Elizabeth Goddard and I have been writing friends for a long time, and her romantic suspense novels are some of my favorites. Storm Warning is one that races from the first page with the perfect blend of romance and intense suspense. What I didn't realize until we talked is that there are actual lodges like the one in this novel where people retreat to watch storms blow in. A perfect setting for a suspense novel! When we talked about what a hero has to have, Elizabeth was quick to say he has to be strong, which is why her heroes tend to have a military or law enforcement background. I personally love the way Hawk is determined to look after Remi, even when she's not sure she can trust anyone. And Remi can take care of herself. It's a great combination of a hero and heroine in this novel.Connect with Elizabeth GoddardFacebook | Pinterest | Instagram | Goodreads | BookBub | XWant to watch this interview? This noir thriller was an allegory for the politically charged era of the Red Scare in Hollywood. Brandon and Holley discuss Richard Brooks' and Daniel Fuchs' screenplay that was ahead of its time in its indictment of the KKK. The film also features an unlikely cast that includes Ginger Rogers, Doris Day and Ronald Reagan.

Kerry Lutz and David Stryzewski engaged in a comprehensive discussion about the looming economic crisis, likening it to an approaching hurricane that society is unprepared for, particularly in light of high credit card debt and dwindling savings among the American public. Stryzewski criticized the Federal Reserve's recent interest rate cut, expressing concerns about inflation and real estate affordability, while Lutz echoed these sentiments, highlighting the political motivations behind the Fed's actions. They delved into the risks within the financial market, especially regarding the bond market and national debt, advocating for hedging strategies and investments in hard assets like gold, silver, and Bitcoin. Stryzewski made a strong case for silver investment, citing its growing demand in technology and military applications, while Lutz expressed skepticism about the BRICS system and emphasized the importance of monitoring silver demand, ultimately providing valuable insights for investors in precious metals. Today's Headlines: Hurricane Milton struck near Tampa, Florida as a Category 3 storm, triggering 19 tornadoes, injuring several, and leaving 350,000 homes without power. President Biden addressed misinformation claiming the storm was "manufactured" and set the record straight. Meanwhile, NOAA issued a warning for a severe solar storm that could disrupt power grids and radio signals. President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke yesterday to discuss Israel's possible retaliation against Iran's nuclear sites, with the U.S. working to prevent escalation despite Israel's defense minister hinting at a "deadly" response. Back in the US, a report by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse revealed that Trump's White House restricted the FBI's investigation into Brett Kavanaugh's 2018 sexual misconduct allegations, contradicting claims of an independent probe. Additionally, despite denying sending COVID tests to Putin, the Kremlin confirmed the delivery, while denying any recent phone calls between Trump and Putin. Trump is also facing backlash for having "God Bless The USA" bibles made in China. In other news, 13 states sued TikTok for allegedly harming children through addictive features. Brazil lifted its ban on Twitter after the platform blocked disinformation accounts and paid $5.1 million in fines. As Florida braces itself for the arrival of what is predicted to be one of the worst hurricanes of the century, President Biden has urged residents of the State to evacuate. As of yesterday morning, nearly six million Floridians were advised to leave their homes before Hurricane Milton landed. This only weeks after Hurricane Helene flooded parts of Tampa Bay. What does it mean, are these weather fronts the new normal? Immigration has fuelled a record rise in the population, even as deaths outstripped births in Britain for the first time in 50 years. A surge in net migration means that there are now over 68 million people living in the UK. The figures put increasing pressure on the government as the numbers are expected to impact on housing, the health and care sector and schools. But what can be done, not least when a huge percentage of 37,000 irregular arrivals came in on small boats? Plus, Sarah's going sober for October, though, to her surprise, it's something that might yet last even after October ends. Better sleep, weight loss, less anxiety, but will she put down the drink for good pat Halloween? We all know that extreme weather events like hurricanes are getting worse due to climate change, but what scientists would really like to know is: By how much worse exactly? This year a team of researchers argued that hurricanes have become so much more extreme due to climate change that we need to add a new category 6 to the Saffir-Simpson scale, which measures the wind speed of hurricanes. One of those scientists was Michael Wehner from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Using the latest and fastest computers to model how a warming world is reshaping extreme weather events, Wehner is leading a new realm of climate modeling called "end-to-end attribution." This would allow us to not only understand how much worse disastrous weather is becoming but even quantify that difference in terms of damage and destruction.Big Brains is sponsored by the Graham School for Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies.
