her own and those from Skream, Holloway, Hatcha, Phuturistix and many more all plot a line through earth-shatteringly heavy rhythms from across the past, present and future of garage, dubstep and bass. It's a mix aimed at both body and head from this formidable talent and is a great taste of what to expect from her when she plays Dekmantel Festival later in the year.
London-based DJ and producer and founder of Slump Recordings, Baby Rollén shares his ever-expanding sound. Encompasing influences throughout this mix from classic NY house to modern 4x4 weirdness. With releases on Futureboogie, Gestalt, Nick Höppner's Touch From A Distance, Semi Delicious and most recently a Mixmag pick of the year release ‘Automated Reply' on Not For You – has seen support for his records surge with supporters including the likes of – Eris Drew, Paramida, tINI, Enzo Siragusa and others. "I always want to challenge myself as a musician." The DJ, producer and T4T LUV NRG cofounder talks about her new live set and overcoming hearing loss live from MUTEK. Eris Drew is something of a mentor to many, including people she's never met. Her words on psychedelics, the ritual of dancing and other topics have become near-gospel for many fans, and it's always a treat to hear her speak on practically any topic. While many of her discussions veer towards the esoteric or spiritual, when it came time for our live RA Exchange at MUTEK, she wanted to get down to brass tacks about making and playing music. Ahead of the first North American performance of her stunning live show, Drew sat down with RA's music editor, Andrew Ryce. She spoke at length about her live show and DJing—including her old-school style of mixing she calls "riding the pitch"—and the trials and tribulations of proofing stages and booths for turntable use, hearing protection and more. She spoke with all the authority and feeling she usually does, with a deep, technical knowledge that makes this talk almost as much a tutorial as it was a conversation. Listen to the episode in full.
When DJs and producers @eris-drew and @octoocta first met, they felt an instant connection that has only grown over the years. Kindred spirits in both music and life, the pair released their first split EP entitled Devotion in 2018, sharing the same artistic values that make their music deeply moving in all senses of the word. Their DJ sets, meanwhile, light up the dancefloor — their back to backs can be as bombastic and high-energy as they are personal and emotive, speaking to a healing force that seems to drive all of their work. In this episode, we discuss their b2bs, their joint tour and label, @T4TLUVNRG, and their collaborative project Alchemical Sisters — the latest addition to a cosmic world in full colour. ++ Music: "Late Night Love" - Octo Octa (2023) "My Body is Powerful" - Octo Octa (2019) "Trans Love Vibration" - Eris Drew & Octo Octa (Eris Goes to Church) "A Howling Wind" - Eris Drew (2021) ++ Follow AIR Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_airpodcast/ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/airpodcast
One wouldn't usually place Indian artist's resurgent 80s hit 'Aaj Shanibaar' right next to works by British hip-hop group The Streets – but that is exactly what happens on Mumbai DJ-producer Himay's Wild City mix. The connecting thread is a no-frill embrace of house music in all its shade. To present that, Himay kicks things off with his usual fare of acid house with an unreleased original work that testifies to a level of simplicity and focus that mostly only a seasoned artist can achieve. The mix builds upon the classic analogue sounds gradually till we are dealing with some modern masters like Eris Drew and Omar Souleyman before ending upon two of 2022's biggest dance music hits like Eliza Rose and Interplanetary Criminal's 'B.O.T.A.' and Mella Dee's 'Love It Or Not' (ft. Infinite Coles). For more information and tracklisting: https://www.thewildcity.com/mixes/20339-wild-city-227-himay

Nearly 800 singers, producers, DJs, visual artists, and performers have come to have a chat on the show so far, sharing their experiences and unique perspectives on their lives as musicians. New York's dance music culture evolves every weekend. A constant wave of new collectives, promoters and artists, combined with a host of legacy names and an ever-growing batch of enthusiastic ravers, infuse the city with a vivacious energy that's hard to find elsewhere. This episode of Reflections, a series that digs deep into RA content, pays tribute to New York nightlife through three heartfelt anecdotes that capture the vibrancy of past and present communities. Taken from RA's new limited-edition book Sacred Spaces, each message focuses on special party moments. Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy describes her quest to seek spirituality and communal transcendence through music, focusing on her experiences at David Mancuso's seminal The Loft party. Sharon White, a veteran name in New York's clubbing history, recounts the night of her unexpected debut at The Saint, an East Village spot that operated during the 1980s. The impromptu set went until 2 PM in the afternoon, leading the way for White to become one of the top grossing DJs on The Saint's roster. Finally, RA's editor-in-chief Whitney Wei describes coming of age at Palisades, an intimate Bushwick venue that lasted only two years but considerably shaped her club experiences. Sacred Spaces, available for £29.99 via the RA Store, features 26 tributes to the dance by the likes of Kevin Saunderson, Róisín Murphy, Eris Drew and Octo Octa, among others.

Faranak Amidi, World Service radio presenter and women's affairs reporter, talks to DJ Eris Drew about how rave culture triggered massive changes in each of their lives. For Faranak, it meant rebelling against the strict culture of her home country of Iran, and finding a new life elsewhere. And for Eris, it meant even more profound questions about identity. But what is it about the "motherbeat", as Eris calls it, that makes it so powerful? Producer: Beth Sagar-Fenton

Leurs univers me parlent énormément.
Dónal presents a fifth instalment to the rough guide to the year in new music 2021. This leg of the journey starts with some instrumental wonders from Kuwait via Senegal before checking out some more DIY masterpieces from bedrooms in Brooklyn and Moscow. There's underground magic from the evergreen musical hotspots of Berlin and the East End of London as well as another slice of Canadian dance-floor heat from Eris Drew. There's also sublime lockdown music for strings made remotely by Kate Ellis and Laura Cannell across the Irish sea and sparkling new sounds to set the twilight reeling from Ghana and Florence Adooni. ///
Rave and house artist Eris Drew proves that she is the High Priestess of the Motherbeat on her debut LP Quivering In Time, released on her own T4T LUV NRG label. She talks with features co-director Mick R about the influence of Terence McKenna on her work, the magic and science behind dance music, and the importance that safety plays in clubs and at festivals. Quivering In Time is out on T4T LUV NRG. "There's something really magical about dance events. And the kinds of experiences I've had at some of them can only be described as life changing or mystical or spiritual on some level." - Eris Drew Production by Mick R. Photo Credit: Eris Drew.

By choice, Mark Seven keeps a low profile. But the truth is, he is one of those low-key but influential characters you really should know. The Stockholm-based Brit is a busy record dealer and online store owner as well as DJ and producer with a penchant for timeless disco and house. He showcases this in his productions, but also via his much-loved Parkway and Parkwest labels which explore both the soulful and more punchy sides of disco and early house. Loosely defined by raw drums, sweet Italo melodies and hints of early garage, this work has made him a firm favourite of everyone from Hunee to Jamie Tiller to Eris Drew. After 30 years in the game, there aren't many aspects of house and disco he hasn't explored. All that feeds into his glorious mix for us, which is in celebration of the 10-year Parkway Records anniversary in mid-October. It is packed with happy, classy tunes and big vocals from across the ages. The crunchy drum textures and tinny melodies, warm basslines and infectious claps all transport you to a utopian dance floor packed with smiling faces and loose limbs. It's a life-affirming selection that will uplift and enrich your soul.

We celebrate Music Life's 100th episode with some of the highlights from Episodes 50–100. Pop icon and previous Music Life host Melanie C is back to guide us through some of the show's biggest moments so far. So far in the series we've heard Hans Zimmer explain how he went from playing in a new wave pop band to composing for the biggest films in the world, Moonchild Sanelly on what she can't say in her music, David Byrne on the pressure to do something different, Kranium on how he made his best chorus, Eris Drew on the importance of positivity in dance music, Mykki Blanco on the role of resistance in their work, and Becky Hill on how to write the perfect hit. Throughout 50 episodes we've travelled the globe, learned the behind-the-scenes secrets that went into some of the world's biggest hits, and listened in to some of the most honest and surprising conversations in music. Here's to the next 50.
DJ and producer Eris Drew runs the T4T LUV NRG recording label with, her partner in music and life,Octo Octa. She regularly headlines clubs and festivals from P Bar to Glastonbury, she's had a Residency on BBC Radio 1, frequently tops the 'end of year' DJ Charts and graces the pages of all the big dance music publications Mixmag, DJ Mag, Resident Advisor and many others. In recent years Eris has had a meteoric rise to success and international acclaim, an experience that has coincided with her starting to live in her truth. We also discuss the power of music, community and dance as potentially unifying, healing and transformative cultural experiences. .Eris Resident Advisor Profile https://ra.co/dj/erisdrew/biographyT4T LUV NRG http://www.t4tluvnrg.com/Eris Insta / Twitter @erisdrew Bandcamp https://erisdrew.bandcamp.com/ Eris Motherbeat Interview: https://www.glamcult.com/uncategorized/rave-revolution-eris-drew-shares-the-motherbeat/Back 2 Life Insta: @Back2LifeMilly Chowles Insta /Twitter : @ Milly_on_Air_ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Bside Incoming: Hannah D We are hoping you had a very Merry Christmas and that you're not missing a big festive party too much, because this week's guest has really got us itching to be back on the dance floor. She's a top class selector with a real passion for her local scene, born into a musical family with strong early influences, and always pushing herself down new and exciting avenues on her journey of musical discovery. We proudly present Hannah D. With a musical passion pumping through her veins Hannah is a longtime supporter of her thriving local music scene in Brisbane. From enthusiastic punter, to music journalist with 6AM AT THE GARAGE and the now-defunct Pulse Radio. She co-founded The Space Between Us with Emma Stevenson to promote local talent and friends from the scene before evolving the project into a well respected record label and artist management company. "The signing of all local acts did not happen consciously whatsoever - it came about purely from not feeling the need to branch further afield to hear great music” - Hannah D After several years of promoting the talent of her friends and putting the local artists of Brisbane onto the map, they returned the favour by inviting her to play the supporting slot with DJ Slyngshot… it must have gone well because she never looked back and is now considered up their with the city's best, having shared line-ups with the likes of Floating Points, Legowelt, Francis Inferno Orchestra, Octo Octa, Eris Drew and Hunee. This one is a very welcome return to an episode of strictly electronica, getting things moving with some italo and hip house, before settling in with progressive hypnotic house and extraterrestrial electro breaks. Enjoy! LEZZER QUEST have been tearing up many of Scotland's most revered venues, earning them a spot in The List's Hot 100 of 2019, and a place on Sub Club's roster of residents. Being part of SYS and LQ has allowed Anna to play alongside some of the scene's biggest names...Eris Drew and Octo Octa, to name a couple. This mix is what Bside is all about; a biography of her favourite records from her formative years and the musical influences that brought Anna to where she is today. This is a true journey through the genres, some disco, trance, hard house, even a Kate Bush track, and a healthy dose of “face melters" that can "inject a a dose of energy' into any party. The last episode recorded live in Glasgow before lockdown, from the Palais de Danse Records shop on Sauchiehall Street, this one's sure to bring some love to your Queerantine. Taylor Bratches is a DJ, producer and writer based in New York. She curates the mix series Walking and Falling, an appendage of the Chicago-based DJ mentorship program for female and non-binary artists. As a lifelong poet and dancer, her relationship to rhythm is intimate and ever-evolving. Heavily influenced by artists like Erika, Patrick Russell, Eris Drew, Sassmouth, Abby Echiverri and Derek Plaslaiko, her sets aim to fuse genres and to move people physically and spiritually, creating an experience that is both terrestrial and extraterrestrial. She has an upcoming release on Enmossed and writes for Resident Advisor. artist statement: "This mix features selected tracks from Skee Mask, Somatic Responses, Objekt, Sam KDC, Yaleesa Hall, revlux, Alonzo, and others. It was made in ecstatic joy - I was jumping up and down and dancing in front of my CDJs while mixing. I improvised it in one take and lead with my intuition. Then I listened to it back and started to wonder: is it too intense? Too challenging? Too weird/psychotic? Too psychedelic? Too imperfect? Too emotional? Too dance-oriented? Too hybrid? Then I realized: this describes exactly who I am. So this mix not only represents what I'm drawn to currently, but me on some fundamental level." - Taylor Bratches
