Alan takes a trip down memory lane, revisiting "The Scallion," a satirical dental news project he and colleagues created (inspired by The Onion) back in the Dental Hacks era (circa 2017-2018). In this episode, Alan reads several archived "Scallion" articles, finding they still hold up with humor poking fun at: Aggressive sales reps at dental meetings. Dentists avoiding shop talk at parties. Exaggerated links between periodontal disease and other health issues. Hilariously inaccurate dental stock photography. The shocking revelations that can come with using dental loupes for the first time. Over-the-top (and potentially condescending) marketing advice. The classic "I hate dentists" patient comment. Stubborn dentists arguing online. We don't laugh at the profession enough. This should help! This episode we will be looking at another Chinese herbal formula, in fact we are going to look at probably the first formula most of us learn in school: Cōng Chǐ Tāng or Scallion and Prepared Soybean Decoction. This is a mild formula for releasing the exterior and may be easily created in most kitchens without any major herbal inventory. As always, we will do our deep dive into this herb formula and look at its traditional uses, and its preparation, interactions, and cautions. And, as usual, we will be adding something a little different…we will be looking at pharmacognosy and several glycosides Each episode of the podcast will go into great depth about a single herb or formula. Besides covering the basics of herbology including category, and functions, we will explore the history, quality, science, pharmacology, evidence, and any potential interactions of each herb or formula. Please join us as we look at Cōng Chǐ Tāng or Scallion and Prepared Soybean Decoction. It is going to be another interesting trek into the exciting universe of herbs…please join us!

In this episode, I discuss the medicinal properties of the many varieties of Thistles. Several different plants are called thistle and most, if not all, have medicinal properties and are potently medicinal. Some could even save your life and several are associated with legends of divine intervention for the good of mankind. I also give you my recipe for leftover turkey (or most anything else) casserole, a Chinese style quick noodle dish that is super cheap and a nice break from heavy holiday foods and my (soon to be famous) spiced peanuts. I grew up on a peanut farm, and store bought peanuts just don't satisfy - with a little oil, spice and less than 5 minutes of time you can make store bought peanuts REALLY good! The podcast episode is called "Curry and Culture" and is part of a series. The host, Fred, talks about the origins of scallions, also known as green onions or spring onions, which come from Asia and grew all over Jamaica, becoming one of the main ingredients in Jamaican curry. Fred describes how to use scallions when making curry and emphasizes how important they are to create a harmonious and well-balanced performance, just like in a choir. He then reflects on the concept of culture and how it starts somewhere simple and step-by-step, with people improving upon it along the way, using Jamaican culture and cuisine as an example. Fred challenges the audience to become creators of culture and to move away from spectatorship, creating a call to action for listeners to start from where they are, consume culture daily, and make little changes along the way. He also emphasizes that Jamaica is more diverse than the stereotypes portrayed in media and invites the audience to become a part of Jamaican culture. #jamaican #jamaica #insta360x3 [00:00:00] Intro [00:00:15] Scallion Origins [00:00:45] Marker [00:01:01] Choir [00:01:14] Push Dung --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/newhuman/message

What's the difference between a “hack” and a “recipe”? We honestly have no idea, but whether you call them “hacks” or “recipes,” we have some more to share. We heard from customers and Crew Members from around the country about fun, easy, delicious ways to enjoy so many Trader Joe's products? A sweet use for pizza dough? Yes! Scallion pancakes as taco shells? Yes, please! A cake made with sparkling fruit juice? Excuse us while we head to the kitchen. We have some hacking to do… #traderjoesproducthacks Transcript (PDF) Cinnamon Monkey Bread Pizza Dough Hack As this is more of a hack than a recipe, think of these as guidelines rather than hard and fast rules. A little more of this, a little less of that… it's gonna be good! Ingredients: 1 ball of fresh pizza dough 1 cup of brown sugar 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon 1 stick of salted butter, melted (Optional but recommended: 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract) Instructions: Remove dough from refrigerator 20-30 minutes before use and place on a lightly floured surface Preheat your oven to 350ºF Mix the cinnamon and sugar together in one bowl Pour the melted stick of butter into a separate bowl, mix in vanilla extract (optional) Divide dough into 1-inch round pieces – roll dough balls first in melted butter then in the cinnamon sugar mixture Layer coated dough balls in a lightly greased 9x5 loaf pan (can be doubled to fill a larger Bundt pan) Bake in the oven at 350ºF for 30-40min or until lightly browned and cooked through Let cool at least 15 minutes but best served when still warm To serve, flip the loaf pan on top of your serving platter of choice

How about some lime scallion butter for fresh corn or whatever meat you're serving? It's easy and sooo good. In a food processor mix a half stick of softened butter with grated lime zest and a diced scallion. Scoop it into a bowl and use a little on your grilled steak, burgers, chicken or pork. One small taste adds zip without lots of fat. And then there's sweet summer corn on the cob. Slather on that lime-scallion butter with a touch of salt and you're good to go. If you love heat, sprinkle on the cayenne to make it devilish.
