June 15th is a SUPER exciting day for rising juniors in high school. This is the day where NCAA coaches can verbally offer them a spot on their team and for the top recruits in the country and it can feel like Black Friday in terms of trying to make a decision before the spot is taken by another recruit. Recruiting doesn't end on June 15th and continues the rest of junior year and into senior year for college-hopeful gymnasts. There is a LOT that goes on years prior to this day for your gymnast if they want to be a competitive recruit that gets scooped up at some point between this and when they graduate high school. Here's what parents can do with nutrition to help their gymnast reach their big goal and dream!1) Keep them healthy 2) Leverage nutrition from an early age to help them continually progress in the sport 3) Help build their repertoire of skills and maturity that coaches are looking for (which includes being able to fuel oneself in college when parents aren't around)Links & Resources The Balanced Gymnast® Program for level 5-10 female gymnasts Episode 45: What College Bound Gymnasts Need to Know about Nutrition with Tiffany Campbell MS, RD, CSSD, CBDTEpisode 29: NCAA Gymnastics Recruiting and Nutrition- The Need to Know with Special Guest Jill HicksConnect with Christina on Instagram @the.gymnast.nutritionist or christinaandersonrdn.com
SunDevilSource's Chris Karpman and Blake Niemann explain and evaluate the NCAA's findings in ASU's mitigated level-1 recruiting infractions case. The ASU program will be on probation for the next four years and face punishments that align with a penalty matrix that is the lowest of three tiers for Level I infractions. Individual show-cause penalties against four former staffers, including Herm Edwards, were objectively much more severe. We'll have the details on the implications of these infractions and how they will impact Sun Devil athletics moving forward.
On this episode, Hunter, Jackson, and Tanner engage in a discussion about the legal implications of Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) and Tennessee & Virginia's Attorney General suits against the NCAA. -Jake saw the question posed on Twitter yesterday and was curious about the responses. Based on what he saw, the lean was more to transfer portal signings than it was to recruiting classes-It makes you wonder what the elite coaches and teams think about the question. The College Metropolis Podcast: College Admissions Talk for High School Students and Parents
#051 – The percentage of high school students that receive scholarships to Division I and Division II NCAA teams is surprisingly low. That leaves millions of high school kids without the opportunity to benefit from them each year. But does that mean that students who do not receive scholarships wasted valuable time participating in sports throughout high school? On this episode, we answer this and other questions related to high school sports. We will give you a hint, high school sports provide a big window through which college admission officers and college admission boards can learn about the character of a student, their ability to commit to an end result, and their level of resilience, among other qualities. Jankel and I talk about the different ways in which students can help their chances for admission to college through successful participation in high school sports, playing in varsity teams, and holding positions of leadership in a team. We also explain how high school sports may tell an altogether different story to college admission officers when compared to other extracurricular activities. Towards the end of the episode, I share a little of what was my experience with high school sports. You can find our show notes at https://collegemetropolis.com/51. You may help us efforts greatly by sharing our podcast with other people you know, who may benefit from the content we create each week. President of Student Athletes Advocate Scott Laigo is my guest this week. Scott helps student-athletes and their parents navigate through the recruiting and NCAA eligibility process. Saadvocates.org is a non-profit organization that will help you navigate the system, scholarships, grades, and more. Scott and I discuss this past season in college football, and especially how the playoff system needs to be fixed and why. February 3rd is decision day for HS seniors, but the transfer portal is a new wrinkle that student-athletes and coaches now have to take into account. Transferring may sound like an opportunity, but be aware of the pitfalls that lay ahead. Larry Scott is out, but who's in? We discuss why it's imperative to get someone in as President sooner than later before certain opportunities are lost to other conferences. This spring the FCS will be playing, and local schools will be trying to complete a season. Can fall, winter, and spring sports all coexist? What health concerns may lie ahead, and whom does that burden fall on? It's a great show with the former football coach.
