The Boston Red Sox continued their hot streak with a 5-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Monday night to kick off their three-game series at Fenway Park. The depth was highlighted as Josh Winckowski turned in a strong start of 6 2/3 innings, Franchy Cordero going 3-for-4, Jarren Duran continuing to be valuable at the plate and on the basepath and John Schreiber getting a key out to keep the Red Sox in the win column. NESN's Lauren Campbell recaps Monday's win, takes a look at the WooSox kids who helped make it possible and analyzes another strong outing from Tanner Houck that only further solidified him as the closer despite manager Alex Cora not naming anyone for that role just yet. Consider: It's not necessarily that an employer has a performance management problem or, say, a learning management system problem. We must strive to marshal the discrete domains of human capital management, the silos, as one multidisciplinary instrument to solve employers' people-related needs and challenges. This is the high-level strategic value in industry-specific and industry-tailored suites for HCM, in my opinion. They help us think about HCM more holistically. They help vendors and users alike of technology for HCM break free from silo-think. There's plenty additional value, as well, for the industries these tailored HCM suites address. Software-as-a-service provider isolved recently launched People Cloud for Healthcare Services, a version of its HCM software suite exclusively for employers in health and medical services. To discuss the new product (and accompanying professional services) James Norwood, chief marketing and strategy officer at isolved, joined us for this episode of the #HRTechChat video podcast. "Once you're in a battle for talent, and it becomes a seller's market, then you do have to invest in these things," James says. He's speaking of the perennial need for registered nurses in healthcare and the need to combat and address this with people-focused solutions. RNs are always in short supply, it seems. It's a top-of-mind challenge in the health and medical services space. The pandemic has only exacerbated this shortage to become even more acute (if that was even possible). The vendor's own research shows 100 percent of HR leaders in assisted living facilities saying its hard to retain RNs. You read that right, by the way. In a large isolved-initiated survey of many subsets of the healthcare space, yes, all the HR leaders working in assisted living reported difficulty in retaining talent. It's indicative of the urgent and deep challenges related to employing people in the healthcare space. "What is isolved doing? We're helping on some of those things," James says. For healthcare-related employers, through the new healthcare-focused version of the suite, "we're helping with people getting onboarded. We're helping them get compliant. Our learning management system has very industry-specific certification training courses, which will automatically notify people in advance when a particular certification might be coming up to expire. So there's lots of things that can be done to work with employees, to make them feel like they have more control in their own destiny." The new version of the suite does a number of things to address the idiosyncrasies of healthcare employers' people-related needs, and we recently published our analysis of the People Cloud for Healthcare Services launch. I encourage you all to watch this episode. James and I delved deeply into the rationale behind isolved's decision to launch this new version of its product, how it helps, where the vendor looks to tackle industry specialization next, and much more.

MLB – Major League Baseball – Opening Day 2021 Today Cleveland Indians at Detroit Tigers, 1:10 p.m. Cosy-FM & 94.9 WSJM 12:50 p.m. Pittsburgh Steelers at Chicago Cubs, 2:20 p.m. Chicago White Sox at Los Angeles Angels, 10:05 p.m. MLB – Cubs' Hoyer confident deal with Rizzo will be worked out Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer insists he is confident Anthony Rizzo will remain in Chicago beyond this season even though the star first baseman is cutting off talks on a new contract. Though his preference is to stay with the Cubs, Rizzo set an opening-day deadline for a new agreement. The three-time All-Star said this week he won’t listen to an offer once the season starts unless the proposal is close to what he thinks it should be. Hoyer is “very confident” a deal will get done. He said he respects Rizzo’s decision to limit talks once the season starts Thursday, though the Cubs will remain open to negotiating during the year. MLB – Cubs agree to 1-year deal with backup catcher Wolters The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a one-year deal with catcher Tony Wolters and designated right-hander James Norwood for assignment. Wolters figures to back up Willson Contreras. He signed a minor league deal with Pittsburgh last month and was released on March 29. Wolters is a career .238 hitter with seven home runs and 123 RBIs over five seasons with the Colorado Rockies. Norwood was 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA over 23 relief appearances for Chicago from 2018 to 2020. The Cubs open at home against Pittsburgh on Thursday. MLB – 3 high school teammates become MLB opening day starters Lucas Giolito, Max Fried and Jack Flaherty were teammates nine years ago at Harvard-Westlake, a prestigious prep school in Los Angeles. On Thursday, all three will be opening day starting pitchers in the major leagues. And they didn’t even win a California state title the year they all played together. Giolito will throw the season's first pitch for the Chicago White Sox, Flaherty for the St. Louis Cardinals and Fried for the Atlanta Braves. NCAA – Study: Michigan stands out in academics-based NCAA brackets Michigan stood out in a study that seeded the men's and women's NCAA tournament fields based on academics and diversity. It was the only school to claim a No. 1 seed in both the men's and women's brackets released Wednesday by The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at Central Florida. The men's team was crowned the national champion for the second straight year in the study. Gonzaga was crowned the national champion on the women's side. The school's unbeaten team was a No. 2 seed in the bracket as it prepares to play in the Final Four. NCAA – NCAA: Ending daily testing or delaying games not an option With the final weekend of the NCAA Tournament on the horizon, the last thing a team would want is to lose a player to a positive COVID test or even worse having an entire team knocked out by the coronavirus. Those scenarios seem extremely unlikely with only two confirmed positive tests out of the nearly 17,000 administered at the women’s basketball tournament over the first two weeks of the tournament. The last one came nine days ago. NCAA – High court sympathetic to college athletes in NCAA dispute The Supreme Court seems sympathetic to college athletes in a dispute with the NCAA over rules limiting their education-related compensation. The case that was argued on Wednesday isn't about whether students can be paid salaries. Instead, the outcome will help determine whether schools can offer athletes tens of thousands of dollars in education benefits for things such as computers, graduate scholarships, tutoring, study abroad and internships. During the arguments, liberal and conservative justices sounded sympathetic to students. Under current NCAA rules, students cannot be paid, and the scholarship money that colleges can offer is capped at the cost of attending the school.

Alright? Been a while, hasn't it? Sorry about that. We've had a quiet few months and have never really explained it to our bafflingly loyal subscribers, and that's because there's really not much to explain. We're still going. Learn more about Gnosis: http://www.gnosisretreatcenter.org/ [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4-lJWwwRc8] A brief introduction to Gnosis Suppose you come to the end of your tether, can no longer cope, have a break-down, fall apart, go to pieces. To whom would you turn? Where would you go? What alternatives do you have when you desperately need help, but have little, if any, say in the kind of help available? When a person’s suffering becomes insupportable, to him or herself and to others, and yet persists, that person is in a state of distress. Once you find yourself in distress you come to realize that you are at the mercy of other people. Which of those people are you willing to be at their mercy, for better or worse? To whom are you willing to entrust your life? If you don’t happen to know anyone who comes to mind, then how will you go about finding someone you can trust? Do such persons exist? Gnosis Retreat Center aspires to be such a place, by providing a safe place to be, when you are alone and afraid, confused, bereft, and not sure whom to turn to for help. Gnosis is a household that is populated by others like yourself, a refuge for those who are lost, afraid, bewildered, or simply seeking a fresh start, who may, if they choose, get over their ordeal and see it through, without jeopardy.
