Join A Cure in Sight as we interview Patricia Daly, an OM survivor and nutritional therapist. She shares her personal journey with ocular melanoma, including a recurrence of her tumor in her eye and local orbital spread, and how she began a journey to healing her body's metabolic system, one small step at a time. “Patricia was diagnosed with a 15.2-mm large choroidal melanoma in 2008. Following plaque radiotherapy under Professor Bertil Damato in Liverpool, she responded well to the treatment but not even two years later suffered a recurrence. The original tumour now measured 18.3mm and there was also local spread with an extraocular tumour of 6.2mm, called "extraocular extension" (stage T4e). Patricia was treated with proton beam therapy in Clatterbridge. Another two years on, in 2012, there was renewed tumour activity and excessive angiogenesis- and this was the moment she opted out of further treatment and embarked on a metabolic health journey, which is an ongoing process for her. Patricia Daly is an experienced and internationally recognized nutritional therapist (MSc, dipNT, mBANT, rCNHC) specializing in the personalized application of ketogenic metabolic therapies for recovery from chronic health challenges. She credits the ketogenic lifestyle for successfully quieting an aggressive eye tumour she was diagnosed with fifteen years ago. In 2021, she completed her MSc degree in "Advanced Nutrition in Research and Practice" at Middlesex University in London. Patricia is co-author of The Ketogenic Kitchen, a best-selling cookbook that includes meal plans for therapeutic carbohydrate restriction. Born in Switzerland and living in Ireland, Patricia is a proud founding and advisory member of the European Keto Live Center based in Switzerland. She regularly speaks at international conferences and has established herself as one of the leading practitioners in the field of metabolic therapies. Nothing makes her prouder than witnessing her clients transform from bystanders to active and empowered participants on their health journey." Patricia Daly is a nutritional therapist and ketogenic diet expert, specialising in cancer. Most of us have come across at least the basics of the ketogenic diet, but Patricia is able to provide updates and insights that add new layers to its application. Her own experience in both following and supporting people with the ketogenic diet is invaluable, alongside her collaborations with like-minded health professionals.Patricia explains about ketones and metabolic flexibility, the potential benefits of a ketogenic diet, when you would avoid a ketogenic diet and useful tests to help you figure this out, and some practicalities along the way.Patricia first came to the diet when she had cancer herself, and refers to this when describing the “privilege of witnessing the transformation of people who come to me”:“I started my journey in the boot of the car. I didn't even know, I didn't want to know what they were going to do to me. Then I moved to sort of the child seat and then to passenger, until I had enough and started to drive. So that's basically what I love to see in my clients as well, that's people leaving from the boot to the driving seat.”--Join us at the IHCAN Summit 2023 live in London on Saturday 24 June.June's Summit will open eyes to the true power of nutritional medicine. We don't treat cancer, but we can offer the finest personalised nutrition support for people WITH cancer thanks to Mary Beth Gonzalez and Prof Sarper Diler from The Nicholas Gonzalez Foundation. It's infuriating that commercial medicine fails to acknowledge published evidence that integrative health approaches pioneered by Dr Josef Issels, Dr Max Gerson, Dr William Kelley and Dr Nicholas Gonzalez, among others, are effective at curing people with cancer. The late Dr Gonzalez developed a protocol that succeeds, to this day, in bringing cancer patients – even those with pancreatic cancer – into long-term remission, and we're lucky to have two advocates from the sharp end of nutrition-based treatment to inspire us with case histories and protocols showing just how powerful “our” methods can be.Book your ticket at ihcansummit.co.uk.--The IHCAN magazine Podcast is provided for professional education and debate and is not intended to be used by non-medically qualified individuals as a substitute for, or basis of, medical treatment.

Yep, each of these, and many of carbalicious food items actually do exist in low-carb, high-fat nutrient dense recipes. You just have to know what to do, and you have to be willing to think outside the box of how most ketogenic eaters operate: which is basically drinking copious amounts of full-fat coconut milk, buying avocados by the dozen and going through a stick of butter every couple days. Cancer survivors Domini Kemp and Patricia Daly just put the finishing touches on the first-ever comprehensive ketogenic cookbook - a cookbook based on the latest research on nutritional approaches to the prevention and management of cancer and a ketogenic diet. But this book is chock full of delicious recipes and practical ketogenic tips that go way above and beyond just cancer management. For decades, the ketogenic diet―which shifts the body’s metabolism from burning glucose to burning fat, lowering blood sugar and insulin and resulting in a metabolic state known as ketosis―has been used to successfully manage pediatric epilepsy. More recently, it has been used by the Paleo community as a weight loss strategy. Now emerging research suggests that a ketogenic diet, in conjunction with conventional treatments, also offers new hope for those coping with cancer and other serious disease. With endorsements from leading researchers and oncologists such as Dr. Thomas Seyfried (), The Ketogenic Kitchen offers more than 250 recipes, as well as meal plans and comprehensive scientific information about the benefits of a ketogenic diet, with sensible advice to help readers through periods of illness, recovery, and treatment. Domini Kemp is an award winning chef, food writer, and entrepreneur. In 2013, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and since then she has shifted her focus towards healthier eating. She changed her column in the Irish Times to focus on healthier recipes and opened Alchemy Juice Co., a juice and wholefoods cafe. The Ketogenic Kitchen is her fifth cookbook. Patricia Daly is an experienced nutritional therapist and author specializing in cancer care and the ketogenic diet in particular. She has worked with hundreds of cancer patients in Ireland and abroad, lectures at the Irish Institute of Nutrition and Health, and is a well-regarded speaker at conferences and in cancer centers. After writing three eBooks, including "", The Ketogenic Kitchen is her first print book. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The difference between Patricia's more "strict" diet and Domini's more "liberal" diet...[8:20] -About how many carbs should you eat to be low carb versus ketosis...[11:20 & 18:55] -The surprising dangers of excessive calorie consumption on a ketogenic diet...[23:10] -The potential dangers of whey protein, especially for certain populations...[28:20] -Why it is that both Patricia and Domini like something called Yacon syrup...[31:00] -How to make your own ketogenic bread to have low carb toast...[34:05] -How to make keto cornflakes or keto cereal...[45:25] -Patrick and Domini's favorite way to make pizza that still allows it to be ketogenic (and how the heck they do the crust)...[46:55] -How to make a simple and tasty low-carb version of the Japanese temaki recipe...[51:30] -How to make "Bullet-proofish" coffee that doesn't result in any bloating or nausea...[55:15] -And much more! This remarkable book is a must-read if you have any concerns about improving your health or performance. While mainstream medicine continues to deny the effectiveness - - and even the safety! - - of the ketogenic diet, a nutritionist (Patricia Daly) and a practical celebrity chef (Domini Kemp) - - both cancer survivors - - have researched the sensible nutritional science behind the effectiveness of the keto diet and have given us a beautiful book full of delicious recipes and meal plans that keep being low carb or ketogenic an easy and delicious thing to do! Domini is the co-author with nutritional therapist Patircia Daly of The Ketogenic Kitchen the first comprehensive ketogenic cookbook based on exciting new research on nutritional approaches to the prevention and management of cancer. This is a must-have cookbook for people with cancer or who want to prevent cancer, written by a practicing research nutritionist and a progressive chef who both use low-carohydrate diets to support their own recovery from cancer. It's beautiful book, full of nutritional information, inspiration and delicious recipes! Domini is an award winning chef, food writer, and entrepreneur. In 2013, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and since then she has shifted her focus towards healthier eating. She changed her column in the Irish Times to focus on healthier recipes and opened Alchemy Juice Co., a juice and wholefoods cafe. The Ketogenic Kitchen is her fifth cookbook and is focused on nutrition and well-being through tastey and easy to prepare whole food recipes. For decades, the ketogenic diet—which shifts the body’s metabolism from burning glucose to burning fat, lowering blood sugar and insulin and resulting in a metabolic state known as ketosis—has been used to successfully manage pediatric epilepsy. More recently, it has been used by the Paleo community as a performance and weight loss strategy and to promote metabolic health by reducing insulin resistance. Now emerging research suggests that a ketogenic diet, in conjunction with conventional treatments, also offers new hope for those coping with cancer and other serious disease. The Ketogenic Kitchen is the cookbook that Domini and Patricia wished had existed when they first started managing their cancer recovery with a low carb high fat diet. The book gives advice we can trust because both of the author's are cancer survivors and attribute their survival to the concepts and recipes included in The Ketogenic Kitchen

Her work with this diet come from her own experiences as a cancer patient seeking complimentary therapies. Through information emerging in Europe she found research showing a ketogenic diet as effective when combined with traditional therapies, which in her case were radiation treatments. Undertaking this diet while continuing radiotherapy she was able to, as you will hear, quite literally see the results. One of my personal struggles in eating gluten free and reduced carb is that I was always hungry. Rarely would a meal end where I felt sated, regardless of what I did. Within just a few days of following The Ketogenic Kitchen, for the first time in years, at the end of a meal and I feel comfortably full and stay that way for hours. The results were dramatic and amazing. I personally cannot speak well enough of this diet, for those who are suited to it. I don't use this phrase often, but The Ketogenic Kitchen is a life-changing book. Pick up a copy of The Ketogenic Kitchen from Chelsea Green. This week welcome to the show Patricia Daly. She is a fully qualified Nutritional Therapist (BA Hons, dipNT, mBANT, mNTOI) based in Dublin, Ireland. Following her cancer diagnosis, she left her corporate career and started studying nutrition, specialising in the area of Integrative Cancer Care. As a Swiss native, she regularly attends training courses in Switzerland/ Germany, including at the renowned Tumor Biology Center in Freiburg, Germany. Questions we ask in this episode: What is the ketogenic diet and why is it effective (with cancer)? Have you looked at exogenous ketones? What about our emotions and stress levels? Do you undertake any specific type of exercise? What does Patricia Daly eat Shop: http://shop.180nutrition.com.au/ This week, we are doing it with the fantastic Patricia Daly. This was a topic I was very excited to get into. I don’t want to give away too much for the show, because Patricia’s going to go into in great detail. In a nutshell, she was diagnosed with eye cancer at the age of 28, I think; correct me if I’m wrong, I apologize in advance. [00:01:00] Essentially, she felt she was exercising, doing all the right things anyway, and it came as quite a surprise to her. Then after that, she started to take power into her own hands, essentially. Then started adjusting her diet; was then re-diagnosed again after two more years, and the cancer had come back more aggressively. She’s clearly a very strong-willed person, and she continued to research and investigate cancer. She’s doing remarkably well and she now shares her journey and story with you. [00:01:30] You can check out her website, patriciadaly.com, where she’s got a heap of information there. She’s also got a brand new book out called The Ketogenic Kitchen, which is fantastic and I highly recommend you checking it out … from a dietary perspective anyway. [00:02:00] We get into this fascinating journey, what’s she’s learned, how she’s changed her life. In fact, and how we can apply it to ourselves as well. I have no doubt you are going to enjoy today’s show. As always, if you’re listening to this through us iTunes, just hit that subscribe button, five star us. If you’re really enjoying the shows, please leave us a review; let us know how these podcasts are affecting your lives, because we love hearing from you. Especially because we press send, the podcast goes out into cyberspace, and we know everyone’s listening, so some feedback would be greatly appreciated. Of course, if you do know anyone with cancer and is looking for more information and other people’s journeys on with it, then this podcast would be great place to share it with them. Anyway, let’s go over to today’s show. Enjoy. [00:02:30] Hi, this is Guy Lawrence. I’m joined with Stuart Cook as always. Hey, Stu. Stu Hello, Guy. Guy Our fantastic guest today is Patricia Daly. Patricia, welcome to the show. Patricia: Yeah, hi. It’s brilliant to be here. I’m delighted to be asked to come on your show, it’s great. Guy [00:03:00] Look, I’m very excited; I’m very excited about your show and your own personal journey and story. I just believe it’s going to inspire and help so many others, because it’s such a fascinating topic as well. Before we get into that, Patricia, I’m going to ask you a quick question. That was basically, “If somebody stopped you on the street and asked you what you did for a living, what would you say?” Patricia: I would say I’m a nutritional therapist. That’s usually sort of the most neutral form. If I absolutely don’t want to talk about … That’s the thing, as soon as you say you’re a nutritional therapist, people just jump on it and they actually want advice on what to have for breakfast.
