Five years on from the first Covid lockdown, what can be done to support the 200,000 ‘Lockdown babies' born when lockdown was at its most restrictive, between 23 March and 4 July 2020? These babies have extraordinary young-life stories: Mums giving birth alone; doctors in hazmat suits; babies meeting fathers and grandparents for the first time online; no health visitors; no family cuddles; no baby groups. Now aged four and approaching five, lockdown seems to have had lasting effects on some. What can be done to help? Nuala McGovern is joined by Nicola Botting, Professor of Developmental Disorders at City St George's, University of London and co-lead on The Born in Covid Year – Core Lockdown Effects (BICYCLE) study, Jane Harris, CEO of Speech and Language UK, and mum of three, Frankie Eshun.Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding died of breast cancer in 2021 at the age of 39. Inspired by her desire to find new ways of spotting the disease earlier, the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment in Young Women (BCAN-RAY) study was set up in May 2023. Led by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust with funding from the Christie Charity, Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal, and other charities, it is one of the world's first research programmes to identify breast cancer risks in younger women without a family history of the disease. Nuala speaks to Anna Housley, who has taken part in the study.Nuala talks to Emma van Straaten, whose 10,000 word entry, This Immaculate Body, won the inaugural Women's Prize Discoveries in 2021, an award set up to inspire unagented and unpublished women in the UK and Ireland to write their first novels. That submission is now a published book - It is about Alice, who has been cleaning Tom's flat for over a year, and becomes infatuated with him, a man she has never met.A new TV series, Chess Masters, started last week on BBC2. It's badged as Bake Off with kings and queens. Camilla Lewis, the woman behind the new show, was inspired to create it by her teenage daughter, Jasmine, who became obsessed with the game during lockdown. They join Nuala to talk about how to turn a board game into must-watch television.Presenter: Nuala McGovern Producer: Rebecca Myatt

I so loved meeting up with Kimberley Walsh this month. I was signed to the same label as girls aloud when I started my solo career, so we've known each other for over 20 years. It was great to compare notes on those days, our mutual love of singing around the house, of being mums of multiple boys, and so much more.We met at Kimberley's house, just two days after the Primrose Ball, held to celebrate the life of her band mate and great friend Sarah Harding who died of breast cancer just over a year ago. While Kimberley felt emotionally drained, she was proud that the event had raised enough money to cover Sarah's doctor's research project, which had been Sarah's wish. Kimberley was honest in saying that she is still in a very painful stage of grief. She shared how Sarah's diagnosis came at the same time that Kimberley found out she was pregnant with her third son, and how she couldn't bear to share that news with Sarah for quite a while, knowing that Sarah wouldn't have a chance to become a mum herself. We also talked about Kimberley's childhood in Bradford, how her mum was so hard-working when money was extremely tight and how Kimberley credits her mum with passing on a strong work ethic to her. Her love of performing started back then too and remains a driving force in her life - she has starred in many West End musicals, was on Strictly Come Dancing the year before I was, and is currently enjoying regularly presenting Morning Live from Manchester. I loved hearing about her three boys and her stepdaughter Chloe who she adores and who's just moved in with them while on an internship in London, much to the delight of the boys, dad Justin and Kimberley,Spinning Plates is presented by Sophie Ellis Bextor, it is produced by Claire Jones and post-production is by Richard Jones Hosted on Acast. In a week where: WhatsApp is fined $266 Million Over Data Transparency Breaches. Hurricane Ida floods New York & New Jersey. Texas effectively make abortion illegal with the green light from US Supreme Court.  Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding dies aged 39 from breast cancer. TikTok reportedly overtakes YouTube in US average watch time. In the 1st of two Film/TV segments: (6:15) I'm going to the cinemas for the first time since Parasite, peeping that new "Shang-Chi". But I'm probably in the majority in knowing nothing about "Shang-Chi". So, let's learn about Shang-Chi".In the 1st of two Life segments: (19:43) It's going to be 20 years of 9/11 this week. And one thing that fascinates me about the monumental event is what the world was like before it.In the 2nd Life segment: (37:47) I have this screenplay, a post-apocalyptic type thing, set 10 years after a technological apocalypse. So it gasses me that it could actually happen via solar flares.Lastly, in the 2nd Film/TV segment: (46:08) The death of Michael K. Williams is a brutal blow. An actor that stole every scene he was in, you can tell he put his all into every role. But a conversation about "giving your all" into something like acting gave me pause.Thank you for listening! This week's podcast has highs and lows, a bit like life really. We start with good news around momentum gathering around the introduction of gender quotes. The National Women's Council is backing a draft bill going before government to introduce the quotas. Then, in our telly talk, we discuss Turning Point, a new 9/11 documentary and then go off on a massive tangent about 9/11 in general. 20 years on and it's still a source producing new stories. Our Fox of the Week is Dolores O'Riordan in the week that would have been her 50th birthday had she lived. Find out more about this singular Limerick woman and how her old bandmates are commemorating the occasion. Our follow this week is for the unexpected, slightly disturbing @siblingsordating honestly mind-boggling stuff. We round off this week's show with a chat about the lovely Sarah Harding, R.I.P. and delight in some thoroughly delightful news that is the return of our beloved ABBA.Please help us spread the word if you enjoy the podcast. Men and women in Clare and the rest of the country are being advised to do the same.

Currently a final year medical student at King's College London. Megan took up triathlon/duathlon in her first year. She did her first degree in Biomedical Sciences at Newcastle University- She has  been at uni for 8 years, At Newcastle she  used to row and won a few BUCS medals. A shoulder injury and a gruelling training schedule where she would fall asleep in most lectures led her to think about a change of sport. She played netball for a year (coached by Sarah Harding who was episode 6 on this podcast!) but wanted to move away from team sports to have more flexibility at medical school. Her mum Maria Powell is an extremely successful AG multisport athlete (15 podiums and 7 wins at Euro/World Championships in all disciplines except duathlon). Her family holidays used to revolve around watching her mum race around the world and family training camps at Club La Santa, Lanzarote! Megan was always inspired to take up the sport but didn't want to tread on her Mums toes! She grew up doing quite a bit of running in her spare time as a stress release/mental wellbeing but only did team sports competitively. Megans decision to take up triathlon when she moved to London was very much supported by her Mum  (she bought Megan her  first road bike for her 21st!) and she has coached her for the last 4 years!Swimming has always been Megans least favourite and weakest discipline. She has had a two year battle with shoulder impingements and even managed to partially dislocate her shoulder in her sleep! This frustration led Megan to focus more on duathlons. She did her first sprint duathlon qualifier event at Oulton Park in 2017 where she won her age group (6th overall) and her first standard distance duathlon qualifier in 2018 at Anglian water where she was first female overall. She enjoy both sprint and standard and have got into a cycle of doing sprint at Europeans and standard at worlds. Sprint distance draft-legal racing is really fun but standard distance non-drafting really tests you physically!Megans boyfriend Hugh has been a big part of her journey into AG racing. Prior to her taking up the sport he had done 2 ironman triathlons and was doing a lot of cycle racing! She convinced him to come to the qualifiers with her and give it a go and he has also done tremendously well! They have shared the podium a few times at world and european events! Looking forwardsMegan will graduate and start work as a doctor next year in August 2021. She is hoping to get one big season in before life becomes a bit more hectic! She wants to become a GP eventually and is very passionate about getting the public active! There are several doctors who have been professional triathletes at points in their life and she is  very inspired by them!Mental health awareness is very important to her. She has experienced both depression and disordered eating- probably RED-S in hindsight. She is very passionate about changing the idea in endurance sports that lighter= faster. Many athletes get sucked into not fuelling themselves well enough (sometimes voluntarily sometimes not) and it generally always leads to worse performances! She is a big fan of the Train Brave initiative and she volunteers with BEAT at university (the UK's largest eating disorder charity).to find out about the charities that Megan supports you can findthem  at....Train_Brave  on Instagram and their web page is trainbrave.orgBEAT is on Instagram beateatingdisorders_voice and their webpage is beateatingdisorders.organd if you would like to send us an e mail you can send it to agegroupmultisportpodcast@gmail.comfind us on Instagram amp_1967Twitter  agegroupmultisportpodcastFacebook AMPGBWebsite is agegroupmultisportpodcast.buzzsprout.com

On Episode 6 we chat to new Mum and AG Multisporter Sarah Harding. Considering herself as a complete novice listen to Sarahs fascinating journey from a non stop sporting childhood into adulthood, until a knee injury sidelined her sporting ambition. A long road to recovery and finally deciding to take on a triathlon, found out she was eight pregnant. Once again sporting ambition brought to a halt this time for a nicer reason. After giving birth to her daughter and struggling at the start, battling post natal depression, she found that running and training was essential to not only her mental wellbeing but giving her, her identity back. In just seven months and trying as many different multisport events as she could, Sarah found out about multisport age group racing, and qualified for both Triathlon and Duathlon, winning a silver medal in the latter, at the 2020 ETU Duathlon Championships in Punta Umbria.
