There was a headline in The Post: ‘Scathing survey results from teachers on NCEA level 1 roll out'. That was the headline. The story goes on: “A survey of teachers saw the vast majority indicate that the NCEA standards are poorly designed, changes have increased workloads, there's insufficient support from NZQA NCEA, and the provided exemplars often don't align with assessment specifications.” So legitimate concerns. Teachers have been dealing with massive changes of curriculum and it's no wonder that many of them have thrown in the towel. In fact, it's a wonder more of them haven't thrown in the towel. So, this government, the clear implication is, has stuffed up right? Scathing survey results from teachers on NCEA Level 1 rollout. That's very, very clear in the headline that the teachers are furious with this government, that is what the story implies. Education Minister Erica Stanford was on this morning talking to Heather du Plessis-Allan and she said no, the fault lies with the previous administration. “I get on very, very well with Chris Abercrombie and the PPTA. And to be fair to them, technically the grumblings that they're having at the moment is not with the curriculum, because there is no curriculum, it's with the NCEA changes to Level 1, and that is aimed at the previous government, and I agree wholeheartedly with them. “When I came into office last year I saw some results that showed that well over half of schools felt not prepared or only somewhat prepared for next year's Level 1. This is in November I saw this. And then I started fielding calls from principals and teachers saying we don't know what to teach next year because there are no subject learning outcomes, we don't have any exemplars. “So we had six weeks to scramble with the Subject Associations to write subject learning outcomes over Christmas — Associations did an amazing job— and push NZQA to get those exemplars ready, that weren't going to be ready till May. This was a disastrous rollout by the previous government of NCEA Level 1.” Who do we believe? I mean, there were massive changes to the curriculum under the previous administration, absolutely massive, and I do not blame teachers for being fed up. The coalition government said we are going to correct a lot of those changes, the curriculum that was being rolled out is going to be drawn back in and we're going to rewrite it and get back to the basics. There was very little guidance or support over the last six years, despite the huge numbers employed by the Ministry of Education. Remember the number of teachers employed by state schools rose by just over 5% from 2017 to 2022. In that same period, the number of full-time staff employed at the Ministry of Education rose by 55%. So the number of teachers actually at the coalface rose by 5%, the number of full-time staff at the Ministry of Education rose by 55%. There were 1700 more staff at the Ministry of Education than was employed in 2016, so they were undertaking huge projects. There was the building of classrooms, there was the new schools. Then there were the changes to the curriculum, and it was a seismic ideological change, incorporating Te ao Māori into mathematics and into science and there was all kinds of debate going on, ideological debate about the relevance. The Royal Academy of Mathematics was, I think, furious. Not just sad, but furious. Te ao Maori has its place they said, in maths? No, no, no. Maths is maths, it's its own language. So you have all of these people and the Ministry of Education, each with their own reckon and galloping along on their ideological stallion taking education in one direction. You had consultants up the ying yang, you had ten consulting firms that relied completely and utterly on the Ministry of Education for their funding, while they came up with their own reckons as well, they galloped off on their ideological stallions. In came the coalition government who went whoa, come on, Tonto. No, we're pulling you in, come back - herded all the ideological stallions back into the paddock and then said right, we're getting on Dobbin the old cart horse and we're going to trudge along the field, and we're going to plough basic maths, and basic science, and basic English into our kids, this is what they need to learn to get them up the international standards. And the teachers, they've been on the galloping horses. They've been going there and here and everywhere, and now they're back wondering what the hell was that? No wonder they need teacher only days. I hope the teacher only days involve lying on couches and having soothing compresses placed on their foreheads because they have been through a lot. It's only when you go back and look through the proposed curriculum that was being laid out, especially under Chris Hipkins, as Minister of Education and then when he was Prime Minister, they were extraordinary. And there simply wasn't any underpinning to them to allow the teachers to teach. So, they were given these ideological concepts and very much left to their own devices to come up with their own kind of underpinning to teach it. And now it's all changed again. If the teachers are confused, I'm not at all surprised. I don't know how you make this better and ultimately. You know, and I know that it's the kids who are suffering because it's you and I who are paying for the extra classes after school. Paying through the nose, finding money you don't have to shore up gaps in the knowledge because it's not the teachers. The ideologues are the ones responsible for the mess that education is in. The second episode of our mega series exploring the Marxist destruction of Indian History begins with the steady rise of ideologues who rewrote Indian history to force-fit it into the Marxist theoretical framework. These ideologues primarily hailed from the Aligarh Muslim University and intersected with the Marxists. This episode traces the downfall of history writing in India, which happened in four or five phases. History writing, which began as a sincere and honest quest for historical truth was eventually hijacked by Marxists who used it as a vehicle to propagate the Communist ideology which has killed the maximum number of people in a single century. After India got independence, the Marxists got their prized puppet in the form of Jawaharlal Nehru, who promoted them on a prolific scale. Do listen to the whole podcast that provides priceless insights and rare anecdotes not found in the usual mainstream narratives on the subject. With President Biden going viral this week for his striking comments regarding airstrikes in Yemen, we ponder what it means for leaders who routinely make their decisions based on their ideologies or beliefs. What motivates them and what is the impact they create? How do they learn from their failures, and if they don't why? And with continuous improvement being a key tenet of Agile leadership, we discuss how leaders can make better decisions. To do that we take a deep dive into the work of two professors from Stanford who've written not only a book, but research on the the state of decision making today. As ever plenty to discuss, share and ponder over. Explosions are everywhere. And that makes it VERY much a time to stay vigilant. More than any other time in recent memory. Israel is at war with Hamas. Explosions from the ATACMS (The Army Tactical Missile System) fired by Ukrainian forces hitting Russian forces inside Ukraine. Explosions at the Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City. Which was originally blamed on Israel–and is now likely to have been caused by Hamas. And American troops were hit by drones in Iraq. WTF?!?! It feels like there are explosions happening all over the world. And that's true. Including here at home, where there are daily political explosions. Barrage after barrage of explosions blowing up our politics. Led not by rocket attacks, but by political attacks from by radical political suicide bombers. Ideologues who wanna blow it all up in support of their radical agenda. That's why we have no Speaker of the house for two weeks and counting. And our host, Army veteran, author, professor and national security and politics analyst Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) is breaking it all down, laying out what's next, ripping into what's most important, and issuing a call to action. This is a special episode to respond to the moment that has all our heads spinning. And another insightful and rapid-fire episode of the best independent politics, news and culture show in America. Arsene Wenger has often been hailed as a visionary, a man who changed Premier League football for the better. But the Frenchman never lifted Europe's grandest prize. Even Pep Guardiola has been labelled as the father of modern football tactics but has failed in the UEFA Champions League for twelve years now. Yet, coaches like Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, who have been criticised in the past for their approaches to football, have been far more successful on the continental stage. But can the same be said for domestic competitions? Are adaptable tacticians more successful than philosophy-driven ideologues? In the latest episode of the TFA Podcast, host Adam Scully is joined by Coach Scott Martin as Scott dissects his latest magazine piece titled, “Ideologues vs Tacticians: The battle for domestic and continental titles,” whereby he analyses 15 years' worth of data to decipher whether adaptable tacticians are more successful than the Wenger's of the football world. The data will shock you! Please leave a five-star rating on the podcast if you enjoyed!

Trump has actually been indicted, and to no one's surprise has pleaded not guilty on 34 counts of felony "bad book keeping". Meaning now Americans have changed their expertise of the month to "Legal Theory" and "Grand Jury Power". Is Trump guilty of a fraud crime here? Almost certainly, yes. Is it also a flimsy felony case that galvanizes his base and degrades the integrity of more serious cases in the near future? I'm unsure how metro Augusta conservatives think their poorly-contrived de-annexation idea will fare better under the Gold Dome, but bless those idiots for dreaming. Speaking of, finally some hard data on public opinion and - lo and behold - the PEOPLE of Buckhead didn't want to leave Atlanta OR form their own city - oh and "cop city" isn't at or above 50% with respondents, either. Oops. Our buddy Jay Bookman stings the latest school voucher bill with a steady dose of reality. Confession: I've long been drawn to smart, driven women, and I'm keeping my eye on Dr. Michelle Au - and Stacey Abrams, too - for 2026. Hear me out.

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Always know where your abstractions break, published by lsusr on November 27, 2022 on LessWrong. General relativity plus quantum field theory can describe almost everything in the universe. There are a few exceptions like cosmic expansion and black holes but to human beings confined to a single solar system, fundamental physics is (for all practical purposes) a solved problem. Yet there are many things we don't know. It's as if the universe were a game of chess; we've learned the basic rules but are still figuring out the strategies. All the universe cares about is fundamental physics. The universe always obeys the small-scale fundamental laws of physics. The universe never does anything else. It doesn't care about evolution or chemistry or orbital mechanics or beauty. All of those things are high-level abstractions we (or evolution) invented to make sense of the world. Most of the time we think about how the world works we don't think about fundamental physics. We use our higher-level abstractions instead. Which is fine.most of the time. The problem is that any theory other than "the universe always obeys the fundamental laws of physics" is wrong in the sense that it is not perfectly generalizable. There are many ways abstractions can malfunction when misapplied. All abstractions have limited domains of applicability. Modern political ideologies—Marxist revolutionary theory, libertarianism, feminism—were invented in the context of an industrial civilization. Try too hard to apply these ideas to New Guinean hunter-gatherers or to medieval Japan and they'll cloud your ability to understand what's actually going on. All high-level abstractions are, ultimately, probabilistic. Statistical mechanics almost always works. Almost. Perhaps most importantly, "the concepts we use in everyday life are fuzzy, and break down if pushed too hard". Even Newton's Laws of Motion break when you apply them to too small of a scale. Even general relativity and quantum field theory are not not universally generalizable. General relativity breaks on small-scale phenomena. Quantum field theory breaks on large-scale phenomena. Postmodernists use the idea of leaky abstractions to dismiss the idea of objective truth entirely. That's like driving your car into the ocean and then declaring that cars don't work. Cars do work, but you need to take care of yours and drive it only on the terrain it functions on. The most dangerous philosophers aren't the postmodernists who believe nothing is true. The most dangerous philosophers are the ideologues who believe their particular ideology is true. There is nothing wrong with believing true things are true. One absolutely should believe true things are true. The problem with ideologues is that they believe their personal ideology is absolutely true. If you believe an ideology—any ideology—is absolutely true then you are wrong because high-level abstractions are always imperfect models of reality. Ideologues' tools malfunction because ideologues don't know the limits of their own tools. They aren't even aware their tools have limits. Those who understand ideologies' limits aren't ideologues. Every idea has a domain it can be applied to, beyond which the idea will malfunction. If you don't understand an idea's limitations then you don't understand that idea. Thanks for listening. Bryan Caplan is a professor of economics at George Mason University, a visiting senior scholar at the University of Texas at Austin, and the author of several books, including The Myth of the Rational Voter and The Case Against Education. He returns to the podcast to talk about his two new collections of essays released as books, Labor Econ Versus the World: Essays on the World's Greatest Market and How Evil Are Politicians?: Essays on Demagoguery. The conversation centers around how much Richard and Bryan have in common when it comes to how they think through social and political issues, with a focus on Social Desirability Bias as a major hindrance to engaging in moral reasoning and discovering truth. Topics include: How little effort most people put towards developing their most cherished political views Why most politicians should be considered bad people Why the first world poor can be considered morally blameworthy, particularly compared to those who live in developing countries The demagoguery of feel-good policy ideas like raising the minimum wage Bryan gives a teaser of his next collection of essays that will be released under the title Don't Be a Feminist: Essays on Genuine Justice, discussing why, as the title suggests, he hopes his daughter does not become a feminist and turn against him. The conversation concludes with reflections on how podcasting and Substack have disrupted legacy media, and why that's good for independent writers and journalists. Much of the freakout about Elon Musk buying Twitter is based on an assumption that social media is integral to democracies and a critical tool for dissidents living in repressive regimes. But what if that assumption is overblown? Are the dustups over Twitter's new ownership really just a proxy war for the broader freedom of speech debate that has been ratcheting up recently? Just as Elon was talking up Twitter, Barack Obama gave a major address calling for government regulation of social media platforms to curb "misinformation." Here, then, are two contrasting visions that speak to essential differences over freedom and truth—and who determines what constitutes truth in the first place. In Part 2 of the conversation, available here for subscribers, Shadi and Damir debate whether low information or high information voters are better for democracy. Ordinary voters say they believe in crazy things, but in their day-to-day lives don't behave as if they believe. Ideologues, on the other hand, tend to be well-educated, so clearly better education or information isn't the answer. But then what is? In our previous episode with Wokal Distance, Wokal Distance explained the underpinnings of woke ideology, including its assertions that there is no absolute truth and that all claims to truth are warped by power. Now in part two, he breaks down the concept of intersectionality and how woke ideologues rig the rules of debate. “They're not going to give you a fair hearing, according to your ideas. They're going to play power games with you,” he says. “When we speak, these critical theorists are not asking whether or not what we are saying is true. What they're doing is focusing on who gets power, whose interests are served, and who benefits. And that is what they do with everything.” Wokal Distance is an expert in postmodernism and critical theory, and a visiting fellow at the Center for Renewing America. Enough is enough. For the last several years, our bureaucracy has been weaponized for political purposes, and the impacts are having a real effect. Trust in the American government is at an all-time low. Americans no longer have faith in once revered institutions, and the system is beginning to buckle. Ideologues are in full control and make decisions based on political calculations as opposed to doing what is in the best interests of the United States, but more importantly, We the People. When John McWhorter, professor of Linguistics and American Studies at Columbia, described antiracism as America's ‘new flawed religion' in 2015, few could have imagined just how prescient that description would prove to be. Just this week, the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi thanked George Floyd for “sacrificing his life for justice” while CEOs, celebrities, and other politicians all made versions of the same promise: the work was not done.McWhorter, author of the upcoming book ‘Nine Nasty Words' does not count himself as a follower of this new religion. does not count himself as a follower of this new religion. In fact, the professor has become one of its fiercest critics, tirelessly deconstructing the latest example of ‘woke craziness' to illustrate its incoherence. With that in mind, we thought it was essential to get John's opinion on the Derek Chauvin verdict and his thoughts on race relations in America more generally. We really enjoyed speaking to John and thank him for his time.On the Derek Chauvin conviction: 'There is a sense in America that what this verdict was about was black people being killed by the cops. I see it as a victory about people being killed by the cops. And if it has to be a black case that galvanises change under that misconception, well, life isn't perfect. But I am very happy about what happened to that man. And I'm very sad about what happened to George Floyd. But I'm equally sad about what happened to Tony Timpa, which was very similar, and Tony Timpa was very white, and it was only four years ago, and no one heard about it.' Did he get a fair trial?: 'If fairness requires a certain fear of the streets erupting — that's not the way I would choreograph it — but maybe sometimes you have to break some eggs to make an omelette. The cop problem is real partly for a human, not race, reason….I think it's a misperception that the cops are uniquely against black people, and that is the main obstacle to getting past race in the United States.' Is antiracism a religion?: 'It's a religion — any martial anthropologist would recognise it as such. One of the oddest things is to see mathematicians and philosophers who've made their way through Plato, Kant and Kierkegaard, and then all of a sudden when they're reasoning about Black Lives Matter, they exhibit the reasoning power of roughly an orangutan. Suddenly that's considered sophisticated.' Giving up on the true believers: 'You can't engage people like that… There is nothing you can do to talk somebody out of a religion. There's no conversation to be had, it's worthless. Some of them will say they want to have a conversation with you. But what they want is for you to learn from them. If there's anything that they have to learn from you, it's that they want to learn what your mental barriers are to understanding their truth.' His advice to white people: 'A lot of people need to have a little bit more of a backbone, and understand that this person who's sitting there looking over their copy of “How To Be An Anti-Racist” and telling you that you're a racist, let them. And then walk on because the world will keep spinning and you will keep existing. I think some white people need to have the courage of their convictions even about this thing called the race thing. And just say, “No, I'm not a racist. Maybe you are. And let's now talk about football”. That we need more of.' On the elitism of antiracism: 'If you're somebody who is more familiar with struggle or you have a kid in a bad school or you know what it's like to live in a bad neighbourhood. In a way, this sort of thinking [antiracism] is going to be less congenial. And many people would say, “Well, it's because you're a racist”. No, it's it's not that. It's that there is a certain luxury in thinking of black people in these abstractions.' On Ta-Nehisi Coates: 'There is a certain kind of person who builds their sense of significance in society on a victim role. A person can do that of any colour. It's a personality type. With black Americans, one way that you do that is to focus on your victimhood or your people's victimhood, at the hands of whites. It's not that there isn't racism. But the idea that what makes you special is your victimhood status in comparison to whites, that can become who you are. Coates is a good writer, but Coates is that kind of person.' On the n-word: 'I feel that it casts black people as hothouse flowers to a degree that I find condescending. And that's not to say that people are supposed to run around using the word. But I think America had it about right as recently as about 1995. And since then, we've started to treat it in a way that I'm not sure was very productive. But that's just me.' Under the Janus moon of this very annum, I renounced my allegiance to the Conservative party.Erroneously, I logicked ‘t’was the caprices of the Tories that contrived the unique architecture what engendered my senescent mate being hospitalised. I allowed petty animus and a sense of private betrayal to cloud my reasoning. Now allow me to concisely explain why and how receipt of my first jab is not the exclusive engine of rotation. My blinders are roundly doffed. It would be abusive of you and fair game for me to point out that I have been somewhat “cruising” of late. I have delegated podcast administration to those what it doth feature, contenting myself as a “blurbist.” No more. This episode of the Funfiltered podcast dodders at 207 minutes. Most nauseatingly, this is hardly a galling aberration. Indulgence hath become… I want to say Stan and Gordon’s… defining trope. What’s more, they have perpetrated yet further technical bunglage.Always has it been that liberals formulate ideas and conservatives realise them. I am perhaps certainly one of the few who can perambulate ‘bout both hemispheres. Nevertheless, it is imperative that I reaffirm and re-exemplify my natural conservatism, that I uniquely occupy the RIGHT. For the FF podcast has become Exhibit A of what can happen when the liberal mindset manoeuvres unmonitored. Well, Exhibit B after Bristol.I have rested on my notional laurels. A firmer hand is needed. And that hand will be MINE.I am not, contrary to household suggestion, re-dedicating myself to prove something to Pfidze. Keep planning your accursed nuptials, you parazitas!

FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai has released a statement following the Digital Twin Towers strike on American free speech yesterday. Twitter et al have pulled out all the stops to discriminate against the Right and to use illegal means to drag Sleepy Joe Biden over the finish line. EPIC FAIL The Satanists of Silicon Valley have used Bill Clinton's Section 230 to cloak themselves in invincibility pretending to be mere platforms for content, when they are blatant Leftist shills, making them publishers, and subject to prosecution for violating the law. The Hunter Biden materials retrieved and revealed from his abandoned laptop is just the tip of the iceberg, more coming daily. China owns The Biden Crime Family, and if Joe is elected, they will collect on their investment BIG TIME. The FBI has been hiding that laptop for almost a year, and threatened the PC repair guy if he were to talk. I have been banging on about this for years. A new report from the New Zealand Initiative backs up everything I've ever thought of about our education system. What it says is that New Zealand's education system is a mess, riddled with unscientific ideas and seduced by child-centred orthodoxy, according to the new research.Amen. I have said that before but not as eloquently.Falling from its height as the envy of the world just twenty years ago, the Ministry of Education has let New Zealand's education system unravel by turning the focus away from teaching knowledge and on to 21st-century “competencies.”Author Briar Lipson outlined just what's gone wrong in the Mike Hosking Breakfast this morning. She said that New Zealand has gone from being the envy to“Our 15year olds perform the way 13 ½ year olds did in maths 20 years ago.”Lipson says that the pendulum has swung too far to letting kids have more of a say in their education, while other countries have realised their mistakes.“We're just gone too far in the other direction,” she says. This is everything I've always thought. There was a time when a child could come into New Zealand's education system and it wouldn't matter where they were in the country or how poorly prepared they were when they came into the new entrants - they had a chance. Education was a way up and a way out.A New Zealand education could set a child up for life. I know of so many scientists and artists and writers who came from tiny rural schools who were inspired by their teachers, who didn't just believe they could foot it amongst the best in the world, they actually could. I have been appalled at education being hijacked by ideologues - education shouldn't be about fashion. It shouldn't be about academics egos, fighting to get their particular view entrenched in the education system. It should never be about the subject of competing theories. You don't have fashions in medicine. You have advances - but you don't have fashions. Medicine too isn't patient led. It's about best practice. And that's what education should be about.

Enough said. • The state of the economy (as we do every week) • Politics and Money (as we also do every week, even when it hurts) • … and so much more With our thinking caps on, let's jump in to the Dividend Cafe! 111 – Welcome Republic Keeper Podcast 866-988-8311 info@republickeeper.com Conspiracy Theories 666 Microchips DNA alteration Millennial Millie Weaver Nick Cave on Cancel Culture. What do you think of cancel culture? Mercy is a value that should be at the heart of any functioning and tolerant society. Mercy ultimately acknowledges that we are all imperfect and in doing so allows us the oxygen to breathe — to feel protected within a society, through our mutual fallibility. Without mercy a society loses its soul, and devours itself. Mercy allows us the ability to engage openly in free-ranging conversation — an expansion of collective discovery toward a common good. If mercy is our guide we have a safety net of mutual consideration, and we can, to quote Oscar Wilde, “play gracefully with ideas.” Yet mercy is not a given. It is a value we must nurture and aspire to. Tolerance allows the spirit of enquiry the confidence to roam freely, to make mistakes, to self-correct, to be bold, to dare to doubt and in the process to chance upon new and more advanced ideas. Without mercy society grows inflexible, fearful, vindictive and humourless. Frances, you’ve asked about cancel culture. As far as I can see, cancel culture is mercy’s antithesis. Political correctness has grown to become the unhappiest religion in the world. Its once honourable attempt to reimagine our society in a more equitable way now embodies all the worst aspects that religion has to offer (and none of the beauty) — moral certainty and self-righteousness shorn even of the capacity for redemption. It has become quite literally, bad religion run amuck. Cancel culture’s refusal to engage with uncomfortable ideas has an asphyxiating effect on the creative soul of a society. Compassion is the primary experience — the heart event — out of which emerges the genius and generosity of the imagination. Creativity is an act of love that can knock up against our most foundational beliefs, and in doing so brings forth fresh ways of seeing the world. This is both the function and glory of art and ideas. A force that finds its meaning in the cancellation of these difficult ideas hampers the creative spirit of a society and strikes at the complex and diverse nature of its culture. But this is where we are. We are a culture in transition, and it may be that we are heading toward a more equal society — I don’t know — but what essential values will we forfeit in the process? Biden- Harris – Nanny state nightmare Mandatory everything Democrats are losing it. Pressley – Joy Reid – Unrest in the streets. "There needs to be unrest in the streets for as long as there’s unrest in our lives." Tell me which “red” city or state this is happening in? Exactly. The very places that democrats depend on for their support They are destroying their base. Biden has next to no volunteers on the ground. The Trump team is knocking on a million doors a week. Trump is distracting all of you with his complaints about the post office. Democrats are committed to imploding their party. They think that the reason they didn’t win on 2016 is that they weren’t far enough left. Their entire political philosophy is based on polls. Trumps is based on people and common sense. The polls say “most americans support medicare” But that’s the wrong question. Would you trade what you have now for a DMV like experience that costs more with worse care, but would cover your neighbor? Approval and right track/wrong track questions are plagued by this too. Ideologues are always blinded. Always They always make a couple of mistakes. They assume others think like they do. They ignore their own biases. Most people aren’t ideologues. That’s because they are healthy well adjusted adults. I’m not sure what that says about congress. Since most people aren’t ideologues, get ready for the landslide. Trump fixed the economy. Obama – Magic wand. People can see that the economy is fine. They see through the democrats rhetoric. Trump has been showing off a new partnership model. Public/Private and internationally

On Wednesday, June 12, host Gene Wilhelm interviewed staff apologist of Catholic Answers and catholic.com, Trent Horn, on his new book, Counterfeit Christs. Trent became Catholic in high school and has continued to have a passion for learning about the faith and being able to explain and defend it. In the first part of the show, Gene talked about the saints of the day, 108 Polish martyrs who were martyred during WWII by the Nazis: 3 bishops, 52 priests, 26 men of male religious orders, 3 seminarians, 8 religious sisters, and 9 lay people. They were beatified by Pope St. John Paul II in 1999. Hostess of Roundup, Judy Comeaux, gave us a surprise call live from St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican City to talk about her awesome travel experience overseas! In the second part of the show, Trent Horn talked about the main point of Counterfeit: sharing who the real Jesus is, exposing distortions, and tackling misconceptions and partial truths about Our Lord. The chapters are set up with six groups of ideologies and under each of them are “counterfeit Christs”—false representations of Jesus that are endemic to those particular systems of thought. The groups are 1. Non-religious, 2. Atheists, 3. Other world religions, 4. Quasi-Christians, 5. Ideologues, and 6. Protestants who mistook Jesus saying that he was a prosperity preacher. Throughout the book, Trent shows how scripture and history expose these counterfeits in different ways. When asked why would someone want to read Counterfeit Christs, Trent said, “It helps them learn about who Jesus is, to get the full catechesis, knowing who He is, what he taught, what the first Christians believed about Jesus, and from there, to have intelligent answers for people who claim that the Church has misinterpreted who Jesus is.” The best place to get Trent Horn’s Counterfeit Christs is at shop.catholic.com. Atop Democratic primary polls, Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden are re-igniting a debate about whether moderates are more electable. Are voters pushing the candidates to the extremes or just looking for moderate alternatives? Andrew Hall finds that moderate candidates are more likely to win general elections, but that they are running for office less often than extremists. The benefits of office are declining and the costs are increasing, especially for potential moderates. But Stephen Utych finds that moderates are far less advantaged in general elections over extremists than they used to be. Partisan polarization means voters increasingly treat politicians in each party as interchangeable, lowering the costs of nominating extremists. Either way, voters are not the main cause of polarization. Public Space Travel Podcast Episode 03 - Eggs and Oil: Eco-fascism, ideologues, and the NZ shooter manifesto (with special guest Johnny Lupinacci) WARNING: The following episode of Public Space Travel is a critical discourse analysis of the manifesto written by the shooter who committed the New Zealand massacre on March 15, 2019. As such, this episode contains material that some may find disturbing and/or triggering. We have chosen to intentionally refrain from using the shooter’s name. Public Space Travel stands unwavering against hate, bigotry, and oppression in all of its forms. May this episode help comrades and allies better understand the twisted ideas and sick justifications inside the minds of the alt-right. We hope this episode will agitate and inoculate the left and their allies from these abhorrent alt-right beliefs. Now, more than ever, do we need to organize in solidarity against all oppression. We cannot delay. On this episode of PST, we are joined by Johnny Lupinacci, eco-critical scholar and professor of Cultural Studies and Social Thought in Education, to discuss the ideology of eco-fascism presented in the manifesto of the Christchurch, New Zealand shooter; how these alt-right ideas are spread on the internet, functioning as an informal learning space of bigotry; as well as some related commentary regarding “whiteness” and “white-fragility,” which we will explore in greater detail in an upcoming episode of PST. Public Space Travel is a podcast dedicated to social/political critique, comedy, and education. Coming from an anti-hierarchy/oppression perspective, we aim for progressive/radical left solidarity with brothers/sisters/trans and non-binary folk of all stripes. Feminist author Meghan Murphy, who had a large following on Twitter, was recently removed from that platform because of what appear to be fairly innocuous Tweets related to transgenderism, and even lost a book contract as well. The incident highlighted divisions among feminists regarding transgender issues.
President Trump could've gotten the border wall. Democrats were more than willing to cave on that in exchange for saving the dreamers. But instead, Trump moved the goal posts.
Robbie Martin is exactly the kind of person I like. He’s a filmmaker, musician, and co-host of Media Roots Radio with his sister, Abby Martin. Most importantly Robbie is able to see through bullshit. He’s able to stay consistent with his views and passionate about what is morally right and wrong with our world today. We had a great conversation, mostly about subjects he explores in his astonishingly powerful 3 part documentary series ‘A Very Heavy Agenda’ The Mind blowing trilogy is titled as follows: Part 1: A Catalyzing event Part 2: How We Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the New Neocons Part 3: Maintaining the World Order We talk about The American Empire that we live in. 9/11, How the war on terror got started, and how our foreign policy has transformed to fit the demands of fighting an idea across the globe. We look at some of the events and key players that have been operating behind the scenes, either in think tanks or writing op-ed pieces, but nonetheless influencing American foreign policy, no matter who sits in the white house. The president changes but the war party stays in power. It's the Neo-cons. Who are they? what do they want? how long have they been in power for? How have they managed to rebrand themselves and remain in power through multiple presidents? and what's next on their agenda? Its seems like there's always Bi-partisan support for war. There's always more money and support for foreign interventions and military entailments. It doesn’t matter which side of the aisle you’re on, the political and media class of the D.C. /beltway establishment can always agree on more money, more power, more control and domination for the Empire. We get into all this and more. It’s a great one. enjoy!
