Laura continues her conversation with award winning investigative journalist, author and outdoors expert Kathryn Miles about her re-investigation into the double murder of Lollie Winans and Julie Williams, which is detailed in her book Trailed: One Woman's Quest to Solve the Shenandoah Murders. Laura and Kathryn discuss Kara Robinson's abduction and rape by predatory stalker, Richard Marc Evonitz. Evonitz abducted Kara in the blink of an eye, in broad daylight, and no-one knew it had even happened. Evonitz was a prolific serial perpetrator who targeted, stalked, abducted, and raped women. Laura believes Kara's abduction seemed much more an in the moment, opportunistic attack. Kara managed to escape due to her resilience and quick thinking. Laura and Kathryn break down Evonitz's behaviour and the timeline and discuss whether he murdered Lollie and Julie as well as other abductions and murders that might be linked including Alicia Showalter Reynolds, Anne McDaniel, Sofia Silva, Kristin and Kati Lisk and the double murder of Cathy Thomas and Becky Dowski. Content warning: Laura and Kathryn discuss and compare the behaviour of the perpetrator at the crime scenes with what is known about Evonitz's behaviour. This is not an easy listen. In June of 2002, Cory Thompson and his 16-year-old niece, Kenya Spry, were backing out of their parking space of their apartment complex when a frantic teenager ran up to them begging to be taken to the police station. Obviously, the victim of a horrific crime, Cory Thompson and his niece wasted no time getting the terrified young girl to the nearest police station in Richland County, South Carolina. Once in the safety of an interrogation room, 16-year-old Kara Robinson broke down and told police a harrowing tale. She told them all about her abduction, her torture and she told them all about the 18-hour brutal sexual assault that she endured, and she also told them about her brave escape from her attacker's apartment. 16-year-old Kara, in the midst of suffering such a nightmarish ordeal, somehow had the fortitude to not only describe her attacker, but also remember his apartment number. Bravely, she took the Richland County police back to the apartment where she was held against her will. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived at the apartment, their suspect had fled. However, upon searching his home, investigators found a footlocker containing newspaper clippings about the unsolved murders of 3 young girls who had all gone missing in Spotsylvania County, VA, more than five years before Kara's abduction. 16-year-old Kara Robinson had just led police to the home of Richard Evonitz…the Spotsylvania Serial Killer…a scumbag who had taken the lives of three innocent young girls…and, if not for Kara and her bravery, would have claimed the lives of many more. Join us today as Courtney looks deeper into the life and crimes of this monster, and more importantly, the survivor who helped bring him to justice. Trauma y superación La historia de la joven que escapó de un violador y asesino serial: hoy da consejos en TikTok
Kara Robinson Chamberlain was kidnapped by a serial killer at the age of 15, while standing in her friend's front yard. She was held captive and assaulted for 18 hours, but then Kara made a courageous escape while her captor was asleep. Kara had memorized numerous things about her captor and the apartment that she was held captive in and was able to lead law enforcement straight to her captor. He committed suicide when police caught up to him, but the information that Kara provided - led police to solve at least three other unsolved homicides and identify him as the man responsible for the murders. Following the identification and death of her captor, Kara went on to form relationships with law enforcement and she went on to work with the agency that investigated her case as a school resource officer, a sex crime and child abuse investigator and a victim's advocate until she got married and started having children. Kara now uses her own story and experiences, as well as her years of work in law enforcement to advocate for and empower others. Through the years, Kara realized that she survived what she went through for a very specific purpose: to spread hope and to help other survivors know that they can find healing, hope, and purpose. Kara reminds all survivors that “we are who we are because of what happened but we are not defined by it.” Kara is involved in several organizations, initiatives, and advocacy groups. She speaks regularly across the country and is active on social media - as a way to share her story, answer questions, advocate for other survivors and educate the public. Kara's story was recently featured on Oxygen (“Escaping Captivity: The Kara Robinson Story”) and in People magazine. Kara is working on a book and has so much more to come! Kara joins The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast to share her inspiring story. Listen to this incredible episode of The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast! It was the summer of 2002 that would change Kara Robinson Chamberlain as a person for the rest of her life. Instead of enjoying a fun day at the lake, while she was out front watering the plants, a strange man driving through her friend's neighborhood deceived her with a lame magazine excuse and abducted her.She would be shoved into a Rubbermaid container and driven to his apartment where she would endure 18 hours of sexual assault and abuse. Tune into to hear Tiffany tell her harrowing story of survival, and how Kara helped two other families solve cold cases for their daughters just by her simply surviving her abductor's clutches. To say her story is courageous is an understatement, and we are in awe of Kara's resilience and determination to live every day like the survivor she is rather than becoming the victim.Kara has her own website where she is a victim's advocate: www.kararobinsonchamberlain.comSources:People.comThecasualcriminalist.comTruecrimedaily.comFacebook: Search Cola City CrimeInstagram: @ColacitycrimeEmail your case suggestions and listener stories: colacitycrime@gmail.com

In June of 2002 15-year-old Kara Robinson was kidnapped from her friend's yard without a trace. 18 hours later she entered a police station, handcuffs still dangling from her wrist, to tell the tale of her harrowing escape from her kidnapper. She was able to provide police with enough information about her captor for them to key in on a suspect quickly. In the search of his apartment where she had been held, they find clues that lead them to believe Kara was not his first victim... but she may have been the first victim that survived.
