Send me a Text Message!MARCH 2025Hey everyone—checking in from Albania! This month's been a bit of a whirlwind. I finally moved into my new place in Porto (which felt amazing), but then had to leave Portugal until my visa is approved. Cue the Great Travel Shuffle: Porto > Madrid > Tirana > Frankfurt > US > Frankfurt > Porto. So. Many. Flights. But you know what? Tirana—and especially the Blloku neighborhood—continues to surprise me. It's my third time here and there's always more history to discover. From strong espressos and people-watching to powerful pieces of history tucked around every corner, it's been a unique little chapter. In this episode, I'm talking about the highs, the hectic moments, the history, and what it's like living out of a suitcase while craving a little stillness. If you've ever felt that mix of wanderlust and wanting to just hang your clothes up for once—you'll get it.Website I Instagram I Twitter I LinkedIn I YouTubeEmail: actorbobtapper@gmail.comIn this episode:Moving into my Porto Apartment (for a quick minute)Pack, Unpack, Repack and back to TiranaEnver Hoxha's Home: 40 years of communist rulePostbllok MemorialLooking forward to my return to PortoAirBnbBook your stay!Former Residence of Enver HoxhaRight in the heart of Tirana is a quiet villa that once belonged to Enver Hoxha, Albania's longtime communist leader. For decades, the entire area around it—now known as Blloku—was completely off-limits, guarded by police and secret agents. It was basically a wall-less fortress for the regime's elite, hidden in plain sight. Today, it's one of the city's liveliest neighborhoods, but that history still lingers.Postbllok MemorialOne of the most powerful spots in Tirana is the Postbllok Memorial—a small but impactful installation created by former political prisoner Fatos Lubonja and artist Ardian Isufi. It features concrete beams from Spaç Prison, part of a military bunker, and a piece of the Berlin Wall gifted by the city of Berlin. Each element tells a story of Albania's past under dictatorship and its long road to freedom. Support the show

We take you all the way to Porto Portugal! I had a blast hanging with Ivo and Hugo from MUMA, and they didn't get mad when I butchered their language! We talked about the music scene in Porto, doing original music, being a duo and bad auditions and band mates. We play the Yes or No Game and trash some famous bands we just don't like! We play some awesome tracks and have a ton of laughs. Shout out to Adam Hyman. Intro music by Adam Hyman and Bovine Nightmares kicks off the show!
Nearly 80% of Europeans aren't involved in the energy transition, often because they don't know how. Digital tools can make it easier for people to actively participate and support the shift to a greener future, but consumers still lack user-friendly solutions. Leading energy industry and research collaborators from across Europe are launching the EU-DREAM project this month to accelerate innovation in digital tools and enhance the adoption of digital services in the energy market. The EU-DREAM project stands for Effective Uptake of Digital Services to Repower European Consumers and Communities as Active Participants in Energy Transition and Markets and focuses on improving consumer interaction with the energy market. It aims to simplify complex energy management processes and enhance customer awareness, trust, and confidence through the introduction of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) -based assistant and a Natural Language Processing (NLP) intermediary. The project is led by the University of Porto (Portugal) and 16 other collaborators from nine countries, Ireland included. The project is set to develop next-generation energy services, solutions, and products, fully tested and demonstrated in six living labs (LLs) across six EU countries: Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Ireland, Greece, and Denmark. Each LL will be focusing on different aspects of energy innovation: LL1 (Coimbra, Portugal): AI-powered renewable energy communities LL2 (Genk, Belgium): Addressing energy poverty and impacts on vulnerable consumers LL3 (Northern Italy, Italy): Energy flexibility and interoperability at the residential scale LL4 (Dublin, Ireland): Empowering consumers for energy management LL5 (Thessaloniki and other cities, Greece): Smart energy services for multi-energy vectors LL6 (Aalborg, Denmark): DT-enabled residential IoT microgrid "These innovative tools will translate intricate energy market details into everyday language, making energy management accessible and understandable. The AI-based assistant will act as an energy attorney for users, optimizing energy settings according to individual preferences, while the NLP intermediary will facilitate seamless communication in layman's terms," explained João Catalão, full professor, Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto (Portugal). The Irish LL4, led by SSE Airtricity in collaboration with EPRI Europe and DCSix Technologies, aims to address consumers' ability to optimise energy usage in Ireland through real-time data analysis and AI algorithms, ensuring efficient usage and minimizing grid reliance. "Innovations that help with an equitable, affordable clean energy transition are key to meeting net-zero targets," said Mário Couto, technical leader at EPRI Europe. "We are pleased to work with SSE Airtricity and DCSix Technologies on the lab, which could provide consumers with the tools needed as part of an effective energy transformation." Additionally, a Digital Twin (DT) of households will be created using real-time data from sensors, allowing for precise monitoring and optimization of energy use. These household DTs will integrate into broader community DTs, providing valuable insights for new market designs and consumer-oriented business models. The project, from July 2024 to December 2027, is funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe program, under agreement no. 101160614. For more information about EU-DREAM and its initiatives, please visit https://www.linkedin.com/company/eu-dream/.

Come to Portugal with us! On this episode we discuss the first part of our week long Portugal trip in Porto! We share everything we liked and didn't like and what we learned along the way.
An intriguing article in a supplement to the Italian newspaper, the Corriere della Sera, highlighted Porto, Portugal as the top European travel destination of 2024. Coincidentally I was heading there soon after I saw the article. Porto unveiled a delightful array of delicious wines, and seafood delicacies, from succulent grilled cod to savory sardines. However, what truly stole the show was the Portuguese bread, and especially the Broa de Avintes bread. It's nothing short of extraordinary! Dense, moist, and bursting with flavor, this bread became our instant favorite, prompting us to embark on a quest to bring some back to Rome. Listen and then head to the show notes on flavorofitaly.com for the recipe!

In this episode, I have the great pleasure to speak with Paulo Moreira who was born and raised in Porto (the city of Port Wine), in Portugal. There, he studied foreign languages and literature. He also studied photography at a professional level, becoming a certified photography teacher. Paulo´s work is about street photography, strictly in black and white, all about geometry and the moment. His images are rooted in the classical philosophy of the most iconic representatives of the genre, mostly the European photographers that brought candid and street photography to the world. About 50% of Paulo's images are still captured on film, a medium that he will never abandon. By choice, Paulo has never accepted to exhibit his work or to publish it. There are, however, a few videos on YouTube that show part of his work. He currently works together with a prestigious name in the camera industry to help photographers to find the way in their photographic journey. Upland was founded in 2018 by serial entrepreneurs Dirk Lueth, Idan Zuckerman and Mani Honigstein they raised $18M on $300M Series A in October 2021. The team includes 130 members since their launched in early 2020. They reached profitable in 2021 as one of the largest blockchain-based metaverse mapped to the real world with over 280k "landowners" with various game engagement points; sold over 4M NFTs. It started as a "property trading game" (think Monopoly) and evolved today into a platform where creators, developers, and brands launch their own experiences and applications (think "iOS" for the metaverse).Upland is also the entrepreneurial metaverse where e.g. players can create and run their own ventures like selling "outside decor" and other creations. It is currently live in 20 US cities, Rio de Janeiro and Porto (Portugal) and available on Mobile and Web. They have partnerships with NFLPA, FC Porto, Hyperloop, and others.Co-founder, Dirk Lueth, is also the author of the Amazon bestseller book "Navigating the Metaverse"; initiator and co-founder of the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 oma3.org. Upland is turning from a game into a platform that is launching its 3rd party developer portal this week. Upland attracted investment from C3 Venture Capital (“C3”) a venture capital company focused on managing early-stage venture funds which invest in exceptional technology companies worldwide. C3‘s mission is, among other things, to accelerate growth, development and especially adoption of blockchain technology.

Hello, and welcome to Beauty and the Biz where we talk about the business and marketing side of plastic surgery and content in academia. I'm your host, Catherine Maley, author of Your Aesthetic Practice – What your patients are saying, as well as consultant to plastic surgeons, to get them more patients and more profits. Now, today's episode is called "Content in Academia — with Sam P. Most, MD." Some surgeons are just not interested in business. That's why a career in academia appeals to them. Instead, they can write, teach, speak and research their favorite procedures because they don't have the added responsibilities of running and managing the ins and outs of a solo private practice. That's how it is for Sam Most, MD, a board-certified facial plastic reconstructive surgeon at Stanford University School of Medicine in CA. Dr. Most is division chief and fellowship director in facial plastic reconstructive surgery, and professor in Stanford departments of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. We talked about the benefits of working for Stanford (no managerial headaches), as well as the drawbacks (Stanford had him take down his own website). Listen in and decide what makes more sense: solo practice or academia. Visit Dr. Most's Website
Hey everyone, Mrs M (Louisa) here. Talking to you guys who love a moment or two at the beach but who struggle in the BLAZING HEAT. Just sharing our delight biggest family realisation, that we actually like being on a beach. Prior to 2022, we really only went on beaches outside of the summer season, and mainly only for dog walking, but by getting a few early evening swims into our weekly schedule, we now LOVE the beach.I have redhair and freckled skin. Carl is half Irish/half Asian (so he can tan) and our kids can tan, but really slowly. We have tended in the past to avoid the bright sunlight and to go out at times when we haven't needed to cover up. Our trips to the beach this summer at around 5pm have been perfect for us, as we can avoid toxic chemicals from sunscreens, get some much needed vitamin d, and play in the fresh air, slowly setting sun, splash around and it's all just so easy.I don't know why we haven't really done this before. I think because the culture we both grew up in, was that a 'beach day' was a whole day out, and it was hot. Now we're living near this very safe and gentle resort, any day can be a beach day. In fact, we've got over a handful of safe and quiet beaches within a short drive from us to choose from, here in this part of the Silver Coast. Please do share your family tips and experiences and we can also give them a go!!!Beijinhos* from Portugal!!!! Tchau, Tchau!! x(* kisses)Follow and support the GMP! community here - www.goodmorningportugal.com
Porto, Portuguese Oporto, city and port, northern Portugal. The city lies along the Douro River, 2 miles (3 km) from the river's mouth on the Atlantic Ocean and 175 miles (280 km) north of Lisbon. World-famous for its port wine, Porto is Portugal's second-largest city and is the commercial and industrial center of the zone north of the Mondego River. The historic center of Porto was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996.Joe and Sal met in Chicago in 2005, Joe is originally from Illinois, and Sal was born and raised in Mexico City. Prior to their meeting, Joe lived in Chicago for over 15 years and Sal lived there for over 4 years. In 2014 they left Chicago and since then, they have lived in Phoenix, AZ; Albuquerque, NM; and Houston, TX. Tired of the corporate BS and bureaucracy they decided to take a leap of faith and aim for early retirement in Europe. This became a reality in November of 2020 when they packed a few suitcases and embarked in search of a new life in Portugal with their 2 adorable Labrador retrievers Gaby and Uriel. In 2021 they cemented their immigrant commitment by acquiring a small condo in Porto, and since then they have been welcomed in their adoptive city free of stress or judgment, enjoying life, local wines, cheeses, food, as well as wonderful hospitality, and hundreds of years of culture and history that this beautiful country has to offer.

Hello, to you listening in Porto, Portugal!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga. My teacher Thich Nhat Hanh taught us to say, “Arrived” as we practiced walking meditation to remind us that with each step we have arrived in the present moment where we can be most free. When we carry our mindfulness over to each task in our day: cutting vegetables, washing dishes, brushing our teeth, focusing on our project, and so on we are becoming our own freedom hero.It takes determination, concentration and sincerity to be become our own freedom hero because no one can do this for you. The present moment of energy belongs to you bringing you freedom from worry, suffering, anxiety, impatience. Practicing present moment awareness is a gradual act of building trust with yourself so that you can continue the practice in moments of doubt or uncertainty. When we invite ourselves into present moment energy we become more compassionate toward ourselves, our shortcomings, our human foibles. We find peace and joy in who we are because we realize we don't have to be perfect, nor does anyone else. We can let that stuff go to become free, fully alive, fully present. What a relief! Guaranteed. You're invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a nice shout out on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! In this episode, I (Yvette) share my observations about fashion and what people dress like in Porto, Portugal compared to what people dress like in Southern California, where we're from. I also share what it's been like shopping for clothing as someone who is in between straight and plus sizes in the US. Has it been hard for me to find clothes in my sizes? What is the quality of clothing like here? What's it like shopping for shoes? What's it like shopping for men's and kids clothes? Do we fit in based on how we dress or do we stand out? Are there any articles of clothing that we wished we had packed and brought with us before our move? Listen to learn more.
