It was launched with the Neo Geo, an arcade system (called MVS) with a home console counterpart (AES). Games on the Neo Geo (MVS and AES) were well received and it spawned several long-running and critically acclaimed series, mostly 2D fighters. Later, SNK released the Neo Geo CD, a more cost-effective console with games released on compact discs, which was met with limited success. A new arcade system, Hyper Neo Geo 64, was released in 1997, but it did not fare well. SNK also released a handheld console under the brand, the Neo Geo Pocket, which was quickly succeeded by the Neo Geo Pocket Color, which have been given praise despite its short lifetime. ________________________________________________________________________ Grab a beer, a slice of pizza and come hang out with us. The word “faselei” means “babble” in German, which is a better description of this podcast than this game. Faselei!, our first Neo Geo Pocket Color game, is actually kind of neat… a turn-based tactics game with a very unique action system. The problem is, it's about mechs… about which we have little to say. So instead we talk about inhalants, that wonderful feeling of finally identifying a half-remembered game from your childhood, and the bizarre ceremony of hockey games.
Grab your nearest mech suit, install a couple of upgradable weapons, and join me as we discuss one of the best titles on the Neo Geo Pocket Color, Biomotor Unitron! Learn how the game was made, discover why another pop culture fad from the 90s heavily inspired its creation, and find out whether it's still worth your time to attempt to become the Unitron Master of Masters, even today. Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. First things first, apologies for the little bit of extra background noise this week — it's nothing terrible, but we always like to give a quick heads up when there's any audio issues. That said, we've got the whole crew in the house once again and, as per usual, all sorts of video game goodness to discuss... John gets us started off with his thoughts on the neo retro 3D metroidvania, Pseudoregalia, after getting completely sucked in by its expressive movement & combat systems! After that, Kevin gives a quick shoutout to a couple of metroidvania-adjacent games that he got a chance to play during his recent Chicago trip — including spending some more time with Gunbrella, and a few couch co-op sessions with Nobody Saves the World (with PP podcast veteran, DJ). Finally, Randall wraps things up with some more Neo Geo Pocket Color action — including the fact that he recently scooped up a modded NGPC handheld console — as he digs into SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash. Timestamps: Pseudoregalia - 00:01:34 Gunbrella - 00:12:12 Nobody Saves the World - 00:18:35 SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash - 00:25:00 Thanks for taking the time to listen! This week, we take a brief foray into the News, because we've unfortunately willed a Chrono Cross remake into this bitch of an Earth. Betty White, meanwhile, continues to live. Anyway, I give some brief thoughts on Call of Duty: Vanguard, we get a bit deeper into Shin Megami Tensei V, and then in Retro Corner, George talks about an all-time classic: VICE: Project DOOM for the NES. Then he also talked about Sonic the Hedgehog: Pocket Adventure, for the Neo-Geo Pocket Color. That shouldn't surprise anybody. No olvidéis dejarnos vuestros comentarios y sugerencias: Mail: arqueologia.nintendo@gmail.com Twitter: @PodcastNintendo
Sonic's adventure continues this week but on this occasion he's racing onto the small screen of SNK's Neo Geo Pocket Color with a handheld adventure that mashes up level designs from the 16-bit Sonic 2 and music mostly taken from Sonic 3. Tune in to find out if the little SNK does Sonic music justice - we think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
This time we're talking about a lesser known game for the Neo Geo Pocket Color. Well... huh. A lot of people responded positively to that E3 Let's Place. Apparently some of you like this garbage??? In that case, who am I to keep it from you. This week, I'm joined by Chelsea, Crystal, Simon and Molly to talk about cute independent adventure games, Neo Geo sports, bespoke doujin fighters, video games that committed treason against the U.S. Government, and that critical darling of 2015, Bl'db'rn'.
Taking the show on the road, the squad kicks the tires on some handheld games. Featuring portable games such as Kirby's Dream Land, Donkey Kong, and SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium, we're poised at the ready with batteries in hand. We also turn our attention to the Neo-Geo Pocket Color, as we cover the basics of this nifty underdog system. And lastly, we have our final community pick of the show in the form of The Firemen on the Super NES. Keeping the fun in our pockets, it's Retro Game Squad, baby!!!

Back in the 90’s the Sonic the Hedgehog series was in its prime – literally running over the competition. In late 1999/early 2000, SNK capitalized on this fan favorite by licensing Sonic and his friends for the Neo Geo Pocket Color. This entry (in the now, veteran franchise) would be know as Sonic the Hedgehog: Pocket… Read More »

David and Evan make their long-awaited return to talk about Magic Knight Rayearth, Fruits Basket, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Darker Than Black, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Summer 2012 anime, the Neo Geo Pocket Color, and … Animorphs? This show was recorded LIVE in Evan’s apartment, which means it has approximately 50% better jokes and 70% fewer awkward pauses than a typical episode of the Ani-Gamers Podcast (based on real science). We tried a slightly different, slightly looser format than usual for this episode. Drop us a line at our email address (linked below) if you like it! Show notes and links after the break. DIRECT DOWNLOAD – RSS Feed – iTunes – Send us Feedback! – More episodes (Runtime: 47 minutes) [0:00:00] Syncing with a clap is pretty meaningless when you’re in the same room. [0:00:15] Intro: “Kill Me” by Lame Drivers [0:00:33] Welcome! Our hosts are Ani-Gamers bloggers Evan Minto and David Estrella! [0:01:27] We partnered with Crunchyroll News to cross-post our content. Cool stuff. [0:03:52] “What’cha Been Doing?” Evan starts with his self-education in shojo manga via Magic Knight Rayearth and Fruits Basket. Also Evan keeps talking about how much he loves Mars. [0:13:55] David hasn’t been watching anime from the Summer 2012 season. What this really means is he’s been “barely” watching anime. Evan is the true master of actually not watching anything. Series include Joshiraku and Hyouka. David also hates on Kids on the Slope. [0:20:14] Evan’s watching Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. [0:28:06] Evan and David are both watching Darker Than Black (David’s already seen it). [0:31:33] Evan is playing Batman: Arkham Asylum, which is pretty OK. [0:33:37] Superhero Comics? Huh? Evan read Avengers: Disassembled in an attempt to introduce himself to Avengers comics. It was… kinda lame and confusing. David read a Hawkeye comic that was extremely purple and also pretty good. Both bought from Aquilonia Comics. [0:36:58] News: The Rose of Versailles anime got licensed! [0:38:42] News: The Wii U has a release date and a bunch of super-weak launch games. Get your Nintendo goggles on! [0:42:01] David bought a Neo Geo Pocket Color from Pastime Legends, which is pretty rad. [0:44:45] News: Genericon dates are out! March 1-3 in Troy, NY! [0:45:45] Leave a comment! Send us an email! Review us on iTunes! Follow us on Twitter (Ani-Gamers, Evan, and David)! Read Otaku USA Magazine! [0:46:50] Outro: “Kill Me” by Lame Drivers
