Why does it appear that the Bible contains so-called contradictions or discrepancies? If there truly are error's in the Bible then the critics are correct when they say it's a human invention, rather than the word of God. For example is there a contradiction between what Jesus said in Matthew 5 about not abolishing the Law, whereas other statements in the New Testament state that the Old Law has been abolished. Becoming an American citizen was a chaotic process in the early days of the United States. During what became known as the Old Law period, there was no official federal oversight of the citizenship process. Early laws allowed any municipal, county, state, or federal court to grant citizenship and did not require courts to issue certificates.

Minnesota has joined a multi-state legal challenge to President Donald Trump's executive order to end birthright citizenship, which guarantees citizenship to all babies born in the U.S., regardless of their parents' legal status. Supporters of the law say birthright citizenship is enshrined in the 14th Amendment, but Trump and his allies dispute that reading of the amendment. They say there need to be tougher standards for becoming a citizen. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is one of the 22 attorneys general taking part in the lawsuit. He told MPR News the executive order is a violation of the U.S. Constitution.“I do anticipate this time around, the Trump Administration will be better prepared,” he said. “But those of us who swear an oath to uphold the rule of law and support the Constitution, we're not gonna just let things go by.”Jason Marisam, a constitutional law professor at Hamline University and a former Minnesota assistant attorney general, joined MPR News host Nina Moini to break down the case.

Forecast = Healthcare and telecom under stormy skies—watch for cyber squalls and gusts of disinformation In this episode of Storm⚡️Watch, we dive into the world of cybersecurity with a focus on healthcare and telecommunications. We kick things off with a look at the current state of Internet of Healthcare Things (IoHT) exposures on public-facing networks. A recent study by Censys revealed some alarming findings about the security of DICOM servers, which are used for storing and transmitting medical images. With over 3,800 publicly exposed servers and data from 59 million patients at risk, it's clear that the healthcare industry needs to step up its cybersecurity game. We then shift gears to discuss a major cybersecurity incident involving Chinese hackers who managed to compromise wiretap systems of major U.S. telecom and internet providers. This breach is directly linked to the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), a 30-year-old federal law that has long been criticized by security experts. The incident raises important questions about the balance between government surveillance needs and cybersecurity concerns. For those interested in staying up-to-date with the latest vulnerability intelligence, we highlight recent blog posts from VulnCheck, including their KEV Report and Initial Access Intelligence for September 2024. We also touch on GreyNoise's latest blog post about protecting democracy from the growing threat of deepfakes and disinformation. A little-known U.S. law called the Jones Act shapes climate tech in weird ways — like hindering offshore wind deployment and pushing up energy prices. The law, part of the Merchant Marine Act of 1920, requires all cargo shipped between U.S. ports to be carried by ships that meet strict standards. Those ships must be built in American shipyards, owned by an American company, registered in the U.S., and crewed by a majority American crew. Since 2020, grocery prices have shot up. If you're looking to save a buck, it's often more affordable to shop for groceries at a big retailer like Walmart. But some smaller grocers say those low prices are the result of an unfair playing field—and they're looking to a little-used antitrust law from the 1930s as a solution. Today, we consider the Robinson-Patman Act and whether reviving it could bring consumers some relief.Related episodes: Grocery delivery wars (Apple / Spotify) Feeling inflation in the grocery store (Apple / Spotify) For sponsor-free episodes of The Indicator from Planet Money, subscribe to Planet Money+ via Apple Podcasts or at plus.npr.org. The Comstock Act, a 150-year-old law named after “anti-vice” crusader Anthony Comstock, passed in 1873. It allowed enforcement power to investigate the U.S. mail for items of an “illicit,” “lewd,” or “immoral” purpose, including items related to abortion. Greer Donley, Associate Professor and Reproductive Justice Scholar at University of Pittsburgh Law School, sits down to talk with us about the Comstock Act—what is it, what it means, and how anti-abortion activists are working to revive it. Today, the courts are packed with extreme conservative judges and Trump-appointees who maintain a vested interest in maintaining the act as a strategy to ban abortion pills and procedural items sent through the mail. To combat the Comstock Act and its ability to further decimate reproductive health and rights, Comstock must be completely repealed, and a presidential administration that doesn't enforce Comstock is necessary. The president, who also has the power of pardoning, can pre-pardon anyone later convicted within the 5-year statutory period of a Comstock-related crime before leaving office. Support the showFollow Us on Social: Twitter: @rePROsFightBack Instagram: @reprosfbFacebook: rePROs Fight Back Email us: jennie@reprosfightback.comRate and Review on Apple PodcastThanks for listening & keep fighting back!

On the eighth day, Christ submitted Himself to the Old Law by undergoing the ancient rite of circumcision though He had no need of it. He repeats this submission two more times: at the Presentation and in Baptism. Through these rites, Our Lord separated Himself from the world, including sin. What Our Lord reveals, particularly through the words of St. Paul, is that these rites are empty without a conversion of the heart. For without this conversion, we cannot truly separate ourselves from the world and recognize Christ as our savior.Subscribe to receive every sermon here: https://sspx-sermons.captivate.fm/listenSee all our Sermons: https://sspxpodcast.com/sermons/Donate: https://sspxpodcast.com/faq/#donateView on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@SSPX

Follow Brother Andre on GAB and Twitter  - @Brother_Andre HEADLINE: Saint Lucy (304) by The Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary  The 2 Covenants -  Moses was the mediator of the old law. It is very confusing so stop what you are doing and pay attention. This is a point of great confusion. Most assume the old law means the entirety of the Old Testament. The Old Law is the Mosaic Law - 613 individual laws. Most of them are negative. That Mosaic Law none of us could actually keep - They get more specific and discuss the Law of God and Nature. The covenant made w/ Moses was conditioned. It was a bilateral contract and it was violated by the offending party. Because it was violated it was superseded.  This new covenant is the one Jesus Christ established by His blood. Our Lord says this is My blood - echoing but altering Moses Covenant.  Saint Paul - those promises to Abraham and his seed. If you are Christ then you are the seed of Abraham. No ONE, no Christian ever believed that  they both ran at the same time until you got Zionist Christians. The two Covenants couldn't be at the same time. HEADLINE: Yes, Anti-Zionism Is Antisemitism by Dennis Prager I receive Our Lord and Savior when I attend Mass, that by definition makes me NOT a antisemite. Jesus Christ was born a Jew. The Christians who talk about 2 Covenant Theory -  Christians didn't do circumcisions until much later. You just don't cut off healthy tissue. HEADLINE: Santa Lucia by Brian Kelly  As a young girl, Lucy's Catholic faith and devotion to Christ grew strong, and so did her longing to give all the material goods she had to the poor and, like Saint Agatha, she was determined to consecrate her virginity in service to God. These intentions were kept secret by her, for a while, from her mother, but after her father's early death, her mother, Eutychia, began suffering from a serious hemorrhage. Her daughter convinced her to come with her to Catania and ask Saint Agatha for a cure. She agreed, and, upon venerating the martyr's relics, she was cured. So grateful was Eutychia for this miraculous favor that, upon hearing of her daughter's holy resolve, she gave her a Catholic mother's full support. However, there was one problem. Prior to this, and without Lucy's knowledge, her mother had arranged for her to marry a young pagan. When this man noticed Lucy's largess with the poor, he became very upset. At that time Jesus exclaimed: I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.   Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light. Matthew 11:25-30   Freedom In today's Gospel, Jesus calls a certain set of people to him—all those who labor and are burdened. Commenting on the phrase “labor and burdened,” St. Thomas Aquinas says that “labor” refers both to God's law and commandments as well as our human fragility. Man's labor is to follow the commandments of God in man's weakened state. On the other hand, St. Thomas says that “burden” refers to the weight of sin.   As St. John Chrysostom says, “Nothing so weighs upon the soul, and presses it down, as consciousness of sin; nothing so much gives it wings, and raises it on high, as the attainment of righteousness and virtue.” When Jesus promises to give rest to the laboring and the burdened, he is inviting them to a life of virtue—a life of freedom.   To accept this freedom, we must take Christ's yoke upon us and learn from him: “For my yoke is easy and my burden light.” This is a rather confusing teaching. Jesus is freeing us from labor and our burden by promising us his yoke and his burden. Christ's burden seems heavier than the commandments of the Old Law, for he says, “You have heard that it was said to those of old: ‘you shall not kill' . . . But I say to you, that everyone who is angry with his brother, shall be liable to judgment” (Matthew 5:21–22). But his burden is light because it changes us at our core—our hearts. While it is difficult for a man filled with hatred to avoid murder, it is easy for a man filled with God's freeing love to avoid anger.   Jesus gives two reasons why we will find rest when we take his yoke and his burden. He has the path to freedom because he is “meek and humble of heart.” St. Thomas says, “[T]he whole new law consists in two things: in meekness and humility. By meekness a man is ordered with respect to neighbor . . . By humility, one is ordered with respect to himself and with respect to God . . . Hence humility makes a man receptive of God.” When we imitate Christ's meekness and humility, we have a right ordering toward ourselves, toward others, and toward God.   Do not fear Christ's yoke; do not back away from the yoke that lightens all things. Rather, place yourself under it with all haste, and then you will know the pleasure of Christ's light yoke. For it will not bruise your neck; it will lead you along the narrow way, teaching you how to walk seemly, ordering your every action toward the Lord.   In your prayer, today, ask the Lord to give you freedom by yoking you to a virtuous life; pray for the strength to bear this yoke. Then, learn from Christ how to live in virtue—being meek and humble in heart.

Alicia Wilder continues her story to faith in the Jesus of the Bible. She describes her “undercover reading of the Bible.” Why undercover? According to LDS scripture, the Bible is not always reliable according to the 8th Article of Faith; but she was fascinated. Staying only in the Bible, she felt alive, excited, as if truth was resonating to her soul—a stark contrast not lost on her in comparison to her past reading of the Book of Mormon where she felt nothing. Reading in the book of John, then Romans, she saw the weight of her sin nature and understood the answer to all sin was to surrender to Jesus so she could be covered by the cloak of Christ's covering. She began to understand the Old Law fulfilled in Jesus and that believers were now under a New Covenant. She and Micah, on his LDS mission in Florida, shared what they were learning from reading God's Word in weekly emails.

Jesus said to his disciples: “I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:20–22The scribes and Pharisees were masters of the Old Law. Now that the Messiah had arrived, they were unwilling to go deeper and move beyond the Old Testament teachings that they often misrepresented. They preferred a black-and-white approach to morality that had been with them for centuries and did not want to change when presented with Jesus' new and higher calling.Today's Gospel continues Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, which began with the Beatitudes. In today's portion of Jesus' sermon, we are taught about anger, adultery and oaths. In every case, Jesus refers to the Law as it was taught in the Old Testament but then elevates it to an entirely new level. The line quoted above makes it clear that the only way to accept these new teachings of Jesus was to surpass the “righteousness” of the scribes and Pharisees. And the dire result of not surpassing their righteousness was the loss of the Kingdom of Heaven.Jesus begins by recalling the Old Testament commandment, “You shall not kill.” But then He takes that commandment further by saying that “whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment.” Of course, killing remains a grave sin. But now Jesus explains that the interior attitude of anger, even if not acted upon, is a sin. He goes on to teach a similar lesson about adultery and swearing oaths. It is helpful to understand these new teachings in the context of the approach that the scribes and Pharisees took in regard to the Old Testament. About that, Jesus says, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.” Thus, the primary problem with the scribes and Pharisees is not that they failed to teach the Old Testament Law properly. The primary problem is that now that the Messiah has arrived and has ushered in a new time of fulfillment and righteousness, they would not go deeper and would not embrace the fulfillment of the Law of God. They are not willing to grow in holiness and embrace the fulfillment of all that had been taught before.Reflect, today, upon the calling given to you by our Lord's new and glorious teachings. If you are to truly embrace the Gospel of our Lord and live in His New Law of grace, then you must be willing to go deep, become truly radical in your faith, and allow God to transform every part of your life. The New Law is one of the fullness of love, mercy, surrender, zeal, conversion and transformation. Commit yourself to surpassing the old and limited righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, and God will do glorious things in your life.Lord of all grace, You came and not only taught us about the heights of holiness, but You also lived it and have bestowed upon us all we need to imitate Your every virtue. Please fill me with Your mercy and strength so that I may live a new righteousness of the fullness of love. The Difference Between Obedience and Legalism

What does the Bible teach about obedience? Is our obedience something we do in order to justify ourselves? What do we learn from Abraham about his faithfulness to God? As we continue through the book of Romans, Paul is slowly revealing to us that our works of obedience do not make us righteous before God. In Romans 4, he unpacks this by explaining that it was Abraham's faith in God and belief in His promises that justified him. So, how does this look for us today? Since we are on the other side of Jesus' life, death and resurrection, we are looking back at all of the promises that God has fulfilled. But, this doesn't change the fact that our faith in God and belief in His promises is also what justifies us. The difference for us is that we now know it is the righteousness of God in Christ that we can rest in as our justification. In this episode of Real Christianity, pastor Dale Partridge walks us through the difference between obedience and legalism, as Paul explains in Romans 4:1-3 how our faith is counted to us as righteousness.

Christians are quick to say, “Christ died for me.” But often times they forget that Christ also lived for them. Namely, Christ is not only the Cross-bearer for our sin but also the Law-keeper for our righteousness. What does this mean for Christians and the Law (the Ten Commandments)? Since the Law is fulfilled by Christ does it still have a purpose for Christians? If we're not saved by our obedience but by faith alone, how should we think of the Moral Law? In this episode of Real Christianity, Pastor Dale Partridge answers these questions and more as he continues his teaching through Romans 3:28-31.
