Fitch's 2Q25 Risk Headquarters report highlights a worsened risk outlook amid US tariff volatility. David Prowse and Justin Patrie discuss key points from the report, centered around how Trump-era policies continue to elevate investor concerns.
Look, I know it sounds crazy, but Star Wars has all kinds of Arthurian elements: an orphan boy with a secret destiny; a magic sword; a crazy magician; a princess who needs rescuing; and a big bad guy. Obviously the original film was influenced by all sorts of things (The Hidden Fortress; Lawrence of Arabia; Dune; even Lord of the Rings) but it's no surprise that the stories of King Arthur are a pretty prominent influence on the original movie about a farm boy who wants to be a hero, takes up with a space-wizard and a pirate, and helps bring down an evil empire. Starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, David Prowse, and James Earl Jones. Written and directed by George Lucas. Send me a DM here (it doesn't let me respond), OR email me: imagineabetterworld2020@gmail.comToday I'm honored to introduce you all to: Masonic and satanic ritual abuse, MK ULTRA and child trafficking survivor, overcomer and whistleblower, qualified Survival Instructor, Instructor for Hostile Environment Awareness Training, alpine climber, Tibetan medicine practitioner, adventure sport instructor, outdoor lover, my new friend, and all around badass and inspiration, LouLou was born into a multi-generational incest-based, bloodline family and is a survivor of the highest levels of Masonic and satanic ritual abuse and mind control and was the daughter of a channeler and healer mother and a father who was former Merchant Navy, worked at Shirley Oaks Children's home as a maintenance worker and builder, and who was a former model with celebrity friends like David Prowse who played Darth Vader in Star Wars. In early childhood, Lou was accepted into special school called Pilgrims as a child after testing off the charts for her IQ. Pilgrims was a school for children like her that had eczema, asthma and other conditions who were often used in medical research and experimentation among other types of child abuse. She realized at age 9 she had forgotten her past when on a live talk show she was asked a question about a childhood event and couldn't remember anything at all. Her mother's decades long friendship with a Grand Master Knight of Malta named Andrew Bertie led to further Lou's abuse and programming. She also was used for covert missions in her late teens and twenties - going to places like Lake Erie and the ecovillage of Canada where she was taught by people who had come up from a CIA training base. She also attended events as a child at Westminster Abbey with the Duchess of Kent and Pinewood Studios. After Lou's father died when she was 30, she discovered photos and exploitation material he had taken of her as a child, and it was then she discovered she had dissociation. Lou has done extensive healing and learning over the past few years to better understand what happened to her as a child and is still on her healing journey. Today is the first time Lou is publicly speaking out about what happened to her as a child and it's a great honor we get to learn about and hear her testimony for the first time. Lou believes its important people know the truth about the Grandmaster and Masonic orders practicing old Babylonian magic and every tradition - especially the left-hand path. There is such a veil over the eyes of society that such heinous abuse, crime and corruption could be at the highest levels of these secret societies and it's testimonies like Lou's that will help lift that veil from everyone's eyes. Lou is so brave and courageous for coming forth to share her testimony and I ask you all to please put away whatever you are doing give her your full attention as we shine a light on some dark topics and expose what's been hidden for far too long. It's time to make the world a better place for the children of the present and future and it's heroes like Lou who are going to make this dream a reality.CONNECT WITH LOU: Twitter: https://x.com/LouiseBrookes8CONNECT WITH THE IMAGINATION:EMAIL: imagineabetterworld2020@gmail.com OR standbysurvivors@protonmail.comMy Substack: https://emmakatherine.substack.com/BUY ME A COFFEE: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/theimaginationAll Links: https://direct.me/theimaginationpodcastSupport the show

Send us a Text Message.Buckle up for a monster-sized episode of Backseat Critics, where Andrew and I, RJ, dive headfirst into the chaos of "Rampage." Without missing a beat, we debate the heavy-hitting presence of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and whether adding Charlize Theron to the mix could've turned up the heat. We can't help but crack up over George's sign language antics and even slip in an oddball tribute to David Prowse, the man behind Darth Vader's mask, and his bittersweet "Return of the Jedi" outcome. As we navigate the treacherous waters of "Rampage," we stumble upon the hilarity of oversized animals and take it up a notch with our own outlandish pitches for giant animal movies. From rampaging elephants to city-crushing koalas, no creature is too wild for our imaginations. But it's not all creature chaos; we also tip our hats to the unsung comedic genius of Jim Varney and the heroic flexibility of Brendan Fraser. Sprinkle in a dash of Sam Rockwell and Gary Oldman, and you've got a recipe for casting what-ifs that will keep you guessing. To cap off this whirlwind episode, we tussle with the age-old question of what makes a movie just right for family night. Is it a light saber-wielding adventure, or perhaps a nostalgic trip down Mario lane? We lay down our ratings with a wink and even dare to compare video game adaptations, all while keeping the laughs coming. Remember, the next time you're torn between a pixelated plumber and some good old-fashioned city destruction, the Backseat Critics have got your back. We return to Hammer Productions with Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell, filmed at Elstree Studios in 1972. It marked the final chapter in the Hammer Frankenstein saga and director Terence Fisher's last film. The Film Features: Peter Cushing in his sixth and final portrayal of Baron Victor Frankenstein, a part he originated in 1957's The Curse of Frankenstein. Despite being 59 and apparently in poor health when he made this film, Cushing still insisted on performing a stunt requiring him to leap from a tabletop onto the hulking creature's back, spinning wildly in circles to subdue the monster gone amok with a sedative. Shane Briant as Dr. Simon Helder, best known for his four Hammer appearances, including this film and Demons of the Mind, Straight on Till Morning, and Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter (coming soon from General Witchfinders). He reprised the role of Simon Helder years later in the film Sherlock Holmes vs. Frankenstein. Madeline Smith as Sarah "Angel" Klauss. Also seen in Hammer's The Vampire Lovers, Taste the Blood of Dracula, Tam-Lin, and Theatre of Blood, she went on to become the first Bond girl of the Roger Moore era, Miss Caruso, in the post-opening titles sequence of Live and Let Die (infamous for the scene where Bond unzips her dress with a magnetic wristwatch). After taking a break from acting to raise her daughter, she is still working now at the age of 74, recently appearing in Mark Gatiss's The Amazing Mr. Blunden. And of course, the main event... the feature creature... we have Dave ("Dave Prowse IS Darth Vader") Prowse as the Creature / Herr Schneider. Actor, bodybuilder, and strongman Dave Prowse carved a unique path in film history. He's best known for portraying Darth Vader (voiced by American actor James Earl Jones) in the original Star Wars trilogy. However, his career stretched far beyond that iconic role. He was a familiar face in the UK as the Green Cross Man, promoting road safety for children. However, in a recurring snub to the beautiful West Country accent, the first two adverts in the series had Prowse's voice dubbed by another actor. Thankfully, he appeared using his own voice in the third advert. Dave won the British heavyweight weightlifting championship for three consecutive years (1962-1964). Leading him to compete for England in the 1962 Commonwealth Games. During his bodybuilding training, he befriended future action stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno. His role as the manservant in Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film, "A Clockwork Orange," caught the eye of Star Wars director George Lucas, which led him to the defining role of Darth Vader. Throughout his film and TV career, Prowse was often typecast with parts such as the circus strongman in Vampire Circus, a Minotaur in (Doctor Who Klaxon)'The Time Monster,' and an android named Coppin in The Tomorrow People. He supposedly came close to iconic roles, claiming to have nearly landed the part of Jaws in James Bond and being considered for Conan the Barbarian before those parts went to other actors. We are told that Prowse lobbied for the role of Superman in Richard Donner's 1978 film. In a television interview, he recounted his response to being told "we've found our Superman" with a simple "Thank you very much," only to then learn Christopher Reeve had been chosen and Prowse would be his trainer. Finally, it's worth noting that David Prowse made his second appearance as a Frankenstein laboratory creation in this film, his first being in The Horror of Frankenstein (uncredited cameo in 1967's Casino Royale aside). He holds the distinction of being the only actor to play a Hammer Frankenstein's monster more than once. Get bonus content on PatreonSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/general-witchfinders. "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back," directed by Irvin Kershner and released in 1980, stands not only as one of the most iconic sequels in cinema history but also as a pivotal turning point in the expansive Star Wars saga. As we gear up for Star Wars Day 2024, a retrospective glance at this masterpiece reveals its undiminished power to captivate and provoke thought, making it an enduring treasure in the sci-fi genre.Cinematography and Visual InnovationFrom Hoth's chilling winds to Dagobah's lush swamps, each frame of "The Empire Strikes Back" is a visual feast. The opening battle on the icy planet of Hoth remains one of the most visually spectacular sequences in the Star Wars series. Cinematographer Peter Suschitzky's expertise brought a deeper, grittier tone to the film, setting it apart from its predecessor. The use of shadows and lighting intensifies the emotional gravity of each scene, making the visuals not just beautiful but narratively compelling.Storytelling and StructureIf "A New Hope" laid the foundation of this galactic adventure, "The Empire Strikes Back" expanded its scope and plunged deeper into its characters' emotional landscapes. The screenplay, refined by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan, introduces a complex narrative with richer character development and a more layered plot. The film daringly deviates from the traditional victory arc, opting instead for a more sombre, introspective tone that reflects the characters' turmoil and growth. This bold narrative choice elevates the sequel to new heights, endowing it with a maturity and sophistication that many sequels fail to achieve.Character Development and PerformancesThe heart of "The Empire Strikes Back" lies in its profound character development, particularly that of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher). Hamill delivers a nuanced performance as Luke grapples with his identity and destiny; Ford encapsulates Solo's roguish charm and depth, while Fisher's Leia is both a determined leader and a vulnerable human. The introduction of Yoda, masterfully voiced and puppeteered by Frank Oz, adds a philosophical layer to the story, challenging Luke and the audience with deep existential questions. The chemistry among the lead characters, especially the budding romance between Han and Leia, provides both warmth and tension, enriching the narrative and giving audiences moments of relief amidst the darker undertones of the saga.Villainous Presence: Darth VaderDarth Vader, portrayed by David Prowse with the unforgettable voice of James Earl Jones, cements his status as one of cinema's most formidable villains. "The Empire Strikes Back" gives Vader more screen time and context, delving into his complexities and setting up the familial reveal that would shock cinema audiences: "No, I am your father." This line, delivered during the climactic lightsaber duel with Luke, remains one of the most iconic moments in film history, reshaping the Star Wars narrative arc and deepening the conflict at its core.Cultural and Historical Significance=Upon its release, "The Empire Strikes Back" was met with mixed reviews; however, its reputation has only grown over time, and it is now widely regarded as the best film in the Star Wars series. It challenged the expectations of what a sequel could be and expanded the scope of George Lucas's storytelling canvas. Its influence is evident in the numerous sequels and franchises that have since sought to emulate its success in deepening character arcs and complex storytelling.Relevance to Pop CultureThe film's impact on pop culture is immeasurable, from spawning memorable lines to influencing countless works in film, television, and other media. It's a testament to the enduring appeal of the Star Wars universe, continually attracting new fans while keeping long-time enthusiasts hooked."The Empire Strikes Back" is not just a film; it's a profound cinematic experience that resonates through its pioneering special effects, compelling narrative, and deep philosophical underpinnings. As we celebrate Star Wars Day 2024, we acknowledge the timeless allure of this masterpiece. It teaches us about heroism, resilience, and the complexity of human (and non-human) emotions. This sequel not only stands the test of time but also remains a benchmark for evaluating cinematic excellence in science fiction. For any fan of cinema, Star Wars, or storytelling in general, "The Empire Strikes Back" is a seminal viewing experience, its legacy as vibrant today as it was over four decades ago. As Yoda might say, "Pass on what you have learned." Indeed, the lessons of "The Empire Strikes Back" continue to enlighten and inspire, making this celebration a tribute to the enduring power of great storytelling. Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://linktr.ee/borntowatchpodcast If you are looking to start a podcast and want a host or get guests to pipe in remotely, look no further than Riverside.fmClick the link below https://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=matthew
Tantz came up with this week's topic: Exposition! It's because she's well on her way into starting her latest comic, Verdant, and working out ways to introduce the story, the world, characters, culture, magic systems, religion etc without doing a massive text dump, which people generally don't like too much. So how do you exposit in a good way? One popular way is through a dialogue; characters give overly verbose and entirely unnecessary explanations about how things work during ordinary conversations, telling people things that they would already know from childhood, just so the reader can be informed in a “natural” way, which isn't natural and it actually really terrible, eg: “Hello my friend David Prowse who I have known since high school but have had a big falling out with since you slept with my wife. Could you hand me the energy cell please? Of course you know that all machines now are powered by energy cells which are miniaturised nuclear fusion reactors, so that we have unlimited, cheap power always.” Another way is to have a character in a classroom, being taught particular concepts like history or politics so they and the reader “learn” together. This can be terrible but it can also be pretty good if you handle it right. Even text dumps can work ok if they're done correctly, but that's rare. The best way to do exposition is to introduce the audience to only the concepts they need to know for now, in a basic way, with plenty of context in ways that are fully and easily relatable. Like showing a small, slow stakes scene that introduces key concepts and shows the character's reaction to them. If most of the stuff is easily relatable then the audience will focus more on the few isolated weird new things you introduce and they can learn about them from seeing how the characters react to them and how they fit into the context of the world, that way you don't need to explain them. A great example of this is the new comic by Marcorossi, Bunyan Mk7, it's a perfect example of quick, minimal exposition through story. From here we started talking about how in anime often an entire first season of 13 episodes is devoted to this sort of expository introduction, which I find extremely pleasant because the focus of that kind of storytelling is not “conflict” but instead “progress”, which is something not well understood in modern storytelling anymore. The interest the audience gets from the story isn't that a character wants something or needs to fight to get it or resolve an issue, instead it's the linear consumption of knowledge that builds to the goal of finding out more about something. You specifically don't care about resolving anything, rather the learning is fun for its own sake. “Progress” can also be anything that builds towards a goal. I find people still like to rationalise this as “conflict” but you need to stretch the definition too much that it makes the concept useless and no longer logically understandable. How do you do exposition? With a text dump? Via dialogue? A classroom? An introductory prologue? Or do you just throw the audience in the deep end and expect them to sink or swim? That said, the more familiar and relatable the story offering is, the less work on the exposition you have to do. The making of George Lucas' first 'Star Wars' film is an incredible saga unto itself. The global success of 'Star Wars' and how it changed the film business forever is an incredible saga unto itself. The industry advancements in technology pioneered by Lucas' special effects shop Industrial Light and Magic is an incredible saga unto itself. The above, and several other sentences I could similarly write, are why it's somewhat difficult to even contemplate 'Star Wars' as 'a movie', as freed of the importance and baggage the entire franchise trails in its considerable wake as its possible to be. But hey, that's what we do here at Full Cast and Crew. So in this week's episode, I recount the experience I had in screening 'Star Wars' for the first time in a long time, and contrast that experience with the one I had watching the film AFTER I read the making-of books and watched the making-of documentaries. In order to gain some clarity, I then invited repeat FCAC guests Dan Hartley and Bruce Edwards (their previous episodes linked below) to join me. Dan is a hard-core Star Wars guy and Bruce is extremely knowledgeable about the franchise and what it represents. So this episode is not a fan-boy, nerd-herding deep dive into whether Han shot first (of course he did), nor is it a "Star Wars is overrated" trolling excercise. Instead, we talk at length about the making-of, about where the first film succeeds and falls short, and why, and about the legacy of sequels and limited series. Join us, won't you?? Bruce Edwards' appearance on the pod to talk about 'Blade Runner' (the 2nd-most downloaded episode of FCAC all time) can be found here. Bruce Edwards' appearance on the pod to discuss 'Alien' can be found here. Dan Hartley joining Chris and I (on what would turn out to be Chris' last episode!) to talk about the brilliantly insane 'Star Wars Holiday Special' can be found here. Some clips of David Prowse in the Vader costume performing the physical portion of the role and speaking Vader dialogue later to be replaced by James Earl Jones is here. George Lucas' first film, THX 1138 can be rented here.
Star Wars – The Start of Something Big For our twelfth season, we're looking at franchises and series of films that for one reason or another, we just haven't gotten around to yet. To start things off, we look at the original Star Wars trilogy. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we start this series with George Lucas' 1977 classic Star Wars. What hasn't been said by this point about Star Wars? It's a big question – what do we talk about in a film that seemingly everyone's already talked about? For starters, we chat about our first experiences with this film and how it shaped our youths. We also discuss the Harmy Despecialized edition, as those are the versions we're looking at for this series. What changes has Lucas made to the film over the decades, why, and do they change our approach to the film? There have also been spinoffs of so many types over the years. How does this film change with projects like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Obi-Wan Kenobi? Does it make certain lines of dialogue in this film not work as well? Or are we able to look past that? And how do we define what's canon? The cast is iconic by this point. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Sir Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, David Prowse, James Earl Jones. They all are as much a part of this film and this franchise as it's a part of them. That holds true for the technical teams as well. Effects, sounds, costume, production design, score – it's all a core piece of what this film is. And of course it all comes back to George Lucas and this journey he created based on the Hero's Journey. We have a wide-ranging conversation about the film but it warrants it, so revisit this great film then tune in for a great episode. The Next Reel – when the movie ends, our conversation begins! Star Wars (retroactively titled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope) is a 1977 American epic space opera film written and directed by George Lucas, produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by 20th Century Fox. It stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness, David Prowse, James Earl Jones, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker and Peter Mayhew. It is the first film in the Star Wars film series and fourth chronological chapter of the "Skywalker Saga". Lucas had the idea for a science-fiction film in the vein of Flash Gordon around the time he completed his first film, THX 1138 (1971), and began working on a treatment after the release of American Graffiti (1973). Star Wars takes place "a long time ago", in a fictional universe inhabited by both humans and various alien species; most of the known galaxy is ruled by the tyrannical Galactic Empire, which is only opposed by the Rebel Alliance, a group of freedom fighters. The narrative of the film focuses on the hero journey of Luke Skywalker (Hamill), an everyman who becomes caught in the galactic conflict between the Empire and the Rebellion after coming into possession of two droids, R2-D2 (Baker) and C-3PO (Daniels), the first of whom is carrying the schematics of the Empire's ultimate weapon, the Death Star. While attempting to deliver the droids to the Rebellion, Luke is joined by wizened Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Guinness), who teaches him about the metaphysical power known as "the Force", cynical smuggler Han Solo (Ford), his Wookiee companion Chewbacca (Mayhew), and Rebellion leader Princess Leia (Fisher). Meanwhile, Imperial officers Darth Vader (Prowse, voiced by Jones), a Sith Lord, and Grand Moff Tarkin (Cushing), the commander of the Death Star, seek to retrieve the stolen schematics and locate the Rebellion's secret base. After a turbulent production, Star Wars was released in a limited number of theaters in the United States on May 25, 1977, and quickly became a blockbuster hit, leading to it being expanded to a much wider release. The film opened to critical acclaim, most notably for its groundbreaking visual effects. It grossed a total of $775 million (over $550 million during its initial run), surpassing Jaws (1975) to become the highest-grossing film at the time until the release of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). When adjusted for inflation, Star Wars is the second-highest-grossing film in North America (behind Gone with the Wind) and the fourth-highest-grossing film in the world. It received ten Oscar nominations (including Best Picture), winning seven. In 1989, it became one of the first 25 films that was selected by the U.S. Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".[5][6] At the time, it was the most recent film in the registry and the only one chosen from the 1970s. In 2004, its soundtrack was added to the U.S. National Recording Registry, and was additionally listed by the American Film Institute as the best movie score of all time a year later. Today, it is widely regarded by many in the motion picture industry as one of the greatest and most important films in cinema history. The film has been reissued multiple times with Lucas's support—most significantly with its 20th-anniversary theatrical "Special Edition"—incorporating many changes including modified computer-generated effects, altered dialogue, re-edited shots, remixed soundtracks and added scenes. The film became a pop-cultural phenomenon and launched an industry of tie-in products, including novels, comics, video games, amusement park attractions, and merchandise including toys, games, clothing, and many other spin-off works, including two anthology films and various television series. The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983) followed Star Wars, rounding out the original Star Wars trilogy. Prequel and sequel trilogies that round out the "Skywalker saga" have since been released. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars

For the 10th anniversary of Japandroids' second album, CELEBRATION ROCK, we take a detailed look at how the record was made. After the unlikely success of their debut album, POST-NOTHING, Japandroids found themselves leaving their hometown of Vancouver to tour the world and play to much larger audiences than they ever dreamed of. The expectations for their second album began to build as the band felt tremendous pressure to deliver a followup record that proved they weren't just a one-hit wonder. In between multiple tours, they would record in two-day sessions with longtime engineer/producer, Jesse Gander. Eventually, they rented a house in Nashville to focus on writing the remaining songs for what would become CELEBRATION ROCK. In this episode, David Prowse describes how he and Brian King pushed themselves to make a record that would far surpass any expectations they ever had for the band. Engineer/producer, Jesse Gander, takes us through his first impression of Japandroids and how he was able to capture their unique punk and classic rock-influenced sound. Additionally, author and music critic, Steven Hyden, offers his perspective on Japandroids' embrace of classic rock mythology and why the record connected with so many people. From Brian's attempt at revitalizing classic rock tropes to the difficulty of recording fireworks to capturing the feeling of being young to the unabashed embrace of the power of rock and roll, we'll hear the stories around how the record came together.

Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". At the time, it was the most recent film in the registry and the only one chosen from the 1970s. In 2004, its soundtrack was added to the U.S. National Recording Registry, and was additionally listed by the American Film Institute as the best movie score of all time a year later. Today, it is widely regarded by many in the motion picture industry as one of the greatest and most important films in film history. First time you saw the movie? Plot:A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... The intro crawl tells of a galatic civil war, how the rebels obtained schematics for the imperial death star and we join our heros trying to escape the empire. We then drop into a space battle over a planet. Inside the ship, droids and troops running around, preparing to be boarded. The door explodes and storm troopers enter, and kill all the rebels. Darth Vader menacingly enters and surveys the damage, and moves on. 3P0 sees Leia talking to R2, and they move on. Vader interrogates a rebel, killing him, as they search for the death star plans. Troopers find and stun Leia as the droids escape in an escape pod and crash towards the planet. Leia and Vader talk and Vader accuses her of being a rebel. They can't find the plans, and plan to scuttle the ship, and to track the escape pod thinking the plans are in there. 3P0 and R2 argue about which way to go, and split up. 3P0 thinks he sees a transport and yells for help, and R2 moves into a canyon and is being watched, then ambushed and taken by Jawas. R2 comes to in a storage room with a bunch of other droids, and finds 3P0 again. They're brought out for a line up with other droids and we're introduced to our hero, Luke Skywalker, and his aunt and uncle. 3P0 and R2 are bought and taken to be cleaned up. Luke complains about being on Tatooine, and they officially meet. Luke is working on R2 when he finds a holo recording on Leia asking Obi Wan Kenobi for help. Luke discusses the new droids, who they may belong to, and how he wants to go to the academy early, but Owen shuts that down, that he needs Luke for the harvest. Luke returns to find R2 has taken off, but it's too dangerous to go searching for him with all the sand people around. S:-This is going to be hard, because it's such a good, classic movie. Love the intro/opening.-Love all the classic wipes to change scenes, wasn't really done in movies at this time-What color is 3P0s leg?-Vader voice before being dubbed.-It's incredible how much of this was done practically, the ships and everything.-Luke starts off as a whiny bitch (wanting to go to Toshi station for power converters, complaining about the holo message)-Never realized Uncle Owen calls Obi Wan a "crazy old wizard"-The music when Luke stares at the double sunset... Epic. Just the music in general The next day Luke takes 3P0 searching for R2, and we see sand people tracking them. As Luke is searching for the sand people, he's ambushed, and they go through his speeder, before being run off by some strange noises, and a man in a robe, who checks on Luke and calls R2 out. Luke comes to and explains why he's out so far, and he tells Luke he is, or was Obi Wan Kenobi. They leave to avoid more sand people and Obi Wan then tells Luke about his father, totally altering what has come to be known as canon now... but regardless, then gives Luke his fathers light saber, that he took from him after cutting off his arms and legs and leaving him to die, which he conveniently leaves out. Luke takes one of the most dangerous weapons in the galaxy, and then points it directly at his face. Luke asks how his father died, and Obi Wan again lies to him, and then tells Luke about the force. He then activates the message from Leia, who asks him for help. Obi Wan asks for Lukes help, which he says he can't help, but offers him a ride... How generous. Aboard the imperial ship, imperial officers bicker about security as Vader and Tarkin enter and tell them the emperor has dissolved the remnants of the galatic senate, the last bit of the old republic. An officer questions Vaders commitment to the force, and Vader finds his lack of faith disturbing, as he force chokes him. You think vader ever force chokes himself? At least if he did, if he passed out, he wouldn't die like with a belt. Or does the suit take care of everything for him? Imagine having to take a dump with that thing on. Luke and Obi Wan find the Jawas that sold him the droids, slaughtered, and races home to find his aunt and uncle dead. Aboard the death star, Vader interrogates Leia using a droid. Luke returns to Obi Wan, and agrees to come with him, and learn the ways of the force. They go to Mos Isley for transport, and we see the first use of the force, when the storm troopers decide those are the droids they were looking for. In the cantina, Obi Wan is talking to pilots and Luke finds himself in trouble, when Obi Wan steps in and cuts an arm off... he's got experience doing that. We meet Han Solo and Chewbacca, pilots of the millennium falcon. They strike a deal for passage to Alderran and as they're leaving Solo is stopped by Greedo, and mercenary who is hunting Solo for Jabba the Hut; as Greedo is about to shoot Han, he's instead shot from under the table. On the death star, Leia is said to be resistant to the mind probe, so Tarkin suggests an alternative form of persuasion, and sets course for Alderran. Luke sells his speeder, and he and Obi Wan move to the hanger, they're being followed. In the hanger, Han has a discussion with Jabba about owing him money and they agree to an extra 15%. Storm Troopers show up and they take off. In space, they're being pursued by imperial ships, but make the jump to light speed. S:-Why doesn't Obi Wan recognize R2?-It's funny how much the cannon has changed, the back story about Vader, Obi Wan, and so on.-Still had the edit where Greedo and Han shoot at the same time. HAN SHOT FIRST. Also, what's with "muclunky"?-"ma klounkee" which translates to "it'll be the end of you." It's been said before in the Star Wars saga: Sebulba says it to Anakin in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace... So the prequel. The death star approaches alderran, and Tarkin tells Leia he's going to show the destructive power of the death star by destroying Alderran, she gives up the location of the rebel base, but destroys Alderaan anyway. Obi Wan feels the disturbance in the force, but tells Luke to keep training. Han gives his world view about not believing in the force, and being a huge poopy pants. Leia is shown to have given the empire bad intel about the rebel base, big surprise, and Tarkin wants her executed. Luke and the crew arrive to find Alderran no longer there, as they pursue a tie fighter, they're caught in a tractor beam and pulled on to the death star. After a search, no one is found; they're shown to be hiding in smuggling compartments. They get some storm troopers to come on board, and steal their armor. They infiltrate the communications room and determine how to disable the tractor beam, and Obi Wan takes off. R2 locates Leia; Luke wants to rescue her, and convinces Han to help by appealing to his greed... and promises of blowies. Not really. As they make their way to the detention block, Obi Wan is sneaking around and Vader can sense him. They spring their plan and take over the detention block. Luke gets Leia out of her cell, meanwhile Vader is telling Tarkin he senses Obi Wan. Troopers invade the detention block and they're trapped. They escape down a trash shoot... That's, weirdly, in the middle of a hallway in the detention block. In the trash, something pulls Luke underwater, but then lets him go for some reason...which we then find out is the walls start closing in, compacting. They call 3P0 for help, but he doesn't respond. When he remembers to turn the com link on, they have the compactor shut down and they're saved. Obi Wan, still sneaking around, finds and disables the tractor beam... in a cavernous room and a panel with no railing. As they start back to the ship, they're split up and chased by troopers. Luke and Leia are trapped without a bridge, but swing to safety with a kiss for luck *gross*. As they run, Obi Wan finds Vader waiting for him, and they duel. Obi Wan warns Vader if the strikes him down, he'll become more powerful than he can imagine. The duel draws the attention of the troopers guarding the Falcon, and they all move. Luke sees what's happening and Obi Wan sacrifices himself, disappearing and becoming one with the force. As Luke fires, he hears Obi Wans voice telling him to run, and they take off. Luke is upset, but has to help Han fight off the tie fighters to escape. They defeat the fighters and celebrate... but Tarkin reveals he had a tracking beacon put on the ship. S:-Why does a planet blow up like that?-After jumping down the garbage chute, why didn't the troopers just follow them?-Han shoots the wall then they first get down there, and it bounces all over, but when he shoots in the water at the tentacle around Luke, no bouncing.-Why are there such cavernous rooms like that in a ship? It's a huge waste of vertical space.-I still don't understand the orientation of the guns on the Falcon. They climb ladders up and down, but it looks like they're across from each other. They arrive at a rebel base on Yavin moon, to have the schematics analyzed to see if there is a weakness to the death star; but the death star isn't far behind. They find a small thermal exhaust port that leads directly to the core, and are told a direct hit with a proton torpedo will start a chain reaction and destroy the station. Luke explains how he was a sociopath back on Tatooine saying he used to bullseye wamp rats similar in size to the exhaust port, so the shot isn't impossible. Makes you wonder if he also wet the bed, and started fires, too? He does kill a lot of people, maybe he's actually a serial killer and he's feeding his dark passenger? Just a thought. The death star orbits the planet to destroy the moon in ~30 minutes. Luke finds Han packing up, and guilt trips him. Luke speaks with Leia, and is still mopy about Obi Wan; as he preps and takes off, he hears Obi Wan again, telling him the force will be with him. They take off and begin their attack mission. As they attack the ship, Luke continues to hear Obi Wan, and the tie fighters attack. The bombers start their run, but they're attacked by Vader and his tie escort and destroyed. Tarkin is told there is a chance of an issue, but he dismisses the threat. The x-wings make a run, and again Vader attacks destroying 2/3 ships. A shot is taken at the exhaust port, but misses. Luke tells the remaining pilots they're going in full speed... Wedge asks if he can pull out at that speed, which Luke replies, "I'm a man, not a couch. I don't pull out." He wants to make the death star his twinkie, not a toaster strudle. They start their run, and Vader again comes in. Picking off the ships, one after another, the move to shoot Lukes... as he approaches the exhaust port, he hears Obi Wan again, to use the force. Vader comments that he feel he's strong with the force, he switches off his targeting computer, the death star is shown in firing range of the rebel base, as Vader takes his shot, Han shows back up and saves Luke, who fires the torpedo into the exhaust port right as the station powers up to destroy the rebel base, and it blows up. Back at the base, they all celebrate, even though R2 is damaged. A ceremony is shown where Leia presents Han and Luke with medals... but not Chewie. That bitch. Probably upset because he got a red rocket one time around her, but he's a young wookie and can't help himself sometimes. Give the guy a break, damn. Oh, and R2 is shown to be fine. The gathered crowd applauds them and cut to credits. S:-As involved as 3P0 and R2 was in the prequels and other shows (Rebels and Clone Wars, how does NO ONE remember C3P0 and R2?!?!-Was there ever really any explanation as to why Chewie didn't get a medal? In this episode of Parallel Fiction, Heather and Jeff highlight Heroes & Villains in two classic pieces of work. Beginning with light banter, Heather presents Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Heather offers a summary of the work, going over the poor treatment of main character Harry Potter by teachers, adoptive parents, and school bullies. Heroes Harry, Ron, and Hermione overcome great odds and defeat evil they have been destined to combat. Heather offers her candid thoughts on writer J.K. Rowling's recent fall from grace in the public eye, and a hopeful look at how to enjoy the Harry Potter series while holding Rowling accountable for hate-speech. Did you know? In England, the original title is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone. Rumor has it that the word “Philosopher” would be too bland for American children and the switch was made to “Sorcerer”. In the second presentation, Jeff summarizes the globally celebrated classic Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Explained in colorful detail, Jeff pulls iconic quotes from Jedi master Yoda, relating how heroism isn't defined by violence or impulsiveness. Rather, a true hero draws his power from peace. Jeff gives light production notes from the filming Fun Fact! During the filming of the “I am your father” scene, Darth Vader actor David Prowse delivered the line “Obi-Wan killed your father”. The line was changed in post production to keep the secret until the film premiered. Tune in to hear Jeff and Heather's candid thoughts on the masterpiece scenes of each story, how Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back compare, and how Jeff and Heather relate to aspects of each. Share this episode with anyone who you think would enjoy it and let us know who your favorite Heroes and Villains are!
