"Psychoanalysis is a translation of what I call in Spanish, Psicoanalisis Criollo, which means that we are hybrid cultures in Latin America, and that is something that we should never forget. We have been acting in the Psychoanalytical Society for so long as if we were living in some big modern city of the first world, like London, Paris, San Francisco, New York.  I think that this ignoring or even denial of the fact that we are not there, we live in societies which are in many ways different than societies from the first world and we have to take that into account."     Episode Description: We begin with a description of ‘Psicoanalisis Criollo  - hybrid psychoanalysis,' "psychoanalysis by and for Latin Americans." We discuss the ways that the analyst's awareness of cultural factors impacts the clinical approach to deepening the patient's self-awareness. Jorge presents vignettes where the appearance of socially defined similarities and differences were important elements to address in the treatment. He highlights the delicacy of our culturally colored countertransferences. He shares with us details about his 28-year weekly newspaper column as well as his 330,000 Twitter followers (@jotabruce). Your accent is the way you sound when you speak and in reality everybody has an accent – in somebody else’s opinion. Most accents have some kind of stereotype attached to them. While European and American accents are found to be sophisticated and elegant, other non-white accents such as African, Caribbean, Asian, or Latino accents maybe perceived to be crude and lower class because those minority groups are treated lower in society and their accents are associated with something undesirable.Although people poke fun at British or American accents, but it’s never with the intention of making it sound unrefined, as it is with other accents. The thing about mocking accents is that we often dismiss how hurtful they can be under the pretence of “it was a joke” or “all in good fun.” But for people who have relations to accent issues, it can be hurtful and impact their confidence as there still exists in our society subtle discrimination against them to indicate they are different. On this episode, we discuss whether having a Non-Amercian or Non-European accent has an impact on your confidence or ability to progress economically and take up more senior leadership roles in society. We are joined by Rennae, JJ, and Kene as they share their personal experiences on how their accents have been perceived and why this shouldn’t be a barrier to achieving your goals and speaking up when any form of social injustice or discrimination is directed towards you or any of your loved ones.

Aside from embodying the most vile and insurgent aspects of white supremacist ideological violence, Tarrant live-streamed the mass killing of 50 Muslim worshippers at the Al Noor and Linwood mosques on platforms such as Facebook and YouTube. Along his eagerness to share his violent acts with the world, Tarrant left a "manifesto" of sorts, which clearly defines what his motivations were for the targeted attacks, including the highly dubious claims that the "white race" is being systematically replaced and displaced from their position of dominance in European and European-in-origin societies (United States, Australia, New Zealand, and the like) by "Non-European" races through mass migration and high birthrates. We place this mass shooting in Christchurch within Shane's robust analysis of the patterns of far right insurgent violence, as demonstrated by the long and growing list of so-called ”lone wolf" attacks on minority groups in predominantly European and European-in-origin societies over the past several decades, and especially in the past five years or less. What is fueling these attacks, and how do we combat these horrible ideologies that embolden individuals to "take matters into their own hands"? We examine possible answers to this question by identifying the root of the anxiety inherent in white identity in the modern era, including the role late-stage capitalism and ecological collapse plays in giving rise to these outbursts of violence around the world. [Intro: 17:30] In this episode, I speak with author, journalist, and political researcher Shane Burley. We discuss the recent mass shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand, in which an Australian white supremacist targeted Muslim worshippers at two separate mosques, leading to the deaths of 50 people — the largest in the nation’s history. We place this event within Shane’s larger analysis of far right ideology and insurgency, which has been thoroughly examined in Shane’s journalism on the subject, as well as in previous interviews I have had with him.* In this discussion with Shane, we touch on an Op-Ed Alexander Reid Ross and Shane very recently co-wrote for The Independent, titled ‘How to defeat the cretinous ‘great replacement’ theory at the heart of the Christchurch mosque attack,’ in which they respond to the recent mass shooting in Christchurch by self-proclaimed white supremacist Brenton Tarrant. Facebook Will Not Extend GDPR Privacy Standards to US + Non-European Users - April 4, 2018

UPDATE 04/05/2018: a few hours after our show went live, Mark Zuckerberg refuted Reuters' story that Facebook would not extend the GDPR privacy restrictions to all users. Facebook later clarified that all privacy restrictions, and all standards that are GDPR compliant, will take effect for all users. TechCrunch has more information about Zuckerberg's statement: https://techcrunch.com/2018/04/04/zuckerberg-gdpr/ --------------------------------- Today's Commexis Cast discusses Mark Zuckerberg's decision to not extend the GDPR European Union law restrictions to non-European users, which results in lesser privacy restrictions in non-European countries. Plus, Instagram is lowering the number of times developers can gain information from it's API. In an exclusive interview with Reuters on Tuesday, Facebook Inc.'s Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg states that while he agreed with the privacy regulations set out in the GDPR "in spirit", Facebook would not be setting those restrictions as a standard. Zuckerberg told Reuters that, “We're still nailing down details on this, but it should directionally [sic] be, in spirit, the whole thing.” For those unfamiliar, the GDPR is a set of standards passed by the European Union which allows users to see how much information a brand/company has on them, as well as the right to have that information deleted. This also affects the way data is gathered through cookies and pixels by requiring sites ask explicit permission to do so. Zuckerberg's statement comes at an interesting time following the Cambridge Analytica scandal, which has many looking towards Facebook and their privacy settings with a close eye. Of course, the Cambridge Analytica scandal and the data Facebook collects in regards to the GDPR are not entirely related data sets, and under GDPR restrictions Cambridge Analytica would be the one at fault (for not properly gaining consent for the information, and selling gathered information under an academic license). Facebook is also an ad supported business, which Zuckerberg and Vox's Ezra Klein discussed in an exclusive interview following Tim Cook's critiques of the social network. Phillip explains, as we've mentioned previously, that to keep a something like Facebook running, advertisers need to be able to go off of data collected by Facebook to target their ads. As we mentioned in our special report on Cambridge Analytica scandal last week, that user data is anonymous to the brand. Mark Zuckerberg will be appearing before Congress on April 11th, and we'll keep you updated on what we learn, and what this means for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp going forward. Seemingly in response to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Recode reports that the Facebook Inc. owned Instagram has reduced how much data developers can gather from it's API. The change came on Friday, seemingly out of nowhere according to sources that spoke to Recode. The rate limit was reduced to 200 calls per hour, down significantly from the previous 5000 calls per hour previously. Some developers were cut off all together. What this effectively means is developers will have less opportunities to "ping" Instagram's servers and gather information. This will likely result in developers having to be pickier about the types of data they are gathering, rather than being able to gather as much data as they want regardless of its use. According to Recode, Instagram was preparing to scale back the number of calls per hour starting this summer and completely transitioning to a more limited API by 2020, but began much earlier than expected likely due to the Cambridge Analytica scandal. On this episode I am pleased to welcome to the show somewhat of a kettlebell mogul in the North American Kettlebell landscape.  Non-European kettlebell enthusiasts such as myself know Steve Cotter as the founder of the International Kettlebell and Fitness Federation (IKFF), an organization that promotes the practice of kettlebell training as a means to express its greater focus of integrated mind/body development.  The IKFF is a transcontinental community of unique but unified individuals whose collective distinctiveness resonates through Steve, a man passionate about finding balance in both training and life.In this episode we ask questions like: Is there confusion in the world of fitness?  Does soccer-mom or desk-jockey dad really need Olympic Weightlifting or gymnastics to be healthy?  Is social-media making “the sport of fitness” out to be more than it is?  Are we inventing new sports just because we lost our edge, or because there’s always someone better?  Has fitness or your own physical prowess become the centre-piece of your existence, and if so why?  And if so, how will you define who you are when you lose your ability to demonstrate this physicality?

Standard means of endodontic therapy have changed within the last decade due to new technical developments and an increasing scientific knowledge in this field. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the current status of materials, instruments and appliances used for root canal treatment by dentists in Bavaria. A comprehensive questionnaire was performed among 6900 Bavarian dentists in the year 2004. By use of a standardized questionnaire sheet, the colleagues were asked to give written information about their individual therapeutic concepts including the materials as used to perform root canal treatment. A total of 1666 dentists were enrolled into this study returning the questionnaire within the period of time that has been scheduled. This corresponds to a 24.1% return ratio. Detailed analysis of the collected data revealed the following specific results: The dentists included into the study had an age range from 27 to 71 years. Stratifying the study sample into different categories of age showed that the majority of study subjects belonged to the subgroup of age from 35 to 49 years (53,2%). The majority of dentists were male (77.5%) and most frequently dentists were working in private practices (71%). The age- and gender distribution of the participating dentists in this study is comparable to a statistic of the federal dental association (KZBV 2005). Regarding the health care insurance of patients that are treated endodontically on average 17% of patients had a private health care insurance. Considering the individual treatment means used by the dentists for endodontic therapy the following results were achieved: On average each dentist performed 10.5 root canal treatments per week. Regarding the method used for the determination of endodontic working length (multiple answers possible) 81% of the dentists used radiographs for this purpose. A comparably high percentage of dentists (46.6%) used endometric devices for the determination of the working length. Instrumentation of root canals (multiple answers possible) was performed by 57% of dentists with machine driven devices along with Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) files. The Profile system represents the most popular machine driven endodontic treatment system among Bavarian dentists since this particular system was used by 46% of study participants followed by the ProTaper system (32%) and the Flexmaster system (31%). Machine driven endodontic treatment devices were mainly used with a suitable torque-limited motor. The various products used for this purpose were (multiple answers possible) TriAutoZX, Morita (17.5%), ATR, Dentsply (14.9%), Endostepper, SET (11.4%) and Endo IT Control, VDW (11.1%). Nevertheless, a considerable percentage of dentists (35%) used machine driven devices without torque control. For the irrigation of instrumented root canals dentists spent a mean time of 2.1 minutes and used irrigating solutions (multiple denominations possible) as follows: NaOCl (85.1%), H2O2 (62.4%), EDTA (18.1%), CHX (15.2%). Overall, there was observed an increasing use of machine driven devices along with NiTi files and of EDTA and Chlorhexidine as compared with previous studies. Moreover, comparison of present data with current studies form different European and Non-European countries revealed that the use of rotating NiTi systems was significantly higher among Bavarian dentists. Based on the present results it can be assumed that the concepts as used for endodontic treatment by Bavarian dentists represents a high therapeutic standard.
