The global economy is in a tumultuous state, inflation has carved away everyone's purchasing power, and prices are almost universally going up. So naturally, PlayStation will follow suit and jack its rates up too, right? Well, no. Instead, they're doing the exact opposite of what seems natural: For their annual, weeks-long Days of Play sales event, Sony has slashed prices on PS5 and PS5 Pro, PSVR2 and DualSense, and even DualSense Edge and the Access controller. Is Sony's boldness in risking economic erosion worth it? Is its strategy simply to put its boot on Xbox's neck once and for all? We discuss. Plus: If all went according to plan, The Order: 1886 would have gotten two sequels, EA cancels its Black Panther project while shutting down the studio behind it, Build A Rocket Boy suggests there may be a paid, organized campaign against its upcoming title MindsEye, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What does Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's success mean for the future of global JRPGs? Could Star Wars Battlefront be revived on the basis of a recent resurgence in popularity? Is Colin ignoring an obvious connection between Souls games and his beloved Castlevania? Should we invest thousands in a commemorative Concord plaque, currently for sale on an online auction site? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement. The last couple of weeks for Bungie have been nothing short of catastrophic, calling into question whether their upcoming extraction shooter Marathon has any chance at all in finding market success. We've long discussed whether Sony should have bought Bungie at all (they shouldn't have), but now that they're so deeply invested, how do they get the team out of this mess? And what does all of this hullabaloo -- about stolen art, poorly-reviewed gameplay, and lackluster audience reaction -- say about the team's future, full stop? Meanwhile, things aren't much better north of the border, where Quebec-based Haven recently parted ways with founder and once-famous producer Jade Raymond, who has now left three different teams without any sort of release. Is Fairgame$ DOA? Maybe not, but we have lots of new information on the recent closed test of the game under the moniker Project Hearts, and... well... it's not sounding great. Also: MLB: The Show is seemingly getting a mobile release, PlayStation Stars is going away unceremoniously, Stellar Blade 2 is in active development, Xbox's Hellblade II is coming to PS5, Kojima's Physint is at least five more years away, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Keeping in mind Sony's typical naming conventions, what will PlayStation 6's controller be called? Do we also find delight in Darth Vader's AI voice in Fortnite? Is the PS5 Pro truly worth purchasing before prices likely go up? Has Chris ever seen a ghost? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement.Timestamps: 0:00:00 - Intro00:44:13 - Best man bromance00:46:03 - ghoul-ing01:04:41 - Haven/Jade Raymond reflections01:37:51 - Bungie art theft reflections02:33:15 - MLB: The Show mobile02:38:25 - PlayStation Stars is over02:51:24 - Stellar Blade sequel coming02:56:49 - Kojima's next game is far off03:01:41 - Hellblade 2 is coming to PS503:05:56 - Randy Pitchford on Borderlands 4 pricing03:26:21 - Circana data03:35:21 - New Naughty Dog logo03:37:18 - Doom: The Dark Ages surpasses three million players03:40:44 - What Are We Playing (Doom The Dark Ages, Stardew Valley, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Shovel Knight Dig)04:05:34 - Iconic PlayStation Games04:16:19 - ChatGPT game hints04:19:15 - DualSense 2?4:22:38 - AI Vader in Fortnite04:28:19 - "Editions" releases04:35:04 - Current thoughts on PS5 Pro Learn more about your ad choices. Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan and Kris conclude their coverage of the summer games extravaganza they lovingly refer to as Not E3! This time around, Nintendo hit it big with their June Direct, including a number of big surprises like a new Mario & Luigi, Zelda starring Zelda, and Metroid Prime 4. Atooi also farted out a rather unimpressive Hatch Tales deepdive, Limited Run got weird with this year's LRG3, and Sunsoft made a 6 minute presentation about 3 games. Which was certainly a choice. At the top of the show, Dan still doesn't have news about his ongoing health issues, but he did manage to be stressed about it all week! So instead of playing games, he talked about the trials and tribulations of being a toy collector. Meanwhile, Kris celebrated his birthday week with some delicious food, Game Boy Mega Man games, and the glory that is Shovel Knight Dig. . Finally, in Week Old News, FromSoftware decides NOT to fire a bunch of people, a bunch of long thought lost games resurface for various platforms, someone has decided to port Doom II to Super NES, and more. CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 is currently experiencing something of a redemption arc. Does the (hugely) troubled RPG necessarily deserve said arc, though? Well…yes, but also no. This week on Axe of the Blood God, Kat, Nadia, and Eric invite Normandy FM's Kenneth Shepard for a chat about the state of Cyberpunk 2077, as well as what the future holds for the game—and for CD Projekt Red. Also in this episode: RIP Google Stadia, we hardly knew ye. Downwell fans will "dig" Shovel Knight Dig. Heh, that's a good one. "Dig." Autumn of Avatar continues. Toph has joined the party! Forget Cyberpunk. It is all about Cybertwunk now. POST SHOW Cyberpunk 2077's recent renaissance is owed to Cyberpunk Edgerunners, a Netflix series based on CD Projekt's RPG. Eric and special guest Kenneth Shepard talk about what makes the series good enough to bolster its troubled source material. Predictably, all semblance of civilized discussion unravels about midway through the discussion and everyone just yells at each other about Star Wars for the rest of the post show's run time. Available to listeners in the Stars of Destiny tier!

A shorter episode somehow spends 15 minutes on Cado's new pets, parasitic wasps meant to eat moth eggs. Yuck. If that sounds nightmarish, just wait; Ren takes us into the chrome-infused hell of the very fast Hyper Demon. Cado's also vibing with the absurdist Betrayal at Club Low, a new Cosmo D joint, and Patrick is surprised by Shovel Knight Dig, a Shovel Knight spin-off that's gotten its hooks (or shovel?) in him. Then, we get into a spooky question bucket where we talk about Ghosts, Aliens, and Alien Ghosts.Discussed: Hyper Demon 15:41, Betrayal at Club Low 32:49, Return to Monkey Island 46:40, Shovel Knight Dig 47:29, The Question Bucket 54:26, Outro and Announcements 1:10:40 Hosted on Acast. After being relatively low-key for the past few years, Shovel Knight Dig is finally getting released! Th3HoopMan and Luke Lewis, from the LukeWarmGames podcast, received review copies last week and are giving you their thoughts on the latest installment in the Shovel Knight franchise. Unfortunately, Arsene did not get a copy so he will have to be sad and wait to play the game like the rest of you folks. -------- Luke https://twitter.com/lukewarmlewis #FKM Discord https://playerplayerpod.com/discord Website http://playerplayerpod.com/ Twitter https://twitter.com/playerplayerpod Intro Music Provided by Aaron Miller https://www.instagram.com/themillerchild Joseph https://twitter.com/th3hoopman Arsene https://twitter.com/paxarsenica Kofi https://ko-fi.com/th3hoopman
Sean is gone to PAX this week so Paul and Jon hold down the fort. Jon has been playing Rolling Thunder 3 from the Genesis days in his spare time and showing off Demon Throttle (the last physical-only release in this day and age) and a cool tower defense game called ORX while Paul finishes Cult of the Lamb and plays a bunch of Fortnite. Paul reached out to the audience this week to send him all the news they wanted and we run down a bunch of stuff, including a new Assassin's Creed is going to be shown soon, Shovel Knight Dig is out in a month and Ubisoft is trying to keep people happy, amongst many, many, many, many other topics.
