The jazz standard "All The Things You Are" has been performed countless times by master jazz vocalists, 30s big bands, bebop small groups, hard-bop combos, modern deconstructionists, and even soon-to-be Kings of Pop. On this episode, Kirk takes listeners through the history of the now-famous tune, from its humble Broadway origins all the way to his recording studio in Portland, where he and some friends recorded an all-new arrangement just for Strong Songs.Music/Lyrics: Jerome Kern & Oscar Hammerstein IIVersions Featured:Broadway Original Cast Recording of "Very Warm for May," - 1939Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra, feat. A very special literary romp to round off the year! This very special "bookish" episode features the well-read, candid, and occasionally irreverent members of "Buckner's Bookies", a ladies-only book club that meets every few weeks around a dinner table, to talk books, culture, food, politics, and—of course—trashy TV. Sex, drugs, rock n' roll, hostages, immigration, crime, New York in the 70s, Saga Boys, opera, and accordions. Mix all that with some southern gothic blues, and you have yourself a rollicking-yet-thoughtful exploration into six hand-picked, music-themed books that will make you "Hot for Teacher", or perhaps dreaming of becoming a "Paperback Writer". Or, you might just find yourself craving some Buddy Holly or Lisa Loeb-style reading glasses to round off your festive holiday outfit. We don't know the faces or names of many enslaved Black people in American history. Some left a small mark of their existence in the very bricks of the buildings their hands built, yet they remain voiceless because their story has been hidden away.Historians like Annette Gordon-Reed know that through sharing the stories of enslaved people, we remember their humanity and preserve historical truth in the process. She's a Harvard University professor and the award-winning author of The Hemingses of Monticello and On Juneteenth. With her lawyer-like approach, she's brought light to stories once expunged from our history and provided a view of the road to Juneteenth through her books. In this episode of the Branding Room Only podcast, you'll hear about the national implications inherent in The Hemingses' story (and connection to Thomas Jefferson) and Juneteenth. Madeleine Bunbury is an English equine artist who paints life portraits of horses and ponies. At just 28, Madeleine is aspiring to follow in the footsteps of her idol, George Stubbs, aligning with other great equine painters, such as Agasse, Munnings and Herring. Madeleine was born on the island of Mustique in 1995, one of four children; her mother Lotty is a fashion designer and her father Michael, a doctor. She grew up in an an island playground and from an early age sketching and painting was instinctive, and more accessible than riding ponies which she dreamed of. It was when she began her education at boarding school in England that she was able to indulge herself and become a horse-mad teenager taking every opportunity to ride. Her love of horses became the catalyst to her initial plan to become a veterinarian but she had to abort that idea once she failed the required science exams. It was then that she decided on a career in art with the confidence that this was something for which she had a talent. With the guidance of an artistic uncle and aunt, Madeleine spent three years studying traditional portraiture at the Charles Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy. It was to prove the launching pad for her to embark on a career as an equine artist and she was soon making a livelihood painting horse portraits. Madeleine can be found either in her studio in Fosbury, Wiltshire or traveling to horses across the UK and around the world. Her latest project is a series of 16 breeds of British native horses and ponies which, as well as producing very large paintings will also be a coffee book, and perhaps a documentary.Playlist: Eminem- Lose Yourself (Gets me out of bed and revved for the day)Claude Debussy - Claire de lune (The first piece I learnt to play on the piano)Chopin - Nocturne no.20 in C-Sharp Minor (so melancholy and beautiful to paint to) Destiny's Child - Independent Woman (after various boyfriends let me down this is how I feel) Favorite artists:Isabella WatlingDaisy SimsHilditch HenriettaAbel-SmithEleanor Cardozo Madeleine's website: https://www.bunburyart.com/Instagram: @bunbury_equine_art Host: Chris StaffordFollow @theaartpodcast on InstagramThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4769409/advertisement

Arthur Rubinstein - Nocturne No. 7 in C Sharp Minor, Op. 27, No. 1片尾:Arthur Rubinstein - Nocturne No. 9 in B Major, Op. 32, No. 1【Logo设计】刘刘(ins: imjanuary)【后期制作】方改则【互动方式】微博@不合时宜TheWeirdo商务合作可发邮件至hibuheshiyi@126.com或微博私信

Donal Macleod explores how, from childhood, Poulenc was exposed to two versions of Paris: one that was working class and religious, another that was high society, secular... and avant-garde. Francis Poulenc was the epitome of Parisian high society: suave, convivial and connected. Or was that how he wanted us to see him? The critic Claude Rostand famously commented that Poulenc was a combination of “moine et voyou” - monk and rogue. This week, we follow the composer from Paris's artisanal upper class heartland, to the city's dark underbelly, discovering the moments when the monk and the rogue met face-to-face. András Schiff last performed the complete Beethoven piano sonatas at Wigmore Hall from 2004–6 to overwhelming critical acclaim, with the editor of the Guardian, Alan Rusbridger, describing one particular performance as ‘a riveting mixture of erudition, analysis, passion, wit and memory'. On the day before each of the eight recitals in the series, the world-renowned pianist, pedagogue and lecturer gave a lecture-recital in which he explored the works to be performed. Deeply engaging and insightful, these thought-provoking lecture-recitals, recorded live at the Hall, are available as eight audio lecture-recitals.
Rudolf Buchbinder – Soirée de Vienne sounds echoes of the celebrated Austrian pianist's home city in the form of music closely associated with it. The recording, released by Deutsche Grammophon on 25 November, captures both the lost world of salon soirées and Vienna's legendary attitude to life, with its heady blend of intensity and insouciance, earthiness, and beauty.Track Listing:1 Soirée de Vienne, Op. 56 04:472 No. 2, Pizzicato-Polka 03:323 No. 1 in D Major (Arr.
