The green card application process has become more confusing in recent weeks. In May, the Trump administration sent out a memo saying applicants inside the U.S. would need to leave the country and apply from their home country. The change could have affected tens of thousands of Washington residents, some of whom have waited years to complete the last step to become a U.S. citizen. But then, the week following that announcement – the Trump administration appeared to partially walk back the change. The back-to-back announcements panicked many hoping to get their green cards. A lot of unanswered questions remain, so Soundside spoke with a Seattle immigration attorney about how she's working through this moment. This episode of the Dan Caplis Show is a thought-provoking discussion that delves into the complexities of a recent lawsuit seeking to expand Colorado's ban on female genital mutilation to also prohibit male circumcision. The speaker shares his concerns about the potential implications of this lawsuit and the motivations behind it, highlighting the need for a nuanced understanding of the issue. The conversation touches on the differences between female genital mutilation and male circumcision, with the speaker emphasizing that these are two distinct practices with different consequences. He also discusses the importance of respecting religious freedom and the potential for this lawsuit to be struck down as unconstitutional. The speaker's thoughts are sparked by a Denver Post article that reveals the Colorado Democrats' stance on female genital mutilation, which he finds disturbing. The episode also explores the idea that the lawsuit may be an attempt to intimidate and censor people who hold certain beliefs, particularly those related to religious freedom. The speaker shares his concerns about the Democrats' approach to issues like this, suggesting that they may be more interested in advancing their own ideology than in upholding the law. If you're interested in hearing more about this complex and thought-provoking topic, tune in to this episode of the Dan Caplis Show to hear the speaker's full discussion and insights.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Show Notes For ten years, Ed Skoudis has curated one of the most anticipated sessions at RSAC Conference: SANS' "Five Most Dangerous New Attack Techniques: Crucial Tips for Defenders." The session has always been a hit -- standing room only on the main stage -- but this year, Ed says something has changed. Not one or two topics with an AI component. All five. Ed is deliberate about how the session comes together. He starts with people, not topics. He builds the panel around SANS instructors who bring front-line insight, and he starts the process six months out. This year's panel features returning panelist Heather Mahalik, Rob Teeley back for his second year, Joshua Wright in his second year -- this time carrying two topics and eight minutes instead of six -- and, making his first appearance on this stage, Robert M. Lee of Dragos, one of the world's foremost voices on ICS and OT security. The addition of "Crucial Tips for Defenders" to the title this year was intentional. Ed pushed every panelist to move beyond naming threats and toward prescribing action -- practical, implementable steps that a CISO can hand down and a practitioner can execute the next morning. For topics where prevention is impossible, the mandate shifted to detection and response. SANS publishes session notes to their website within minutes of the talk ending. The backdrop this year is a warning Ed calls unlike anything in his 30 years of attending RSA and DEF CON. At a recent AI cybersecurity conference in San Francisco, presenters from Google and Anthropic outlined what Google termed the "vuln apocalypse" -- an imminent surge in AI-discovered zero-day vulnerabilities at a scale and pace that patching pipelines are not designed to handle. Ed's own team at Counter Hack has already experienced this firsthand: a frontier AI model identified a critical zero-day in a widely used open source project in a matter of hours. The Anthropic presenter's claim was blunt: within months, AI will surpass all human vulnerability researchers combined. All of this lands at the center of what the RSAC session is designed to address -- not as a theoretical exercise, but as a set of actions defenders can take right now. The session runs Tuesday, March 24th at 3:55 PM on the main stage, with an interactive follow-on session Wednesday morning where attendees can go deeper with individual panelists. For anyone who wants to understand where the threat landscape is actually heading and what to do about it, Ed says this is the year you cannot afford to miss it. In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss some recent major court decisions that put parental authority and responsibility in the spotlight. The first was a Supreme Court ruling that California schools must notify the parents if a student expresses their desire to change their gender. The second was a case in Georgia, where a father was found guilty of murder and manslaughter for the crime committed by his son; guilty because he failed to heed clear warning signs in his son's behavior. Episode Links Dr. White wrote a recent blog on this topic titled, “Parental Rights and Responsibilities,” which you can read HERE. He also referenced another blog that he wrote called “The New Attack on Parenting,” which you can read HERE. And then here are two recent headlines that you can read for more information about both court cases referenced above: James Romoser, “Supreme Court Says California Schools Should Notify Parents About Student Gender Changes,” The Wall Street Journal. Rick Rojas and Johnny Kauffman, “Father's Murder Conviction in School Attack Puts New Onus on Parents,” The New York Times. Another recent case from the Supreme Court awarded parents $1.5M over LGBTQ books saying that parents should have “the final say” on their children's education. You can read the article titled “Religious parents awarded $1.5M after Supreme Court win in LGBTQ+ books case“ HERE. Dr. White spoke of the importance of the role of parents in the lives of their children; specifically, that they need to be involved, informed and in charge. He has incredibly helpful messages that he's given at Mecklenburg Community Church under the banner of “Marriage and Family,” which you can find HERE. It would also be helpful to listen to the installments of a series simply titled, “Gender.” Finally, if you've missed past podcast episodes related to parents and children, we'd encourage you to go back and listen to these episodes: CCP176: On Parents and Grandparents, CCP170: On Teens and Their Online World, CCP161: On “Adolescence”, CCP98: On Generation Alpha and CCP60: On Gentle Parenting. In this urgent episode ripped from the top political and national security headlines, host Paul Rieckhoff talks with the only truly Independent Senator and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee: Maine's Angus King. King returns to the show to answer tough questions, share the latest from inside the Senate, and break down Hegseth's "kill everybody" directive amid shifting stories on the strikes that killed dozens, including survivors in the water—explicitly cited as illegal in the DoD Law of War Manual. Paul presses King on the need for public hearings, Admiral Bradley's pending testimony about strike orders, the mysterious resignation of Southern Command Commander, Navy Admiral Holsey—and Hegseth's calendar at the time of the strikes, questioning his leadership as Venezuela tensions escalate with U.S. naval buildup. King slams Congress's abdication of war powers, Trump's "garbage" insults toward Somalis, and the purge of Pentagon legal experts, urging independents to hold the line for accountability. This is a conversation with a powerful, honorable and pivotal Senator that is at the center of all it. The lone independent Senator that can be a unique bridge to real bi-partisan accountability. As you've heard, CBS has ended “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Troublingly, this comes just after Paramount, which owns CBS, settled President Trump's frivolous lawsuit against it by paying out $16 million dollars. Only days before the firing, Colbert called the deal a “big fat bribe.” Now Trump has just praised the firing in a vile new attack on Colbert. Trump laughably insisted that Colbert has no talent and can't measure up to Fox News hosts (who praise Trump relentlessly). We think Trump deliberately wants us to think CBS fired Colbert precisely because CBS hoped it would curry favor with Trump, enhancing impressions of his authoritarian power. We talked about all this with Michael Sozan of the Center for American Progress, author of a good piece excoriating Paramount's settlement with Trump. We discussed why Trump makes his corrupt bullying of the media explicit, how this represents a broader textbook imitation of autocratic regimes abroad, and what we should all do in response. After raging at Harvard earlier this month, President Donald Trump is now revoking the university's right to receive foreign students. The administration sent an unhinged letter to Harvard making the announcement while demanding extensive information about international students, a grotesque abuse of power. The White House statement justifying this seethed with angry, McCarthyite nonsense. We think this is already backfiring: Harvard is reportedly very likely to take legal action, and the university will probably be able to stop the move. We talked to Jonathan Friedman of PEN America, who explains why Trump's assault on Harvard is already getting universities to band together, how it's leading to renewed public support for the university system, and why Harvard's potential success beating this back will only stiffen institutional resistance to Trump. We think this is already backfiring: Legal experts quickly dismissed the move as lawless, Harvard is already leaking word that it will take legal action, and the university will probably be able to stop the move. We talked to Jonathan Friedman of PEN America, who explains why Trump's assault on Harvard is already getting universities to band together, how it's leading to renewed public support for the university system, and why Harvard's potential success beating this back will only stiffen institutional resistance to Trump. On Tuesday, press secretary Karoline Leavitt gave her first media briefing in the White House. Leavitt unleashed a sleazy, gratuitous attack on Joe Biden's age, dodged responsibility for the rise in egg prices on Trump's watch, and even defended Trump's executive order ending birthright citizenship. The attack on Biden is worth dwelling on: It shows that a certain type of ugly, abusive MAGA trolling ethic is now fully installed inside the White House. We talked to Salon writer Amanda Marcotte, a skillful interpreter of MAGA politics, about what really lies behind Leavitt's performance—and what it signals about the ugliness to come. Dark Skippy is a new attack that in theory, makes it much easier for a malicious person to steal your coins. Listen in to learn about some of the ins and outs here, as well as mitigation and the path forward for the industry from @utxoclub , @LLFOURN & @robin_linus . Why air gapping is not the be all end all Dark Skippy in context with other attacks Security while signing transactions, and security while generating keys RFC6979 Deterministic nonce generation Updating PSBT to help mitigate this attack Summary The conversation discusses the ‘Dark Skippy' attack, a new method for leaking secret keys from a malicious signing device. The attack takes advantage of the nonces used in the Schnorr and ECDSA signature schemes. The new attack vector can potentially extract private keys and seed words from hardware wallets. The attack targets the nonce generation process during key generation and signing. The previous versions of this attack were inefficient, but Dark Skippy improves upon them. The contributors explain how the attack came about and its implications for hardware wallet security. They also discuss the RFC6979 deterministic nonce generation and the concept of anti-klepto signing protocols as mitigations against the attack. While Dark Skippy is a sophisticated attack, it requires a high level of expertise and is not currently seen in the wild. The discussion highlights the importance of secure boot, upgrading the Partially Signed Bitcoin Transaction (PSBT) process, and improving the randomness of upfront key generation as potential mitigations. However, it is emphasized that current reputable hardware wallets still provide a high level of security, and there is no immediate action required for users. This week on Ring of Fire! An adviser for Kamala Harris coined a new attack against Republicans in a recent campaign email, and it is one that is now driving Republicans insane. The attack is simple: Republicans are weird, sick freaks. But the simplicity of it is what is driving conservatives up the wall, to the point where Vivek Ramaswamy got blasted on social media for whining about the "juvenile" name-calling from the Left. Things keep getting worse for Republicans as they continue to rip each other apart. Recently, Republican Senator Rick Scott tore into Mitch McConnell for being a "dictator" in the Senate within his own Republican caucus. Scott wants McConnell's job so bad that he can taste it, but the last time he tried to do it he went down in flames and ended up losing his position as head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. While there are plenty of Republicans in the Senate and House who love Donald Trump's pick of J.D. Vance, there is a growing chorus of others who are hoping Trump makes a switch before it is too late. Trump has about a week left before he can't make any changes to the ticket (due to state rules about declared and nominated candidates), but it isn't likely that he'll make a switch – it would be an admission of failure, and Trump will never do that. Donald Trump pulled an all-nighter on Truth Social this week, staying up and posting about how much he hates the conservative cable news network. The convicted felon posted a series of memes about how bad Fox has allegedly gotten, and how Republicans will have to win this year's election without them. This shows not only Trump's further descent into madness, but it also proves that Republicans view Fox as a political arm of their campaigns. All that, and much more, on this week's Ring of Fire Podcast!
