Jonathan Hood reflects on the passing of Memphis/NWA wrestling legend, Eddie Marlin. You will hear from his dear friend, Randy Hales, longtime Memphis wrestling promoter, Jim Cornette, pro wrestling manager/promoter/podcaster and more. One of the greatest babyfaces in the history of Tennessee wrestling, Eddie Marlin, died today, just days after his 89th birthday. He was one of the few to say that he sold out the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis -- and in the match, he and Al Greene essentially worked a front facelock for 55 minutes. Marlin described the sellout bout a few years back on an podcast of Booking Memphis Wrestling with Jerry Jarrett. "I was in there with Al and and Al got a front facelock on me, and somehow, one way or another, when he did, I bit my lip and it started bleeding, bleeding pretty good. And the people thought that from that front facelock that it was coming from my throat -- and I mean, them people, they really, really got feeling sorry for me," recalled Marlin. "And we worked that front facelock, it seemed like forever, because the people just kept standing and standing and standing, and finally he backed me into the corner, and when he stepped back, I fell down and that was our call then, a small package, or jackknife, and I pinned him one, two three, and that Coliseum went wild along with me." Jarrett, who was Marlin's son-in-law, raved about the bout. "Eddie and Al were so good that they worked one hold for about 55 minutes. I was afraid the time limit was going to run out on them because we set it up that Al would give Eddie a pretty good beating and Eddie would sneak a win in. It was just an amazing match to me, that somebody could keep the fans' interest for 55 minutes, with one hold. It was amazing." It worked because the fans believed in Marlin, who was not huge, at roughly 6-foot, 200 pounds, and wasn't in especially awe-inspiring shape. "Eddie was a really, really good babyface. The fans loved him and took to him, whatever situation you put him in," said Jarrett. And there was little ego there either, even if Billy Spears once spray-painted "Big Shot" on Marlin's car. Eddie Marlin was born August 13, 1930, to Eddie and Annie Mai Marlin, in Nashville. His siblings included sisters Anna and Peggy, and a brother, Thomas, who also got into the wrestling business. In a 1979 interview in the TNT Power newsletter published by Terry Justice, Marlin recalled breaking into the business in the early 1950s. "The way I got started, I was working in Nashville and met some wrestlers at the 'Y' and worked out with them. One night [promoter[ Nick Gulas was running a spot show in Alabama and one of the wrestlers didn't show up, so I took his place. I had been going to matches all my life," he explained. The legendary Jackie Fargo saw something in Marlin. Early in his career, Marlin lost to Fargo, and Fargo called promoter Nick Gulas and said, "Eddie's a pretty good hand. Why don't you help him out some?" Much of Marlin's success came in tag teams, and he won belts in Arkansas and Kentucky, as well as his home state. In this episode Randy takes into another journey through Memphis wrestling history. This time focusing on the 70s, he and Sean go into detail on a pivotal decade in the territory's history with insider information from his spot working for the company! Jerry Lawler, Jackie Fargo, Bill Dundee, Jerry Jarrett, Lance and Dave, Jimmy Valiant, Austin Idol, Rocky Johnson, Hulk Hogan, Robert Fuller, and so many more are covered.
We bring back a popular concept this week, as we welcome great fans of the podcast and Memphis wrestling onto the show to ask Jerry Jarrett any questions they can think of. Whether it's going into detail on the infamous Snowman angle, scripted promos in modern wrestling, great stories on Dutch Mantell, the psychology behind optimal timing for babyface and heel turns, how Jerry Jarrett at a young age acquired his ability to run so many profitable businesses, thoughts how AEW is doing so far and what they need to do going forward, a comparison of the strengths of Jackie Fargo and Jerry Lawler and much more!
In this episode we bring you our first part of a series looking at the rich history of Memphis wrestling. Randy takes us back to the 40s, with a little known story of Sam Muchnick attempting to buy the territory before Nick Gulas and Roy Welch did. Then an in-depth look into Billy Wicks, Sputnik Monroe, their legendary stadium match, and Sputnik's civil rights influence. We also go into the greatness of Jackie Fargo, Don and Al Greene, Lance Russell, the split with Jerry Jarrett, and more figures from that era of Tennessee wrestling history!
This may be our favorite episode as we welcome the beloved patriarch of the Memphis Wrestling family - Mr. Eddie Marlin! We have him, Jerry Jarrett, and Randy Hales on the line, as they talk about their decades in the territory together. Hear about what Eddie has meant to Jerry as a father-in-law, main event wrestler, and so much more. Hear why he's responsible for Randy having a career in the industry. Also, his team with Tommy Gilbert, working with stars like Jerry Lawler and Jackie Fargo the many beatings he took on Memphis TV, and more, it's a great show.
In my interview with the legendary Bob Armstrong, he discusses the following topics: His last professional wrestling matches.... His plans after his in-ring career ends.... Raising all four of his sons as wrestlers.... His son Brian (aka Road Dogg Jesse James) being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.... His Hall of Fame experience... How he came up with the name "Bullet" and why he wore a mask... His experience in the NWA and Georgia Championship Wrestling... The famous Black Saturday event with Vince McMahon.... Wrestling in Japan and Korea.... His years in TNA Impact.... and his thoughts on Roddy Piper, Dory Funk Jr., Jackie Fargo, Harley Race, Jack Brisco, and The Assassin Jody Hamilton
On this episode we have a lot of fun strolling down memory lane and going over some of the more memorable ribs and pranks that Jerry Jarrett saw during his decades in the Memphis territory. Hear some hilarious stories usually reserved for "the boys". There is plenty of Jackie Fargo in this one!

The School of Morton Podcast with Ricky Morton and Scotty Campbell
Ricky Morton goes in-depth with his memories of wrestling at WrestleMania 14 and during the Attitude Era. He recalls “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s feud with “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels and the involvement of boxing legend Mike Tyson. The fifth episode of the School of Morton podcast co-hosted by WWE Hall of Fame Inductee Ricky Morton of the Rock n’ Roll Express is available for download right now! Ricky Morton shares this backstage memory from WrestleMania 14: “What I really recall is… I was walking down the hall in the back and I heard somebody say ‘Hey Ricky Morton’ and it was Mike Tyson”. The WWE Hall of Famer offers his thoughts on an outsider such as Mike Tyson being brought in to participate in a WrestleMania. Ricky said, “I know where everything is going… it is to better our business. To look to him to come to be in the main event and having Shawn Michaels against Steve Austin with Mike Tyson (as referee)… it was great.” Matches that night at WrestleMania 14 featured the first time the Undertaker faced Kane with Paul Bearer being a part of the evening. Ricky also details memories of wrestling Paul Bearer who was then known as Percy Pringle. He talks about him booking in Memphis Wrestling with “Dirty” Dutch Mantell and the man that went on to be the Undertaker. Then he goes on to talk about the Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak ending. Ricky talks about the first time he ever saw a dumpster being a part of a finish, which was during the match with Mick Foley, Terry Funk (as Chainsaw Charlie) vs. the New Age Outlaws. Ricky speaks on their time in WWE in 1998 while feuding with multiple tag teams including Hawk and Animal, The Legion of Doom, the Road Warriors. He also shares his memory of wrestling a bear and reveals his family kept one caged in their yard. Plus an incredible story about Don and Jackie Fargo and their on the road antics.
