In this fascinating conversation, Charlie shares his profound journey through music and mental health with Jayda. Talking about the incredible highs he's experienced as a DJ, but also the often unspoken harder parts of the industry, including the loneliness and depression he experienced. Diving deeper into his mental health, Charlie talks with Jayda about he was struggling the hardest at some of the most pivotal moments in his career, and how discovering running and yoga transformed his mental health. Jayda hears how the significant impact running had for Charlie, led him to found the urban running collective Run Dem Crew, to encourage more inner city Londoners to take up running. They talk about how running, movement and community are pillars of hope for them, internally and socially, as well as why Charlie works with disadvantaged communities, including in prisons, to share the practice of yoga with them, to help give hope and inner strength to those he feels needs it most. Charlie also expands on why yoga classes and wellness spaces must diversify, so people of all backgrounds can see themselves in the spaces and feel a sense of belonging and connection with wellness practice too. ****LABEL/COLLECTIF**** Sdban ultra https://www.sdbanrecords.com/ *** INFOS *** Futuristic Brussels based four-piece ECHT! are set to release their sophomore album ‘Sink-Along' on the 5th May via the groove-obsessed Sdban Ultra label. Receiving critical acclaim from the likes of Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio 6 Music) and Mixmag for their debut release ‘INWANE' (2021), ECHT! takes the best of Jonwayne, DJ Rashad, J Dilla, Ivy Lab, Tsuruda and Aphex Twin, resulting in an unrivalled sound. In a society geared almost exclusively toward the technological, ECHT! forges a different path, one that instead replaces the mechanical with the human. At the heart of their creative process made up of actual skin and bone, the influences of trap, bass music, jazz and hip-hop burst forth through their expert playing of instruments. ‘Sink-Along' showcases a rawer and more straight-forward approach than their debut. Whether on the bass-heavy opener 'Glide' or the beat-to-beat sounds of 'Cheesecake' and 'Bryan Brains', ECHT! confirms its taste for deep, dark beats pushed to the extreme. No one can remain indifferent. A more luminous universe is brought to the fore on the introspective ‘Vault-A' and 'Dawn In Duden' but at the core of ‘Sink-Along', the common denominator is a warm and organic groove, evident on the inventive 'Rouf-rouf' and 'Mtwk part2'. "For this album we wanted to make strong and opposite emotions coexist: a dark and intense apocalyptic tendency, and a life and dance impulse that runs through everything. A paradox that is reflected in the wordplay of the title 'Sink-Along'." Releasing their debut EP ‘DOUF' in 2019, the following year, ECHT! finished third in Red Bull Elektropedia's ‘Fresh on The Scene' category and the EP was nominated for ‘Best EP'. ECHT! released three sublime live studio sessions titled the BREWmixes in 2021, which received support from tastemakers including LEFTO, Worldwide FM and Belgian national radio station Studio Brussel (StuBru). Their debut album ‘INWANE' soon followed. Echt means ‘vrai de vrai' - ‘true' or ‘real' in brusseleir (Brabantian dialect of Brussels). The name is a direct reference to the fact that their sound transmission is ‘real', performed with conventional musical instruments as opposed to computer music which the production might suggest. It also relates to the fact that none of the members of the band are originally from Brussels – bassist Federico Pecoraro is from Italy, keyboardist Dorian Dumont is from France and drummer Martin Méreau and guitarist Florent Jeunieaux are both from the Mons region on Belgium. ***WEB/RS*** https://echt.bandcamp.com ***Track.ID*** https://www.radiocampus.fr/emission/campus-club-mixtapes ------------------------------------------------------ RADIO CAMPUS FRANCE Radio Campus France est le réseau des radios associatives, libres, étudiantes et locales fédérant 30 radios partout en France. Like most multi-genre music fans, London-based Ruby Savage approaches DJing through a wide-angle lens. Whether she's touring, playing her post-punk disco party, In Flames, or hosting her monthly show on NTS, the Amsterdam native opts for warm, bouncy tunes that traverse dub, jazz and '80s proto-house. As she once Mixmag, she isn't beat-matching but "heartbeat-matching." For her, a dance is a means to feeling the full spectrum of emotions in a healthy way. Years spent behind-the-scenes at influential institutions have added to her understanding of energy and flow. She's worked the counter at Honest Jon's Records, managed Theo Parrish's Sounds Signature label (plus created the Wildheart Recordings sister label) and Gilles Peterson's Brownswood imprint, in addition to helping the Worldwide FM don launch Arc Records. When she's not DJing, Savage is spearheading community initiatives like Don't Be A Creep, an educational platform about club safety, as well as Artist Recovery Club for creative growth among music-makers. For her RA podcast, the vinyl enthusiast crafted a house music odyssey through soul, disco and gospel-inflected cuts like "Glory" by Waajeed and Dames Brown. It's an uplifting excursion through joy, catharsis and self-affirmation, relayed straight from the heart. @kwasiba3000 Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/895

Telemakus, 22, is an Indian-American composer/pianist/producer/UC Davis student who has worked on numerous projects and recently put out his critically acclaimed album, The New Heritage. Listing Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Butcher Brown as influences, Telemakus aims to delve into the jazz fusion/funk and hip-hop sound. His music is modern, yet pays homage to the past. He grew up listening to jazz and hip-hop, and taught himself to play the piano and make beats. After honing his craft, he collaborated virtually during the pandemic to finish his album. It was never recorded in a studio, but instead was made through Zoom sessions, with individual parts sent back and forth online. His music, praised on Spotify, Apple Music, BBC 6 Music, Worldwide FM, The New York Times, and more, has amassed more than 2 million streams. Listen to this program over the air, via streaming on www.kdrt.org, via the show archives, or on most podcast apps under Listening Lyrics.
Astrofever Radio is a monthly Radio Show annexed to Astrofever Records, an independent record label from Casablanca, Morocco. The sound of Astrofever Radio stems from a broad musical palette, maintaining a wide spectrum and focusing on good music regardless of genres. Curated by Casablanca-born and based Producer, DJ, and label head Mouhcine Zouitina better known as @Polyswitch. Presenting emerging and established artists from Morocco and beyond via @Worldwide-fm. ___ *Guest Introduction: Glenn Astro is just one of multiple alter egos the Berlin-based producer and DJ carry for himself. Releases on labels such as @nowtermina @tartelet-records, @ninja-tune, and @wotnotmusic, several high-profile remixes, as well as contributions to the @resident-advisor, Solid Steel, and @dkmntl mix series, helped to heave his name to the public eye. Known for his chunky beats and fuzzy textures, Glenn Astro was a crucial figure in a new wave of electronic music producers setting trends between 2013 and 2015, leaving a distinctive signature on everything he touched. But Astro has quietly been crafting a new sound for himself. Sometimes taking detours, morphing into various band constellations, more alter egos, and experimenting with artist collaborations. Those years of reflection and artistic development have culminated in another facet of his already versatile sound palette that manifests in his productions and DJ sets. ___ *00:00:00 – 00:59:59 / Polyswitch 1– Jeremy - So Peaceful (Re-Ending) (Driftwood) 2– Alex Ho - TYFC (Music From Memory) 3– Marconi Union & Giorgio Li Calzi | Blue Lights (Music For Dreams) 4– Samuel Organ - Guidance (DMY) 5– Aardvarck - Buuv (Rush Hour) 6– Pharaohs - Beyond Within (100% Silk) 7– Ron Trent feat. In this episode I'm speaking with singer, songwriter, poet, lyricsit, musician, producer, selector, Worldwide FM radio host, Allysha Joy. Currently based in the UK, Allysha and I recently spoke at the start of a long list of her European touring dates to follow from her latest solo album Torn : Tonic on First Word Records. While happily based in the Northern hemisphere for the coming months, a full schedule of production sessions have been booked to work on more music. We spoke about gender politics in music, being supported by the UK music scene and how to avoid burnout while touring. Like many of his generation, @lefto Early Bird has gained a global following because of his radio shows. Broadcasting on the likes of Studio Brussel, Kiosk Radio and Worldwide FM from his base in Brussels, he's become a beacon of good taste whether dropping jazz, new beat, house or hip hop. He manages to make seemingly unrelated sounds make sense in the same context and is just as versatile in the DJ booths of Europe's best clubs and festivals. He plays for us at Dekmantel Selectors later this year and is sure to serve up one of his magic musical melting pots. This week's mix is just that, with a brilliantly broad selection of tracks from Sun Ra & His Arkestra, Kerri Chandler, Synkro and Kendrick Lamar just some of those he weaves in. It makes for something that manages to transport you to a sun-kissed beach, a prohibition-era speakeasy and then a boogie-fuelled dance floor in the blink of an eye. You are sure to be left wondering how on earth he does it all.
In this episode, taken from my pandemic archive of conversations, I'm speaking with Mexico born, Amsterdam based DJ, radio host, artist, composer, curator, Coco Maria aka Ana Lucia. We connected through the Radio alHara and Worldwide FM broadcasting partnership that commenced during 2020. Coco Maria's flagship morning show “Breakfast Club Coco” broadcasts on Mondays and Wednesdays on Giles Peterson's Worldwide FM which has amassed a global audience. Her childhood was surrounded by music and her passion for discovering and sharing high vibration music is very prominent. Widely recognised as a selectora of joyful, obscure gems and sunny rarities from far off places. Her signature expressions of sounds include jazz to samba, latin funk, cumbia, many Afro-Latin rhythms from South and Central America, Brazil, the Caribbean and beyond. Coco Maria tours many countries, sharing music at festivals, club nights and has worked on compilations and her own music productions. I loved going back to this conversation, Coco Maria and I spoke back in December of 2020, we discussed her studies in psychology and art therapy. Her realization of the importance of mental health in a music career. Her interest in understanding the impact of migration and her passion to develop as a broadcaster. After a small run of exalted singles and EPs, Polyswitch gravitates towards the full-length format with “PRAISE THE SUN“ a 13-track sonic testimonial showcasing his distinct sense of substantially blending a vibrant profusion of musical currents. Emanating from an expression of delight and adoration, “PRAISE THE SUN" can be used as a universal answer to questions like ‘What to do?' when there are no other solutions left. Reflecting the times, recorded during periods of duress and uncertainty, “PTS“ is a body of work conveying feelings of harmony, hope, love, and unity throughout 13 sublime musical works harkening back to the Jazz-funk fusion days with flavours of house, soul, hip-hop, and electronica mixed in. “PRAISE THE SUN" could very well be seen as a message of hope to a generation coming of age in a time of decay, collapse, institutional corruption, and societal change. Scheduled for release this month, Polyswitch shares a batch of his recent finds and go-to's that accompanied him navigating the process. ___ *00:00:00 – 02:00:00 / Polyswitch 1– Ahmad Jamal - Arabesque (Atlantic Jazz) 2– King Khan - Follow The Mantis (Ernest Jenning Record Co.) 3– Niko Tzoukmanis - Twinkle (Libreville Records) 4– Steve Bach - Rain Dance (Soundwings) 5– Cochemea - Al-Mu'tasim (Daptone) 6– Polyswitch - In Good Spirits (feat. @layla-rutherford has been on our radar for a while and finally played for us on the beach at Dekmantel Selectors in the summer. Her first EP came all the way back in 2014 and was an exemplary and delicate deep house offering co-produced by Floating Points. A year later, she returned the favour by providing vocals for his majestic Elaenia album. Since then she has been a regular on the likes of Worldwide FM and NTS with tasteful selections that cover downtempo, gospel, house and plenty in between. Layla recorded this week's all vinyl mix with two decks and an E&S mixer. It is a perfectly homely selection of soulful songs and gospel goodies interspersed with lo-fi rollers from Omar S, well swung US garage and funk nuggets from around the world. There is no formula and no predictable arc to this mix, just plenty of feel-good music served up with love. Perfect.

"Hiatus Kaiyote" are an Australian jazz/funk/neo soul band based out of Melbourne. The band is led by signer/guitarist Nai Palm (aka Naomi Saalfield). After going through the trauma of losing both her parents and being separated from her siblings in her early teenage years, Nai Palm decided to move to Melbourne by herself, without knowing anyone of having a place to live. It wasn't long before she stumbled by a local park, where she witnessed and eventually learnt the art of fire dancing. During this time she also continued to write and perform solo material at local music venues. It was at one of her solo performances that the other members of "Hiatus Kaiyote" first met her. After a year of hanging out, the quartet officially formed a band and self-produced their debut full length album "Tawk Tomahawk" in 2012.Their path since then has seen them tour the world, make new fans and connections within the industry, and put out further studio albums. In this episode Jay and Jesse discuss the bands history and spin some of their favorite tracks. To listen to the full episode, including the featured music, visit... signlradio.com"Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.https://www.signlradio.comhttps://www.instagram.com/signlradiohttps://www.twitter.com/signlradiohttps://www.facebook.com/signlradiohttps://www.mixcloud.com/signlhttps://open.spotify.com/user/96mhz6qfjoztxbl2dpm0uj903?si=aAZpsoEnRAKdx85kr1QWhg

Casablanca has been historically known as a global melting pot, a place where cultures intermingle and merge to new yields. As a beatmaker, this mark is boldly channeled in Saib's music. His creations showcase a worldly vibe, tied together with his distinct guitar playing which deftly keeps up with all the musical styles represented through his releases. Kühl have collectively produced an LP that explores a special musical territory, perfectly blurring the lines between North Africa and Europe, released in 2020 via @tru-thoughts, this melange of traditional Northern African Gnawa music and electronic sounds has led to a fascinating debut and otherwordly cross-cultural friction resulting in a 12 piece album encompassing deep vibes and unstoppable grooves, building a bridge from old to new. Growing up in Casablanca, it's during his years spent in the U.S. that his interest in early acid tracks and Detroit techno truly matured. Whether playing DJ sets or performing live, Kosh knows how to subtly jump through different genres. Versatility is in fact often said to be his trademark. His music delicately blends nasty acid basslines, frenetic breaks, and electro beats, as well as warm infused pads and fast-paced techno. After moving back to Casablanca in 2016, Kosh has been actively involved with the label @csvoyager alongside his longtime friends and music partners @drissbennis aka OCB and Jonas Bengio aka @vviewtifuljoe. In 2021, Kosh started his own self-releasing label called @convergencerec ___ Tracklist: *00:00:00 – 00:59:59 / Polyswitch 1– Mike Dean - The Fifth Day Part 1 (M.W.A) 2– Jaco Pastorius - Portrait Of Tracy (Epic) 3– Mansur Brown - It's My Time (Soulection) 4– Ghostface Killah & BADBADNOTGOOD - Nuggets of Wisdom (Lex Records) 5– Jahari Massamba Unit - Riesling pour Robert (Madlib Invazion) 6– Kourosh Yaghmaei - Leila (Now Again Records) 7– Surprise Chef - New Ferrari (College Of Knowledge) 8– Kaidi Tatham - DSXSWC (First Word) 9– Dale Jacobs - Loose Connection (Epic) 10– Drumfire - Biggabush (Comet Records) 11– Africa HiTech - Light the Way (Warp) 12– Faraji Heritage Experiment - Dreamers (feat Monk) (Cascade Records) 13– Mach-Hommy - The 26th Letter (Griselda Records) 14– Faraji Heritage Experiment - Grimzey (Cascade Records) 15– Omar-S - Second Life (Featuring John FM) (FXHE) *01:00:00 – 01:59:59 / Kosh 1–B12 - Nothing (Delsin Records) 2–Tracey - CLLMMM (Dial Records) 3–Toggle - Slashed Velvet (Rue de Plaisance) 4–4E - Warm Leatherette (was / is) 5–London Modular Alliance - Harnessed Black Holes (Applied Rhythmic Technology) 6–Donato Dozzy - K3 (Further Records) 7–Autechre - Lowride (Warp Records) 8–Anthony Shake Shakir - Lay Back (In the Cut) (Rush Hour Music) 9–Morgan Geist - You Don't See Me (Environ) 10–Polyswitch - Pluto, Love, Praxis (Astrofever Records) 11–Eddie C - In the Park (Endless Flight) 12–Monodeluxe - Just (Little Angel Records) 13–Move D - Soap Bubbles (Source Records) 14–Claro Intelecto - You Not Me (Ai Records) ___ *Polyswitch on the web: Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/polyswitch Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/polysw_tch/ Bandcamp: https://astrofeverinternational.bandcamp.com/ Mixcloud: https://www.mixcloud.com/polyswitch/ Spotify: http://bit.ly/polyswitch Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/artist/polyswitch/725374038 ___ *Kosh on the web: Soundcloud: @kosh212 Bandcamp: https://convergencerec.bandcamp.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kosh_212 Facebook: https://facebook.com/kosh212 *Convergence on the web: Soundcloud: @convergencerec Bandcamp: https://convergencerec.bandcamp.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/convergence_rec Facebook: https://facebook.com/convergencerec ___ *Follow us: Bandcamp: bit.ly/3jSuJMo Spotify: spoti.fi/32cy2bp Mixcloud: bit.ly/38b9iUx Instagram: bit.ly/3et6hjE Twitter: bit.ly/34WyHPH Facebook: bit.ly/3mXidwT https://astrofever.com/

Talent powerhouse- HAAi (Teneil) talks music, inspiration, plug-ins, giving back, dealing with self doubt, patience and more:) HAAi, aka Teneil Throssell, rose from the ashes of a disbanded psych band, where she was vocalist and guitar player and, inspired by a chance trip to Berghain, started DJing by digging into a wealth of music on the psychedelic spectrum from around the globe. Her Coconut Beats parties in Dalston led to shows on Rinse FM and Worldwide FM, and eventually to a prestigious residency at the London club Phonox where Throssell played Saturday nights for two years (up until autumn 2018), a rarity in the city's nightlife. This allowed her to gather a devoted audience for her selecting finesse and propulsive style. As her residency came to end, BBC Radio 1 broadcast her Essential Mix which went on to win the accolade of the Essential Mix of the Year. HAAi was then granted a monthly Radio 1 slot, which continues into 2020. The end of her residency at Phonox allowed HAAi to play shows and big festival stages all over the world, over the last year, HAAi has won over crowds at renowned events such as Sonar Festival and Glastonbury, been responsible for an incredibly memorable Boiler Room and found an ever-increasing fanbase internationally who have bought into her eclectic selections. HAAi's taste in music is unique and diverse, revelling in tracks full of intricate detail and character. Her sets are infused with heavy bass lines - from breaks to thumping techno - as well as all manner of percussive elements. A lover of heavy textures and extended, winding grooves her mixes bare the fingerprints of the psychedelic music that brought her to DJing; krautrock, African funk, Turkish and East Asian freakouts aide her in creating atmospheres of increasing intensity. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/undergroundwithnida0/message
