Mohit Tripathi, born on April 18, 1978, in R.K. Puram, New Delhi, is renowned for his significant contributions to Indian contemporary theater. Not only is he an actor, but he also excels as a director and writer. Additionally, he is a theater trainer, fondly admired and deeply respected by his students. After being thoroughly impressed by his play "Main Bhi Bachchan," I felt a strong desire to meet him and his team at the Renaissance Theatre to gain a deeper understanding of his work and approach. Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to another episode of The Open Mic Podcast! With your host Tom Hirst, brought to you by Richland Source and Newsroom After Hours! This week we have Ryan Citrino - Nick Bottom and Leah Gesouras - Beatrice Bottom (Nick's Wife), two members from the cast of Something Rotten! The next great production being performed at Mansfield's own legendary Renaissance Theatre!  Something Rotten! Opened on broadway in 2015 and was nominated for 10 Tony-awards. It's been described as if "Mel Brooks wrote Hamilton" The Story: Something Rotten takes place in 1595 London, England. The Bottom brothers, Nick and Nigel are trying to find success by writing plays, but are outshined by the rock-star playwright of the Renaissance, William Shakespeare. Desperate to find success Nick gets help from a soothsayer for the next big hit when he prophesies a musical. The Bottom brothers get to work creating the first musical, complete with song and dance. I had a blast chatting with Ryan and Leah! They have both had quite the fascinating life in theatre, with lots of incredibly colorful experiences along the way! This episode was a real treat for me because I know nothing about the musical play/theatre world. I got the chance to ask a lot of questions that I've always wanted to inquire about that world. There are a lot of interesting similarities between the theatre world and the traditional band world that I exist in normally. As well as a lot of things that I had never considered that they have to think about on a regular basis while preparing for the roles that they will be preforming as.  It sounds to me that this musical will be right up my alley, heavy comedic emphasis with some tugging on your heart strings, down on their luck, under-dog character moments. I'm excited to go see it and I hope you all will too!  Musicals are cool, I don't care what you think. If you disagree you're wrong.  Something Rotten! I had the pleasure of interviewing Octavio Más-Arocas, the music director for the Mansfield symphony Orchestra! He was such a delightful person to interview. His immense passion for what he does draws you in and grips you. It compells you to want to understand what it is about his job that fuels the passion he displays. There is so, so much that goes on behind the scenes for every single performance the mansfield symphony puts on that we really just begin to scratch beneath the surface with the time we had.  We talk everything from his process of picking the music they play to the work that goes into tieing the theme and music into the performances that you see when they play. It’s spring! Time for fun! Time to be outside! Time to play sports! Time to enjoy flowers and birds! Time for picnics! Time for Shakespeare!Wait…what? Shakespeare fun? Isn’t Shakespeare serious and impossible to understand and boring and old, and irrelevant, and pretty much the opposite of fun?In a word: no. Shakespeare can be boring and old and serious and irrelevant, but it doesn’t need to be. In fact, Shakespeare started out as a guy who moved to London to pursue the career he wanted, which was to dress up and act and write stories that appealed to all kinds of people and make money by creating popular entertainment. His plays were full of naughty jokes and silly characters and recognizable family drama and challenges to authority. The people watching the plays were eating and drinking while they watched, and even threw a bit of food at the actors if things got a bit dull.Shakespeare shook things up in the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I. Joined by fellow playwrights and actors, Shakespeare made English theatre a vibrant part of London life. Despite the plague closing the theatres for months at a time and cynical censors who didn’t want anyone questioning authority, Shakespeare created worlds out of words that are fun and tragic and controversial and full of family and friends and enemies and armies. We are ready to shake up spring with Shakespeare.
