In this episode, we get two epic storylines back to back. First, in “Dead Heat,” the Lightning Brigade faces the evil Savitar, who treats superspeed like a religion and has an army of ninjas to back him up. Next, “Race Against Time” finds Wally West lost in the future while a new Flash protects Keystone City (and makes time with Linda Park). But we're less enthused about these stories than earlier highlights like “The Return of Barry Allen” and “Terminal Velocity.” Was writer Mark Waid starting to be stretched a little too thin as he ascended to the ranks of industry superstar, or are your humble hosts just running out of gas? Or maybe there's just something funny about this Savitar guy… There's a Fifth Week Bonus episode coming in October! Sign up now at patreon.com/ironageofcomics so you won't miss it!
Terminal Velocity Directed by Deran Serafian Starring Charlie Sheen, Nastassia Kinski A skydiving instructor is plunged into the world of international espionage when one of his pupils falls to her death. When he is blamed for her death and his training centre is closed down, he becomes suspicious and decides to investigate. The Scout Directed by Michael Ritchie Starring Albert Brooks, Brendan Fraser Al Percolo (Albert Brooks), a scout for the New York Yankees, is sent to Mexico after his latest prospect (Michael Rapaport) has a breakdown on the field. In Mexico, Al attends a local baseball game in which Steve Nebraska (Brendan Fraser) is playing and is impressed when he witnesses Steve's fastball and his home runs. Al returns to New York with Steve and gets him signed to the Yankees. But, as Steve begins to behave strangely, Al is told he must bring him to a psychiatrist (Dianne Wiest).
This week on Stasis Pod: Bumblebee does some unguided deep-diving into his memories and finds something pretty damn traumatic, then Windblade helps him remember why Shadow Striker hates him so much. But isn’t it a little cringe to have Bumblebee as your nemesis? And what the hell just happened on Velocitron!? WHY DOES THE EPISODE END LIKE THAT!? Join us this week for the Cyberverse episodes “Terminal Velocity” and “Shadowstriker”!
It's another big everything-changes-forever epic as Mark Waid hits “Terminal Velocity.” The discovery of the Speed Force as the source of superspeed in the DC Universe is transforming Wally West emotionally and physically, and his future with Linda Park is at stake. True love conquers all (sorry for the spoiler), but they won't necessarily live happily ever as they have to pick up the pieces after the fairytale ending. We'll discuss Wally's often-frustrating tendency to keep his loved ones in the dark and debate whether it matters that the villain of the piece is a bit generic. Because comic fans need to rank things, we'll also weigh in on whether “Terminal Velocity” or “The Return of Barry Allen” is the highlight of the run. All this plus Mirror Master and some kind of Lovecraftian monster, too! Discussed in this episode: Flash #0 and 95-105, plus Flash Annual #8 (1996). “There is a terminal velocity for us all!” - Steve, on death On this week's episode, SHEENPRIL takes to the skies… and dives into a great conversation about the outrageous skydiving-centric action movie, Terminal Velocity! Is James Gandolfini believable as a Russian heavy? Has there been better skydiving stunts in a major motion picture? How humiliating is it to die by drowning in your own fish tank? And why would an eight year-old kid want a skydiver to land at their birthday party? PLUS: What's wrong with a little Tasteful Shadow? Terminal Velocity stars Charlie Sheen, Nastassja Kinski, Christiopher McDonald, Melvin van Peebles, Hans Howes, Margaret Colin, Suli McCullough, Gary Bullock, and James Gandolfini as Ben Pinkwater; directed by Deran Sarafian. We are getting into a skydiving battle with Drop Zone vs Terminal Velocity.
1994 gave us not one, but two skydiving action thrillers, so Charlie and George thought it was only fair to revisit, review and compare both Drop Zone and Terminal Velocity. It's Wesley Snipes vs Charlie Sheen. It's Gary B (that's Busey) vs the KG - Used to Be. There can only be one victor, but who are the boys backing? The results may surprise you! Richard ‘Ditch' Brodie (Charlie Sheen) is the bad boy of the sky. If you are into that, you know all about Ditch's antics around Arizona. He becomes insta-smitten upon meeting a hesitant student, Chris (Nastassja Kinski), wanting to skydive for the first time. His over-the-top flirtations distract him, and the fun day out turns brutal. But not all is what it seems. Was she former KGB? There is gold! The Russian mafia wants that gold! James Gandolfini might want some of that gold! You know Christopher McDonald wants that sweet, sweet gold! There is intrigue and espionage but there is sky gold! RTS will be watching all of this safely from the ground. What kind of drinks do they have around these parts? La-Mar will be keeping his distance from Sheen-shenie but will also be taking some of that tantalizing gold. Ditch highlights his former Olympian days. Is this Gymkata in the sky? They wish!
Get ready to experience roughy 30-35% pure adrenaline with three totally awesome extreme thrillers that totally rip off Point Break! But are you crazy enough? TERMINAL VELOCITY (1994, Deran Sarafian) DROP ZONE (1994, John Badham) EXTREME OPS (2002, Christian Duguay)

This week, your friends Count Vardulon and DM are joined by Rob Rector to wrap up 90s November with two more extreme movies, this time about skydiving. Opinions are split as to whether Drop Zone or Terminal Velocity is the better movie. Tune in for a TV recommendation, and stay for an extreme list.
It's Die Hard in a skydiving spy caper! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a flying penis! For this episode, Phil and Liam are joined by special guest Rob Hackett, a producer for James Wan's company Atomic Monster and a HUGE fan of this wacky1994 skydiving flick. Rob has actually worked with TERMINAL VELOCITY's director Deran Sarafian, giving him a unique insight into Sarafian's personality, history and creative process. The film's premise is as follows. After a mysterious woman named Chris Morrow (Nastassja Kinski) seemingly falls to her death during an attempted tandem parachute jump, daredevil skydiver Ditch Brodie (Charlie Sheen) is deemed to be responsible. When Ditch begins his own investigation into what really happened, he finds himself plunged into a deadly world of intrigue and international espionage...where nothing is what it seems.Rob discusses his memories of seeing the film on opening night, and how it became a comfort-blanket film for him over the ensuing decades. This video-store classic straddles many genres: action, thriller, spy movie, Western and film noir, giving the guys plenty to discuss as they analyze its anatomical parts. It has also has some particularly strong connections to DIE HARD 2, which makes for some interesting discoveries in the ‘Die Hard DNA' section. The fellas talk about Charlie Sheen's brief run as an early-90s action star, the daring casting of Natassja Kinski as the film's real hero, and the two colorful villlains of the piece, played by James Gandolfini and Christopher McDonald. They also dig into the film's sexual politics, and debate whether the movie is attempting to be progressive in its subversion of traditional gender roles. The guys then parachute down to the ‘Die Hard Oscars' to hand out some awards, before Rob and Liam go head to head in the ‘Double Jeopardy Trivia Quiz'! This is the first time publishing an episode that I hesitated given the information I was revealing about our personal lives. ******************************* This podcast is the audio recording of the journal I've been keeping since the day we got on the road in the middle of a global pandemic to go racing. Shamelessly authentic and always with a sense of humor, I hope this story gives you a look behind the sheen of social media-- the shiny posts about racing, travel, and of course, eating, and sheds light on what it's really like to be a family taking risks and living life on the road. Disney rebounded from a difficult August 1994 with a September that brought critical acclaim but not the greatest box office results. First up, Touchstone presents a more serious Steve Martin with A SIMPLE TWIST OF FATE - both Mike and Chad lauded the performances and the subtle hints of humor, but the third act doomed the film. Thankfully, Hollywood Pictures gave the co-hosts two enjoyable films to discuss in the back half of this episode: QUIZ SHOW, the epic Best Picture nominee with a stellar cast; and TERMINAL VELOCITY, a very fun popcorn film that likely would have done better had it been released during that tumultous prior month for Disney. We've got hermits raising orphans! We've got congressional hearings about TV! We've got...blond-haired Russian gangsters!?!? It's a jam-packed podcast!!
