The Orphan Train Movement was a supervised welfare program that transported children from crowded Eastern cities of the United States to foster homes located largely in rural areas of the Midwest. The orphan trains operated between 1854 and 1929, relocating from about 200,000 children.[1] The co-founders of the Orphan Train movement claimed that these children were orphaned, abandoned, abused, or homeless, but this was not always true. They were mostly the children of new immigrants and the children of the poor and destitute families living in these cities. Criticisms of the program include ineffective screening of caretakers, insufficient follow-ups on placements, and that many children were used as strictly slave farm labor.  #Viewerdiscretion  #CaseyKasem #at40 #love #TFLers #tweegram #photooftheday #20likes #amazing #smile #follow4follow #like4like #look #instalike #igers #picoftheday #food #instadaily #instafollow #followme #girl #iphoneonly #instagood #bestoftheday #instacool #instago #all_shots #follow #webstagram #colorful #style #swag #amazing #followme #all_shots #textgram #family #instago #igaddict #awesome #girls #instagood #my #bored #baby #music #red #green #water #harrystyles #bestoftheday #black #party #white #yum #flower #2012 #night #instalove #niallhoran #jj_forum #love #instagood #me #tbt #cute #follow #followme #photooftheday #happy #tagforlikes #beautiful #self #girl #picoftheday #like4like #smile #friends #fun #like #fashion #summer #instadaily #igers #instalike #food #love #photooftheday #portrait #baby #me #instamood #cute #friends #hair #swag #igers #picoftheday #girl #guy #beautiful #fashion #instagramers #follow #smile #pretty #followme #photo #life #funny #cool #hot #bored #girls #iphonesia#movies #theatre #video #movie #film #films #videos #actor #actress #cinema #dvd #amc #instamovies #star #moviestar #photooftheday Hollywood #goodmovie #instagood #flick #flicks #instaflick #instaflicks #27club #Cobain#explore #fridayfuckery #podcastlife #podcasts #youtube #book #deus #fy #fyp #interview #podcasthost #radio #90s #apple #applepodcasts #author #bringingthefuckery #comedy #richardpryor #80s #standup #comedians #actors #multiplesclerosis #goat #superman #death #actors # #richardpryor #pryor #blackcomedians #richardpryor #pryor #history # --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/daniel-hudson9/message

Slam the Gavel welcomes back Sam Sugar, M.D. to the show. we discussed how to prevent a Guardianship/Professional Guardianship from happening and what to do if you cannot. Dr. Sugar recommended having Advance Directives that state that under no circumstances that you want a guardianship. Also make sure a Health Care POA is in place and a Will. Make your wishes well known to family members as well as  settling family disputes, as Guardianships can start with a disgruntled family member.       There could be an estimated 3-3.5 million Guardianships in the United States and this creates a negative impact on families affected by a loved one being placed into a Guardianship. Families find their money being thrown away in years to multiple decades of litigation affecting their own health and welfare fighting for their loved one.     We discussed the dark history that goes back to Parens Patriae and how in 1929 Equity Courts joined with civil and criminal courts as well as the history of the Osage Tribe and the book written by David Grann, "Killers of The Flower Moon," that goes into more detail on what really happened to the Osage Tribe and how that evolved into the FBI and J. Edgar Hoover. This history of the Orphan Trains were discussed and how churches and others thought it was a great idea to put homeless children onto trains and ship them off to help farmers farm their land.     Prevention is very important, and Dr. Sugar recommends people be vigilant and aware of their surroundings in order to prevent a Guardianship from happening to their loved one and family. To Reach Dr. Sugar: www.aaapg.netsupport the show(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)http://beentheregotout.com/https://monicaszymonik.mykajabi.com/Masterclass  USE CODE SLAM THE GAVEL PODCAST FOR 10% OFF THE COURSEFor 2022 PA Retreat: https://markdavidroseman.com/retreat-registration-form/     For more information, contact co-organizers:Maryann Petri at maryannpetri3@gmail.com Ann O'Keeffe Rodgers at okeefferodgers@gmail.com http://www.dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.com/Music by: mictechmusic@yahoo.comSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)

Dr. Greg Markway is a clinical and forensic psychologist from Jefferson City, Missouri. Five years ago, he began a quest to find his grandfather's origins. His grandfather was born in New York City, and was dropped off at the New York Foundling Asylum. At the age of 5, his grandfather rode the "orphan train" to rural Missouri where he was taken in by the Markway family. Through DNA testing and considerable research, Greg uncovered his grandfather's fascinating story, and that of his biological family. Greg founded the Facebook group, Orphan Train DNA, where he helps other orphan train descendants search for their own history. He also has a blog where he writes about orphan train history and genealogy, Markwayblog.com. A nurse's choice. A daughter's search for answers. New York City, 1926. Nurse Althea Anderson's heart is near breaking when she witnesses another premature baby die at Bellevue Hospital. So when she reads an article detailing the amazing survival rates of babies treated in incubators in an exhibit at Luna Park, Coney Island, it feels like the miracle she has been searching for. But the doctors at Bellevue dismiss Althea and this unconventional medicine, forcing her to make a choice between a baby's life and the doctors' wishes that will change everything. Twenty-five years later, Stella Wright is falling apart. Her mother has just passed, she quit a job she loves, and her marriage is struggling. Then she discovers a letter that brings into question everything she knew about her mother and everything she knows about herself. The Light of Luna Park is a tale of courage and an ode to the sacrificial love of mothers. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/freeman-means-business/support

Christina Baker Kline talks about the research and writing of her powerful work of historical fiction, THE EXILES. The novel tells the story of Evangeline, Hazel, and Matthina, three women who must tap into incredible resilience in the face of oppression and injustice. The setting is “the land beyond the seas,” Van Diemen's Island, a penal colony established by the British, where 25,000 British women were exiled, by way of a former slave ship, The Medea. The ORPHAN TRAIN author shares with Olivia the parallels with modern day, and her interest in telling stories that focus on the power of female friendship. She shares which famous authors she's friends with, and recommends mixing up a Dark & Stormy for THE EXILES book club night. Margaret recommends two books she loved this year: THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE by V.E. Schwab, and GREENLIGHTS by Matthew McConaughey. In addition to THE EXILES, Olivia recommends both novels by Brit Bennett, THE VANISHING HALF and THE MOTHERS.
