My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a lady who has been building her entrepreneurial business since she was a young twelve year old girl interested in computers. And as we show you on the introduction and the show, a career is built by many different steps. Many different phases until you get to what looks like the natural place. Back in 2002 she launched her first website, a manga scanlation site (translating comics from Japanese & English into Polish) and grew it to 40K views in under 5 months and even managed a virtual staff of people who volunteered to support the growth. Jump on seven years, and she was then running a successful photography business, and this was her life for seven years, before stepping back into the corporate world when….as she she says in her own words “I worked my tail off in the marketing agency world, including a stint at a corporate ad agency as community manager and social media/email marketing strategist. This is when I got really obsessed with branding, business development, list-building and all the ways biz owners can create consistent revenue without losing their shit.” The first dots had been well and truly placed, and now it was a case of joining them up with the creation of her own self named Digital Marketing Agency. Kamila Gornia lived a life of glitz and glamour as a photographer for parties of the rich and famous. She long had a premonition where she believed she wouldn’t live past the age of 21. On her 21st birthday, she was involved in a car accident with a drunk driver. This led to a complete re-evaluation of what she was supposed to be doing with her life. Q & A Why do you think self love is important? Self love is important to me because it allows me to operate at my higher capacity so I can do the work that needs to be doing. What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love? Feeling like in order to accept myself I needed acceptance from others. Who is one person who has changed your life for the better? My mom. What is the best advice you have ever received? “Focus on one thing at a time and don’t give up immediately if something doesn’t work. Persistence is going to pay off.” What is a self care habit that you practice regularly? Journaling. Can you share a resource, an app or a tool that we can use to build our selfcare practice. I use an app from Amazon Prime to stream self guided meditation. Do you have a favorite quote? “Whether you think you can or you think you can't you're right.” Henry Ford. My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a lady who has been building her entrepreneurial business since she was a young twelve year old girl interested in computers. And as we show you on the introduction and the show, a career is built by many different steps. Many different phases until you get to what looks like the natural place. The thing that you were born to do. Back in 2002 she launched her first website, a manga scanlation site (translating comics from Japanese & English into Polish) and grew it to 40K views in under 5 months and even managed a virtual staff of people who volunteered to support the growth. Jump on seven years, and she was then running a successful photography business, and this was her life for seven years, before stepping back into the corporate world when....as she she says in her own words "I worked my tail off in the marketing agency world, including a stint at a corporate ad agency as community manager and social media/email marketing strategist. This is when I got really obsessed with branding, business development, list-building and all the ways biz owners can create consistent revenue without losing their shit." The first dots had been well and truly placed, and now it was a case of joining them up with the creation of her own self named Digital Marketing Agency. This is a successful digital marketing consulting & education company where she helps modern businesses and entrepreneurs to grow their presence, make more money, and truly blow up online so they can become leaders in their field. And once again as she says "I freaking LOVE it!" So did she always know that she was gently placing the foundations in place as she went, or was each phase in her life supposed to be her legacy work? And what does she find is the hardest part of growing a business? The sales, marketing, or the hours that it takes to get it off the ground? Today we have a very special guest, business maven Kamila Gornia. Kamila is strategist who helps entrepreneurs become leaders online with her marketing methods - and have fun in the process! On this episode of the Sex, Money, and Food Podcast, Kamila shares her background of emigrating from Poland as a teenager, what she learned from a toxic relationship and her five steps to making you and your business known in the world. Even if you aren’t an entrepreneur you can still learn how to apply those five steps in other areas of your life. More About This Show When Kamila first moved to America, she was 13. She had been raised in a small town in Poland when her family moved to Chicago. It was culture shock in more ways than one! She didn’t know the language, she had no friends and she was in a much, much more urban setting than her hometown. So she learned English, she made friends and she adapted. She learned to take charge and go after what she wanted, she knew that was the only way she would get it. And all of those lessons and experiences served her well when she became an entrepreneur. However her career didn’t begin with entrepreneurship. After getting out of a toxic relationship, she put her full focus on work and career. Her day job was working at a marketing agency and she ran her own wellness blog on the side. With no relationship to distract her, she began looking for what else would truly fulfill her. She decided to go off on her own and have her own business working with her own clients. She says it was a rollercoaster ride for the first few years, it felt like being in labor! It had tremendous ups and downs, and lots of growing pains. Today however she has found a better balance now between all the areas of her life. In the process of working with her clients, she has discovered a five step process they all go through to get from the initial stages of a business to being successful leaders in their marketplace. Those five steps are below, and as you read them remember they can apply to other areas of your life too. Think up. In this first stage think of who you serve, what you are going to provide them with and what need you will fulfill in the marketplace. Set up. This is where you get your foundation set up. This stage usually involves coming up with your marketing and marketing plans, growing your list and expanding your audience, and landing your first clients. Blow up. Stage three is getting on the scene and becoming known. Here is where you are becoming booked out with clients and momentum has started. Just how big this becomes is relative to each client but blowing up is stage three. Scale up. In this stage you begin to leverage your time to bring in more income. Here you create more leveraged offers, more products, more programs, new and different courses, as well as more sales funnels and paid marketing ads. Free up. The final stage is to free you up from your business. This is when you are looking at ways to become more profitable, manage a team and full-time people who work for you. You are also looking at other ways you can grow and move into the big name status. You’ll notice the big themes for these five stages are momentum, energy and flow. Each stage builds upon the previous one but once you have momentum it becomes easier and easier. On this episode of the podcast, Kamila explains this is the model she teaches to all of her clients, depending on where they are at when they come to her. It’s a way for us to connect with ourselves and that affects money, that affects food and that affects everything else which is why I am saying it is first. Q: There is nothing better in life than… A: experiences I would say - just any kind of experiences. Whenever we don’t challenge ourselves or get out of our box we become stagnant and when we are stuck we deteriorate. Trying new things allows us to grow. Q: Your ultimate pleasure in life is? A: My ultimate pleasure would have to be my business. I have created my business in a way to have fun with it and be excited about it. It’s closely tied to my passion: helping people step into leadership and spreading their message. Q: What does a “sales funnel” smell like to you? A: It smells like dedication, like sweat - like sweet sweat, the sexy kind. Q: What is a mistake or a circumstance did you go through regarding sex, money and food that is has allowed you grow and learn from. Or is there something that you would say...I will never do that again! A: The one that stands out to me right now is there is a guy I used to date, it was a very toxic relationship. We were together for about a year, and it definitely scarred me in a lot of ways. I put up walls, which I’m still working through and shattering today. But the good thing is that it allowed to stand in what I believe I really deserve and standing up for myself. Because I had these experiences it allowed me to mature and trust myself and be smarter in the future. Q: The book beside your bed is? A: I’m reading a lot of books! There is one that I am kind of reading (it’s not a very traditional read) and it is Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss. I’m excited keep geeking out about sales funnels with Facebook advertising expert Kamila Gornia. Kamila is a powerhouse digital marketing strategist for modern entrepreneurs who want to get seen, and get paid, online for doing what they love. She’s also my own Facebook advertising manager! She’s on the show this week because, in the Balanced Entrepreneur Facebook Group, we have been talking about sales funnels all week, and how to leverage them to scale up your business. Time Stamped Show Notes 0:00 – Introduction 0:45 – If you want a sales funnel to work, you have to send traffic to it. Facebook ads are a great way to do that – and Kamila is a master at Facebook ads. 1:30 – “Scale up and blow up.” Kamila’s mission is to help passionate, driven entrepreneurs spread their unique message to a broader audience with digital marketing. 5:30 – Why should business owners run Facebook ads, and who should do it in particular? “Basically, if you have a business and you want to get more clients, or more customers, you should be using Facebook ads,” unless your products are related to drugs, alcohol, sex or gambling. 6:10 – People tend to be afraid of Facebook ads because they are so complicated, but Kamila assures us that this is not the case. 6:40 – You either have to invest time into manually, personally marketing products on Facebook and building SEO… or you can Work Smarter, work less and let Facebook Ads do the work for you. The ultimate goal is the same: you are still driving traffic. 7:40 – If you are brand new, don’t start running ads right away, “If you are not entirely clear who you are trying to sell to, or what you’re selling.” 8:45 – Kamila has three tips for getting great results with Facebook Ads. 8:55 – Tip #1: Get all of your ducks in order before you spend a cent on Facebook ads. Make sure you have your offers ready, know your ideal customer, know the purpose of the ad, and have a sales funnel in place. 9:30 – Sales funnels are a very important part of using Facebook Ads. “What’s the point of you growing your list, or getting people interested in what you have to offer, then not doing anything with those leads… like anything at all.” You’re making it harder to get the return. 10:30 – A lot of the people who say they are Facebook Advertising Experts only focus on getting engagement or likes on a page, and there’s no real strategy or funnel in place to turn those ads into cash. Not Kamila! 11:30 - Tip #2: Know the best types of Facebook Ads for you to run based on the marketing strategy that you have. 11:40 – Page Like ads will grow your page, which can be good if you are starting from 0, but your Likes will increase regardless of which types of ad you run. Re-targeting Like ads is often more expensive, and less effective, than targeted cold traffic. It’s better to focus on a sales funnel and conversion system. 13:10 – The best type of ad to focus on is Website Conversion. Use an ad to drive traffic to a landing page, webinar page, or whatever you are trying to get leads for. 13:25 – You can also run Clicks to Website ads, if you are planning on pixeling them so that you can then run re-targeting ads and make those conversions cheaper. 14:30 – “A conversion is when someone visits that site, and then actually converts into being a lead.” The people who click on your Facebook ad convert when they opt-in. 15:10 – If your goal is to get leads, Clicks To Website ads are not the best choice, because Facebook will optimize the ad by showing it to people who are the most likely to click on the ad, not the most likely to convert by clicking through to the site and opting in. 16:30 – Within 24 hours of Kamila setting up my first two Website Conversion ads, the click through rate was over 10%. It can be difficult to get a 1% click through rate – I have been able to get 3-4% myself. 17:05 – Kamila is running ads to a cold audience, and the ads have a cost per lead of less than $2. That’s going directly to one of my webinars. 18:00 – For most service- and value-based businesses, Kamila has specific benchmarks: She tries to keep cost per conversion around or under $3.50 For evergreen opt-ins (checklists, toolkits, ebooks), she tries to keep the cost per conversion under $2.00. Sometimes they will be $1.00 or less. 22:55 – Tip #3: Know what to track. When you are running the right types of ads, Website Conversion Ads, you will be very easily able to track the cost per conversion. Click through rate is the percentage of people who actually click on your ad after seeing it If you aren’t able to run website conversion ads, overall clicks and the conversions is important Look at the relevant score, which you can check on the Ad level. If people flag your ad, or a lot of people see it and don’t click on it, then Facebook might not like you or suspend your account. Any score above 6 is good. If the score is less than 5, tweak the ad or the offer. 23:25 – Any metric under 1% needs to be improved. You either need to work on the ad itself, or adjust the audience it is being marketed towards. 23:50 – If your conversion is low and your click through rate is low, you know that people aren’t going to the site to convert. You probably need to work on the ad itself to pull more people in. 24:05 – If the click through rate is high, but the conversion is low, then the offer probably needs to be improved. 25:30 – Testing ads is incredibly important. Sometimes changing the copy or presentation of the ad will frame your audience differently, and prepare them to convert more often. 31:00 – Kamila has a gift to help you get all of your ducks in order.
