Three big things you need to know: First, we think the case against US equities relative to non-US equities has been overstated. Second, we think the risk of a pause in Large Cap Growth leadership has grown, even though we think this part of the market has outperformed for good reasons. Third, we think Small Caps are at an attractive entry point for patient investors.

So when their interest rates go up the dollar strengthens and everyone else's interest rates have to go up too, to keep pace. * The Economics Minute is supported by the NWU Business School.

Contributor: Dylan Luyten, MD Educational pearls: Clinical management of COVID-19 is rapidly evolving, relying on case reports and clinical experience In just a month, the consensus around management of COVID patients with severe hypoxia has shifted from an early intubation strategy to other, non-invasive means Intubating early can quickly consume ventilator resources, require increased intensive care monitoring, and likely leads to longer hospital stays and once COVID patients are intubated, extubation can take days to weeks. In Italy, ventilator supplies were depleted leading to the use of helmet CPAP machines, which appeared to be effective in management of respiratory distress in COVID, though not available for use in the US Non-invasive ventilation such as CPAP/BiPAP is thought to increase risk to staff for infection via aerosolization, and has often been avoided in COVID patients High flow nasal cannulas appear to pose less of a risk of aerosolization of viral particles (especially when a surgical mask is placed over the patient’s nose, mouth and apparatus) Anecdotal evidence from NYC has shown success allowing conscious patients to maintain hypoxia on HFN, where they will self prone to help with lung recruitment, and seemingly do well despite persistent saturations in the 80s or less Hospitals around the country are moving away from the intubate early methodology in favor of high flow oxygen therapy as long as they are not having issues with work of breathing or other complications The pathophysiology of respiratory distress and hypoxia in COVID patients is evolving as well, and some presentations appear similar to disease processes such as high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) rather than acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), in that patients are quite well appearing despite phenomenally low oximetry readings.  These select patients appear to be excellent candidates for non-invasive means rather than an early intubation strategy   Editor’s note: do not take lightly that intubation is one of the highest risk aerosolization generating procedures, along with many peri-intubation procedures like suctioning, BVM, etc.   References [1]. The Buyer's Journey
Facebook Will Not Extend GDPR Privacy Standards to US + Non-European Users - April 4, 2018

The Buyer's Journey

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 5, 2018 11:53

UPDATE 04/05/2018: a few hours after our show went live, Mark Zuckerberg refuted Reuters' story that Facebook would not extend the GDPR privacy restrictions to all users. Facebook later clarified that all privacy restrictions, and all standards that are GDPR compliant, will take effect for all users. TechCrunch has more information about Zuckerberg's statement: https://techcrunch.com/2018/04/04/zuckerberg-gdpr/ --------------------------------- Today's Commexis Cast discusses Mark Zuckerberg's decision to not extend the GDPR European Union law restrictions to non-European users, which results in lesser privacy restrictions in non-European countries. Plus, Instagram is lowering the number of times developers can gain information from it's API. In an exclusive interview with Reuters on Tuesday, Facebook Inc.'s Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg states that while he agreed with the privacy regulations set out in the GDPR "in spirit", Facebook would not be setting those restrictions as a standard. Zuckerberg told Reuters that, “We're still nailing down details on this, but it should directionally [sic] be, in spirit, the whole thing.” For those unfamiliar, the GDPR is a set of standards passed by the European Union which allows users to see how much information a brand/company has on them, as well as the right to have that information deleted. This also affects the way data is gathered through cookies and pixels by requiring sites ask explicit permission to do so. Zuckerberg's statement comes at an interesting time following the Cambridge Analytica scandal, which has many looking towards Facebook and their privacy settings with a close eye. Of course, the Cambridge Analytica scandal and the data Facebook collects in regards to the GDPR are not entirely related data sets, and under GDPR restrictions Cambridge Analytica would be the one at fault (for not properly gaining consent for the information, and selling gathered information under an academic license). Facebook is also an ad supported business, which Zuckerberg and Vox's Ezra Klein discussed in an exclusive interview following Tim Cook's critiques of the social network. Phillip explains, as we've mentioned previously, that to keep a something like Facebook running, advertisers need to be able to go off of data collected by Facebook to target their ads. As we mentioned in our special report on Cambridge Analytica scandal last week, that user data is anonymous to the brand. Mark Zuckerberg will be appearing before Congress on April 11th, and we'll keep you updated on what we learn, and what this means for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp going forward. Seemingly in response to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Recode reports that the Facebook Inc. owned Instagram has reduced how much data developers can gather from it's API. The change came on Friday, seemingly out of nowhere according to sources that spoke to Recode. The rate limit was reduced to 200 calls per hour, down significantly from the previous 5000 calls per hour previously. Some developers were cut off all together. What this effectively means is developers will have less opportunities to "ping" Instagram's servers and gather information. This will likely result in developers having to be pickier about the types of data they are gathering, rather than being able to gather as much data as they want regardless of its use. According to Recode, Instagram was preparing to scale back the number of calls per hour starting this summer and completely transitioning to a more limited API by 2020, but began much earlier than expected likely due to the Cambridge Analytica scandal. I had a fantastic week away and back in the office again this week.Well, I had a really good week with my trades this week. I’m up +1.5% and thats with risking only a quarter of 1%. So, 0.25% risk per trade. A 1.5% gain for the week so far.I’m not expecting probably many more trades for the day. I do have one trade open on the Euro/US Dollar. I’m long on that at the moment, but we have the US non-farm payroll. The monthly unemployment data coming out later tonight my time, Friday morning New York time.Judging by what I can see on the charts, at the moment obviously the Euro has been in a lot of strength. And at this stage, I see no reason for that not to continue. The US dollar is looking weak and so my feeling at this stage would be that the non-farm payroll data is more than likely going to come in at expected or probably below expectation. That would be my feeling right now from looking at the charts. If I have any shorter timeframe chart trades open at before the news, I will be closing those. My daily trade: I'll probably be keeping them open but monitoring them just before that announcement. It’s pretty much the only major news announcement that I'm wary of because you can get such big movement and a lot of volatility. With the rest of my trades, my silver is still open and it’s just over the $35 at this stage. And I see no reason for that not to continue. It’s looking really strong on the longer term charts, but a long way still to go on that. With my clients, we’ve had a really good webinar. Last night we had a 2 hour live trading room webinar. Well just over 2 hours. We took some really good trades in there.I also concentrated on going back to basics and it’s really important for us as traders to remember the fundamental basics of trading. It helps to keep our mindset straight. It helps us with our emotions and that helps us to select the good trades and to eliminate those sorts of 50-50 trades that we really don’t need to be taking especially in this current environment. It is a really difficult trading environment right now so we need to be really selective and get back to basics and pick out the high probability trades.Looking ahead into next week!On Monday, there is Japanese, a US, and a Canadian Holiday. All on Monday so, I’m not anticipating a lot of price action on Monday. Probably going to be a very quiet day!And then, later of the week on Thursday, there’s Australian news out. Looking at the Australian dollar threat the whole of this week, it’s just crashed. The Aus/US Dollar has jus fallen away and that’s really come about as a result of the cash rate dropping. That drop a quarter of 1% on Tuesday. They’ve had trade balance figures that have been really bad and next week we’ve got employment data. So looking at the chart I'd anticipate that the Australian Dollar is more than likely going to continue to fall at this stage. This time last week, last Friday we did have a nice engulfing candle formation on the daily chart which was suggesting the Australian Dollar was looking like it was going to fall and we did see that fall out through into this week.Looking at right now, we could see that Australian Dollar continue to fall into next week.So that’s all for now!Hope you’ve enjoyed the session and I look forwar...
