Shawn was born in Sheridan Wyoming. His love of bikes started early, he even won trophies racing BMX in elementary school. When he was 12 they moved to Holladay where Shawn went to Oly Jr & graduated from Olympus High. Shawn has always been active, playing many sports like football and basketball. Believe it or not, he had to be an X when he played tackle football in junior high. He went to Univ of Wyoming for a semester, and realized the sheltered Sheridan boy was not prepared for all that Laramie had to offer. He then went to the U for a quarter, spent two years in North Carolina, and then graduated from the U. Shawn currently lives in Cottonwood Heights with his wife Emily; who is amazing, glorious, kind, thoughtful, and patient, along with their 3 boys. Em's family ran the Deseret News 10k one summer, then the Provo River half marathon, and Shawn's love for endurance was born, as well as a dive into nutrition. He ran 13 marathons before switching to cycling. He has always had a method to his madness, whether it be getting faster or stronger, what he does has a purpose. At certain times of the year, Shawn could have up to 6 jobs going on at one time. He's currently working on a masters in Sport Analytics from Ole Miss, and looking to make a career transition to data analytics. So make sure you have your brown rice and beatles, and prepare to be enlightened by Shawn's crazy mind. From Kirby, “Shawn has been in the finance industry for 10 plus years, but has a love for statistics. When Shawn isn't crunching numbers for FIS, he is running the statistics reporting for University of Utah sports programs as well as for the NFL Las Vegas Raiders. Fun facts, Shawn is a vegetarian and loves eating cactus. Because Shawn eats mostly plants, producing more gas, which you'll get to enjoy on group rides. There is little to no draft riding behind Shawn, perfect air foil. Shawn's mom, Jane, favorite friend is David Kirby. She loves a man with a mustache. True story.”
Pastor Chad Cowan's Sunday Sermon on 10/29/2023 at First Baptist Church in Sheridan Wyoming
Tonight's special guest is David Brown from Duluth, Minnesota, a former paramedic and police officer, an abuse survivor, and the author of six books found at davidjbrownbooks.com. David explains his life story: "I experienced child abuse with daily beatings and starvation from both my parents in my early years at about 4 years of age. This continued until my dad sobered up when I was 10. The trust was broken and I could not feel safe with him or my mother as they both beat and starved me. I grew up to become reckless and fearless, at least that was my act. My1st career position was that as a rescue paramedic in 1970. In 1978 I moved out to the Western States and became the uniform police officer. My lifetime motto became, "I can only reach just one soul." In 1991, at 43, I came out of an alcohol induced blackout with my duty weapon in my mouth. I put down my weapon and took an oath to change my life forever, and I haven't had a drink since then it's been more than 30 years. In 2009 my mother passed away, I was living in Colorado and she in Minnesota. I came back home for her funeral service. On my return trip back to Colorado I stopped for gas in Sheridan Wyoming. I saw a mountain cliff directly in front of me and something moved me and told me I had to go there, there was something special there that I had to experience. I can't tell you what transpired, all I know is it as I walked away back to my car a voice spoke to me and it said, "Write the book." From that day to this day I have authored 6 books all in the realm of Self Help and better living from depression, alcoholism and suicidal ideations."

Dan E. Hendrickson Shares His Adventure Novel - Brandy: Ballad of a Pirate Princess. This is episode 547 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast. Dan Hendrickson was born in Sheridan Wyoming in 1962 near the rustic Big Horn Mountain range to Carl and Helen Hendrickson. He went to school in the Sheridan School District graduating from Sheridan High School in 1981. He was an avid participant in boxing, martial arts, wrestling, and track. His father owned a small eight lane bowling alley that he ran until Dan was 12 years old. Carl also had a master's degree in English and loved to write poetry and plays. Dan picked up on his father's love for the written word and enrolled in Casper Community College in 1982 majoring in journalism. Although he found that he had an aptitude for investigative reporting, he decided that his interests were in other areas. He went on to do much volunteer Christian ministry work throughout the United States most of his adult life and continues to pursue those endeavors to this day. During that time, he gained another degree in Practical Theology. Throughout his many ministry assignments, he also worked several secular jobs. Some of his work experience includes law enforcement, security, emergency medical technician, and firefighting. He also helped run a Martial Arts School where he was a senior instructor. Most notable of his work experience is his auto detailing endeavors. He and his wife, Cheryl, have owned three different auto detailing businesses throughout the country, the last of which they still run to this day. This is my second visit with Dan…on episode 507 we talked about his novel - The Living Legend: A Last Enemy Prequel. Today we are talking about his adventure - Brandy - Ballad of a Pirate Princess. Today, we are focused on his latest novel - a prequel - The Living Legend: A Last Enemy Prequel A little bit about The Living Legend: A Last Enemy Prequel… Dan E. Hendrickson's new novel The Living Legend, shows a brilliance at creating tension and conflicts in the story. For those who enjoy action and adventure in a military setting, they will adore this book. Deception, politics, corruption, bravery, love, integrity, determination, and lots of action are the key elements on The Living Legend, the latest in The Last Enemy series from Dan E. Hendrickson. This is his follow-up book to penning Brandy: Ballad of a Pirate Princess, which was named last year by Online Book Club as its Historical Fiction Book of the Year. Set in the 1970s, on one side of the world, Tommy, a man seeking vengeance for his father's murder; on the other side, Makena, a woman seeking to stop the slavery of her people. We'll find out how their worlds collide in The Living Legend. “My books tend to have a military/law enforcement flavor because they deal with issues like modern day human trafficking, organized crime, high-sea drug smuggling, historical piracy, and slave trading,” says Hendrickson. “This one takes place when the Navy SEAL program was launched and the mission is to go after a Russian assassin.” This is an awesome read! But wait... The new intro and outro music was written and performed by Brian K. Buffington. Connect with Brian at briankbuffington@gmail.com or go to his website at https://briankbuffington.com/ He is an awesome musician, comedic power, teacher, trainer, technology guru, and overall creator of all that is cool. Hashtag 59's Season 3 Podcast is 50 Episodes long and each episode will provide SIX outdoor adventures in each of the US's 50 states. We are doing these episodes in ABC Order of the states and episode fifty is Wyoming. The goal is to give you ideas and opportunities to experience outdoor adventure anywhere and everywhere in the United States of America. Here's our list for Wyoming: 1. Visit Medicine Bow National Forest: This area extends over 2,222,313 acres in the states of Wyoming and Colorado. One of the hikes that looked awesome is the Medicine Bow Peak via Lakes Trail Loop. This is a 6.7 mile loop trail located near Saratoga, Wyoming that features a lake and is rated as difficult with an elevation gain of 1,712 feet. Don’t feel like doing much of a hike? The Crater Lake Trail is about 3 mile out and back. Absolutely stunning views from the rim and gorgeous quiet lake at the bottom and a gain of 775 feet. 2. Bighorn Mountain National Forest: Located in north-central Wyoming, the Bighorn Mountains are a sister range of the Rocky Mountains. Conveniently located halfway between Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone National Park, the Bighorns are a great vacation destination in themselves. There’s backpacking and day hiking options a plenty. The 189,039 acre Cloud Peak Wilderness preserves many sharp summits and towering sheer rock faces standing above glacier-carved, U-shaped valleys. 3. Visit Hot Springs! Hot Springs State Park, Granite Hot Springs, Hobo Pool, Boiling River Hot Springs to name a few. 4. Hike around Devils Tower or rock climb to the top! 5. Get your cowboy on in Sheridan Wyoming. An Erin S (past podcast guest) favorite. National Forests, Cowboy Country, Trails End National Historic Site, and waterfalls are a few of your options. 6. Should we talk about Yellowstone I guess? Yes of course, number six is Yellowstone National Park!!!! Thanks for listening to Season 3 of our podcast featuring all 50 US States and some of each state's unique and hopefully lesser known to you Outdoor Adventures. This episode featured the state of Wisconsin. Subscribe to our podcast if you enjoy what you hear and if you feel so inclined to leave a review we would be grateful.
